Apex Legends seems like it's about to start spooling up its releases rather quick. After two weeks it gave us a new gun, but from datamining, it appears that far more than just that is going to arrive in the game soon. It's pretty clear that one key to Apex's monetization is going to be perhaps the addition of new Legends above all else, similar to League of Legends. EA, being EA, is throwing every monetization model at the wall to see what sticks. Apex has Fortnite's rotating shop and will soon be getting Fortnite's battle pass. It has Overwatch's loot boxes.
One Apex Legends player has posted a hilarious video that shows how pretty much every match of the battle royale brawler starts. As Respawn Entertainment's title soars up the gaming charts, players have noticed an annoying problem when they drop into battle. Instead of working on another Titanfall game, Respawn Entertainment decided to cash in on the hype of battle royale games like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Putting a twist on the classic last player standing formula, Apex Legends assigns gamers into squads of three to be the top team. Unfortunately, playing with random teammates can lead to some selfish gameplay.
Apex Legends has been a smash hit for Respawn and EA so far, but the game is just getting started. In March, Respawn plans to launch the game's first season, and it has teased future content updates, including new maps, characters, and more. While Respawn itself hasn't offered much in the way of specifics for new characters, leaks have potentially revealed what new characters are in the works, including one named Prophet.
Earlier last week, Twitch Prime released its first Apex Legends package. There's a legendary skin up for grabs for Pathfinder along with five free Apex Packs. These packs give you the chance to pick up additional skins for legends or weapons and earn various forms of in-game currency. If you want to grab the free loot but don't know how, you'll need to link three different accounts to get the gear. Leaks have now confirmed that past names mentioned other data grabs are in fact new characters, not weapons. And there are eleven of them in total, meaning that more characters have been leaked than currently exist in the game, as there are only eight live right now, six free and two, Mirage and Caustic, locked for purchase.
Posting on Twitter, Apex Legends fan Rory Powers' video shows how a typical match starts. As players and their squad head into the battlefield and scramble for weapons, it usually involves one person hoarding everything they can find while their teammates are left with lame options and limited ammo. Rory's video shows him shouting "where's the guns?" as he grabs everything from an N64 controller to a ninja star, a guitar to a cuddly toy.
According to a datamine by GamingINTEL, Prophet will have an ability called Precog, presumed to be short for Precognition. We can't tell for sure what the Precognition ability will do, but it seems likely that it will give players some sort of advantage by giving them future knowledge.
