NEW YORK (AP) Teddy Bridgewater is getting a fresh start in a new place that suddenly has a crowded quarterbacks room – and could be adding another signal caller soon.

The New York Jets signed the former Minnesota Vikings star to a one-year contract Frostee Rucker Jersey , making the deal official Sunday.

Bridgewater’s signing comes a day after the Jets traded up to acquire the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL draft from the Colts – likely with the intention of assuring themselves of getting one of the top available quarterbacks. New York dealt its first-rounder – No. 6 overall – along with two second-rounders and next year’s second-rounder for Indianapolis‘ top pick this year.

Article continues below ...

The Jets have re-signed Josh McCown , who will likely head into the offseason programs as the starting quarterback, but both he and Bridgewater are on one-year deals.

So, the focus next month in the draft will be on finding the future of the franchise. New York also has Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg on the roster, along with Joel Stave, but none appear to be viable candidates for the starting job – and their roster spots could be in serious jeopardy.

On a busy Sunday, New York also announced the signings of former Titans linebacker Avery Williamson and former Redskins center Spencer Long, along with the re-signings of cornerback Morris Claiborne Jared Veldheer Jersey , defensive lineman Mike Pennel and safety Terrence Brooks.

The 25-year-old Bridgewater could give McCown – and presumably whomever New York takes in the draft – a run in training camp if completely healthy. He’s still looking to return from a serious knee injury in August 2016 that sidelined him for most of the past two years. He threw just two passes last season for the Vikings, including one that was intercepted.

”I’m excited about the direction we’re headed in,” Bridgewater told the Jets’ website. ”I’m excited to be a part of something that can be very special and I just look forward to getting to work with the guys and a great year.”

Bridgewater was a first-round pick in 2014 out of Louisville and was largely considered a rising star at his position. He made the Pro Bowl after his second NFL season, but his career was thrust into uncertainty when he suffered a serious non-contact knee injury during a team practice the following summer. Bridgewater tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and dislocated the knee joint, along with other structural damage.

For his career, Bridgewater has thrown for 6,150 yards and 28 touchdowns with 22 interceptions and a 64.7 percent completion rate. He has also run for four touchdowns. Financial details were not immediately released, but it is believed to be worth $6 million – not including additional incentives.

The 26-year-old Williamson spent his first four NFL seasons with Tennessee and led the Titans in tackles in two of those years. He’ll be the replacement at inside linebacker for 29-year-old Demario Davis Tyvon Branch Jersey , who led the Jets in tackles last year with a career season but signed with New Orleans as a free agent after he said New York never offered him a deal.

Instead, the Jets went with the younger Williamson, who has 11 sacks and 377 tackles with two interceptions and three forced fumbles. He was given a three-year, $22.5 million deal and will combine with Darron Lee to man the middle of New York’s linebacker group.

Williamson was a fifth-round pick out of Kentucky in 2014. He became a starter for the Titans early in his rookie season and was a consistent playmaker during his four years with the team.

”I know the defense,” Williamson told the team’s website of the Jets’ 3-4 defensive alignment. ”They have great guys up here that can play. This defense is hungry. You have young guys on it who are talented and I feel like I’m going to fit right in. I just have to get in and learn the playbook and get to work.”

The Jets also addressed one of their other major needs by signing Long to a four-year deal worth $28 million.

Wesley Johnson was the starting center last season as the replacement for Nick Mangold, but struggled at times and is now a free agent. Long was a third-round draft pick out of Nebraska in 2014 and played both center and guard for the Redskins. He became Washington’s starter at center early in the 2016 season after a season-ending injury to Kory Lichtensteiger.

”It took a lot of adjustment physically and mentally,” Long said. ”It’s definitely different having the ball in your hands. In the meeting rooms is where the big changes came because I grew so much mentally as a player when I had to learn the center position. Ever since then, I’ve been able to build on a solid foundation. I’m excited. I think my best ball is yet to come at that position.”

The 27-year-old Long was limited to just seven games last season J. J. Nelson Jersey , though, as he dealt with injuries to both legs and needed surgery on his quadriceps tendon.

Claiborne rejoins the Jets on a one-year deal worth $7 million, including a $3 million signing bonus. He was the team’s top cornerback last season, but will now combine with Trumaine Johnson, who signed a five-year, $72.5 million deal earlier this week, to form one of the NFL’s most promising secondaries.

Pennel, back on a three-year deal worth $12 million A.Q. Shipley Jersey , was a key backup for Todd Bowles’ defense last season. He had a career-high 35 tackles in 16 games.

Brooks, who saw lots of playing time at safety and on special teams, was the AFC Defensive Player of the Week after Week 3 with two interceptions against Miami. He signed a two-year contract.

JACKSONVILLE Eric Wood Jersey , Fla. (AP) The Jacksonville Jaguars have activated rookie receiver Dede Westbrook and safety Calvin Pryor from injured reserve and promoted Larry Pinkard from the practice squad.

To make room on the 53-man roster Saturday, the Jaguars (6-3) waived defensive tackle Sheldon Day and receiver Jaelen Strong and placed receiver Arrelious Benn (knee) on injured reserve.

Westbrook Colton Schmidt Jersey , a fourth-round draft pick from Oklahoma and the 2016 Biletnikoff Award winner, missed the first nine games following core muscle surgery in early September. He will make his NFL debut at Cleveland on Sunday and should see significant playing time since starter Allen Hurns (ankle) is out.

Pryor Cordy Glenn Jersey , a first-round draft pick by the New York Jets in 2014, has appeared in 44 career games. He has 191 tackles and two interceptions in three seasons.

Pinkard spent time with Green Bay and Oakland before signing with Jacksonville in April. He has yet to play in an NFL game.

ARLINGTON Graham Gano Jersey , Texas (AP) Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has been traded – from the Texas Rangers to the New York Yankees.

The MLB’s Rangers selected Wilson in the Triple-A portion of the Rule 5 draft during the winter meetings in December 2013, about two months before he led the Seahawks to a win over Denver in the Super Bowl.

On Wednesday, Texas traded Wilson to the Yankees for future considerations.

Article continues below ...

Wilson spent a day in uniform with the Rangers at spring training in Surprise, Arizona, in 2014 without appearing in a game Charles Johnson Jersey , and made another cameo appearance at camp the following spring. An infielder, Wilson hit .229 in two seasons in the low minor leagues in Colorado’s system in 2010-11.

The 29-year-old Wilson is expected to be in the Yankees major league camp in March, where he will participate in pregame workouts and watch games from the Yankees dugout while in Florida. He will be assigned to the Double-A Trenton roster.

”We’ve admired Russell’s career from afar for quite some time,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said.

”This is a unique opportunity for us to learn from an extraordinary athlete who has reached the pinnacle of his profession. After talking to a number of our players, there is a genuine excitement in having Russell join us for a short time in camp.”

Wilson issued a statement thanking the Rangers for giving him the chance to experience professional baseball again.

”Growing up taking grounders Andrew Norwell Jersey , hitting BP, and throwing deep post routes early in the mornings with my dad and brother is where my love of sports came from, and those memories stick with me every morning I wake up,” Wilson said.

”I remember how excited I was when Texas selected me in the Rule 5 Draft in December 2013. During my two springs in Arizona with the Rangers, I was reminded just how much I love the game of baseball.”

A two-sport athlete in college Daryl Williams Jersey , Wilson graduated from North Carolina State University in 2010. In 2011, he left the Rockies organization for football to be a graduate transfer at Wisconsin, leading to the Badgers to a share of the Big Ten title and a Rose Bowl appearance before the Seahawks took him in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft.

”While football is my passion and my livelihood, baseball remains a huge part of where I came from and who I am today,” Wilson said.

”I’ve learned so much on the baseball field that translates to my game physically and mentally playing quarterback in the NFL. … While I embrace the chance to be a New York Yankee Mario Addison Jersey , I will forever be grateful to have been a part of a world class organization like the Texas Rangers.”

FOXBOROUGH Nick Boyle Jersey , Mass. (AP) Chargers punt returner Travis Benjamin fielded the punt at his 11, running to his right to get to the ball just a step from the sideline.

Then he muffed it.

Picking up his fumble at the 8, he circled back toward the end zone in an attempt to make something out of the play. With three members of the New England coverage team closing in, he skidded to a stop just in front of the goal line.

Article continues below ...

And then he managed to make things even worse: Benjamin stutter-stepped backward into the end zone to avoid New England’s Brandon King, who was diving at his feet. The Chargers returner was quickly brought down for a safety that gave the Patriots a 9-7 lead and sent them on their way to a fourth straight victory. (There was also a holding penalty on the play against the Chargers, which was summarily declined.)

”Last week Terrance West Jersey , he made a play on a punt return to help us win the game. This week he made a bad decision,” coach Anthony Lynn said. ”That was a huge play in the game. You have to have some awareness of where you are on the football field. And he did not.”

The Chargers were toyed with by Tom Brady – at least until he got in field-goal range – and squelched by New England’s previously porous defense. But the Patriots’ almost-comical domination on special teams turned what could have been a routine victory by the defending Super Bowl champions into a slapstick farce.

In addition to the safety on a punt return, the Chargers also missed a field goal, gave up a 71-yard kickoff return to Dion Lewis and botched a series of kickoff returns that repeatedly left them inside their 20. Midway through the fourth quarter, after Los Angeles cut the deficit to five points and forced a punt, the Chargers committed two penalties on the return and got backed up from the 18-yard line to their 9.

”We knew coming in here that we couldn’t give that team anything Mike Wallace Jersey ,” Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said. ”They are too good of a football team.”

But the turning point was Benjamin’s safety, which also gave the Patriots a short field. Starting at their 43, they moved into position for Stephen Gostkowski’s 25-yard field goal.

”Here we are punting the ball, giving the ball back to them, and at the end of the play, we’ve got 2 points Eric Weddle Jersey , and we’re getting the ball back,” New England special teamer Matthew Slater said. ”I think the guys were really feeding off the plays that a lot of us were making in the kicking game and that’s huge for us.”

Benjamin wasn’t the only problem for the Chargers – not by a long shot. Phillip Rivers managed just 192 passing yards – 51 on the failed final drive – against a defense that had been ranked last in the NFL. The L.A. defense was better, but forced just one three-and-out while allowing five drives of 10 plays or more.

Lynn said he used cornerback Michael Davis along with running back Austin Ekeler on kickoffs because previous returners hadn’t produced much. But that left the Chargers pinned inside their 25 four times.

”We were off our flow,” Ekeler said. ”We weren’t as coordinated as well as we were last week, so we just started taking a knee in the end zone and taking the secure route. It wasn’t acceptable.”

Asked if he still had faith in Benjamin returning punts, Lynn noted that the receiver caught a 24-yard touchdown pass and had another score called back because of an illegal pick penalty. In last week’s victory over the Broncos – their third in a row – Benjamin pulled down a 42-yard TD catch and ran back a punt 65 yards for a score.

”It’s one of those things where no one played a perfect game Matt Judon Jersey ,” Rivers said. ”He’s going to tell you that you made a bad decision, and you move on and live with it. I made some myself today. … We all had our share of mistakes, we just had too many to overcome.”

CINCINNATI (AP) Coach Marvin Lewis got a two-year contract extension Tuesday Frostee Rucker Jersey , providing more chances to try to get the Cincinnati Bengals that playoff victory that has eluded him for 15 seasons.

The agreement came after a second straight losing season and two days of discussions with owner Mike Brown. Lewis has the second-longest active coaching tenure in the NFL, behind Bill Belichick’s 18 seasons with New England.

Unlike Belichick, who has won five Super Bowls and made two other appearances in the title game, Lewis is 0-7 in the playoffs, the worst coaching record in NFL history. The Bengals haven’t won a playoff game since the 1990 season, the sixth-longest streak of futility in league history.

Article continues below ...

Paul Brown Stadium was half-empty for the final home game Jared Veldheer Jersey , an indication fans had given up on the team and were hoping for change.

Instead, Brown decided to stay the course and keep Lewis, who wanted more say over the coaching staff and the roster if he stayed.

Brown’s aversion to change won out.

”Marvin has made significant contributions during his time here,” Brown said in a statement.

Lewis planned to meet the media on Wednesday. He said in a statement that he was committed ”to making the necessary improvements to put this team in the best position to win.”

Lewis has acknowledged that he would have been fired in any other NFL city. Instead, he’s gotten second and third chances – and now a 16th chance – to lead the Bengals to a postseason win. Brown, an owner who values loyalty Tyvon Branch Jersey , has decided to keep Lewis around.

It marks a stay-the-course coaching offseason for both of Ohio’s teams. The Browns are keeping coach Hue Jackson after they became only the second team in NFL history to go 0-16.

On Monday, Lewis said he was interested in staying only if he and ownership had a common vision for changes that needed to happen. He said the organization needs to do a better job building a roster that can contend for an AFC North title.

Lewis has by far the longest coaching tenure in team history – founder Paul Brown and Sam Wyche are tied for second at eight years – and a 125-119-3 record, including that 0-7 playoff mark.

Under Lewis, the Bengals have had some of their best regular seasons and some of the worst playoff moments.

The mastermind of Baltimore’s Super Bowl championship defense in 2000, Lewis came to Cincinnati before the 2003 season – a rare outside hire by the Brown family. Lewis turned the Bengals into a competitive team and then a playoff team after years of languishing as a laughingstock.

He hasn’t been able to win a playoff game, though. His best chance came in 2015 J. J. Nelson Jersey , when the Bengals matched the franchise record with 12 wins and were in control in the final minutes of a playoff game against rival Pittsburgh at Paul Brown Stadium.

Lewis’ team unraveled, fumbling to give Pittsburgh a final chance and then committing two unthinkable penalties – Vontaze Burfict and Adam ”Pacman” Jones got 15-yard fouls – that set up the Steelers’ field goal for an 18-16 win. It was one of the worst meltdowns in NFL playoff history.

At yet, Lewis survived it. His team never recovered. The Bengals won only six games last season. When Lewis and Brown met afterward, they couldn’t agree on terms of an extension of his deal that ended after the 2017 season.

A 23-20 Monday night loss to Pittsburgh on Dec. 4 essentially ended the Bengals’ chances. Paul Brown Stadium was less than half-full for the final home game, a 26-17 victory over the Lions on Dec. 24. In the final game at Baltimore, the Bengals rallied for a 31-27 win that eliminated the Ravens.

The Bengals now have to sell tickets by convincing fans that things are changing A.Q. Shipley Jersey , even if the head coach is the same.

KANSAS CITY Graham Gano Jersey , Mo. (AP) The final pass Alex Smith threw this season was an incompletion over the middle on fourth down, one that would have given the Kansas City Chiefs a chance to kick a winning field goal had he completed it.

It may ultimately be his final pass with the Chiefs, too.

Smith is under contract next season, but the cash-strapped Chiefs are expected to trade or release the veteran quarterback and turn the franchise over to first-round pick Patrick Mahomes II. And if that is the case, Smith’s career in Kansas City will be summed up by that errant throw over the middle.

Article continues below ...

He was good enough to lead the Chiefs to the playoffs.

He wasn’t good enough to lead them much farther.

”I’ll get into all that in the next couple of weeks,” said Smith, who did say that he wants to remain with Kansas City, but ultimately knows the decision is out of his hands.

”I’m under contract for another year Charles Johnson Jersey ,” he said. ”Like I said, I’m not thinking about anything else. Right now, I’m obviously disappointed. Like I said, I felt like we had a good chance. It’s gone. It’s over.”

As the Chiefs head into the offseason after a 22-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Saturday, a game in which they blew a 21-3 halftime lead, the biggest question mark becomes their quarterback situation.

Smith certainly made it a tougher decision than most had expected.

He threw for more than 4,000 yards for the first time, and he had 26 touchdown passes with just five interceptions during the regular season. He led the Chiefs to back-to-back AFC West titles for the first time in franchise history Andrew Norwell Jersey , made the playoffs for the fourth time in five seasons and set all kinds of club records along the way, including pass attempts and postseason touchdown passes.

Reid has professed his admiration for Smith countless times over the years, and he was in favor of the trade that brought him to Kansas City from San Francisco. But the coach is also aware that the NFL is a business, and sometimes finances dictate difficult decisions.

”I can’t get into all that right now,” Reid said. ”I don’t know. We’ve got to go back and go through all of that. It’s a long process and surely after that game isn’t where you go with that.”

As the Chiefs head into the offseason, Smith isn’t the only topic of conversation:

RETIREMENT QUESTIONS: Chiefs linebackers Derrick Johnson and Tamba Hali could consider hanging it up after another letdown. Johnson still played at a reasonably high level, and said he’ll head home to Texas and ponder his future, while Hali was reduced to a part-time role because of his ailing knees. If he does not retire Daryl Williams Jersey , the Chiefs will almost certainly release him.

PROMISING YOUNGSTERS: The Chiefs have reason for optimism in that most of their biggest stars are young. Tyreek Hill had a breakout second season as a wide receiver, Kareem Hunt led the league in rushing as a rookie and defensive tackle Chris Jones is an emerging star on the other side of the ball.

COACHING CHANGES: Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and special teams coach Dave Toub are expected to interview for head coaching vacancies in Indianapolis and possibly Chicago. Nagy has become a hot target after taking over play-calling with great success midway through the season, while Toub had interviews last season for head coaching vacancies.

DRAFT DEARTH: The Chiefs have traded away many of their future picks to acquire talent, including their first-round selection this year as part of the deal that landed Mahomes last year. So, they have only a second, third, fourth and sixth in the upcoming draft, putting new general manager Brett Veach in quite a predicament as he tries to bolster a roster that was not quite good enough.

SNAKE-BIT FRANCHISE: Despite all the good that came of this season Mario Addison Jersey , the Chiefs still must feel like they’re a bit cursed. What would have happened had star safety Eric Berry not been lost for the season in their opener? Or if star tight end Travis Kelce didn’t go down in the first half against Tennessee with a concussion? ”The tendency is to look back and say, ”What happened?’ I don’t think that’s the way to go about it,” offensive lineman Mitchell Schwartz said. ”We just have to figure out how to play better.”

CHICAGO (AP) The snow was steady for most of the day Frostee Rucker Jersey , making for treacherous footing at Soldier Field.

The announced crowd of 41,257 sipped on all sorts of beverages while trying to stay as warm as possible, and stadium workers used shovels to clear the playing surface during timeouts.

A perfect scene for a proud son of Ohio playing his hometown team.

Mitchell Trubisky passed for 193 yards and ran for a touchdown to lead the Chicago Bears to a 20-3 victory over the winless Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

While fellow rookie DeShone Kizer threw two interceptions, including one in the end zone, Trubisky caught a big break while playing turnover-free football in Chicago’s second win in its past three games.

”It was cool to be playing in the snow on Christmas Eve against your hometown team,” he said. ”It’s kind of a dream come true. It was lot of fun and I enjoyed it every moment.”

The 23-year-old Trubisky is from Mentor Jared Veldheer Jersey , about 30 miles east of Cleveland. He starred at Mentor High School and the University of North Carolina before Chicago traded up to take him with the second pick in the draft.

While the Bears (5-10) are closing out their fourth consecutive losing season, Trubisky has shown some encouraging signs. He is 93 of 140 for 833 yards in 11 starts, setting a rookie team record for passing yards. He has thrown for four touchdowns and five interceptions, but three of those came during last weekend’s loss at Detroit.

”When you just let him take the wheel, when you let him do his thing, he’s a playmaker Tyvon Branch Jersey ,” Bears receiver Joshua Bellamy said. ”He’s an athlete. You can see what he can do with his legs. He can run the ball, he can throw the ball, he’s a great quarterback. He’ll be real good.”

Trubisky completed 14 of 23 passes against the Browns (0-15). He also scrambled seven times for 44 yards, including a 4-yard draw into the end zone for a 20-3 lead in the third quarter.

Trubisky celebrated his second career touchdown with some snow angels.

”I actually planned beforehand with Cody (offensive lineman Cody Whitehair) to let him spike it, but he was in a pile and then JB came over and grabbed me and was like, `Snow angel J. J. Nelson Jersey , snow angel, snow angel,”’ Trubisky said.

Chicago also got two touchdowns from Jordan Howard, who finished with 44 yards on 22 carries on a quiet day. Howard scored on a 16-yard run in the third quarter after Cleveland wasted a big chance to grab the lead.

On the first play from scrimmage in the second half, Trubisky was picked off by Myles Garrett on a tipped ball. Garrett ran outside and dashed down the sideline toward what looked like a go-ahead touchdown.

But Carl Nassib was flagged for lining up offside, adding another infamous moment to Cleveland’s historically bad season.

”I made the right decision with my progressions so I kind of got rewarded for it A.Q. Shipley Jersey ,” Trubisky said. ”The ball got tipped up, that’s part of the game, and it went the other way, but I just felt like because I was doing the right thing it just came back in our favor in the end.”

FOXBOROUGH Graham Gano Jersey , Mass. (AP) Bill Belichick made it a priority to get his team prepared for frigid weather leading up to the Patriots’ regular-season finale against the New York Jets.

With home-field advantage throughout the playoffs following a 26-6 victory on Sunday, the AFC’s road to the Super Bowl will again run through New England.

Dion Lewis ran for a touchdown and caught a scoring pass, helping the Patriots wrap up the top seed. The win clinched the seventh 13-win season for the Patriots (13-3), which is second in NFL history to San Francisco’s nine seasons.

Article continues below ...

It was also Belichick’s 250th career regular-season win, moving him into a tie with Tom Landry for third all-time among head coaches.

New England has defeated New York in four straight meetings, and the Patriots haven’t lost to the Jets (5-11) at home during the regular season with Tom Brady starting since 2006. Brady’s 13th win as a starter this season tied him with Brett Favre for the most by a starting quarterback at age 40 or older.

”Our biggest games are ahead of us,” Brady said. ”We’re 13-3, that’s the best in the AFC, that’s what we’re playing for Charles Johnson Jersey , so that’s pretty good.”

Lewis finished with a season-high 26 carries for 93 yards . Brandin Cooks had 11 catches for 79 yards and touchdown for New England, which will have a first-round bye in the playoffs. Tight end Rob Gronkowski was held without a catch for the first time this season.

James Harrison, signed by New England last Tuesday after being cut by Pittsburgh, had two sacks – on consecutive plays to end the game – and finished with five total tackles and a forced fumble.

”I always wonder why I’m not playing,” Harrison said when asked if this was statement game for him. ”Like they say, it’s never easy and it’s never late. It’s just timing.”

Temperatures dipped into the low-teens at kickoff, but it didn’t stop the Patriots from being aggressive at the outset.

They won the coin toss and elected to receive, going away from their typical decision to defer until the second half. Brady and the offense went to work, quickly moving 75 yards in just 13 plays to take a 7-0 lead on a 3-yard TD run by Lewis. The drive included a fourth-down pass conversion Andrew Norwell Jersey , one of three hookups between Brady and Danny Amendola in the series.

Penalties on the Jets’ defense aided New England’s final two scores of the first half. Safety Marcus Maye was called for a 39-yard pass interference penalty early in the second quarter that set up a 5-yard TD pass from Brady to Cooks that made it 14-3.

Then just before halftime, New York cornerback Juston Burris was flagged for defensive holding on a Patriots third-down pass attempt. New England got into the end zone three plays later via another 5-yard TD pass, this time from Brady to Lewis.

The Jets’ offense was anemic throughout with Bryce Petty playing the entire game at quarterback after it appeared Christian Hackenberg might see his first regular-season action at some point in the finale. New York was 0 for 12 on third down and 0 for 1 in its lone trip into the red zone.

”We stuck together,” linebacker David Bass said. ”We went through adversity, ups and downs, but more downs than we wanted. We stuck together through it all.”

Patriots safety Devin McCourty said getting the top seed shows the toughness of a team that lost key players such as Julian Edelman and Dont’a Hightower to injury.

”Those things we went through, when you wrap up the 2017 season, molded us, shaped us Daryl Williams Jersey ,” McCourty said. ”You look back on all that now, we needed all that.”

INJURIES

Jets: CB Morris Claiborne left briefly in the first quarter, but was able to return. … Maye limped off the field in the second quarter with an ankle injury and did not return. … WR Robby Anderson left after a fourth-quarter hit from Stephon Gilmore to have his head evaluated. Coach Todd Bowles said after the game that Anderson suffered a concussion.

Patriots: LB Elandon Roberts was shaken up on a play in the third quarter.

ECLIPSING 1,000

The Patriots have three players with 1,000-plus scrimmage yards in the same season for the first time in franchise history: Lewis, Gronkowski, Cooks.

FRIGID TEMPS

It was 13 degrees at kickoff, and the Patriots wanted to make sure their visitors knew it.

A thermometer was hung in the Jets’ tunnel on Sunday. New York players filed past on their way to and from the field before the game .

It was the coldest regular-season home game in Patriots history. They had a playoff games that was colder – a divisional round game against the Tennessee Titans on Jan. 10, 2004 Mario Addison Jersey , when it was 4 degrees with a wind chill that made it feel like minus 10.

Jets safety Jamal Adams went out pregame without a shirt to test the weather. He soon got a text from his mother.

”I put my shirt on, real quick,” he said.

BELOW 50

Brady’s 48.6 completion percentage (18 of 37) marked only the second time this season he completed less than 50 percent of his passes. He completed 44.4 percent (16 of 36) in the Patriots’ season-opening loss to Kansas City. Before that, it hadn’t happened since Oct. 20, 2013, in a 30-27 road loss to the Jets.

ORCHARD PARK Nick Boyle Jersey , N.Y. (AP) Rob Gronkowski was apologetic for pile-driving his shoulder into the back of Bills rookie cornerback Tre’Davious White’s head.

Bills safety Micah Hyde was livid, calling it a dirty play.

Injuries and accusations overshadowed New England extending its winning streak to eight games and closing in on its ninth consecutive AFC East title following a 23-3 win on Sunday.

Article continues below ...

Buffalo’s playoff hopes could be jeopardized after starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor hurt his left knee and had a towel draped over his head while being carted off the sideline early in the fourth quarter. And Gronkowski’s hit on White added to the Bills’ frustrations.

White was being evaluated for a concussion after he was struck by Gronkowski while lying on the ground after Buffalo’s rookie first-round pick intercepted a Brady pass with 4:50 remaining.

”That’s just dirty football. There’s nowhere in our game for that,” Hyde said. ”I don’t know if it was a shoulder, elbow, I’m not sure what it was. That was dirty.”

New England’s tight end was remorseful following the game.

”I’m not in the business of that. It was a lot of frustration,” he said. ”I just want to apologize to Tre’Davious White. I don’t really believe in those type of shots.”

Bills players were surprised Gronkowski wasn’t ejected, a sentiment shared by Dean Blandino Terrance West Jersey , the NFL’s former officiating director, who now is Fox TV analyst.

”In my opinion that was a play where Gronkowski should have been ejected from the game, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a substantial fine and maybe even a suspension going forward,” Blandino said following the game.

The hit sparked a shoving match between Hyde and Patriots receiver Danny Amendola. Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes was so upset he was flagged for making contact with an official. Gronkowski, Hyde and Amendola were penalized for unnecessary roughness.

”Obviously, it didn’t hurt the team there, but it definitely can in the future Mike Wallace Jersey ,” Gronkowski said. ”And you definitely got to keep your cool.”

It wasn’t lost on Hyde that the two division rivals will meet at New England in three weeks.

”I’m sure you guys will talk about it,” Hyde said to reporters. ”Obviously, this is something we’re going to be thinking about.”

Rex Burkhead scored on 1 and 14-yard runs on the Patriots first two drives of the second half, and Stephen Gostkowski hit three field goals in a game New England never trailed.

The Pats (10-2) won their 14th consecutive road game – the second-longest streak in NFL history – and reached double-digits in victories for the 15th consecutive season. New England also improved to 30-5 against Buffalo since Patriots coach Bill Belichick was hired in 2000.

Tom Brady went 21 of 30 for 258 yards and an interception, while improving to 27-3 over Buffalo and breaking Brett Favre’s NFL record for most wins by a quarterback against any one opponent. Favre had 26 wins over Detroit.

Buffalo (6-6) lost for the fourth time in five games and continued sliding out of the playoff picture

Taylor’s status is uncertain. He would only nod ”yes” when asked by The Associated Press if he was all right while limping heavily on his left knee as he boarded a cart and was driven out of the stadium.

Taylor continued playing despite being hurt on the first series.

”He was in pain. You could see it on his face, the expressions he was making,” running back LeSean McCoy said. ”It shows you a true warrior.”

Coach Sean McDermott provided no update except to say Taylor was being evaluated.

Minus Taylor Eric Weddle Jersey , the Bills would have to back to rookie Nathan Peterman. The fifth-round draft pick proved he wasn’t ready two weeks ago, throwing five interceptions in the first half of a 54-24 loss at the Los Angeles Chargers .

On Sunday, Peterman went 6 of 15 for 50 yards. His opening drive ended on downs at the Patriots 1 when his fade pass intended for Zay Jones was batted away by cornerback Stephon Gilmore, Buffalo’s 2012 first-round draft pick. Gilmore spent his first five seasons in Buffalo before signing with the Patriots in free agency this past offseason.

WILDCAT

The Bills introduced some trickery in a bid to spark their offense by using third-string quarterback Joe Webb in several wildcat formations.

Webb had three rushes for 27 yards, including a 22-yarder up the middle to open Buffalo’s fourth possession. Five snaps later, facing second-and-10 from New England’s’ 37, Webb slightly overthrew Travaris Cadet Matt Judon Jersey , who was open deep over the middle.

NO BEEF WITH BRADY

Late in the first quarter after the Patriots finished a 14-play drive that ended with a 50-yard field goal by Gostkowski, CBS cameras caught Brady and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels in a heated discussion on the sideline.

”It’s just football,” Brady said. ”We’ve been around each other a lot. I love Josh.”

WENGEN Graham Gano Jersey , Switzerland (AP) In the Alpine ski race that Switzerland loves most of all, Beat Feuz gave the home team yet another victory in the Lauberhorn downhill on Saturday.

Racing first, Feuz was watched by the Swiss president and 35,000 fans, setting a time on the longest World Cup course of 4.27 kilometers (2.65 miles) that only Aksel Lund Svindal could threaten.

Svindal wore the No. 3 bib and led at four of the five time splits, but the big Norwegian finished 0.18 seconds behind Feuz’s 2 minutes, 26.50 seconds.

”I’m very happy with the second place,” said Svindal Charles Johnson Jersey , who watched Feuz’s run on television at the start house overlooked by the Eiger and Jungfrau mountains. ”I kind of figured it would be a tough one to beat.”

Feuz punched the air with both fists in the leader’s box on seeing Svindal’s time – sensing a 62-man race that would take another two hours to complete was effectively over after eight minutes.

”A fantastic day, unbelievable. When Aksel came down, I knew mine was a good race,” said Feuz, who also won the world championships gold medal on home snow, at St. Moritz last February.

Matthias Mayer of Austria was third, 0.67 behind Feuz. It gave the storied race a podium of the world champion, flanked by the most consistent downhill racer of the past decade Andrew Norwell Jersey , and the 2014 Olympic champion.

Even fourth place was taken by Hannes Reichelt of Austria, who had his streak of five straight podium finishes at Wengen broken. When Reichelt won in 2015, he beat Feuz into second.

Feuz also won at Wengen in 2012, and the Swiss team has now won five of the past nine editions.

With his second downhill win this season, Feuz closed the gap on Svindal who leads the season-long standings. The 30-year-old Swiss previously won at Lake Louise, Canada, in November when Mayer and Svindal were also on the podium.

Svindal extended an impressive streak of top-three finishes in each of five World Cup downhills this season in his latest comeback from serious injuries and surgery.

”I can’t train as much,” said the 35-year-old Svindal who took silver in the 2010 Olympic downhill. ”So I’m very happy that I’m able to pull it out for the races and make it happen.”

On a clear and cold day Daryl Williams Jersey , the race was run under blue skies with sun lighting much of the course.

Feuz and Svindal were rewarded for choosing low numbers for the 12:30 p.m. local time (1130 GMT) start. World Cup rules let the top 10-ranked downhill racers pick an odd-numbered bib from Nos. 1 through 19.

Mayer started No. 11, and said the snow had become ”sticky” and slower in the sun-bathed upper section.

The fastest speed was recorded by Reichelt, wearing No. 19, who clocked 147.5 kph (almost 92 mph) on a straight section two minutes into his run. Still, the Austrian veteran’s chance was gone after dropping a full second behind Feuz in the top half.

Svindal lost time at halfway going through the S-shaped turns where he grazed his head against safety nets and exited at just 70.7 kph (44 mph).

”It’s one of those old-school turns that’s almost impossible to do with the speed you carry,” he said, revealing his helmet was marked blue from ”burned rubber.”

A festive day included a pre-race fly-past by military jet fighters escorting a Swiss airlines jumbo.

The host nation’s president, Alain Berset Mario Addison Jersey , watched in a public duty days before world leaders gather in Switzerland at Davos, where he is scheduled to meet U.S. President Donald Trump.

”It’s really magnificent,” Berset told The Associated Press of Feuz’s win. ”It’s the biggest downhill race in the world for us obviously.”
