SEATTLE (AP) It’s not often Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas spew compliments of an opponent Wholesale Kareem Martin Jersey , especially a rookie.

Watching the Seattle Seahawks defense get torn apart by rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans on Sunday had Sherman, Thomas and their teammates issuing praise rarely heard from one of the top defenses in the league.

”I’m not surprised at all. I think I ran my mouth too much this summer when we chilled,” Thomas said of Watson. ”We got the same agent, spent a lot of time together. I expect that out of him. He did that against Alabama in a big game. He tried to do it today.”

Defense was optional as Watson and Seattle’s Russell Wilson put together two of the best regular-season quarterback performances in league history in Seattle’s wild 41-38 win over the Texans on Sunday. The Seahawks entered the week with the best scoring defense in the league, and proceeded to allow 21 points in the first 21 minutes of the game.

The 38 points was tied for the second most allowed by the Seahawks in a regular-season game since coach Pete Carroll’s first season in 2010. Shootouts have not been part of Seattle’s winning formula, yet Sunday showed they have the capability entirely because of Wilson.

Wilson was responsible for 472 total yards passing and running. Houston’s defense had shown vulnerability Mason Cole Super Bowl LI Jersey , especially with the loss of J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus for the season due to injuries. But Wilson’s performance was special, capping it by going 80 yards in barely a minute and no timeouts, and hitting Jimmy Graham on an 18-yard strike with 21 seconds left to take the lead.

Sherman and others on Seattle’s defense said Wilson’s performance bailed out the Seahawks. Wilson disagreed.

”It’s not about bailing anybody out. It’s about finding a way to win,” he said.

Even more impressive is what Watson did to Seattle’s defense. The Seahawks pride themselves on not allowing big plays, yet surrendered 509 total yards to Houston. The Texans had 10 plays of 20 yards or more against the Seahawks, including touchdown passes of 72 Wholesale Terrell Edmunds Jersey , 59 and 20 yards.

Watson was responsible for 469 yards passing and running. Watson’s first five starts were fantastic. His performance against Seattle – and willingness to attack secondary stars like Sherman and Thomas – was validation that going forward he can star against any defense in any environment.

”The whole defense has a lot of playmakers, future Hall of Famers, All-Pros, a lot of veteran guys, a very good team,” Watson said. ”A very Luke Falk Super Bowl LI Jersey , very smart team. They make you earn it.”

Here’s what else to know about the wild game:

NO RUNNING: Seattle’s got to get its run game fixed. Wilson was the Seahawks leading rusher with 30 yards. The rest of Seattle’s rushers combined 3 yards on 17 carries. It was a pathetic performance in the run game that would be a bigger issue if not for Wilson’s late heroics.

In four of seven games this season, Seattle has failed to reach 100 yards rushing as a team.

”We didn’t think that was going to happen at all,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. ”We wanted to get our rhythm and get going.”

ALL TDs: Perhaps teams need to stop focusing the majority of their attention on DeAndre Hopkins.

Will Fuller has 13 total receptions for the season and seven of those have gone for touchdowns. He had two long TDs against Seattle, including a 59-yarder on Houston’s opening drive, and another long catch down to the 2-yard line. Fuller missed the first three games due to a collarbone injury, but has been nearly unstoppable from finding the end zone since returning.

”When guys want to cheat to my side Royce Freeman Jersey Elite , you have to watch Will and Bruce (Ellington) as well. But Will has been playing his (tail) off,” Hopkins said.

PROTESTING: All but 10 members of the Texans took a knee during the national anthem, as the vast majority of the team protested the owner’s ”inmates running the prison” comment. Left tackle Duane Brown said a meeting with owner Bob McNair went ”not too well,” but the Texans were able to put aside any distraction from the issue.

Brown served as spokesman for the majority of the Texans players and didn’t speculate how the issue would be handled going forward.

”At this point we’re all just trying to play for each other. It will have to come up again at some point,” Brown said.

PITTSBURGH (AP) Le’Veon Bell could potentially make some Pittsburgh Steelers history Sunday.

But will he even get the chance?

For all the Steelers have accomplished Arden Key Jersey Elite , a regular-season league rushing champion has been elusive.

Article continues below ...

Despite two Hall of Fame running backs and four first-team All-Pro backs over the past six decades, the Steelers haven’t had a season rushing champion since ”Bullet” Bill Dudley had 604 yards over an 11-game season in 1946.

For much of this season, Bell appeared poised to end that 71-year drought.

But while Bell has spent most of the past two months in the NFL rushing-yardage lead, he enters Week 17 trailing the Los Angeles Rams’ Todd Gurley by 14 yards and Kansas City Chiefs rookie Kareem Hunt by 1 yard.

With the winless Cleveland Browns at home on the schedule, Bell would appear to be in good position to make a run at the rushing title.

But with the Steelers (12-3) a longshot to earn the AFC’s No. 1 seed – they need to win and have the New England Patriots lose at home to the New York Jets – coach Mike Tomlin has openly mused about resting some of his star players Sunday.

With each of Bell’s previous three seasons having ended with the three-time Pro Bowler injured, that might not be such a bad idea.

”I just want to win the Super Bowl Authentic Kerryon Johnson Jersey ,” Bell said Wednesday. ”I can talk about the rushing title all year; I don’t really care about that. I just want to go out there and make sure that I am healthy, get into the playoffs and get into the Super Bowl.”

Bell – by far – leads the NFL in rushing attempts. With 321, he has 42 more than No. 2 Gurley. Counting his 85 receptions, Bell became only the second player since 2009 to have more than 400 combined rushing attempts/receptions.

Bell’s 2014 (hyperextended knee in the regular-season finale), 2015 (torn MCL in Week 8) and 2016 seasons (groin injury in the playoffs) ended with him on the sideline watching the Steelers.

Those experiences might have gained him a perspective that deems it wise to not push things for a regular-season game against a winless team – all for an individual accolade.

”I look at guys like (the NBA’s LeBron James), he never wins scoring titles JK Scott Jersey Elite , but he’s arguably the best player to ever play the game of basketball,” Bell said.

”So I don’t necessarily care about the rushing title or having the most yards (from scrimmage). I just want to make sure I go out there and do what it takes to help our team win games and Super Bowls.”

Bell is saying all the right things. Privately, though? Veteran guard Ramon Foster said a rushing title would ”absolutely” mean something to Bell.

”But I’d rather have him in January and February,” Foster said. ”He’s OK with that, too.”

Center Maurkice Pouncey similarly called the prospect of blocking for a league rushing champion ”huge,” but didn’t think the coaching staff will let Bell even try.

”I don’t know if they’ll put him out there (Sunday) Adidas Gabriel Landeskog Jersey ,” Pouncey said.

There are other milestones in reach for Bell, too. Counting his 655 receiving yards, Bell is 54 yards shy of the 66th 2,000-yards from scrimmage season in NFL history and 4 yards from reaching 8,000 scrimmage yards over his first five seasons.

Earlier this season, he tied Eric Dickerson for the record for fewest games to 7 Adidas Tyler Seguin Jersey ,500 scrimmage yards (51).

Bell’s scrimmage yards per game (129.7) are actually well off last season’s pace of 157.0 set in 12 games after he was suspended for the first three weeks of the season and sat out the meaningless regular-season finale.

Bell’s yards per carry (4.0) and yards per catch (7.7) are the second-lowest of his career.

Not exactly ideal for a player who’s signed under the franchise tag in 2017 and is due for another spring of unrestricted free agency (barring another franchise tag used by the Steelers).

Then again, Bell’s production is down only based off the lofty standards he’s established.

”I feel like, it is what it is, you know?” Bell said of perhaps missing out on a rushing title. ”For me personally, I just want to win Super Bowls.”

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Jacoby Brissett followed his weekly routine Sunday.

The Indianapolis Colts quarterback kept picking himself up off the turf and lining up behind center. Perhaps he should have sat out this one.

After being cleared through the NFL’s concussion protocol late in the third quarter of a 20-17 loss to Pittsburgh Wholesale Nick Nelson Jersey , Brissett didn’t take postgame questions because he was still being evaluated for a head injury by team doctors.

Article continues below ...

”Scotty (Tolzien) started warming up as soon as Jacoby came out, because we could have lost him for the entire game,” coach Chuck Pagano said, explaining one of Sunday’s odder scenes. ”So he went through the protocol and passed it and got back out there in time to run that series.”

Team officials said Brissett was initially evaluated for a concussion on the sideline twice – once with team doctors and once by the unaffiliated neurological consultant. He passed both times. Then, after the game Authentic Roquan Smith Jersey , he developed concussion-like symptoms again and returned to the protocol.

Brissett finished the game, as he has done every week since replacing Tolzien as the starter in Week 2.

The second-year QB has repeatedly told reporters he believes he owes it to his teammates to continue playing, regardless of the situation, even though his toughness has never been questioned.

Brissett wound up 14 of 24 for 222 yards with two TD passes and one interception despite getting sacked three more times and taking a multitude of hits from the Steelers. The problem has been his late-game performances, which have included four interceptions in the fourth quarter or overtime this season.

And the biggest mistake he made Sunday came on the first pass he threw after being allowed to return.

”It doesn’t fall on one guy Jalyn Holmes Jersey Elite ,” Pagano said. ”We’ve got to play better, we’ve got to coach better. It’s on all of us.”

Brissett appeared to get hurt when he took a shot to the head from Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier on a 3-yard run with the Colts leading 17-9 late in the third quarter. Brissett stayed down briefly, then got up and jogged to the sideline where he was tested for a head injury.

A few minutes later, following a Steelers punt, Tolzien ran onto the field and into the huddle. Before play resumed Adidas James Neal Jersey , Brissett grabbed his helmet and ran onto the field, forcing Tolzien to sprint to the sideline.

”The docs did a great job and he went through the proper procedures, through the protocol, and he got back out there,” Pagano said.

But Brissett continued to be ineffective. His first pass went through the hands of Jack Doyle and was picked off by Shazier at the Colts 10-yard line.

Three plays later Wholesale John Franklin-Myers Jersey , Ben Roethlisberger found Vance McDonald wide open in the end zone for a 7-yard score, and then Roethlisberger hooked up with Martavis Bryant for a 2-point conversion that tied the score at 17 with 11:52 to play.

Brissett managed just one more first down the rest of the way as Roethlisberger twice drove the Steelers into field-goal position, finally setting up Chris Boswell for the decisive 33-yarder as time expired.

Now the Colts could be in store for a weeklong debate about Brissett’s injury.

Four quarterbacks are certain to go in the first round of the NFL draft Thursday night Adidas Jeff Skinner Jersey , all of them early.

Five might be off the board midway through the top 32 picks. And, who knows given the desperation pro teams are displaying about finding that franchise QB, we could see six of them go on opening night.

Barring trades – and there will be a few of them – here’s one attempt at a mock draft.

Article continues below ...

1. Cleveland

Once more, the Browns try to find their long-term guy at the key offensive position. There are plenty of positives and enough negatives about the top four quarterbacks to make this a crapshoot. We’ll roll with the QB with the most upside …

JOSH ALLEN, QB, WYOMING

2. New York Giants

Despite the screams from Big Blue fans to find the replacement for Eli Manning, the Giants believe he has two or three very good years left. So do we. Helping Manning recapture the glory will be the highest-rated player in the entire draft.

SAQUON BARKLEY, RB, PENN STATE

3. New York Jets (from Indianapolis)

They traded to this spot with one express purpose: finding the next Joe Namath. Or a reasonable facsimile.

SAM DARNOLD, QB, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

4. Cleveland (from Houston)

The Browns took a stud defensive end last year at the top in Myles Garrett. They get to bookend him with this crop’s top defensive player.

BRADLEY CHUBB, DE, NORTH CAROLINA STATE

5. Denver

Many teams will call the Broncos when they see that two of the hyped quarterbacks remain. John Elway will listen, then will grab what he hopes will be the next, well, John Elway.

BAKER MAYFIELD Fred Warner Super Bowl LI Jersey , QB, OKLAHOMA

6. Indianapolis (from N.Y. Jets)

If they don’t trade again – and if they’re convinced Andrew Luck will, indeed, return to Pro Bowl form – the Colts have lots of options here. They also have tons of needs.

QUENTON NELSON, G, NOTRE DAME

7. Tampa Bay

Nelson would have been on the Bucs‘ radar, but no other blocker rates in the top 10, so they turn to filling a hole on defense with …

DENZEL WARD, CB, OHIO STATE

8. Chicago

Certainly not in the quarterback derby after their bold move for Mitchell Trubisky a year ago, the Bears can go many ways here. The most help for them to go up in the NFC North is …

TREMAINE EDMUNDS, LB, VIRGINIA TECH

9. San Francisco

With Jimmy G in the fold for years (and multi-millions), the rapidly rebuilding and improving 49ers get a stud on the defensive side reminiscent of Patrick Willis.

ROQUAN SMITH, LB, GEORGIA

10. Oakland

Predicting what Jon Gruden ever will do – such as leaving the comfort of the broadcast booth for the Black Hole – is foolhardy. Then again Adidas Patrick Kane Jersey , what is a mock draft?

MINKAH FITZPATRICK, S, ALABAMA

11. Miami

The Dolphins worked on every kind of scenario to get them into the QB derby. Guess what: Miami’s staying put was the best strategy.

JOSH ROSEN, QB, UCLA

12. Buffalo (from Cincinnati)

Lots of groaning going on in Western New York after division rival Miami takes Rosen. The Bills could reach here for a quarterback, but are better served addressing the chasm on the offensive line with …

MIKE McGLINCHY, T, Notre Dame

13. Washington

Other than the trade for Alex Smith, a big one of course, the Redskins have been relatively quiet this offseason. There’s a need on the defensive line and in the secondary. With such a choice, go for the pass rusher.

MARCUS DAVENPORT, DE, UTSA

14. Green Bay

This is not a top-heavy draft for receivers, but one stands out as a first-rounder. Aaron Rodgers has expressed some ”differences” with the Packers on offseason moves, but will like this one.

CALVIN RIDLEY, WR Wholesale Clive Walford Jersey , ALABAMA

15. Arizona

Bruce Arians is gone. Carson Palmer is gone. Most significantly, Tyrann Mathieu is gone, and that’s the guy who will be replaced here.

DERWIN JAMES, S, FLORIDA STATE

16. Baltimore

Ozzie Newsome’s last draft. The GM has been spot-on so many times in his tenure, but he’s also missed recently with some high picks. Baltimore’s offense needs a boost.

DERRIUS GUICE, RB, LSU

17. L.A. Chargers

We said the Giants weren’t looking at the future replacement for Eli Manning. The Chargers, who traded Manning’s rights to New York back in 2004 and got Philip Rivers, take a different approach.

LAMAR JACKSON, QB, LOUISVILLE

18. Seattle

Don’t you dare utter the world ”rebuild” around GM John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll. Not even in a whisper. Still, this roster needs some big-time hits in the draft. Maybe start with …

JOSH JACKSON, CB, IOWA

19. Dallas

A receiver would seem to make sense, except no wideouts warrant this spot. Edge rusher does Tyquan Lewis Jersey Elite , as well as almost anybody on defense. Cowboys take big guy in middle.

VITA VEA, DT, WASHINGTON

20. Detroit

Matt Patricia is a defensive coach and the Lions have enough needs there for him to skip filling the holes at tight end or running back to get an all-around stud.

HAROLD LANDRY, DE-LB, BOSTON COLLEGE

21. Cincinnati (from Buffalo)

Anyone and everyone is on the board for Cincinnati, which never shies away from character issues with its players. There aren’t such issues with …

WILL HERNANDEZ, G, UTEP

ST. LOUIS — Desperate times called for desperate measures.

Searching for anything to give spark to an offense rendered listless since Jaden Schwartz’s ankle injury on Dec. 9 Wholesale Marquez Valdes-Scantling Jersey , St. Louis Blues coach Mike Yeo went with an 11/7 (11 forwards/seven defensemen) formation against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.

The move made sense, giving the Blues insurance in case defenseman Jay Bouwmeester, who was returning from injured reserve, wasn’t 100 percent.

It also paid off, thrusting fourth-liners Kyle Brodziak and Scottie Upshall into more prominent offensive roles. Brodziak and Upshall scored in the Blues’ 3-2 victory over the Hurricanes.

Prior to the Saturday win, St. Louis lost five of its previous six games.

“It was a tough month for us for sure Adidas Alex Ovechkin Jersey ,” Brodziak told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “Having trouble scoring goals. … We know we’re a better team than we’ve shown in the last month, and it’s something we’ve just got to build back up again.”

Though the 11/7 formation is not considered a long-term fix, Yeo wouldn’t rule it out for the Blues’ Tuesday night home game against the New Jersey Devils.

“For one, ‘Bouw’ hasn’t been in for a while, to give him a chance to protect (himself),” Yeo said after the Carolina win. “The guys have been playing well. I thought it freed up some opportunities to get a little extra ice time to some guys up front. There was a couple things that came into it.”

The Blues hope it is the start to better things in 2018.

“The game of hockey is never perfect Authentic Marquis Haynes Jersey , it’s never X’s and O’s,” Upshall told NHL.com. “You have (23) guys you can use on every different night, and tonight was an opportunity for guys like Brodziak, ‘Maggie’ (Magnus Paajarvi) stepped in and did a great job, and ‘Barby’ (Ivan Barbashev) was doing everything he’s asked and more. Just an opportunity for everyone to take bigger steps to move this group in the right direction without ‘Schwartzy’ (Jaden Schwartz), not to mention what ‘Bouw’ was able to do back there was huge. He was a big force and didn’t look like he missed a step.”

NEW YORK — The Toronto Maple Leafs are two weeks away from embarking upon a pursuit they hope will allow the franchise to achieve something it hasn’t done in more than 50 years. The New York Islanders will have far more modest and shorter-term goals in mind Friday night Dalton Schultz Jersey Elite , when they host the Maple Leafs at Barclays Center.

Both teams won their most recent games. The Maple Leafs continued surging toward the playoffs Wednesday, when they beat the visiting Florida Panthers 4-3. The Islanders earned a rare victory Tuesday, when they edged the host Ottawa Senators 4-3.

The win was the team-record 46th of the season for the Maple Leafs (46-24-7). The 1998-99, 1999-2000 and 2003-04 clubs all won 45 games apiece.

But as notable as the achievement was Wednesday night, the Maple Leafs have far loftier goals in mind Uchenna Nwosu Jersey Elite , Toronto hasn’t reached the Stanley Cup Finals since winning its last championship in 1967. Both droughts are by far the longest among the NHL’s “Original Six” franchises.

“It’s nice to get, obviously,” Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock said about the 46th victory following Wednesday’s game. “But we’ve got bigger plans. We’re just moving along and trying to get better.”

The Maple Leafs, who are one point away from their first 100-point season since 2003-04, are all but locked into third place in the Atlantic Division and a first-round matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning or Boston Bruins. Boston moved past Tampa Bay and into first place in the Atlantic Division with a 4-2 victory over Tampa Bay on Thursday.

While the Maple Leafs have history in mind Geron Christian Super Bowl LI Jersey , the Islanders (32-35-10) just want to remember what it’s like to win consecutive games. The win Tuesday was just the third in the last 17 games (3-10-4) for New York since its most recent two-game winning streak Feb. 15-16.

The Islanders have produced back-to-back wins only three times since the end of November. No wonder, then, that New York was officially eliminated from playoff contention with a 3-0 loss to the Panthers on Monday night.

“As athletes, we want to win — we hate losing, so we want to compete Cody Latimer Jersey Elite , go out there, work hard and do the right things,” Islanders left winger Anthony Beauvillier told the team’s website following Tuesday’s game. “It’s about pride, playing for us and feeling good about ourselves.”

Maple Leafs goalie Frederik Andersen is likely to oppose the Islanders’ Jaroslav Halak in a battle of number one net-minders.

Andersen earned the win Wednesday, when he stopped 30 shots against the Panthers. Halak notched the victory Tuesday Shaquem Griffin Jersey Elite , when he recorded 33 saves against the Senators.

Andersen is 5-1-1 in seven career appearances against the Islanders while Halak is 8-3-4 in 16 games against the Maple Leafs.

With a win Friday, the Maple Leafs will sweep the season series from the Islanders for the first time since the 1996-97 campaign. The first two meetings this season were played at Air Canada Centre, where Toronto cruised to a 5-0 win Jan. 31 and earned a 4-3 shootout victory Feb. 22.

The teams can’t pretend it will be just another game when the Pittsburgh Steelers visit the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night in an AFC North showdown.

The Steelers won the clubs’ first meeting in Week 7 at Pittsburgh, 29-14.

Article continues below ...

Both teams are coming off Week 12 wins.

The Steelers (9-2) are currently riding a six-game win streak and have beaten the Bengals (5-6) five straight times. Pittsburgh was on the winning side against Cincinnati eight out of the past nine meetings.

Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown enters the game playing at an MVP level. He leads the league in receptions (80) and yards (1,195). Six times this season, Brown eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark Authentic Denzel Ward Jersey , though he did not top 100 yards against the Bengals.

Brown has faced the Cincinnati defense 15 times in his career, 14 regular-season games and one playoff game. He went over 100 yards only three times in those contests, most recently in the playoffs after the 2015 season.

Brown has just five receiving touchdowns against the Bengals.

The 2017 Cincinnati pass defense has been very strong and will look to slow Brown and the Steelers passing attack again.

Cincinnati ranks fifth in the NFL in pass defense, only allowing 203.8 yards a game. The Bengals are 10th in the NFL in points allowed at 19.5 per contest, so they figure to put pressure on Pittsburgh’s offensive line and running back Le’Veon Bell.

Bell leads the NFL in rushing at 981 yards. He is poised to pass the 1,000-yard mark on a season for the third time in his five-year NFL career.

Getting a mere 19 yards Sunday shouldn’t be a problem as the Michigan State product is facing a Bengals defense that is 28th in the NFL at stopping the run, allowing opponents an average of 126.6 yards a game.

The Bengals finally had their own strong showing in the run game last week in a 30-16 win over the Cleveland Browns. Led by rookie running back Joe Mixon Authentic DaeSean Hamilton Jersey , the Bengals churned out 152 rushing yards.

Finding that same freedom against the Steelers will not be so easy. The Pittsburgh defense only gives up an average of 96 yards per game on the ground, which ranks sixth in the NFL.

The Steelers’ defense is ranked fourth in the league points allowed at 17.5 a contest.

If the Bengals are going to win, quarterback Andy Dalton needs to make big plays in the passing game, especially to wide receiver A.J. Green. On paper, Pittsburgh pass defense looks stalwart, ranking third in the NFL by only allowing 193.4 yards a game. But the Steelers’ secondary has been gashed by big pass plays all season.

In Pittsburgh’s 31-28 win over Green Bay on Sunday, Packers quarterback Brett Hundley threw three touchdown passes of 39 yards or longer. The Tennessee Titans scored on a 75-yard touchdown pass against the Steelers. The Indianapolis Colts scored twice on passes of 60 yards or more Rashaan Gaulden Super Bowl LI Jersey , and the Detroit Lions’ Matthew Stafford threw for 423 yards against the Steelers with two completions of 40 yards or more.

“You can’t give up chunks on defense and give yourself chances to win,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said after the Green Bay game. “We were able to overcome those things. We were probably fortunate, but it’s also probably a good sign of the group in terms of we’re a good enough team to kind of overcome those things.

“We got enough togetherness to stay on task, but obviously we got to minimize some of those things. Some of those things have been issues for us in multiple games, particularly the big plays of late, so obviously that has to stop yesterday.”

While Steelers need to eliminate giving up big plays on defense, the Bengals need Dalton to have a consistent Wholesale Robert Griffin III Jersey , turnover=free night.

The Pittsburgh offense should look to ride the legs of Bell, as the Bengals’ defense has fared well at containing Brown. Cincinnati can’t allow a different Steelers receiver or Bell to have a big game.
