It caps a solid seven months of unrest surrounding Flowers, who was upset by New York’s signing of Nate Solder in the offseason and failed to shift to right tackle successfully.The Morning After: Tough cuts on the horizon after Raiders preseason finale win against Seahawks It was just preseason and doesn’t mean much to what we will see come the regular season, but that was one of hell of a finish to the preseason. If it turns out the regular season is anything like that team then this is going to be a very fun season for the Raiders. This game was a great example of everything that Gruden wants his team to be though, aggressively attacking deep while making sure you respect the run along with a swarming defense.Credit for the defense clearly goes to Paul Guenther, and the difference between his defensive scheme and former defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. is night and day. This game showed that difference side by side because Norton is the defensive coordinator for Seattle and the Raiders exploited his coverages all night long. It was glorious.I’m not one who hated Norton Jr. either, the defense under him was his but it was also Jack Del Rio’s and the blame should be put on both of them for the monstrosity they put on the field. It is such a relief to have a coach that is as versatile and effective as Guenther though, his scheme has worked for a long time in Cincinnati and hasn’t missed a beat being installed in Oakland so far.Another sign of the coaching working within the locker room was the extreme competitiveness the bubble players showed last night. Creating competitions is how you get the best out of the players, but rarely do you see that many players excel in their final opportunities to make the team. It was evident among the corners, the linebackers, the defensive line and especially with the wide receivers.How do you possibly cut Keon Hatcher after that game? He had 8 receptions for 128 yards and 3 touchdowns, an average of 16 yards per reception. It wasn’t just the final stats though, he just looked the part so much while making those plays. He was fluid with his routes, clean with his hands, and showed the fire you want to see from an NFL wide receiver. Hatcher deserves to make the team after that performance, and if the Raiders don’t agree then he will absolutely be on a different team’s roster. Probably the Patriots, and that’s just gross so hopefully he makes the Raiders roster.However, it’s not like the other receivers make that an incredibly easy decision. Both rookies Marcel Ateman and Saeed Blacknall also showed up big in this game. They both made had 3 catches for 58 yards, and Blacknall added a touchdown where he bounced off a tackler like a pinball which was really impressive. Ateman is the one who would be most likely to take the spot that Hatcher seems to have earned just because of his 6’4 Cheap Kolton Miller Jersey , 216lb frame. That type of size would be really great to have as a goalline option, no doubt. Blacknall isn’t small either though at 6’2. If either of them go without being claimed if they are cut it would not be surprising to see both of them on the practice squad, but there is no certainty either one would make it past the other 31 teams prying eyes.Another player who seems like you have to make a spot for is CB Anthony Hamilton who has played well for the entire preseason. This was another game where he was consistent with his coverage and physical in his tackling, especially at the line of scrimmage. The Raiders have a lot of corners vying for a roster spot, but it seems like it would be smart to make sure that one of the ones who cracks the final 53 roster is Hamilton.A person who definitely won’t be cracking the roster is Raysean Pringle who was burned regularly in this one. Ironically, the 81 yard touchdown that he gave up was one of his better plays of the game with him very nearly deflecting the pass away before the receiver took off to pay dirt. Though he had a bad game, he has shown potential and might be a practice squad target.As for the defensive line, Fadol Brown is a lock to make the team. The guy was simply dominant this preseason frequently bullrushing his blockers into the quarterback’s lap. There was one play in particular against the Seahawks that made me convinced that there is no way he get’s cut, and it wasn’t when he was rushing the passer. They actually dropped the behemoth defensive lineman back into pass defense as a surprise move and he very nearly intercepted a pass that was a good 10 yards down field. I couldn’t stop smiling after that play, it was one of those big moments where a player really stakes their claim on their roster spot. There is no doubt in my mind that Brown made this team.Unfortunately, it is entirely possible that the spot Fadol Brown ends up taking is that of former 2nd round pick Mario Edwards, Jr. because he just never really showed up enough this preseason. It sucks because Edwards has shown a ton of potential but he was outplayed on the defensive line this preseason by all three of the other players in competition with him with Brown, Tank Carradine and Treyvon Hester all making more plays this preseason.It’s not certain that Edwards won’t make the team by any means, he is a very talented player and has shown flashes throughout his time with the Raiders of a possible beast. Sadly for him though, the Raiders defensive line is the deepest it’s been in ages and his past flashes don’t really matter to the new coaching staff who is making their evaluations based off of what they see now, not what happened before they were here.The last person who deserves the highlight from the game against the Seahawks is E.J. Manuel because after being lambasted all week he just put together a work of art. He was great in this game going 18 of 22 for 255 yards and 3 touchdowns. He likely showed enough to win the back up QB spot, though we still have to see who gets cut from other teams before that’s finalized. It would be shocking to see Gruden go with Connor Cook over Manuel though, even if he wants more time with Cook it was clear that Manuel was the better quarterback this preseason. One of the biggest plays in that competition wasn’t even a big completion for Manuel, it was when he corralled a high snap and passed quickly for a few yard gain. It was a play that showed the ball security he has lacked at times, and the benefits of Gruden’s no laces football drill too.It’s great just to have the final dress rehearsal done though, the next time we see the Raiders hit the field will be for Monday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1 of the regular season. There will be a lot happening between here and then though, with final roster cuts being due by 4pm ET tomorrow. It will be a whirlwind of activity once that happens with some extremely tough cuts coming for the Raiders and surely some additions from tough cuts for the other teams too. No matter what happens, there will be players that get cut that should still be proud of what they put on tape this preseason for Oakland. It was awesome to see all the competitions play out this off-season with more than a few deserving roster spots that unfortunately for them they just won’t get with the NFL’s 53 player roster limits. Sure seems like it’s time for the NFL to adjust that number though, because it’d be nice not to have to cut a few of these guys that won’t be making the Raiders roster.

Clark replaces second-team All-Pro right tackle Daryl Williams, who was placed on injured reserve Wednesday with a knee injury. He joins left tackle Matt Kalil, who was put on IR before Week 1.On top of that, the Panthers learned Wednesday that they might be without three-time Pro Bowl right guard Trai Turner as well against the Falcons.Turner entered the stadium Wednesday morning feeling ill and was placed in the NFL's concussion protocol. The team still might limit his snaps Sunday to make sure he doesn’t aggravate anything Youth Matt Ryan Jersey , but this is a sure sign he’s at least going to be active this week and will get some snaps. Though, there’s another defensive end who doesn’t look like he’s going to play. DE Derrick Shelby not practicing Friday gives a sure signal he’s most likely not going to play this week, which means recently-acquired DE Steven Means will most likely take his snaps. We’ll see how Means does, a preseason favorite who some believe has untapped potential. Reserve LB Corey Nelson, who got injured at practice this week Youth Keanu Neal Jersey , also look unlikely to play, which leaves the team a bit thin at linebacker. It’s more than likely the team will just try to ride with what they’ve got. LB Richard Jarvis is around if they need him, though. We all knew about RB Devonta Freeman missing this week, too, so here’s hoping the dual-attack of Tevin Coleman and Ito Smith can continue to shine. Those plans won’t include veterans T Austin Pasztor and G/C Jamil Douglas. Both have been released from the organization as of Friday. Pasztor joined the Falcons roughly a year ago to help shore up the offensive tackle depth before the team traded for Ty Sambrailo, who looks to have cemented the swing tackle spot once more. Pasztor re-signed a one-year deal with the team in the spring. They do a good job of loading the box and just put themselves in some really good positions to make some plays," Patricia said Monday."We have to execute a little bit better and obviously just try to get some more positive plays in the run game going earlier in the game and be able to stay with it and control the game from that aspect of it."Detroit also turned the ball over three times against Seattle, so the Lions have had eight turnovers in their losses to the Seahawks and Jets, but only two in their five other games.But two of Detroit's turnovers Sunday came in the fourth quarter when the team was already facing a double-digit deficit. The game began to slip away long before then."They out-executed us in all three phases last night and we did not execute up to par," Patricia said. "I just have to do a better job coaching and we have to do a better job of playing."

 The Detroit Lions will attempt to bounce back from the Week 1 shellacking they suffered at the hands of the New York Jets by facing off against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The 49ers have been a team at the bottom of league for years now and even lost to the Minnesota Vikings last week. This iteration of the 49ers is much stronger than those of the past Authentic Ziggy Ansah Jersey , though, and it is mainly because of the presence of former Falcons offensive coordinator turned head coach Kyle Shanahan.Shanahan earned his reputation as the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator when he was the mastermind of the league’s best offense in 2016. He is a creative play caller that uses interesting formations, a lot of pre-snap motion, RPOs, play actions and other elements that keep defenses on their toes. Tight ends, running backs and fullbacks play huge roles within his offenses as they create matchup problems and sometimes can slip through the cracks of a defense’s coverage. San Francisco opened their season against one of the league’s best defenses last week, but Shanahan still managed to work a bit of magic. Non-wide receivers combined for seven receptions for 151 yards—for comparison’s sake, the wide receivers combined for eight receptions for 110 yards. Tight end George Kittle was the star of the show Sunday as he accounted for five receptions and 90 yards. Shanahan lined him up everywhere on the field and found creative ways to get him into space. Minnesota did a great job disguising their coverage on this play, showing zone and playing man, but Kittle still got free and punished them for a decent gain. The variety of motion, play action and RPOs that San Francisco uses do a lot to defenses. First, the motion usually gives a look at whether the defense is playing man or zone coverage. Second Womens Michael Roberts Jersey , it overloads the defense. With so much for a defense to account for both pre and post snap, even the best players can make the simplest of mistakes. On the above play, the linebacker responsible for Kittle was Eric Kendricks, one of the smartest defenders in all of football. He was frozen for a few seconds with all the charades the 49ers were putting on and just lost track of his man.The final and most understated effect it has on defenses is the “Shanahan Factor.” Any defense that spent an entire week studying film on the offensive coordinator is aware of his reputation and his amazing use of motion to confuse a defense. This makes dummy motions, like the receiver who shifts one yard to his right at the bottom of the screen pre-snap, live within the mind of the defenders. The motion looks almost useless, and it was useless, but just that quick action is one more thing defenders have to worry about. Shanahan builds upon his play calling throughout the game and often will just run the same play again with a slightly tweaked formation. On this play later in the game, the 49ers have Kittle run the same route, but this time to the other side of the field. A play-action is used instead of an RPO but it again frees up Kittle for an easy pass into open space. The offensive coordination also uses a variety of motion and trickery in the red zone as well. With the field so compressed near the goal line, it’s incredibly hard to create space for a receiver, but the 49ers manage to do so anyways.San Francisco runs a creative slip screen here to get Kittle into space with a lead blocker in front. The pre-snap motion out wide by fullback Kyle Juszczyk not only shows zone coverage but also removes a defender from the area they want to exploit. Kittle’s initial block takes away another defender and the lead block from tackle Joe Staley takes out one more. Just like that three defenders at the second level are taken out of the picture Womens LeGarrette Blount Jersey , opening space in the most congested area of the field. Kittle gets a good gain and sets up the 49ers near the goal line. San Francisco may have won the game had Kittle not dropped a huge pass on a well-schemed play. The 49ers had ran two similar plays to this one earlier in the game, except they had previously handed the ball off to Matt Breida once and ran a jet sweep on another. Minnesota’s defense probably recognized the play by this point, and they seemed over-eager to sniff out both Breida and Pettis by this point. Kittle yet again came all the way across the offensive line then released out into the large seam they two decoys left behind. Kittle dropped this pass, but had he caught it San Francisco would have gained at least 50 yards, if not a deep touchdown. Detroit will not be able to count on Kittle dropping a key pass once again. Shanahan is great at getting running backs and fullbacks involved as well. Juszczyk’s lone catch of the day was a deep reception where he was schemed wide open. The fullback is split out wide here against the Vikings mixed coverage. The receiver runs one corner out of the play. The safety is distracted and doesn’t seem at all aware of the fullback’s threat. This creates a huge gain for the 49ers on a rare pass to a fullback. So what does this mean for the Detroit Lions?The Lions have been awful at covering tight ends and running backs in the passing game for years now. None of their linebackers are great in coverage and it’s hard to see how they plan on making sure Kittle does not have another huge day. Jarrad Davis in particular has a lot of issues over the past year dealing with motion and play-action. He seems over-eager to bite on anything shown to him post-snap and often will just voluntarily run himself out of plays. It will take a lot of great game planning from Matt Patricia and Paul Pasqualoni to deal with the 49ers this week. We may be in for another rough day for the Lions defense.Detroit Lions Week 1 injury update: What we know about Ezekiel Ansah, T.J. Lang, Matthew Stafford Monday night wasn’t just a disaster in terms of performance on the field for the Detroit Lions. They also dealt with injuries to some key players. Matthew Stafford, Ezekiel Ansah, T.J. Lang and Darius Slay all missed time against the New York Jets. While we won’t know the full status of any of these players until the first injury report of the week (expected Wednesday), here’s what we know about each of their statuses as of Monday night.Matthew StaffordStafford suffered two injuries. First, his leg got stepped on by Taylor Decker, leaving him with very limited mobility for a single drive. He’s not expected to miss any time, and he told reporters after the game, “I’ll be okay.”UPDATE: Stafford gave more details on the radio Tuesday, and it seems like he’ll be just fine: Ezekiel AnsahAfter just 19 defensive snaps, Ansah left the game with a shoulder injury. He went into the locker room, and it didn’t appear he ever returned to the field. Though he was first listed as questionable to return with the shoulder injury, he was eventually downgraded to out. Where things stand now: After the game, head coach Matt Patricia could not give an update on Ansah’s condition.“We’ve got to go in there and take a look at it and see what’s going on,” Patricia said. We’ll hopefully know more early this week.T.J. LangIf you skipped out on the game early Authentic Kerryon Johnson Jersey , you probably didn’t even know T.J. Lang suffered an injury. He missed just one offensive snap for the game (the final kneel down), but the team officially announced that he was questionable to return with a back injury. Where things stand now: We don’t know, but this is obviously a very concerning injury. Not only did Lang miss the entire preseason, but he also missed time last season with a back injury. There’s no word on whether this is the same kind of back injury, but for a player that has struggled with staying healthy since landing in Detroit, this isn’t a great start to the season.Darius SlaySlay took a friendly-fire hit to the head when Ansah landed on him in the first quarter of the game. Though it looked bad at the time, the team evaluated him for a concussion, and he was cleared. He was in for the very next defensive drive. Where things stand now: Head injuries are always tricky, and we’ve seen symptoms show up hours or even days after a player suffers a concussion, so Slay isn’t necessarily clear from the injury.
