HOUSTON — One thing that stood out about the game-winning basket produced by Houston Rockets guard Chris Paul on Thursday against the Portland Trail Blazers was the fact that Jack Morris Jersey , a week earlier, the Rockets received a buzzer-beating jumper from another member of its backcourt.

When Paul converted a driving floater with eight-tenths of a second left, he not only secured a 96-94 victory that extended the Rockets’ homecourt winning streak to 20 games, he followed a similar bit of heroics delivered by Gerald Green on March 30 against the Phoenix Suns.

While Paul saved the Rockets the indignity of playing an extra period after once holding a 24-point lead, Green capped a comeback from a 21-point deficit with his game-winning, corner 3-pointer.

The Rockets (64-15) received a similar shot from guard Eric Gordon on Oct. 25 Miguel Gonzalez Jersey , with Gordon nailing a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cap a 105-104 road victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. When it comes to needing a bit of late-game heroics, Houston has ample options at its disposal.

If needed, the Rockets hope to use one of their options to close out another game Saturday night when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder.

“We’ve got a lot of closers,” Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni said. “Eric has made a big shot, Gerald has made a big shot, Chris does Trevor Hoffman Jersey , James (Harden) does. We’ve got a lot of them.”

Harden, an MVP frontrunner, is absent from the Rockets’ list of buzzer-beating contributors. He has, of course, produced his share of clutch shots and appreciates the additional support.

“It helps a lot,” Harden said. “These last few years especially I’ve learned that Cheap B.J. Hill Jersey , obviously, you can’t do it by yourself. You need guys to step up and make big shots and make big plays. We have enough guys here on any given night that can change a playoff series. That’s what you need. That’s what can push you over the top.”

The Thunder (45-34) are aware of the challenge that comes with defending the Rockets’ multitude of shooters. Atop any scouting report on Houston is that particular directive.

“Biggest thing is, eliminate as many 3s as possible and having a focus on more than just James and Chris, having a focus on everybody,” Thunder forward Paul George said. “They’ve got guys that can shoot the ball.”

Oklahoma City will be seeking a season series victory at Toyota Center, having split the previous two meetings with the Rockets at Chesapeake Energy Arena. A win by itself is of greater significance for the Thunder Robbie Grossman Jersey , losers of four of its last five games during this stretch run.

The Thunder remain squarely in the playoff picture, but the tenuous standings at the bottom of the West make for perilous footing for several teams, but they are not worried.

“We’re not in the situation to press,” George said. “We’ve just got to handle what our job is. We’re not on the bubble trying to play and fight our way in. We’re in right now; we’ve got to sustain that. It’s not a scenario where we’re in the situation to be pressing. We’ve just got to handle our job and close this year out on a high note.”

After rain washed out Thursday’s scheduled series opener Cheap Lamar Jackson Jersey , the Oakland Athletics and Chicago White Sox will play a day-night doubleheader on Friday at Guaranteed Rate Field to kick off a four-game series.

The A’s will go for their season-high fifth win in a row when they finally take the field on Chicago’s South Side.

Oakland (38-36) has won four straight games on four occasions this season, including its current stretch, but has yet to make it five. The A’s have outscored opponents 28-15 during this week’s streak, which includes two wins apiece against the Los Angeles Angels and San Diego Padres.

A’s hitters slugged five homers in a 12-4 rout of the Padres on Wednesday. The team already has four players with double-digit blasts including Khris Davis (20), Matt Olson (15), Jed Lowrie (11) and the injured Matt Chapman (10).

“We definitely have some power,” A’s manager Bob Melvin told the A’s official website. “That’s one of the strengths of the team.”

As Oakland is riding a hot streak, Chicago (24-49) is mired in a seven-game losing streak. A loss in the series opener would give the White Sox their worst skid of the season, which is saying something considering the club’s ugly record.

White Sox manager Rick Renteria’s club has been swept in its last two series Erik Gonzalez Jersey , against the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians. In Wednesday’s series finale, Chicago managed only two hits in a 12-0 shutout loss to the Indians.

“It’s tough, but instead of getting frustrated, we have to keep working, use that feeling to work harder,” White Sox second baseman Yoan Moncada told the team’s official website. “There are still plenty of games to play, and we can improve. We can keep getting better, and if it is not this year, then next year. But definitely the games we have this year Cheap Ryan Jensen Jersey , we have a chance to improve.”

The White Sox will turn to right-hander James Shields (2-8, 4.63 ERA) in the first game of the twin bill. The 36-year-old has pitched at least six innings in 11 consecutive starts as part of a bounce-back season atop the club’s rotation.

In his career against Oakland, Shields is 6-7 with a 4.86 ERA in 19 games (18 starts). He came in as a reliever in the 14th inning of a game against Oakland in April this season, and gave up two hits, two walks and the game-winning run in two-thirds of an inning.

The A’s will start the doubleheader with left-hander Sean Manaea (6-6, 3.56 ERA), who grew up in Northwest Indiana, not far from Chicago. The 26-year-old is off to a good start this season with 19 walks and 68 strikeouts in 93 2/3 innings.

Manaea has never faced the White Sox in his career.

In the nightcap, White Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito (4-7 Authentic Vita Vea Jersey , 7.19 ERA) will look to improve in his 15th start of the season. The former first-round pick of the Washington Nationals (No. 16 overall in 2012) has terrific potential but has been unable to produce consistent results in his first full season in Chicago.

Poor command has plagued Giolito, who has 45 walks in 71 1/3 innings. He also has hit 10 batters, which is tied for most in the majors along with Cole Hamels of the Texas Rangers and Carlos Martinez of the St. Louis Cardinals.

This will mark the 23-year-old’s first career appearance against Oakland.

For the A’s, right-hander Chris Bassitt (0-2, 2.45 ERA) will make his third start of the season in the nightcap. The 29-year-old is seeking his first victory since Aug. 4, 2015, against the Baltimore Orioles.

Bassitt is quite familiar with the White Sox, who drafted him in the 16th round in 2011 and developed him in the minors. He went 1-1 with a 3.94 ERA in six appearances (five starts) as a rookie in Chicago in 2014.

Bassitt has faced the White Sox once in his career, giving up eight hits and four runs in 5 1/3 innings on April 5 Authentic Alex Cappa Jersey , 2016. He did not get a decision in Chicago’s 5-4 victory.

On Dec. 9, 2014, the White Sox shipped Bassitt, Marcus Semien, Josh Phegley and minor leaguer Rangel Ravelo to Oakland for Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa. The trade did not pan out as hoped for Chicago, which retained Samardzija for one underwhelming season before he signed as a free agent with the San Francisco Giants.

This is the first series of the season between the teams. Last year, Oakland won the season series 5-1.

The mother of a G League player who died in March after collapsing on the court during a game has filed a federal lawsuit accusing the NBA and the Detroit Pistons of negligence.

Zeke Upshaw played for the Grand Rapids Drive Cheap New York Giants Hoodie , a G League affiliate of the Pistons. He collapsed during a game at Grand Rapids on March 24 and died two days later .

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The NBA and Pistons are named as defendants, along with SSJ Group and The DeltaPlex Arena. The lawsuit alleges medical personnel at the game failed to attempt lifesaving measures in a timely fashion.

Whenever the Cubs come to town Steelers Cheap Jerseys , their fans fill the stands at Great American Ball Park and their offense usually carries the day. Not so for the last two.

Eugenio Suarez hit a go-ahead homer off Jose Quintana in the fifth inning, and the Cincinnati Reds held on for their fifth straight victory Friday night, 6-3 over the Cubs .

The Reds have won the first two games in the four-game set, a recent rarity in the rivalry. It’s only the second time in the last two years that they’ve won back-to-back games in a series against Chicago. The Cubs are 43-21 against the Reds over the last four seasons.

Cincinnati’s winning streak is one shy of its season high. The Reds are last in the NL Central at 30-45.

”We’re playing really good baseball right now,” Suarez said . ”When you play like that Cheap New York Giants Hoodie , good things can happen.”

Suarez’s two-run shot in the fifth inning off Quintana (6-6) gave him a team-high 16 homers and put the Reds ahead 4-3. Billy Hamilton and Joey Votto also singled home runs off Quintana, who had allowed only six earned runs in his last four starts combined.

Quintana hung a changeup on his second pitch to Suarez, who has four homers in his last six games.

”I just missed my spot – a bad pitch,” Quintana said through a translator. ”A bad time to have that happen.”

Suarez also singled twice and extended his hitting streak to a career-high 12 games, the longest by a Reds third baseman since Todd Frazier hit in 14 straight in 2014.

Javier Baez drove in a run with a bunt single off Luis Castillo (5-8) Lucas Giolito Jersey , and Kyle Schwarber followed with a two-run homer, his third in four games. Castillo went 5 2/3 innings for his first victory since May 24, ending a streak of four straight losses.

Raisel Iglesias retired the side in the ninth for his 12th save in 14 chances.

”That was one of our cleaner ballgames of the season,” interim manager Jim Riggleman said. ”We played a good ballgame – offensively, defensively Cam Bedrosian Jersey , ran the bases well, timely hitting.”

Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo went a combined 0 for 8 with three strikeouts as Chicago’s offense struggled again, managing only four hits.

”We’ve played maybe two of our least-impressive games in a month,” manager Joe Maddon said. ”It’s just not been us playing our typical game.”

DUENSING BACK

Left-handed reliever Brian Duensing was activated off the bereavement list before the game. He had been gone for four days to attend his grandfather’s funeral. The Cubs optioned right-hander Justin Hancock to Triple-A Iowa.

GREAT GRAB

Cubs reliever Justin Wilson made a diving grab of Jesse Winker’s bunt in the seventh, landing on his chest while stretching for the ball. He was shaken up for a moment but stayed in the game.

STATS

Each of Schwarber’s last three hits has been a home run. Schwarber grew up in nearby Middletown and attended Reds games at Great American. He’s batted .318 in 30 career games against the Reds with nine homers and 25 RBIs.

Brandin Cooks has been traded twice in the past 13 months despite being one of the NFL’s most productive receivers over the past three years Edwin Encarnacion Jersey , so the Rams’ new top target knows he probably shouldn’t get completely comfortable in Los Angeles.

He’s still grateful to be joining another talented team with a shot at another Super Bowl – and perhaps he can still find a long-term future at home in California, too.

”It would be an extreme blessing to be here for a long haul, coming in here to be with a special group of guys,” Cooks said Thursday at the Rams’ training complex. ”At the end of the day, it’s not something I’m pressing. I just want to come in here and be the best that I can be.”

Los Angeles coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead praised Cooks’ character and talent when they formally welcomed him to the defending NFC West champions, who had the NFL’s highest-scoring offense last year.

They’ve been interested in acquiring Cooks since before his first trade from New Orleans to New England last March. After Cooks posted another 1,000-yard season and reached the Super Bowl with New England Marwin Gonzalez Jersey , the Rams finally got him Monday.

”I’m hard-pressed to remember a player that’s got so many positive things said about him from different people he’s been exposed to,” McVay said. ”You’re talking about a special person and a special player. Clearly he’s going to be a big part of our offense, being able to play our `X’ receiver (position) and do a variety of things.”

Cooks’ ability as a deep threat makes him a strong replacement for Sammy Watkins, who was acquired by the Rams last season after they failed to get Cooks. Watkins parlayed his single season in McVay’s high-powered passing game into a lavish free-agent deal with Kansas City.

Cooks also can be a free agent next year, but the Rams were willing to take the risk because they’re determined to build a Super Bowl contender with the payroll space available while Jared Goff is still in his rookie contract.

”Simply put, 2018 is important,” Snead said. ”We definitely want to repeat as NFC (West) champions Jake Lamb Jersey , but … a lot of the players we’ve acquired are young and have evolved to be in the prime of their careers, and we would love to take advantage of that over not just `18, but `19, `20, `21 and moving forward.”

The Rams’ trades for Watkins and Cooks have left them without a pick in the first two rounds of the upcoming draft, but Snead doesn’t sound terribly worried about the potential loss of organizational depth.

The Rams would rather have Cooks, who has already put together three seasons that were more productive than anything Watkins has done in the same four-year stretch. Cooks also is still three months younger than Cooper Kupp Authentic Sebastian Janikowski Jersey , who just finished an impressive rookie season for the Rams.

Cooks’ 1,082 yards receiving with the Patriots last season were 11th-most in the NFL. He was seventh in the league with 1,173 yards in 2016 during his final season with New Orleans, and he is one of just three active players with 1,000 yards and at least five touchdowns in each of the past three seasons.

Cooks had the benefit of catching passes from Drew Brees and Tom Brady. He already seems confident in Goff’s ability to provide him with similar service.

Cooks did have to playfully bat down one rumor that had already excited Rams fans: Although he has met Goff several times, and although they share the same agent, they haven’t already had throwing sessions before the trade.

There’s plenty of time for that now.

”I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to be able to grow with a young guy Authentic Rashaad Penny Jersey ,” Cooks said. ”I’m young myself, so to be able to start that rapport this offseason is going to be extremely huge. I look forward to getting to work right away.”

MINNEAPOLIS — A series that was solely in the Rockets’ favor in Houston took a turn in Game 3 in Minnesota.

Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni was his usual calm self after the 121-105 loss on Saturday Freddie Freeman Jersey , but he knows his team will have to match the Timberwolves‘ intensity in Game 4 on Monday night in Minnesota.

“Yeah, it’s disappointing,” D’Antoni said after Houston lost its first game of the series and just the third in 23 meetings against Minnesota. “But, hey guys, you have a playoff series and they’re a good team. They played better than we did today. We’ll make some adjustments. We’ll figure this out.

“On Monday, we’ll have to match their intensity. If we don’t, we’ll get beat again. It’s pretty simple.”

Driven by the Target Center crowd that hadn’t witnessed a home playoff game since 2004 Lou Gehrig Jersey , the Timberwolves pulled to 2-1 in the seven-game series with the top-seeded Rockets. Jimmy Butler scored 28 points, Jeff Teague added 23 and Minnesota hit 15 3-pointers in Saturday’s win.

The Timberwolves, who hit the fewest 3s per game in the NBA during the regular season, matched Houston’s total. The Rockets led the league in 3s per game in the regular season.

“They’re a great team,” Minnesota coach Tom Thibodeau said. “We know we’re going to have to play better on Monday. I think we’re capable of playing better. We’re learning more each day.

“We learn. We improve. Same thing, we know we can’t feel too good about ourselves. We have to get in tomorrow, study the film Authentic Harrison Phillips Jersey , get ready. We know Monday will be an intense game.”

The Timberwolves hope they’ve found a combination to be able to keep up with the Rockets. Minnesota’s defense, which was among the worst in the league during the regular season, has slowly come around and helped trigger a big second half on Saturday.

From Karl-Anthony Towns engaging defenders down low to power forward Taj Gibson defending James Harden one-on-one resulting in a poor shot attempt, the Timberwolves’ defense effort became contagious team-wide.

The Rockets shot 47.5 percent from the field in the second half but had seven turnovers and were just 6 of 19 (31.6 percent) from 3.

“We’re a young team in playoff experience, so we’re growing, getting better every game,” Teague said. “Tonight we took a big step. I think we picked up our intensity and played a lot harder Yonder Alonso Jersey , but it’s still a long way to go.”

Minnesota also got Towns more involved on the offensive end. His lack of shots has been a topic all series. The All-Star center had nine shots in each of the first two games of the series and scored a total of 13 points.

On Saturday, he had 18 points, including 12 in the second half.

“I think it is a sense of patience,” Towns said. “First quarter, I don’t think I shot a shot. So it’s letting the game come to me naturally, not trying to rush and trying to find shots. Letting the shots find me and my teammates were amazing.”

Harden scored 29 points and Chris Paul had 17 points and six assists, but the Rockets now need to make an adjustment.

Houston wants to get back to its defensive approach and limit Minnesota as it did in the first two games of the series. The Timberwolves averaged 91.5 points per game in the first two games and shot just 38.8 percent from the field in Game 2.

“We knew that was going to be a lot more comfortable coming home David Robertson Jersey ,” Paul said. “They make a lot more 3s tonight, 15 for 27, and we got to be better defensively. We were just opening up the lane and letting Teague drive and all the other guys, so we know we got to be better.”

Stephen Curry shook Steve Cishek Jersey , shimmied and screamed, letting his adoring fans and the Rockets know that Oracle Arena was his house.

Once the two-time MVP got his groove back, Houston was helpless.

Curry scored 35 points with five 3-pointers, shooting over James Harden and driving past him as the Golden State Warriors made a second-half statement to beat the Rockets 126-85 on Sunday night for a 2-1 lead in the Western Conference finals.

Curry had 18 points on 7-for-7 shooting in the third quarter, lying with his back flat on the court for his unique version of a snow angel and even following one basket with an expletive, shouting ”This is my … house!” to the thousands who cheered and exhaled, exhilarated by his every move and rumble.

”There’s obviously that anticipation when you come in transition and you find an open look and there’s a collective hush in the crowd, especially in this building,” Curry said. ”It’s a cool moment. I was searching for it in the first half. I had plenty of opportunities Ender Inciarte Jersey , I just couldn’t knock it down. Third quarter it opened up. I’ve been doing it for a while. I won’t let two tough games shooting keep me frustrated.”

The 41-point victory was the largest in franchise history during the postseason, topping a 39-point win – 85-46 – by the Philadelphia Warriors against the St. Louis Bombers on April 6, 1948.

Kevin Durant added 25 points, six rebounds and six assists, while Draymond Green grabbed 17 rebounds to go with 10 points and six assists. The Warriors won an NBA-record 16th consecutive home postseason game, surpassing the Chicago Bulls’ mark of 15 in a row from April 27, 1990-May 21, 1991.

”We’re in the middle of a hell of a run, obviously Xander Bogaerts Jersey ,” coach Steve Kerr said.

The defending champions got defensive – and maybe a little mad – after a 127-105 Game 2 defeat Wednesday night at Houston, determined to make stops to ignite the transition game and open up 3-point shooters.

Especially Curry, who snapped out of his slump with four in the second half.

”I’ve seen those explosions happen everywhere, not just here,” Green said. ”His 3 is similar to some people’s dunk. You go to certain arenas and a guy gets a dunk it’s just absurd. That’s how his 3 ball is. … Don’t mean to disappoint, but I’ve seen crazier from him.”

Harden had 20 points and nine assists, while Chris Paul added 13 points and 10 rebounds as they combined to shoot just 12 for 32.

Game 4 is Tuesday night at Oracle Arena.

Curry and Durant each scored five quick points as Golden State opened the third quarter with a 10-0 burst to go ahead 64-43.

Of riding the emotion with his shot – after so many questions about his perceived struggles so far this series – Curry noted, ”You’ve got to be your biggest fan sometimes.”

Under pressure from Paul, Curry swished a 3 from way back with 5:06 left in the third. He struggled with his long-range shot again early but drove through the paint at every chance.

Curry hit a baseline 3-pointer at the 9:02 mark of the first but missed his next five 3s before going 4 for 5 in the second half. He is now 7 of 25 from long range – he made one in each of the first two games.

”All it takes is one Tyler Clippard Jersey ,” Kerr said.

Both potent offenses were slow getting rolling as the teams played strong defense.

Harden and Paul began 3 for 14 with Paul missing six shots before getting his first basket on goaltending against Andre Iguodala 2:39 before halftime.

”Offensively we didn’t have any thrust, and they exploited it,” Harden said.

Golden State began getting the looks it liked after halftime. The Warriors faced more stingy, in-the-face pressure from Houston, making it hard to get any early flow shooting. Durant hit his first 3 6:27 before halftime then missed from the deep the next time down.

A moment of silence was held before the national anthem for victims of the Houston school shooting.

DALLAS (AP) – The NBA is reviewing 2011 allegations of sexual assault against Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and the investigation that led to a decision by prosecutors not to pursue the case.

Smith’s resignation came one day after the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office said he wouldn’t face charges ”at this time” in a domestic violence investigation. Even though no charges were filed, the university said on Tuesday that Smith remained on administrative leave pending a school investigation.

Athletic director Bill McGillis said Smith, who played at USD and was in his third season as coach, offered his resignation and the school accepted it. McGillis said he then notified the team.

Commissioner Roger Goodell held an appeal hearing with Jones on Monday. That came a few days after Goodell assessed the financial penalties for Jones’ lawsuit to overturn the suspension of Cowboys star running back Ezekiel Elliott, and for a lawsuit Jones threatened to stop Goodell’s newly approved contract.

DENVER (AP) – Peyton Manning sold 31 Denver-area Papa John’s stores last week, two days before the NFL dropped the chain as its official pizza sponsor.

The Denver Post reported that Papa John’s spokesman Peter Collins confirmed the former NFL quarterback sold his stake to an existing Papa John’s franchisee. Manning will remain Papa John’s celebrity spokesman and brand ambassador. He wasn’t immediately available for comment.

The NFL and Papa John’s ended their deal Feb. 27.

HORSE RACING

NEW YORK (AP) – An aggrieved harness-racing bettor has gone to court to recoup more than $31,000 in winnings he said he was cheated out of when a doped horse won a race in New Jersey two years ago.

Leading figures in harness racing said they had never before heard of such a lawsuit, which accuses the train. Womens Cordy Glenn Jersey , Womens Su'a Cravens Jersey , Adidas Brad Marchand Jersey , Adidas Anze Kopitar Jersey ,

SAINT PAUL Patrick Corbin Jersey , Minn. — March Madness is certainly not limited to the college basketball court, when one considers the NHL’s made scramble of teams to sign their college draftees and finalize playoff spots. That’s the case in both scenarios for the Minnesota Wild, who host the Dallas Stars on Thursday having just gotten one of their college prizes in uniform, and as they hover near the clinching point in the Western Conference playoff race.

The Wild return home after a shootout loss in Nashville on Tuesday night — a game which all involved agreed had a real playoff feel. With the Predators already in the postseason and the Wild close to clinching a sixth consecutive trip, a May meeting between those teams is not a far-fetched idea. For Minnesota, Tuesday also marked the NHL debut of prized collegian and Olympic forward Jordan Greenway Mike Montgomery Jersey , who signed with the Wild less than 24 hours after his Boston University career ended with a Terriers’ loss to Michigan on Sunday in the NCAA East Regional final.

Greenway won’t be skating in the NCAA Frozen Four, which will be played at Xcel Energy Center in a week. Instead, he’ll skate as part of the home team on the Wild’s home ice for the first time on Thursday.

“You see that he’s going to be a good player,” Wild coach Bruce Boudreau said after Greenway’s debut in Nashville. “Positionally he was fine and he’s got great reach. This is a tough game for number one for a young man’s career, but I thought he handled it well.”

Although the rookie is less of a story than the cagey veteran in Minnesota these days, after Eric Staal became just the second player in franchise history to record a 40-goal season on Tuesday.

“It’s nice. It feels good Authentic Brandon Parker Jersey ,” said Staal, who joins only Gordie Howe in NHL history to have 40-goal seasons nine years apart. “When you’re at 39 you always want to get it out of the way, especially when you’ve got people texting you, calling you, my kids and people are watching, so it is nice and it was nice to get it in that moment.”

For Dallas Authentic J'Mon Moore Jersey , the eight-game streak without a win (0-6-2) is finally over after they beat the Flyers in overtime on Tuesday. Unfortunately, their hopes of making the playoffs are all but over as well. Statistically, the Stars need to go unbeaten in their final five games, and get plenty of help, to have a chance of sneaking in, meaning that every game is like an elimination game now.

“We live to fight another day. We’ve got to go win a road game and that’s the players’ attitude Babe Ruth Jersey ,” Stars coach Ken Hitchcock said after the home win over Philadelphia. “Everybody is kind of focused on that.”

The teams have split their first two meetings of the season, with the Wild winning at home in late December, and the Stars handing Minnesota one of its worst losses of the season, 6-1, in Dallas in early February. The will follow up Thursday’s game in Minnesota with a Saturday night meeting in Texas.
