The Falcons had a shopping list of players to extend this offseason Keanu Neal Jersey , and even went off that menu to make wide receiver Julio Jones happy.

But so far, they haven’t gotten to defensive tackle Grady Jarrett.

Via聽D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Falcons have generally shelved all negotiations once the season begins. They’ve had a busy offseason, writing a mega-extension for quarterback Matt Ryan and also locking up young safety Ricardo Allen and left tackle Jake Matthews.

Jarrett was also on their wish list, but so far nothing has been done. The 2015 fifth-rounder, who has blossomed into one of the top interior defenders in the NFC, taken it in stride.

鈥淚鈥檓 just going to let that take care of itself Mohamed Sanu Jersey ,鈥?Jarrett said. 鈥淚鈥檓 just going to focus on being the best player that I can be. But at the end of the day, that will work itself out.鈥?/p>

So far it hasn’t, which has Jarrett about to go into his contract year without the security every player wants.

Former NFL quarterback Oliver Luck is leaving his high-ranking position at the NCAA to become commissioner of the XFL, the second edition of professional wrestling mogul Vince McMahon's football league.

McMahon announced the hire Tuesday, four months after unveiling plans to relaunch the XFL, which folded in 2001 after its only season. The new XFL is scheduled to begin in 2020. Luck will start his new job July 1.

He said the XFL presents an opportunity to reimagine football, from how it is played to how it is delivered and consumed by fans.

"Opportunities like this come along very infrequently Jimmy Smith Jersey ," Luck told AP in a phone interview. "You've got Vince, who is a visionary. A well-capitalized effort. A guy who has passion for the game, but realizes that there are others who have lived and breathed the game for decades who he was able to bring on board.

"An incredibly fascinating time in terms of technology that exists to engage fans. All of those combined led me to believe the key ingredients to a successful launch are there to deliver great football, which I think was one of the failings of the original league."

Luck said McMahon assured him the XFL will be a more serious endeavor than the first time around, when the league tried to use some of the WWE's sexed-up, tough-talking antics to spice up second-rate football.

"Vince and others have really looked clear-eyed at the original XFL and acknowledged there wasn't enough focus put on the game itself," Luck said.

Luck Demetrius Harris Jersey , the father of Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, played four seasons for the Houston Oilers after being drafted in the second round out of West Virginia in 1982. He graduated from University of Texas law school in 1987.

Luck went on to a successful career in sports management in the professional and college ranks. He joined the NCAA in 2014 as executive vice president of regulatory affairs and strategic partnerships.

Luck has served as president of the now defunct NFL Europe and was general manager for two of the league's teams in Germany. He was later president and general manager of the Houston Dynamo, leading the franchise to two MLS Cup titles. Before joining the NCAA, he spent four years as athletic director of West Virginia, orchestrating the school's move to the Big 12.

"Oliver and I share the same vision and passion for reimagining the game of football," McMahon said in a statement. "His experience as both an athlete and executive will ensure the long-term success of the XFL."

At the NCAA, Luck oversaw all NCAA enforcement Dave Robinson Jersey , academic and membership affairs and athlete eligibility.

"Oliver Luck has been a key member of my leadership team and he has done a superb job at the NCAA over the last three years," NCAA President Mark Emmert said in a statement. "His vision and insight have been invaluable to our schools and the national office. Oliver's values and leadership skills helped keep the Association focused on supporting student-athletes."

The XFL plans to have eight league-owned teams, 40-man rosters and a 10-week regular season during the NFL's offseason. Host cities and stadiums are now being sought by the league through requests for proposals.

OAKLAND Chris Godwin Jersey , Calif. — Having dipped into the minor leagues for four new players Friday, the Los Angeles Angels plan to do so again Saturday for their starting pitcher when they go for a second straight win against the Oakland Athletics.

The Angels are planning to promote left-hander John Lamb for his first major-league start since 2016, matching him against A’s lefty Sean Manaea (5-6, 3.49 ERA).

Los Angeles placed four players — third baseman Zack Cozart and right-handers Garrett Richards, Nick Tropeano and Jim Johnson — on the disabled list Friday, replacing them with bullpen reinforcements in right-handers Felix Pena, Eduardo Paredes T.J. Ward Jersey , Jake Jewell and Akeel Morris.

None saw action in Friday’s 8-4 win over Oakland, with left-hander Tyler Skaggs throwing seven strong innings before Cam Bedrosian and Justin Anderson mopped up.

Catcher Jose Briceno, himself a May call-up from the minors, contributed to the Los Angeles offensive attack in the series opener with a double, two singles and an RBI.

“Nobody is going to feel sorry for you,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said of a roster that now features 15 players on the DL. “We feel we have the guys who can contribute and keep us going. If we can pitch and have our bullpen hold leads, then we’re going to be fine.”

Lamb has battled back issues in the minors since he last threw a big-league pitch for the Cincinnati Reds on July 16 Reggie Nelson Jersey , 2016. He went 2-12 with a 6.17 ERA in 24 starts for the Reds in two seasons.

One of those starts was in Cincinnati against the A’s in 2016, a game in which he gave up two home runs, including one by Marcus Semien, in a 6-1 loss. He is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in his career against Oakland based solely on that one appearance.

The A’s had to make an 11th-hour pitching change of their own, starting Manaea in place of Daniel Gossett, who strained his right forearm in his last start.

Manaea hasn’t won since May 14 but pitched well in both of his previous June starts, allowing a total of four runs in 12 2/3 innings.

He matched up with Skaggs Daryl Worley Jersey , Friday’s winner for the Angels, in the second game of the season back in March, allowing one run in 7 2/3 innings in a 2-1 Oakland loss.

Mike Trout accounted for the only run the Angels scored off Manaea that night with a home run.

Manaea is 1-3 with a 4.30 ERA in seven career starts against the Angels.

Trout’s homer in March was the third of his career against Manaea in just 14 at-bats. He has three other hits, including a triple, among those head-to-heads.

Trout had three hits, all singles, in Friday’s win.

The A’s likely will counter the Angels’ roster move Saturday with one of their own Kentavius Street Jersey , with third baseman Matt Chapman expected to be placed on the DL with a bruised hand.

Chapman had a 149-game streak of consecutive games played snapped with his absence Friday.

He was replaced at third base in the series opener by Chad Pinder, whose second-inning throwing error led to two unearned runs — two of four the A’s generously gifted the short-handed Angels in the game.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have exercised the fifth-year option on outside linebacker Bud Dupree.

The Steelers made the announcement on Monday, three days before the start of the draft. The move will keep the 24-year-old Dupree under contract for the 2019 season.

Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert says, "We're excited about where Bud can be in these next two years and we had no hesitation in making that move when we did it."

Pittsburgh selected Dupree with the 22nd overall pick in the 2015 draft. Dupree has increased his sack total in each of his three seasons, going from 4 in 2015 to 4.5 in 2016 to 6 in 2017 as part of a defense that set a franchise record and led the NFL with 56 sacks last season.

The decision to pick up Dupree's option will likely have a minimal impact on Pittsburgh's draft plans. The Steelers need help at inside linebacker, with Pro Bowler Ryan Shazier ruled out for the 2018 season while recovering from spinal stabilization surgery.

The Browns signed free agent cornerback E.J. Gaines Kentavius Street Jersey , the latest addition to a revamped secondary.

Gaines played last season for the Buffalo Bills. The 26-year-old will be reunited in Cleveland with Browns defensive coordinator Gregg Williams as the two previously worked together with the Los Angeles Rams.

The 26-year-old Gaines, who also met with the New York Jets Tedy Bruschi Jersey , will bring speed and depth to the Browns.

New general manager John Dorsey has been busy overhauling Cleveland's defensive backfield. He also traded for cornerback Damarious Randall, signed free agents T.J. Carrie and Terrance Mitchell and dealt cornerback Jason McCourty to New England.

Gaines has started 26 of 37 regular-season games in the NFL Carl Davis Jersey , recording 185 tackles and three interceptions. Last year, the Rams traded him and a second-round draft pick to Buffalo for wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

Gaines started 11 regular-season games last season Keanu Neal Jersey , but missed five with knee and shoulder injuries. He sat out the 2015 season with a foot injury.

Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jurrell Casey says he plans to protest during the national anthem this season, even if it means getting a fine.

Casey tells CNN that ”I’m going to take a fine this year Deion Sanders Jersey , why not? I’m going to protest during the flag. That’s what I’m going to say now.”

Titans officials had no immediate response.

The NFL approved a policy in May allowing players to protest during the national anthem by staying in the locker room but forbidding them from sitting or taking a knee if they’re on the field.

The NFL Players Association has filed a grievance with the league to challenge the policy.

Casey raised a fist at the end of the national anthem before games last season.

Membership in the group that calls itself the @PFTPMPosse carries with it an important obligation. Via the questions posed for every episode of the #PFTPM podcast Johnny Townsend Jersey , the ever-growing group of loyal supporters introduces concepts and ideas that probably wouldn’t have otherwise entered my relaxed brain.

Here’s a great question that emerged in the aftermath of the Supreme Court decision to allow legalized sports wagering in the 49 states that don’t have it: If Patriots coach Bill Belichick had planned to bench starting cornerback Malcolm Butler for the entirety of a Super Bowl (with the exception of one special-teams play) in an environment with widespread legal gambling, would Belichick have been able to keep that to himself?

The people who legally (in Nevada) and illegally (everywhere else) bet on the Patriots to cover in Super Bowl LII surely were miffed and perplexed that Butler didn’t play. If hundreds of millions of dollars legally had been bet on the Patriots and Belichick had made such an unexpected move for reasons that he chose (as he always does) to keep to himself, the reaction may have been far different.

This is just one of the many issues that NFL will have to consider as it braces for the unintended consequences of something that, on the surface, will result in much greater revenue for the sport. And it will be important for the league to anticipate the many unintended consequences and plan for them.

Given the Butler case Shareece Wright Jersey , the NFL may need to demand a greater degree of transparency not just as to injuries (where there’s currently a very limited degree of transparency, thanks to the bare-bones injury reports) but also as to strategic departures from the reasonably expected status quo. Teams eventually may have to publish binding depth charts within, say, 48 hours before kickoff. Other than players listed as questionable or worse on the injury report, the starters as listed on the official depth chart would then be starting the next game.

But that would have unintended consequences Dave Robinson Jersey , too, with coaches easily avoiding the spirit of the rule by listing a player as a starter — and then benching him after as little as only one play. So then the question would become whether the players listed as starters would be required to participate in a certain number of snaps barring injury or gross ineffectiveness. Which then would open the door for teams to claim a player was injured and/or grossly ineffective when perhaps he actually wasn’t.

It could quickly become an effort to juggle Jello for the league, with coaches who strive for maximum secrecy (and who already resent having to make basic disclosures about injuries) doing anything they can to find a way to comply with efforts to prevent another Butler debacle while keeping the flexibility to do whatever they want to do without explaining themselves to anyone. But the NFL will have a good reason to come up with something that works, and to compel the coaches to go along with it.

The unspoken nightmare scenario for the league office continues to be the creation of an independent agency charged with overseeing professional football. If enough gambling controversies emerge, whether due to corruption Adarius Glanton Jersey , incompetence, or an awkward intersection between coaches who want to win football games and gamblers who want to win money, the NFL may lose its stubborn insistence to handle its own business.

And if it seems far fetched to think that government would get involved in something like this, consider the overall purpose and mission of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Marrone has some tips on how to beat the New England Patriots.

Marrone received a folder Thursday filled with notes from first-graders at The Bolles School in Jacksonville.

The folder read, ”Dear Jags Kareem Hunt Jersey , Want to beat the Patriots? Here’s how: Advice from your (hash)1 fans in Bolles First Grade.”

Marrone held it up during his news conference and said, ”I’ve got to get through this. This is from the Bolles first grade and this has the answers that maybe I’m looking for, maybe how we can stop the Patriots.”

He later added, ”We’re just taking as much advice as we can because we need it.”

The five-time Super Bowl champion Patriots (14-3) will host the Jaguars (12-6) in the AFC championship game Sunday.

Marrone jokes that it’s ”hard to believe how so many people have an opinion on how to beat the New England Patriots and no one’s really done that.”

Cornerback Justin Coleman is remaining with the Seattle Seahawks after signing his restricted free agent tender with the club.

Coleman was a breakout performer for the Seahawks in 2017 after being acquired from New England in exchange for a seventh-round pick just before the start of the season. Coleman signed a second-round tender on Wednesday that is expected to pay him $2.9 million for the 2018 season. Coleman could have signed an offer sheet with another team but Seattle would have the option to match. With the departure of Richard Sherman and Seattle not expected to bring back Jeremy Lane Ted Ginn Jr Jersey , Coleman could have an even more prominent role in 2018.

Coleman became Seattle's primary nickel cornerback, a role that has grown in importance. He finished last season with 35 tackles, nine passes defensed and two interceptions, both of which he returned for touchdowns.

It was the closest thing to a perfect scenario for the Red Sox: Eduardo Rodriguez on the mound against the lowly Baltimore Orioles.

Home runs by Rafael Devers and Andrew Benintendi helped Rodriguez win his fifth straight start, and Boston extended Baltimore’s losing streak to six games with a 6-4 victory Tuesday night.

Rodriguez (8-1) gave up two runs and eight hits over 5 2/3 innings to increase a career-best run of success that began on May 20 against the Orioles. Rodriguez is 3-0 this season against Baltimore, the team that gave the left-hander his first professional contract in 2010 and traded him to Boston in 2014.

”Eduardo was good. The next step for him is to go deeper into the game and keep that pitch count down,” manager Alex Cora said.

It took Rodriguez 109 pitches to get 17 outs, but he left with a 6-2 lead.

”I’m throwing the ball good and I want to keep on doing it Geronimo Allison Jersey ,” Rodriguez said. ”The more wins you get, the closer you get to the playoffs.”

No team in the big leagues has more wins than Boston (46). The Red Sox are 12-1 in Rodriguez’s starts, including 5-0 on the road, and 8-1 overall against Baltimore.

Devers hit a two-run drive in the second inning and Benintendi connected in the third for a 3-1 lead. A bases-loaded walk and a run-scoring balk made it 5-2 in the fourth, and Boston coasted from there.

Joey Rickard homered for the Orioles, who own the worst record in the big leagues (19-47) and have endured six losing streaks of at least five games.

Before Mark Trumbo doubled in two runs in the ninth, Baltimore was 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position. And despite that hit, the Orioles are 3 for 48 in that situation during their current skid.

Rookie pitcher David Hess (2-3) stumbled in his sixth big league start Alex Collins Jersey , allowing five runs, five hits and a career-high four walks in 3 1/3 innings.

”At the end of the day, if I execute some pitches a little bit better I think the results are different,” Hess said. ”But that’s a good lineup. You’ve got to be at your best going out there and tonight I wasn’t.”

Baltimore reliever Zach Britton made his season debut, six months after undergoing surgery for a ruptured right Achilles tendon. The lefty pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

”It almost felt like my debut, like an out-of-body experience,” Britton said. ”It was weird.”

Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs is heading into the fourth and final year of his rookie contract Otis Sistrunk Jersey , but he’s not sweating it.

Diggs said this morning on PFT Live that if his agents and the Vikings work out an extension, that’s fine, but it’s not his focus.

“This is a business and there’s a lot going on,” Diggs said. “Being a small portion of it I’m definitely sitting back just working every day and letting that stuff handle itself. I have people who will handle that. For me, it’s just coming in and working every day. It’s not about any contract or anything like that, I’m trying to win. That’s all I’m concerned about.”

Diggs said he’ll only take two days off after the Vikings’ minicamp before jumping back into his own training regimen before the Vikings’ training camp opens on July 27. He’s focused on getting better Gareon Conley Jersey , and his contract will come whenever it comes.

The San Francisco 49ers started free agency Wednesday by getting some needed help for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, agreeing to a four-year contract with versatile running back Jerick McKinnon and a five-year deal with interior offensive lineman Weston Richburg just after the start of the new league year.

The two deals fill holes on the roster with McKinnon expected to replace departing starter Carlos Hyde and Richburg able to step in immediately as the starter either at center or guard.

The team also agreed to a three-year deal to keep linebacker Brock Coyle, who started 10 games last season before undergoing offseason shoulder surgery.

General manager John Lynch said McKinnon and Richburg were both high on the team's priority list in free agency and he was glad to be able to lock both of them up as soon as the new league year started.

"We see Weston as one of the top young interior offensive linemen in the NFL," Lynch said. "His athleticism, intelligence and attitude are a perfect fit for our scheme. Jerick has proven to be an extremely versatile football player whose speed, elusiveness and tackle-breaking ability make him a very difficult matchup for defenses. We can't wait to get them on the field with their teammates and coaches later this spring."

McKinnon spent four years in Minnesota Jameis Winston Jersey , mostly as a backup, after being drafted in the third round in 2014 out of Georgia Southern. He has rushed for 1,918 yards with an average of 4.0 yards per carry, has 142 catches for 984 yards, and has scored 12 touchdowns.

McKinnon had his most productive season last year, when he ran for a career-high 570 yards while setting personal bests with 51 catches for 421 yards.

McKinnon replaces Carlos Hyde Mike Williams Jersey , who is leaving as a free agent for Cleveland. McKinnon has more speed and is a better receiving threat than Hyde and should fit well into coach Kyle Shanahan's offense.

Richburg spent the past four seasons with the New York Giants but played only four games last year because of a concussion. He began his career as a left guard before moving to center in 2015. He played there the past three seasons and is considered one of the top pass-blocking players at the position and has the athleticism to thrive in Shanahan's zone-running scheme.

Coyle had 62 tackles last season in his first year with the 49ers.

"He's a selfless guy that does everything the right way," Shanahan said. "We've always known Brock to be a guy we can count on and it was great to see him play the way he did when given the opportunity."

The 49ers had previously re-signed starting center Daniel Kilgore to a three-year contract last month but Kilgore also has experience at guard and could be asked to move.

It's been a busy offseason already for San Francisco. The Niners signed Garoppolo to a five-year deal last month before he even hit free agency, signed cornerback Richard Sherman after he was cut by Seattle, re-signed defensive lineman Cassius Marsh and offensive lineman Garry Gilliam and gave an extension to receiver Marquise Goodwin.

These moves have addressed many of the team's most glaring needs although San Francisco still could be in the market for another cornerback, a pass rusher, help at linebacker and a big receiving target.

After losing their first nine games last year Marshon Lattimore Jersey , the 49ers underwent a remarkable turnaround. They went 5-0 after Garoppolo took over as starting quarterback and finished the year with a 6-10 mark and plenty of optimism they hope to carry over into 2018.

New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman has lymphoma and will soon begin treatment Al Davis Jersey , and he said he is encouraged by the prognosis.

Before joining the Panthers in 2013, Gettleman was a Giants personnel executive for 15 years. He was on the staff when the team won Super Bowls for the 2007 and 2011 seasons – two of the seven Super Bowls in which Gettleman has been a part in his 30-year NFL career.

In his four seasons as Carolina’s general manager, the Panthers won 40 games and three NFC South titles. They lost in the 50th Super Bowl to Denver after finishing 15-1 Mike Gillislee Jersey , the best record in the league. For 2015, Gettleman was voted The Sporting News’ NFL Executive of the Year.

At the end of his statement in which he also thanked Giants owners John Mara and Steve Tisch for their support and encouragement, Gettleman added: ”I look forward to being back at full strength and devoting all my energy to helping make this 2018 New York Giants team the best it can be.”

Assistant general manager Kevin Abrams is likely to assume some of Gettleman’s duties while the GM is undergoing treatments.

TORONTO — The Detroit Tigers will start a former Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Saturday afternoon for the second game in a row in another attempt to end a losing streak that has reached 10 games.

Former Blue Jays left-hander Francisco Liriano could not do the job Friday night — allowing three runs in six innings — as the Blue Jays defeated the Tigers 3-2 in the opener of a four-game series at the Rogers Centre.

This time, the former Blue Jay is Matt Boyd (4-6, 4.15 ERA), who will face Toronto right-hander Sam Gaviglio (2-2, 3.98) in the second game of the series.

The Tigers (36-47) Jerry Rice Jersey , who are 13-26 on the road, have lost 10 games in a row for the first time since Sept. 13-22, 2003, the season in which they lost 119 games.

Boyd took the loss Sunday at Cleveland when he allowed six runs, eight hits and two walks while striking out five in three innings.

The start Saturday will be his 16th of the season.

In four career starts against the Blue Jays, Boyd is 0-1 with a 4.24 ERA. He did not factor in the decision June 2 against Toronto at Comerica Park when he gave up four runs, six hits and two walks in seven innings. He struck out three.

Boyd, who was sent to the Tigers July 30, 2015, as part of the trade that sent David Price to the Blue Jays, is 0-3 with an 8.66 ERA in four career starts at the Rogers Centre.

Gaviglio will be making his 10th appearance and eighth start of the season.

In his past three starts, he is 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA and has pitched only 12 innings.

He has faced the Tigers once in his career Tedy Bruschi Jersey , allowing two runs in five innings in a no decision.

The Tigers have been outscored 64-26 during their losing streak.

Before the game Friday, the Blue Jays selected the contract of utility player Darnell Sweeney from Triple-A Buffalo. He was batting .232 with six homers and 21 RBIs in 47 games. He has played all infield positions except first base, both corner outfield positions and also pitched a scoreless inning.

Sweeney takes the roster spot of outfielder Steve Pearce, who was traded Thursday night to the Boston Red Sox for shortstop Santiago Espinal, who will play at Class A Dunedin.

Moving Pearce means that Kendrys Morales will again see regular use as the designated hitter and breaks up a logjam in the outfield. The Blue Jays return to four outfielders with Teoscar Hernandez, Randal Grichuk, Kevin Pillar and Curtis Granderson.

Espinal, 23, batted .313 with seven homers and 32 RBIs in 65 games with Class A Salem in the Red Sox organization.

“Middle-of-the-diamond players, you can’t have enough of them Jack Tatum Jersey ,” Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said Friday. “The athleticism, that’s where it all begins. If you can play in the middle, you can often play anywhere else, so that’s first and foremost. (Espinal) is an above-average runner and performing well at a decent level, so there’s plenty to like.”

Former Colts punter Pat McAfee says former General Manager Ryan Grigson fining him for an Instagram post was the last straw that led him to retire from the NFL.

McAfee says that late in the 2016 season Jonathan Ogden Jersey , Grigson hauled him into his office with a printout of an Instagram picture McAfee had posted of himself in the Colts’ facilities. McAfee sees nothing wrong with the picture, but Grigson was furious about it.

“He has the picture on a piece of paper, slams it on the desk, pushes it across the desk to me and I look at it,” McAfee said on his podcast, via the Indianapolis Star. “At this moment in my head, I鈥檝e already said 鈥榌expletive] it鈥?to this guy. I look at the photo and look up at him. It鈥檚 like a moment of silence. . . . He pulls out my contract, opens it up, goes to a clause. 鈥楽ince this isn鈥檛 your first offense Bo Jackson Jersey , I can fine you a game check for this.鈥?You only get 17 game checks in your entire salary, so if you want to look up what that was, it was $100,000 almost. I said, 鈥楩or what?鈥?He said, 鈥業s that a football room?鈥?I said, 鈥榃ell the title is an equipment room. There鈥檚 footballs in there I guess.鈥?He goes, 鈥榃hy do you have to be such a smartass? I can fine you anything I want. This is why we鈥檙e losing.鈥?This is why we lost to the Steelers, he tells me.”

McAfee said he told Grigson that the Colts’ losses were Grigson’s fault for failing to build an offensive line that could protect Andrew Luck.

“He goes Kenneth Acker Jersey , 鈥榃hat did you just say to me?鈥?I go, 鈥極h yeah, I鈥檓 the best in the game at what I do. I wish you would do the same.’ This is a moment he did not expect. He goes, 鈥榊ou鈥檙e going to walk into my office and disrespect me?鈥?I go, 鈥榊ou called me in here.鈥?He said, 鈥業鈥檓 going to fine you a whole game check.鈥?I said, 鈥楥ool bro,鈥?and literally walked out of his office. As I walk out, he gives me the Tavon Young Jersey , 鈥楪et out of my office.鈥?I go, 鈥楢lready walking out,鈥?#8221; McAfee said.

With that, McAfee decided he no longer wanted to play for the Colts. Grigson was fired after that season as well.

The Packers gave themselves some cover yesterday, when they signed a functional starting-caliber right tackle.

Which makes it reasonable to wonder whether they’re convinced their incumbent right tackle is going to be ready to start the season.

Via Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press Gazette, yesterday’s signing of former Panthers-Titans-Cowboys lineman Byron Bell could be a sign of some concern about Bulaga’s timeline.

The veteran tackle tore his ACL in November, and if they don’t think he’s going to be ready for the start of the regular season, the physically unable to perform list could be a possibility.

Bulaga’s roster spot was considered tenuous at varying points in the offseason, after he refused a pay cut. But the Packers insisted that he was part of the plan.

They also have Jason Spriggs Jermon Bushrod Jersey , Kyle Murphy and Adam Pankey as options, but bringing in a guy with Bell’s experience (74 starts), could suggest some concern about Bulaga’s status.聽Spriggs (dislocated left kneecap) and Murphy (foot surgery) are coming back from significant injuries of their own, though they worked at OTAs.

The Packers created the roster spot for Bell by聽releasing undrafted rookie lineman Jacob Alsadek.
