Giants-Lions joint practices: What you need to know from liuyt's blog

The New York Giants begin three hopefully peaceful and productive days of joint practices with the Detroit Lions on Tuesday in Detroit. Here is what you need to know about those practices. How will they work? The Giants and Lions will hold three practices New York Giants Womens Hoodie , Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The first two practices will be full-speed ones that begin at 9:40 a.m. ET. The final practice on Thursday will be a lighter one that begins at 9:10 a.m.“Matt (Patricia, Detroit’s head coach) and I have organized these practices before, so we have kind of a set of guidelines that we want our guys to follow, but just looking forward to playing against new faces in a new scheme,” Giants coach Pat Shurmur said. The Thursday practice is unusual, as players are normally either off or have a simple walk-thru the day before games.“It’s going to be two-third speed stuff. It’s not going to be (full speed),” Shurmur said. “There’ll be some periods in there that might be full speed, but, again, our players are playing a partial game, and so I still think it’s important to remember we’re in training camp.”What is the goal for the Giants?Shurmur hopes that the practices against another opponent, and in another location, will be a good experience for his team.“I think when we do training camp here, we really don’t change our environment like some years or some teams that go away. So this is a good event for us also to be a team away for a few days,” Shurmur said. “There’s some esprit de corps to that, some bonding, so we’ll take advantage of that and then, again Womens Customized New York Giants Jerseys , it’s new players against a new scheme.”What about the possibility for fights?A nasty brawl broke out on Monday in a joint practice between the New York Jets and Washington Redskins. Shurmur said Monday he wants to avoid those “flare ups.”“We want our guys to be smart, we want our guys to compete, be smart, we want to stay off the ground, we want to eliminate all that chatter and just keep it encouraging. That’s part of being of being a pro is being able to practice not only with your team but with other teams, and so I understand competitive spirit. Those are two teams [the Jets and Redskins] and that’s their experience. We’re going to try to guard against it,” Shurmur said.“We’ll just try to do what we can to make sure we get work and don’t have those flare ups.”How much will Odell Beckham Jr. do?Beckham has looked completely healthy during training camp, but Shurmur held him out of the preseason opener. In fact, the coach said he never intended for Beckham to play in that game. How much will the star wide receiver do in practice vs. the Lions?Shurmur gave a non-answer answer to that question.“I know it’s probably getting old for you to hear my answer, but I’m just going to try to be smart with Odell as he comes back,” Shurmur said. “You see him out here and what he can do in practice, I just want to be smart in all conditions as we lead up to the season.”How do the players feel about the practices?“My experience has always been positive with it, they (the practices) have been very competitive,” said Nate Solder, who participated in these practices a number of times as a member of the New England Patriots. “Usually it’s a very professional atmosphere where guys play hard between the whistles. I think that’s the way you have to keep it, because tensions can rise when you’re that competitive at times. That’s always a good thing as long as guys are doing it in the spirit of competition.”Our practice reportsJeremy Reisman of SB Nation’s Lions website, Pride of Detroit, will be providing us with practice reports on Tuesday and Wednesday.
