The New York Giants begin three hopefully peaceful and productive days of joint practices with the Detroit Lions on Tuesday in Detroit. Here is what you need to know about those practices. How will they work? The Giants and Lions will hold three practices New York Giants Womens Hoodie , Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The first two practices will be full-speed ones that begin at 9:40 a.m. ET. The final practice on Thursday will be a lighter one that begins at 9:10 a.m.“Matt (Patricia, Detroit’s head coach) and I have organized these practices before, so we have kind of a set of guidelines that we want our guys to follow, but just looking forward to playing against new faces in a new scheme,” Giants coach Pat Shurmur said. The Thursday practice is unusual, as players are normally either off or have a simple walk-thru the day before games.“It’s going to be two-third speed stuff. It’s not going to be (full speed),” Shurmur said. “There’ll be some periods in there that might be full speed, but, again, our players are playing a partial game, and so I still think it’s important to remember we’re in training camp.”What is the goal for the Giants?Shurmur hopes that the practices against another opponent, and in another location, will be a good experience for his team.“I think when we do training camp here, we really don’t change our environment like some years or some teams that go away. So this is a good event for us also to be a team away for a few days,” Shurmur said. “There’s some esprit de corps to that, some bonding, so we’ll take advantage of that and then, again Womens Customized New York Giants Jerseys , it’s new players against a new scheme.”What about the possibility for fights?A nasty brawl broke out on Monday in a joint practice between the New York Jets and Washington Redskins. Shurmur said Monday he wants to avoid those “flare ups.”“We want our guys to be smart, we want our guys to compete, be smart, we want to stay off the ground, we want to eliminate all that chatter and just keep it encouraging. That’s part of being of being a pro is being able to practice not only with your team but with other teams, and so I understand competitive spirit. Those are two teams [the Jets and Redskins] and that’s their experience. We’re going to try to guard against it,” Shurmur said.“We’ll just try to do what we can to make sure we get work and don’t have those flare ups.”How much will Odell Beckham Jr. do?Beckham has looked completely healthy during training camp, but Shurmur held him out of the preseason opener. In fact, the coach said he never intended for Beckham to play in that game. How much will the star wide receiver do in practice vs. the Lions?Shurmur gave a non-answer answer to that question.“I know it’s probably getting old for you to hear my answer, but I’m just going to try to be smart with Odell as he comes back,” Shurmur said. “You see him out here and what he can do in practice, I just want to be smart in all conditions as we lead up to the season.”How do the players feel about the practices?“My experience has always been positive with it, they (the practices) have been very competitive,” said Nate Solder, who participated in these practices a number of times as a member of the New England Patriots. “Usually it’s a very professional atmosphere where guys play hard between the whistles. I think that’s the way you have to keep it, because tensions can rise when you’re that competitive at times. That’s always a good thing as long as guys are doing it in the spirit of competition.”Our practice reportsJeremy Reisman of SB Nation’s Lions website, Pride of Detroit, will be providing us with practice reports on Tuesday and Wednesday. Games Womens Customized New York Giants Jerseys , Before I get started, I would be remiss if I didn’t express my concern for everyone who was, and is, in the path of Hurricane Florence. Hopefully you, or if you have family or friends in the storm’s path, are safe and sound. But while our thoughts go out to all those effected by the storm, football will roll on, and the third week of the college football season is here. The New York Giants scouts will be out and about, searching for future Giants as the draft process is already under way for scouting departments around the NFL. So then, which games, and players, might be worth watching while we wait for Sunday night to get here? Let’s take a look.(17) Boise State at (24) Oklahoma StateESPN - 3:30 p.m. As you might expect from a pair of big-name ranked schools, there is NFL talent on both sidelines in this game. They may not be powerhouses like Alabama, Clemson, or Ohio State www.giantscheapshops.com , but there will be players to watch this game. And if you like offensive football, these two teams can put up points. Boise State lit up UConn to the absurd tune of 810 yards of total offense and 62 points, with QB Brett Rypien putting up 372 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a little over one half of work.Oklahoma State, meanwhile, beat South Alabama 55-15 in their week two match-up. Running back Justice Hill only put up a little over 3.6 yards per carry, but scored 2 touchdowns in his 9 carries. This will mark the first time either team has faced anything like an equally matched opponent. If that’s the case, Wisconsin is one of the best teams to watch. With their run-first offense and Pro-Style blocking scheme, their linemen come out incredibly well coached and prepared for the NFL. For fans ready to move on from Ereck Flowers, Badgers’ right tackle David Edwards might be your first draft-crush. Big, powerful, athletic, and a beast in the run game, the former tight end is a name to watch. Players to watchWisconsinDavid Edwards (OT)Tyler Biadasz (OC)Jon Dietzen (OG)T.J. Buckeyes’ defensive end Nick Bosa (younger brother of Los Angeles Chargers EDGE Joey Bosa) could well be the number one overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, and he certainly won’t be alone. While they have the best edge rusher in the country on their defense, Ohio State won’t have a monopoly on the position in this game. EDGE Ben Banogu looks to be a future NFL player at the EDGE position in a 3-4 or hybrid defense. Undersized for the 4-3, he is a good fit as a pass rushing linebacker with solid length, a fast first step, and good hands. Well, Thursday we learned that McGaughey — absent much of the time in recent months — has been undergoing cancer treatments.McGaughey met with reporters on Thursday and said he underwent a procedure during the offseason to remove a growth in his bowel duct, during which cancer was discovered in that growth. He has been undergoing chemotherapy treatments for what he said was approximately the past two months.“It’s going good,” the coach told the media.Giants general manager Dave Gettleman has also been undergoing treatments for lymphoma, and appears to be in remission. The two also worked together with the Carolina Panthers.“We share chemotherapy stories,” McGaughey said with a smile. “It is what it is. Just gotta fight through it.”McGaughey said he has a couple of treatments remaining, but his recent scan was “fine.”McGaughey told reporters he would continue to coach, and that he never thought about missing the season.“As a football coach you don’t think about that stuff. You get up, you do what you do abnd live life,” McGaughey said. “I’m not gonna let any chemotherapy or cancer or anything else get in the way of what I do. I’m a father, I’m a football coach and that’s what I do.“Nobody care. They’re not going to feel sorry for you. It’s get up New York Giants Hats , go to work and you’ve gotta earn your paycheck.”There were some football-related questions for McGaughey, as well.On his reaction if coach Pat Shurmur lets Saquon Barkley and Odell Beckham Jr, return kicks“Thank God ... pretty simple.”“These guys are play makers. Any time you get a chance to put play makers out on the field, give you the best chance to win, that’s what you want to do. You’re trying to win the game,” McGaughey said.“Both those guys are special athletes. Whenever you get a chance to get the ball in the hands of a special athlete you want to do it.”On the punting progress of Riley Dixon“Riley’s getting better. He’s taking the coaching,” McGaughey said. “We made some minor adjustments as far as how he warms up, getting him a settled in routine. He’s coming along.”On changes made by placekicker Aldrick Rosas“More mental than anything. He has a ton of talent. In his mind, he has to have confidence into himself, and just be able to repeat the same process, tedious process over and over again – in his mind as far as being able to take some steps back, see the target, and just relax and swing through the ball,” McGaughey said. “He’s just one year out. He’s getting better.”

RUTHERFORD www.newyorkgiantsteamonline.com , N.J. — What did we learn Friday night as the New York Giants defeated the New York Jets 22-16 in NFL preseason action? Let’s take a look.Maybe we should worry about Jonathan StewartThree carries for -7 yards. A costly fumble on first-and-goal at the Jets’ 6-yard line. His best run of the night went for a yard. I have been preaching patience with the 11-year veteran, but he now has 10 preseason carries for -9 yards and now I think it might be time to be alarmed. I turned to someone in the press box Friday night and said Stewart looked like a slow-moving glacier. That’s not a good thing for an NFL running back.Hunter Sharp had a good night ... and a bad oneA week after muffing a punt and fumbling a kickoff, Sharp showed his skills with a 55-yard punt return for a touchdown. The play was beautifully blocked, with the finisher a terrific block from Ray-Ray Armstrong. Sharp sealed the touchdown with a perfectly delivered stiff arm to shed the final Jet defender who had a chance to make a play.Unfortunately, as a receiver Sharp had a tough night. He dropped two perfect Eli Manning passes, both of which were third-down throws that would have resulted in first downs. He and Manning also appeared to have a miscommunication on a throw in the end zone, with Sharp breaking to the inside and Manning throwing to the outside. So, a mixed bag. Let’s not put Sharp on the 53-man roster just yet.Hunter Sharp celebrates a punt return touchdown.Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY SportsFirst-team offensive line a mixed bagThere were both good and bad signs from the Giants starting offensive line on Friday night. The good — The pass protection was outstanding. Eli Manning was never sacked in 23 drop backs, was hit only once and was comfortable in the pocket throughout the first half. That’s a big part of why he was able to go 17-of-23 (73.9 percent completion rate) for 188 yards. The bad — The run-blocking was non-existent. Jonathan Stewart (3 carries, -7 yards) and Wayne Gallman (6 carries, 8 yards) combined for 1 solitary yard in their 9 rushing attempts. Stewart’s problems — and there definitely appear to be some — aside there weren’t any holes and there were too many Jets defenders in the backfield.Sam Darnold is going to be good The Jets’ rookie quarterback showed a lot of good things Friday night. He led a game-opening 75-yard touchdown drive New York Giants T-Shirt , which included a 14-yard run for a first down. He ended his night 8-of-16 for 86 yards and a touchdown, throwing several beautiful touch passes along the way. If Darnold is their Week 1 starter you can bet the Jets will play things a little tight to the vest, but the 21-year-old showed plenty for Jets fans to be excited about. It’s still Kerry Wynn’s worldThe veteran defensive end, outstanding in the first two preseason games, continued his excellent play. He had a sack, two tackles for loss, a quarterback hit and very nearly made a diving interception of a tipped pass.Hey, look what good blocking can do Eli Manning was never sacked. He was hit just once that I can recall. He stood comfortably in the pocket most of the night, not having to move around to find throwing lanes or avoid being pounded. That had to have a lot to do with Manning going 17-of-23 for 188 yards. Take away the drops by Sharp and Manning’s night looks even that much better. Amazing what Manning’s 37-year-old arm can still accomplish when he has time to do it.Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY SportsDave Gettleman must be feeling goodThe Giants general manager, currently in remission in a fight with lymphoma, was at Friday’s game. Gettleman wandered through the press box before the game New York Giants Hats , looking good and talking to a number of people. He also came through the locker room after the game.Yeah, the Giants hat on his head looked goofy, but it was still good to see that the GM felt good enough deal with the crowds.Remission or not, we know Gettleman’s fight isn’t over. We continue to wish him the best.Report: CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie signing with Oakland Raiders Former New York Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has signed with the Oakland Raiders, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.Rodgers-Cromartie signed a five-year, $35 million contact with the Giants in the spring of 2014. With the Giants, he played outside corner, slot corner, and safety, and he played well — even when the rest of the defense didn’t. With the arrival of the new regime in 2018, the Giants elected to move Rodgers-Cromartie from his reserve cornerback role to free safety New York Giants Hoodie , a move he embraced. However, DRC was released by the team in March after refusing to take a pay cut following his move. After parting ways with both Rodgers-Cromartie and Ross Cockrell, the Giants’ depth at the position became worrisome, and even more so after the season-ending injury to Sam Beal. With few proven options behind the Giants starters, fans began to wonder if the Giants might re-sign DRC. That ship officially sailed Wednesday. As it stands now, the Giants are looking at a platoon of William Gay, B.W. Webb, Leonard Johnson, Grant Haley, and Donte Deayon behind Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple.

The Bucs’ defensive line against the Lions’ offensive lineTampa Bay’s new-look defensive line has been pretty damn good so far through two weeks of the preseason. The Lions haven’t had their starting front five together on the field for one play so far during the preseason. A lot of that is attributed to T.J. Lang’s injury Beau Allen Jersey , but it is still a talking point nonetheless. But the Lions’ offensive line isn’t what makes this matchup so intriguing. The Bucs are dealing with plenty of depth issues of their own on the opposite side. With Vita Vea and Mitch Unrein already out, the Bucs are thin on the inside. Beau Allen was injured earlier in the week during practice and it is unknown as to whether or not he will play. The Bucs also released tackle Stevie Tu’ikolovatu before the Titans game, signed Drew Iddings, then waived Iddings on Sunday. The carousel didn’t stop there, either. Tampa Bay went ahead and signed Adam Reth and Jerel Worthy for depth. It’ll be interesting to see who steps up at DT for the Bucs on Friday night. With all of the new faces in town, the hope is that someone can make a move. 2. How will the injuries affect the offensive line?Everyone in the Bay area knows they dodged a major bullet when it was revealed that left tackle Donovan Smith’s injury on Tuesday was a sprained knee. But Smith’s injury now gives the Bucs at least four offensive tackles that were hurt throughout training camp and the preseason. Michael Liedtke is expected to start for him on Friday night. The Bucs will be without Donovan Smith for the first time during his careerChristopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY SportsSmith has never missed a game, so this is new territory for him and the franchise. The Bucs haven’t had their expected starting five together at all during the preseason so it will be interesting to see how the newest lineup performs. So far, the line has performed well in pass protection but has really struggled opening lanes in the run game. The Lions have a very good pass rusher in Ezekiel Ansah and they have been using him all over the defense in Matt Patricia’s new-look defense. Expect Ansah and the Lions to try and take advantage of the Bucs’ patchwork line tonight. 3. Shaun Wilson vs. Dare OgunbowaleThe recent news on Charles Sims, while disappointing, opens the door for one of these two running backs to possibly grab the fourth running back spot on the roster if the Bucs decide to carry four backs into the season. Wilson looks to have the advantage at the moment. When healthy, Dirk Koetter has praised him multiple times during camp and he has looked very good out of the backfield and in the return game. But don’t count Ogunbowale out. He made a huge 38-yard catch last week against the Titans and has improved while in camp. Peyton Barber is the starter for this team - so there is no need to give him a ton of playing time tonight - while Ronald Jones II should see a lot of first-half action to build some much-needed confidence. That leave Ogunbowale and Wilson to battle it out in the second half and it will be fun to watch. 4. Can Justin Watson solidify himself as the No. 5 receiver?Friday is a big night for Watson. A healthy Bobo Wilson is pretty much the only thing standing in his way for that coveted spot. Wilson was back on the field practicing this week, so Watson knows what is at stake. If you’ve been following my training camp observations, you already know how big a fan I am of Watson. Last week Authentic DeSean Jackson Jersey , he furthered my belief in him when he caught this beautiful touchdown from Jameis Winston. If the Bucs decide to carry six receivers into the season, they will still have to make a big decision. Sergio Bailey, Freddy Martino, Wilson, Jake Lampman, Ervin Phillips, and Bernard Reedy have all made plays this offseason. Tampa Bay is loaded at receiver, so this is a good problem to have. 5. How will the secondary look without Justin Evans?Sure, his injury isn’t deemed serious, but this couldn’t have happened to Evans’ at a worse time. Not only was he expected to anchor the backfield this season - he was also filling in at the slot position in nickel packages due to other injuries in the secondary. So now the Bucs are down a valuable player who was also providing major depth before injury. Who will they trot out against the Lions? The popular thought is it will be Keith Tandy and Chris Conte at safety with Brent Grimes and Vernon Hargreaves III on the outside. It shouldn’t be a crazy lineup change, but it is the preseason so the coaching staff could experiment a bit. They will be going up a loaded receiving corps with one of the best quarterbacks in the league, as well. They better bring their best game. 6. Will anyone show up?It’s only preseason, you can’t fault anyone who doesn’t go Adam Humphries Jersey , but fan interest should be something the Bucs’ higher ups pay attention to for the first home game. The fact that it is in week three also adds more of an onus for fans to show up. With Winston’s suspension and the disappointment of 2017, will anyone come? We will certainly find out when the game kicks off at 8 p.m. EST. Doug Martin was in need of a new start after two straight subpar seasons led to his offseason release by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.Getting the chance to do it near his boyhood home in Northern California, with an Oakland team featuring a strong offensive line and a coach in Jon Gruden eager to establish a powerful running attack, only made the decision to join the Raiders even easier. Now Martin wants to prove he can get back to the form that made him a Pro Bowler twice in his first four seasons."My approach is just basically I'm a rookie again," Martin said. "I have to prove to the team and the players, coaches that I can be useful on this team. Like I said, I just act like a rookie and go out and play. Play the game that I love."Martin has had a roller-coaster career since entering the league with Tampa Bay as a first-round pick out of Boise State in 2012. He is the only player currently on an NFL roster with two seasons of at least 1,400 yards rushing, reaching that mark as a rookie with the Bucs and then again three years later in Tampa Bay.But he has failed to reach 500 yards rushing in his other four seasons in the NFL and is also the only active player with two seasons averaging fewer than 3 yards per carry with at least 100 attempts, doing that the past two years when he was hampered by injuries and a four-game suspension for violating the league policy on performance-enhancing drugs.Martin also was suspended one game last year by the Bucs for a violation of team rules, all contributing to the decision by Tampa Bay to cut him this offseason."The past couple of years I just got in my own way," he said. "Being here and having my family around and old friends, it's definitely going to help me stay busy. I can always confide in them if I need something to talk about."Martin Demar Dotson Jersey , who grew up in nearby Stockton, fondly remembers his only other trip to the Bay Area as a professional when he ran for 251 yards on 25 carries in Oakland as a rookie in 2012 with about 50 friends and family members in the crowd.Martin also said the opportunity to run Bay Area hills near his grandfather's house has helped get him in top condition that he hopes will benefit him once the season begins. That work has shown up on the field."He finished a run to the end zone today and didn't stop until he got there and then he ran back to make sure he's getting even more in shape," quarterback Derek Carr said. "It's little things like that that show young guys, 'Hey man, that's how you do it.' That's been since Day 1. He's been one of the hardest workers since we got here in Phase 1, hands down. He's been one of the guys out there that just every day sticks out doing something where you see why he's a Pro Bowler."The Raiders are hoping Martin will fit in well in a backfield led by Marshawn Lynch, who rushed for 524 yards and five TDs in his final eight games last season, ranking tied for third in that span in yards rushing per game.Oakland didn't get much consistent help from backups Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington a year ago, leading to the move to add Martin to the mix."Doug has really jumped out in this camp," offensive coordinator Greg Olson said. "His quickness, his ability to pick up the offense and what we've given him. That's been very encouraging. He really has a fresh set of legs and that's probably been the most encouraging. When you watch him run out here in the drills that we've run and the strength and conditioning staff and the things that we've been doing there, it just looks like he's got a real fresh set of legs."

Taylor Buccaneers Vinny Curry Jersey , , there’s an unexpected opportunity for several linebackers due to Kendell Beckwith’s broken ankle that he suffered in a car crash back in mid-April. Adarius Taylor and Devante Bond both saw some action in 2017 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with Taylor ultimately seeing more action and garnering the statistics to back it up (in on 31 tackles). The two players will presumably get first shot at filling in for Beckwith this training camp and have a real shot to make a name for themselves while Beckwith continues to recover from surgery.Devante Bond has the harder fight of the two for reps as he was used sparingly in 2017 by the coaching staff. Bond is a true fighter, showing just that as he made the team as a 6th round pick and has worked on special teams. This past season, Bond racked up a Pro Football Focus (PFF) rating of 51.0 in limited duty which when viewed in a vacuum Cheap Vita Vea Jersey , was a better number than Adarius Taylor put together. Bond isn’t as athletic or instinctive as Taylor on the field and because of this, one would expect Taylor to have an early and potentially insurmountable lead when it comes to replacing Beckwith until he’s healthy. Adarius Taylor got first crack at filling in a season ago due to injuries within the Buccaneers linebacker core and in week 4 was the top performer at the position according to PFF. Taylor recorded a 91.2 overall grade for his play against the Redskins. As a whole, the season wasn’t all that kind to Taylor who closed the year out with a cool 47.4 overall grade according to PFF. Taylor tallied a total of 22 tackles and 9 assists, a forced fumble and fumble recovery as well as a lone sack on the season. The team will hope one of these two young linebackers can step in and hold down the position until Beckwith returns to action but make no mistake about it, neither will make the impact that Beckwith did a year ago where he filled in as the line-backing groups’s multi-tool. As our own Evan Winter wrote back in May Cheap Gerald McCoy Jersey , Beckwith’s injury could be more detrimental than expected and replacing someone who played 80% of the defensive snaps is tough to replace.Bucs Nation and fans alike are wishing for a successful and speedy recovery for Beckwith. Until then, we look forward to the battle that ensues at outside linebacker opposite Lavonte David and next to Kwon Alexander. http://www.tampabaybuccaneersteamonline.com/caleb-benenoch-jersey , TV schedule, online streaming, and more The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finally kickoff their 2018 preseason from Miami as they take on the Dolphins. The first preseason game usually features the started in a limited role and we may see just that. The change here from a year ago would be quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick getting the start down in Miami in preparation for the season. We may see the veteran quarterback play into the second quarter with Jameis Winston coming in behind him. There will be a lot of eyes on several players where fans and media have been anxiously awaiting to see play in a game. Newcomers Jason Pierre-Paul, Vinny Curry, Ryan Jensen, and others will have a lot of eyes on them. Rookies Ronald Jones II, Carlton Davis, and Justin Watson will be among the rookies where we’ll be curiously watching. But this is where many bubble players can begin making an impression.INFORMATIONGame time: 7:00pm ETLocation: Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, FLWeather: 85藲F, Possible ThunderstormsTV: WFLA (NBC/8 - Tampa)Announcers: Chris Myers, Ronde BarberOnline streaming: NFL Sunday Ticket (paid DirecTV service - one-week trial); NFL Game Pass (paid service - shows preseason games live, replays of regular season games)NFL Network Replay: Saturday at 6:30am ET; Tuesday at 4:00amOdds: Dolphins -1.5 | O/U: 34All-time record: Buccaneers 6-5 (Regular Season)Most recent regular season meeting: Buccaneers 30-20 at Miami (Week 11 2017)Streak: Buccaneers 2 wins (2013, 2017); Buccaneers 5 of last 6Most recent preseason meeting: Buccaneers 22-17 at Miami (PS Week 4 2015)Twitter: @Bucs_NationFacebook: Please like us!Changes That Need To Happen It’s not hard to see the struggles for the Buccaneers. For a team that started off 2-0 and were the new hotness around the NFL, this team has displayed being nothing more than average. At the end of the day, you have an offense that can score at will with all the weapons and mismatches they provide along side a defense that can’t stop, well Womens Demar Dotson Jersey , anything. For starters, the defensive scheme has to change. There’s no if’s and’s or but’s about it. Mike Smith consistently puts this team in a position to fail with his lack of blitzing, his zone coverages that rely far too heavily on in-play communication, his propensity to have corners line up 7-10 yards off receivers, and a sheer lack of creativity. It’s been the same story for 36 games and there is no end in sight.Yes, Koetter is going to come the defense of his friend and give the same canned answer when asked about it. About how it’s not Smitty that’s missing tackles, or missing assignments, or blowing coverages. It is, however, on Smith to fix these problems. It’s on Smith to have the self awareness that his defense has given up more than 400 yards in 19 games under his tutelage and the Bucs are 4-15 when it happens. He has to have the self awareness that his defense has given up 30 or more points in 13 games under his tutelage and the Bucs are 1-12 when it happens. It flat out can’t continue. The sad thing is, it will. The players will be the ones to blame, some of which will be shipped out of town or not re-signed because they are square pegs that Smith keeps trying to cram into round holes. A good coordinator schemes to the strength of his players. Lovie Smith did the same thing and when players wouldn’t - or couldn’t - adapt, they were shipped out of town slightly before Lovie himself was sent packing. Mike Smith is costing this team games to the detriment of Koetter, his entire staff, the players, and quite possibly Jason Licht.Offensively, the Bucs have little to complain about. Until a disaster in Chicago Authentic Jason Pierre-Paul Jersey , they were the NFL’s top offense. Will that change with Jameis Winston under center? We’ll see, but smart money says no. It’s hard to see O.J. Howard miss time with the sprained MCL as he was emerging as one of the top tight ends in the NFL, but now the re-emergence of Cam Brate will begin. We saw some timing issues with Winston against the Bears, but that is to be expected after he missed nearly a month of practices and games with the suspension. The big thing to keep an eye on is the run game. The run game just hasn’t gotten going this season. There have been flashes, but no consistency. Again, you can point to the aerial attack and the Bucs’ ability to score from long distance, but when they’ve needed the run game in red zone situations it just hasn’t been there.Ronald Jones’ progression last Sunday looked encouraging. He finished with only 29 yards on ten carries, but there were flashes there. Moments when he was a fraction of a second away from making a big splash play. Again, when you’ve missed nearly a month of game experience your rookie year, there will be growing pains and timing issues. Another thing to look at is the poor play from the right side of the line, mainly Caleb Benenoch. Benenoch has been a turnstile this season and rotating him with Evan Smith hasn’t helped matters any. It was the same nonsense we saw last season. Pick the guy who is playing better and stick with him. Offensive lines don’t need to be rotated the way defensive lines do.This isn’t a knock on Barber, Jones, or Jacquizz Rodgers. All are capable backs that can make plays when called upon. We just haven’t seen that come to fruition yet this season.Overall, the Buccaneers’ offense can overcome the defense’s ineptitude to a certain degree. They will have their opportunities to win games and will capitalize - just like they did against New Orleans. The focus for the foreseeable future is the defense and whether or not they can keep the Buccaneers in games or if it will be a shoot out week after week. As I said many times over throughout the off-season, if the Buccaneers can’t succeed this season it won’t be because they don’t have the talent. It will be because of coaching. So far, the offensive side of the ball has been coached well and seen success. The defensive side of ball is the worst in the NFL.You tell me who the blame should fall on...

The Cleveland Browns won their fifth consecutive preseason game on Thursday as they defeated the New York Giants. While being the preseason champs is fun and everything Youth Nick Chubb Jersey , it would be nice if this team could figure out how to put together a few wins when the games actually count. That day may be coming soon, however, as there were some good things to come out of the game at MetLife Stadium. Here are four takeaways as we wait for the Browns to return to practice on Sunday in preparation for their preseason home opener against the Buffalo Bills on Friday.David Njoku can be a nightmare for the defenseDavid Njoku was targeted three times in the game and finished with a pair of receptions, both of which went for touchdowns. The second-year tight end’s athleticism was on display on his 36-yard catch-and-run touchdown in the first quarter. But it was his dedication to his route on his second touchdown reception that caught the eye of quarterback Baker Mayfield, according to clevelandbrowns.com:Those two catches highlight why the Browns selected Njoku in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft and indicate the matchup problem he can create for opposing defenses. The running game needs to be betterIt was only one game, but the Browns running game was horrific against the Giants. The primary running back trio of Carlos Hyde, Nick Chubb and Duke Johnson combined to rush 17 times for a total of 13 yards. Not all of that falls on the running backs, especially in the case of Chubb, as the offensive line did not always carry the water in the run game:The thought of quarterback Tyrod Taylor and, eventually, Mayfield lighting up the stat sheet in the passing game is fun, but the reality is the Browns are going to need to be able to run the ball if they want to have any hope of success on offense. And if there are more days like Thursday? Well, then it is going to be a long year. The penalties have got to stopFans saw an all-too-familiar sight on Thursday as the Browns were flagged for 13 penalties.A couple of the penalties were clearly of the dubious nature, most notably the taunting penalties on wide receiver Jarvis Landry and cornerback Denzel Ward in the first quarter White Seth DeValve Jersey , but the Browns are simply not good enough to overcome that many mistakes. Simply put, the team needs to tighten things up.The optimism might be validated this timeThis is always the best time of year to be a Browns fan as anything seems possible. Then the regular season starts and reality hit.But this year it feels different.Taylor and Landry bring a level of professionalism to the offense that the Browns have not had in years. The running game should work itself out, and Njoku and Johnson provide some explosive playmaking options for the offense. The defense is filled with a mix of veterans, including Jamie Collins, Christian Kirksey, Mychal Kendricks, and young players who can be difference makers in Myles Garrett, Emmanuel Ogbah, Ward and Jabrill Peppers. There is still a long way to go, but for the first time in a long time the upcoming regular season holds the potential to finally validate the optimism that Browns fans show this franchise on an annual basis. The Oakland Athletics clinched their first playoff berth in four years Monday night, earning at least an American League wild card when the Tampa Bay Rays lost to the New York Yankees.Following three straight last-place finishes in the AL West, the A's found out just a couple of minutes after the first pitch of their game against Seattle that they are in the postseason for the first time since 2014.Tampa Bay's 4-1 loss to the Yankees eliminated the Rays from playoff contention. Oakland still has an outside shot at overtaking Houston for the division title, but is more likely headed toward a wild-card matchup with the Yankees. The A's could still host that game. They beat the Mariners 7-3 to remain 1陆 games behind the Yankees for the top wild card.SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Bobby Evans has been fired as the San Francisco Giants' general manager.San Francisco said Monday that Evans will be reassigned, with responsibilities to be determined. The Giants began the final week of the season 72-84 White JC Tretter Jersey , their second straight losing record. The team will start a search for a new head of baseball operations.Evans was hired by the Giants in 1994, became vice president of baseball operations in 2009 under general manager Brian Sabean and was promoted to GM in April 2015 when Sabean became executive vice president of baseball operations.NFLCLEVELAND (AP) —Baker Mayfield was named the Browns' new starting quarterback on Monday, and the No. 1 pick will make his first start Sunday at Oakland.Coach Hue Jackson made the move to replace Tyrod Taylor with Mayfield after the rookie led the Browns to a 21-17 come-from-behind win Thursday night over the New York Jets — Cleveland's first win since 2016.Under the national TV spotlight, Mayfield came in for an injured Taylor and showed poise during his pro debut. He made quick decisions and throws while completing 17 of 23 passes for 201 yards in just more than one half.Taylor, who sustained a concussion, was starting because the Browns' plan was to have Mayfield watch and learn as a backup until he was ready.SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will need season-ending surgery on his injured left knee. The 49ers said Monday that an MRI confirmed the team's fears that Garoppolo tore his ACL while making a cut late in a loss at Kansas City. The injury deals a serious blow to the 49ers (1-2), who had planned their rebuild around Garoppolo. Now San Francisco must go through the season with C.J. Beathard at quarterback. The Niners struggled with Beathard last season before the midseason addition of Garoppolo changed their fortunes. San Francisco won the final five games last year after Garoppolo took over as starter and the team rewarded him with a $137.5 million, five-year contract.PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Hall of Fame receiver Tommy McDonald has died at 84.His death was announced Monday by the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Cleveland Browns will be without starting defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah on Sunday when they face the New Orleans Saints. Ogbah will miss the game with an ankle sprain he suffered late in the first quarter of the Week 1 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. While Ogbah came back in that game Youth Duke Johnson Jr Jersey , he was limited to just 27 games and was spotted at team headquarters on Monday in a walking boot.As if that was not enough, starting linebacker Christian Kirksey is questionable as he works his way through shoulder and ankle injuries: Kirksey has not missed a game in his NFL career, so it would be surprising if he is not on the field come kickoff on Sunday. The Browns will turn to defensive end Chris Smith, signed in the offseason as a free agent from the Cincinnati Bengals, and Anthony Zettel, claimed off waivers from the Detroit Lions prior to the season opener, in Ogbah’s absence. It should also open up additional pass rushing opportunities for rookie linebacker Genard Avery.Fortunately for the Browns and Ogbah, the third-year defensive end avoided a high-ankle sprain, which would have landed him on the sidelines for multiple weeks. However, with the Browns following up the game against the Saints with a home game against the New York Jets on September 20 - just four days later - it is a distinct possibility that Ogbah will not return to the field until the September 30 game against the Oakland Raiders. It’s disappointing to think of Ogbah missing a pair of games, but if it helps him be healthy for the rest of the season that would help ease the pain.Cleveland Browns Run Pass Options Various forms of Run Pass Options or RPOs have been the subject of NFL headlines since Doug Pederson and the Philadelphia Eagles rode them all the way to a Super Bowl victory last year. Though Pederson’s offense was mocked by NFL players as “High School Offense,” no one could stop them. Not even when starter Carson Wentz went down with an injury and Nick Foles stepped in. Not even defensive genius Bill Bellichick on the biggest stage of them all.Though they are derided by some as “gimmicky,” or a “phase White Jarvis Landry Jersey ,” I believe that RPOs are here to stay. Unlike the Wildcat (which was a fad and relied on an unprepared defense), defenses can’t tell what is coming based on the formation. And unlike the brief stint of QB runs and read option we’ve seen in the NFL, RPOs typically don’t put the franchise player in harm’s way. This is fundamentally sound football, and it works. And RPOs have a history of success in the NFL dating back to at least the Brett Favre New York Jets days, why would they suddenly stop working now?RPOs give the quarterback literally that; an option between handing the ball off on a run play, or passing the ball to an eligible receiver. The offensive line blocks for the running play immediately on the snap, and the back assumes he is getting the ball. Any receivers involved in the pass option run their routes like they normally would on a called pass. The quarterback chooses which play is best for the offense (usually by making a simple read of one or two defenders), and delivers the ball. It’s practice-efficient football, because neither the line nor the receivers are doing something new.A taste of their own medicineAgainst Pederson’s Eagles OC Todd Haley wasted no time introducing some RPOs of his own, calling for one on the very first play of the game:From a 2x2 Pistol formation, the Browns sent Jarvis Landry in motion to ID the coverage. As he saw the CB follow Landry, QB Tyrod Taylor could assume man to man coverage. The Eagles are in a single high safety look, which means they have an extra safety in the box to stop the run. The weakness of this defensive look is that with only one safety deep the Eagles’ corners are either going to play off coverage or they are going to really risk getting beat deep. Before the snap you can see the CB playing off of Landry Youth Jabrill Peppers Jersey , which is when Taylor makes his read. The ball is going outside. On the snap the line blocks for the outside zone running play to the left, as RB Carlos Hyde anticipates getting the handoff. Having made his read, Taylor delivers the ball to Landry, who runs a 1-step “stay” route. The ball gets to Landry for only a 1 yard gain, but with the corner closing hard and a shifty receiver like Landry in space, good things are bound to happen for the Browns.Landry makes a nice move and picks up 11 on the play. Getting the ball to playmakers in space like this is something any good offense does. With this type of RPO, you can ensure your playmakers are put in favorable positions when they get touches.Picking up where he left off in collegeLater in the game, Baker Mayfield got in on the action. Facing a 2nd and 10, Mayfield could be seen making a signal to WR Jeff Janis. He likely saw that the Eagles had stacked the box with 10(!) defenders, making it almost impossible to run the ball. Sure enough, on the snap, the line and RB Nick Chubb are running inside zone to the right, as Mayfield throws a quick slant to Janis. This is a safe and relatively easy way to pick up 5 yards on 2nd and 10. Throwing this type of quick pass is probably a lot more reliable than running into a 10 man box White Terrance Mitchell Jersey , and if Janis is able to break a tackle he could legitimately take this in for a touchdown.Drew tooNot to be left out, QB Drew Stanton also threw to the pass option off of this look in the 4th quarter. Facing an 8 man front, Stanton knew that the Browns’ 7 available blockers likely would not get the job done in the running game. After sending WR Da’Mari Scott in motion across the formation, Stanton saw the same off coverage on WR Jeff Janis that the Browns had been seeing all night. On the snap RB Nick Chubb and the offensive line are still running the inside zone play, but Stanton fires the ball to Janis.Unfortunately on this play, Janis drops the ball despite it hitting him right in the gut. Running the ball is all about arithmetic. If you don’t have enough people to block all of the defenders on a given play, running the ball typically won’t work. When called intelligently and executed well, RPOs ensure that offenses have favorable numbers in the box for their runs. If they don’t, the quarterback simply goes elsewhere with the ball. And “going where the defense is not” is what good offense is all about.I counted no less than 7 of these RPOs in the Browns’ Week 3 preseason game. Not all of them worked as intended, but between Todd Haley’s use of tempo and these RPOs it will be very interesting to see how the offense coalesces in the regular season. Though this isn’t saying much, the 2018 Browns’ offense might be the most advanced and intelligent the franchise has seen since the return.

After the 1962 AFL season, the owner of the Dallas Texans sought out the possibility of moving his franchise to the Crescent City. When he found out that Tulane Stadium (the only facility large enough) was still segregated, he passed and relocated to Kansas City to which the Chiefs were born. As early as 1965, the National Football League (NFL) had eyes on putting a team in Louisiana. Numerous AFL and NFL pre-season games had been played here also.1967 Saints Media GuideFinally in 1967, the NFL granted New Orleans an expansion team and called their team the Saints. But the manner in which this club became an actual pro football team has a story on its own. They were a direct result of the AFL-NFL merger.During the year of 1966, the AFL and the NFL had agreed in secrecy to begin merger proceedings. Both leagues had had enough of the escalating salaries, among other items. On June 8, 1966, it was announced that the leagues would merge completely beginning with the 1970 season. All franchises in both leagues would remain in their present location with a common draft and common preseason schedule beginning in 1967.Even though months and months of negotiations had gone back and forth between representatives of both leagues and numerous obstacles were ironed-out Cleveland Browns Hoodie , there was one piece of business that needed to be addressed; and with this singular morsel, nobody within the NFL nor the AFL had an avenue to accomplish it on their own. There was an impasse. A major problem stood in the way of the merger. In fact, the merger just may not happen at all.FB Ernie Green (#48) gains yardage off blocks by T Monte Clark (#73) and G John Wooten (#60) for the Browns in front of 77,045 fans at Tulane Stadium (New Orleans) in 1967, a 42-7 Cleveland victoryEven though representatives of both leagues had mutually agreed to the unification, the House Judiciary Committee (HJC) in Washington, D. C. had to exempt and approve the merger from antitrust law sanctions. Antitrust laws are set up in the United States as a method to keep competition going, thus giving consumers the advantage of competitive pricing. Without these laws, the result would become higher prices charged for commodities and possibly inferior products, goods or services. Therefore, when the AFL was in competition with the NFL, everyone had the benefit of choices - players had choices, advertisers had choices and the public had choices. Now that the two leagues – the only two leagues by the way – were about to be formed into one entity, this meant suddenly there would be a monopoly on the business of pro football. And this – was a problem. At the time, the chairman of the HJC was Emanuel Celler from New York. By the early fall of 1966, he refused to let the bill out of committee. It was Celler who was the lead House sponsor of the legislation which toughened the “Clayton Antitrust Act of 1914.” This key bill (revised in 1950) closed regulatory loopholes which had once allowed companies to form vertical mergers and also conglomerate mergers - which allowed limits on competition. Having closed up all the gaps in antitrust laws was certainly his specialty, and Celler wasn’t going to budge for some millionaires involved in a children’s game. The NFL commissioner at the time was Pete Rozelle. Upon brainstorming of what the two leagues were to do next Customized Cleveland Browns Jerseys , he spoke with a longtime friend of his from Louisiana named David Dixon. Dixon had been involved with pro football for years and almost owned the Raiders, set up NFL pre-season games in New Orleans and was the driving force for the construction of the Louisiana Superdome. Dixon was also involved in politics.Did you know?David Dixon etched his place in the annals of professional football. He formed the New Orleans Professional Football Club, Inc. in the early 1960’s. After the 1961 season, he had a deal struck to buy the Oakland Raiders of the AFL for $236,000 to which the franchise would become the New Orleans Raiders. The mayor of Oakland interceded and shortly thereafter the deal was cancelled. In 1965 he persuaded the AFL to hold their annual All-Star game in New Orleans and got the NFL to hold numerous pre-season games in the Big Easy. Along with his assistance in getting the Saints, he became a minority owner. Later he was the driving force behind the construction of the Louisiana Superdome. In 1973 he made a presentation to the NFL owners about a spring league that would become a developmental league, sort of like a farm system but eh owners passed on the notion. From that idea he would invent the United States Football League from 1984-1986. Years later, he had in the planning stages three more pro football leagues: America’s Football Teams, Inc., American Football Federation, and the FanOwnership Football League.聽Rozelle inquired if Dixon knew of anyone who could speak to Cellar and try to change his mind on the bill. Dixon had another idea. His old college buddy was House Majority Leader Hale Boggs from Louisiana. Boggs had a need to regain some public trust after he voted in support of the civil rights bill and was suddenly not the popular politician in a heavily-segregated Deep South. Dixon, along with his political advisor, impressed upon the congressman that he could push the bill through. In return, the city of New Orleans would be granted the next expansion team - and Boggs would get the credit for doing so. He covertly attached the exemption to a budget bill that was a certainty to pass in both the House and the Senate thus detouring Celler altogether. The bill passed on October 21.The NFL and AFL got their merger and New Orleans got an immediate franchise.Barry Shuck is a pro football historical writer and a member of the Professional Football Researcher’s Association.

Looking for an offensive boost Nick Castellanos Jersey , the Philadelphia Phillies added an All-Star who may not help them for a while. The NL East-leading Phillies acquired injured catcher Wilson Ramos from the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday for a player to be named or cash. They also got left-hander Aaron Loup from the Toronto Blue Jays for minor league right-hander Jacob Waguespack.Ramos is batting .297 with 14 homers and 53 RBIs but is on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain. General manager Matt Klentak said the best-case scenario has Ramos returning in mid-to-late August, though it’s possible he may be sidelined until September.”We’re uniquely positioned to take on a risk like this,” Klentak said in a conference call. ”The fact he may not be active for a few more weeks is not the end of the world for us.”Ramos said he can do everything behind the plate but still feels pain when he runs. When healthy, Ramos should upgrade an offense that has struggled during a four-game losing streak. He’s also solid defensively.”Wilson Ramos is a proven commodity, both behind the plate and at the plate, and also as a teammate,” Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said.Ramos, who turns 31 next month, has a $10.5 million salary, and the Phillies will be responsible for the remaining $3,443,548. He has 315 plate appearances and can earn $250,000 each for 450, 475 and 500.He is eligible for free agency after the World Series.Jorge Alfaro (.254, 7 homers http://www.tigersfanproshop.com/authentic-james-mccann-jersey , 23 RBIs) has been Philadelphia’s starting catcher with Andrew Knapp (.223, 4, 15) also seeing plenty of action. They’ve combined for 16 errors and 13 passed balls.”My first reaction was surprise,” Ramos said of the trade. ”I was reading a lot of news, but as soon as they told me I was traded to the Phillies, I was happy at the moment but sad at the same time. Happy because that team is in first place and I can do a lot of things to help that team win a lot of games. And sad because I’m very thankful with this team because they helped me a lot. They trust me, give me a contract (after knee surgery in 2016). Now, I’m going to Philadelphia and trying to help that team win the World Series.”The Phillies already added more pop when they acquired infielder Asdrubal Cabrera from the New York Mets last Friday.Kapler said he’s happy the team got stronger ”without sacrificing our future to a large degree.”Loup has a 4.54 ERA in 50 relief appearances this season with 42 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings, and the Phillies will assume the $594,422 remaining of his $1,812,500 salary.Waguespack was 4-6 with a 4.68 ERA in 21 games, including 15 starts, at Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley.”Our bullpen has been among the best in baseball in July,” Klentak said. ”Loup is really good against left-handed hitters. What he can do against lefties to neutralize them is important and something we haven’t had this year.”Infielder Trevor Plouffe and lefty Zach Curtis were designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.—AP Sports Writer Jimmy Golen in Boston and AP freelancer Mark Didtler in St. Petersburg Shane Greene Jersey , Florida, contributed to this report.— NEW YORK (AP) — As he crouched in the on-deck circle, David Wright felt more nervous than he had in his entire career. After all that rehab work, all those months and years spent waiting for this moment, the New York Mets‘ captain finally made it back into a major league game Friday night.“It was my first time on a baseball field that I can remember that I felt like I was going to throw up,” Wright said. “My heart felt like it was beating through my chest.”He didn’t waste any time taking a hack, though.Wright swung at the only pitch he saw, grounding out in his first plate appearance for the Mets in nearly 2½ years as New York lost 8-1 to the Miami Marlins.“It really was amazing,” he said. “I really felt butterflies that I’ve never felt before.”Sidelined by neck, back and shoulder injuries since May 27, 2016, the 35-year-old Wright pinch-hit leading off the fifth inning and received a warm ovation from the Citi Field crowd. After a long and arduous comeback, his return to the diamond was over in a flash. With fans on their feet, his wife and young daughters in attendance and supportive teammates draped over the dugout railing, Wright immediately took a rip at a 96 mph fastball from Jose Urena. The seven-time All-Star hit a bouncer to the left of third baseman Brian Anderson Sparky Anderson Jersey , who made a nifty pickup of a short hop and threw across the diamond to retire Wright. He gave a quick wave to the crowd and touched the bill of his helmet before returning to the dugout, where he high-fived and hugged teammates with a huge smile on his face.“I wish I could have gotten a hit, but putting 96 (mph) in play isn’t so bad, either. So just the reaction from the crowd, I’ll remember that forever,” Wright said. “You make the out and you’re kind of like, man, if that pitch was just a little higher I think I could have done something with it.
