The Chiefs have agreed to a three-year Chase Daniel Jersey , $7.5 million contract with longtime punter Dustin Colquitt on Thursday, a deal that could ensure he plays the rest of his career in Kansas City.

His representatives at CAA said the deal could be worth up to $9 million with incentives.

Colquitt, who turns 36 in May, was a third-round pick of the Chiefs in 2005 Jason Witten Jersey , and has proceeded to have one of the best punting careers in franchise history. He's appeared in all but two games over the past 13 seasons, earning Pro Bowl appearances in 2012 and 2016.

The Chiefs expected to get a deal with Colquitt done soon after free agency began, and general manager Brett Veach alluded to it happening "soon" when he addressed reporters Wednesday.

Colquitt's father, Craig Marshall Newhouse Jersey , and uncle, were also professional punters, and his brother Britton spent last season with the Browns after six seasons with the Broncos.

That lineage has earned them the label, "The first family of fourth down."

The Arizona Cardinals have signed free agent wide receiver Brice Butler to a two-year contract.

Monday's move addresses one of the team's biggest needs Marcell Dareus Jersey , depth at the receiver position, following the departure of John Brown and Jaron Brown to free agency.

Butler, entering his sixth NFL season, played the last three seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and totaled 43 catches for 794 yards and six touchdowns. He was selected by Oakland in the seventh round out of San Diego State in the 2013 draft and played his first two seasons with the Raiders.

Overall Darius Slay Jersey , the 28-year-old receiver has appeared in 61 games, with 73 catches for 1,177 yards and eight touchdowns.

Regular season schedules will be announced at a later date.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets often shoot 3-pointers but not necessarily at a record pace.

After making a franchise-record 24 3-pointers on Saturday, the Nets attempt to produce another good showing from behind the arc Monday night when they host the Chicago Bulls in the second game of a home-and-home set.

The Nets average 35.5 attempts from 3-point range and are making 35.6 percent of their attempts heading into their final home game. The Nets increased their percentage from behind the arc by making 24 of 55 in Saturday’s 124-96 rout at Chicago.

It was one shy of the NBA record set by Cleveland last season and four players made at least three 3-pointers. Quincy Acy (34.7 percent from 3-point range) was 6 of 13, Allan Crabbe (36.8 percent) was 5 of 13, Joe Harris (41.9 percent) was 4 of 5 and D’Angelo Russell (33 percent) was 3 of 7.

“When we’re hot Jordan Mills Jersey , I felt like we can run with anybody in the gym,” Acy told reporters. “And tonight, we got hot.”

Hot might be an understatement but whatever adjective is used, it led to Brooklyn’s fourth win in six games. During those six games, the Nets are shooting 41.2 percent from 3-point range.

The Nets are 10-14 when shooting at least 40 percent from 3-point range and 7-7 when making at least 45 percent. They also are 0-2 when shooting at least 50 percent from behind the arc mostly because they allow 110.6 points per game, but Saturday was the 13th time an opponent was held under 100 points.

Brooklyn is 0-6 in its attempts at a third straight win due to the fact it has averaged 100.6 points and shot 32.7 percent on 3-pointers in those games.

“Our challenge is how we’re going to handle this Zack Martin Jersey , beating Chicago and having that great win in Milwaukee,” Nets coach Kenny Atkinson told reporters. “What does this look like in Brooklyn. We haven’t won three in a row. Now the question is, can we get the next one.”

Chicago (27-53) will finish under 30 wins for the first time since the 2003-04 season and enters its final road game with nine losses in the last 12 games. The Bulls are 10-26 in their last 36 since getting to 10 games under. .500 on Jan. 13.

“It’s pretty tough man,” Chicago forward Bobby Portis told reporters of guarding the Nets. “It’s like playing the Rockets. They shoot a lot of 3s. They shoot a lot of contested shots. That’s what their coach preaches.”

Portis also wasn’t thrilled with the Nets enjoying themselves immensely after the 3-point barrage.

“Personally, I can’t wait to play. You know, them laughing and things like that. You can go out there and joke around La'el Collins Jersey , have some fun, but we need to do some things they did to beat us and be the tougher team.”

The Bulls held rookie Lauri Markkanen out of the game and if he plays, the forward would be limited to about 22 to 24 minutes. Markkanen is averaging 22.3 points in his last three games but has missed eight games since March 1.

One player who will play is former Net Sean Kilpatrick, who scored 20 points. Kilpatrick began the season with Brooklyn but will be facing the Nets for the fifth time as an opponent after playing Saturday and twice against them in limited minutes during two games with Milwaukee and one with the Los Angeles Clippers.

‘We’re going to try to compete at a high level,” Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg told reporters. “I know our guys will play hard and play with passion. That’s what we’re asking of our team right now. They’re going out to compete to win. That’s the makeup of a player; that’s what their job is.”

Brooklyn shot 38.1 percent (16 of 42) from 3-point range in its 104-87 home win over Chicago on Feb. 26. The Nets are attempting to sweep the season series for the first time since the 2004-05 season.

Reigning champion Real Madrid is supporting plans to expand the Club World Cup to 24 teams following a meeting at FIFA.

Madrid is part of the European Club Association Chris Baker Jersey , which has voiced concerns about FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s proposals for a quadrennial Club World Cup to replace the annual tournament and pushed for players to get more mandatory rest periods.

Europe’s top domestic competitions, including the English Premier League and Spain’s La Liga, have also opposed FIFA’s plans.

But Madrid, winner of the last two editions of the Club World Cup, is endorsing Infantino’s vision of the tournament being played every four years in June or July with 12 representatives from Europe.

Madrid’s director of institutional relations, Emilio Butragueno, believes fans would prefer the new tournament over the current seven-team format.

BERLIN (AP) – German officials called on the global soccer federation FIFA to intervene Saturday after a journalist who exposed systematic doping in Russian athletics was denied entry to Russia to report on the upcoming World Cup.

German lawmaker Dagmar Freitag, who chairs the sports committee in parliament, said the cancellation of Hajo Seppelt’s visa was ”not just completely unjustified, but pretty scandalous.”

Freitag told German news agency dpa she was ”anxious to see how (FIFA chief Gianni) Infantino reacts.”

Reinhard Grindel, the head of the German soccer federation, also noted FIFA’s pledge to uphold press freedom. He told dpa he had ”full confidence FIFA will use its influence so Mr. Seppelt can report unhindered from Russia.”

Seppelt works for German public broadcaster ARD. FIFA confirmed that it had already approved his accreditation request and was trying to obtain further information from Russian authorities about the case.

GOLF

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Tiger Woods shot a 3-under 69 in the final round of the Players Championship and tied for 11th at 11-under 277.

His round could have been much closer to the 65 he shot Saturday, except his approach on 14 spun off the green. He then missed an 8-foot par putt that caused him to flip his club Walter Payton Jersey , ended up with a disappointing bogey and limped home with a double at the famed 17th . Woods, however, left the course feeling better than ever about his comeback. He’s still seeking his first victory since returning from a fourth back surgery.

”This weekend was more like it,” Woods said.

Woods felt like he finally pulled together all aspects of his game: His driving was impeccable, his iron play was better than it’s been all week and his putting was as good as it’s been all season. He stirred packed galleries into a frenzy on Mother’s Day while wearing his traditional red shirt. Fans young and old stood dozens deep, scurrying from tee to fairway to green, just for a brief peek at Woods.

BASEBALL

CHICAGO (AP) – Major League Baseball has warned Ben Zobrist of the Chicago Cubs against wearing black cleats.

Zobrist posted a letter from the league office on Instagram saying the cleats he wore May 2 against Colorado violated the collective bargaining agreement. MLB says they must be at least 51 percent blue – the Cubs’ color – and warned he could be fined and disciplined if he doesn’t comply.

Zobrist wrote he has worn black cleats for day games at Wrigley Field the past two years to honor the game’s past. He said he was inspired by watching highlights of greats such as Ernie Banks and Stan Musial in the 1950s and 1960s.

He had little to say about the warning after the Cubs beat the crosstown White Sox on Saturday, other than he plans to talk to the league and union about it. He came in to play left field as part of a double switch. And yes, he had on black cleats.

BASKETBALL

BOSTON (AP) – Jaylen Brown had 23 points and eight rebounds, Marcus Morris added 21 points and 10 boards, and the Boston Celtics opened a 21-point, first-quarter lead and scorched the Cleveland Cavaliers 108-83 on Sunday in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Al Horford scored 20 points for the Celtics, who ran off 17 consecutive points in the first quarter and never allowed the Cavaliers within single digits again. Boston led by 28 when Cleveland coach Tyronn Lue pulled LeBron James for good with 7:09 left.

Game 2 is Tuesday night.

Kevin Love had 17 points and eight rebounds, and James finished with 15 points Michael Gallup Jersey , nine assists and seven boards. The Cavaliers missed their first 14 3-point attempts of the game and shot just 32 percent in the first half.

By that time, Boston led 61-35 – the biggest halftime playoff deficit in James’ career.

HOCKEY

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – The Washington Capitals scored in the opening minute of the game and twice in the last 1:02 of the second period to pull away to a 6-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday night and a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference final.

Evgeny Kuznetsov and Lars Eller each had a goal and two assists. Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson had a goal and an assist apiece.

Devante Smith-Pelly and Brett Connolly also scored for the Caps, who took the first two games of the best-of-seven matchup on the road. Since 1974-75, teams that take a 2-0 lead in the conference final or semifinal have a series record of 39-2 (95.1 percent).

Game 3 is Tuesday night in Washington.

Braden Point and Steven Stamkos had early power-play goals for Tampa Bay, which rebounded after falling behind on Wilson’s goal 28 seconds into the game.

Winning a Stanley Cup isn’t meant to be easy, something that even the novice hockey fans in Las Vegas now surely understand.

No need to tell it to the Washington Capitals. They’ve spent 43 seasons chasing the elusive Cup, only to find an expansion team – of all things – in the way of finally ending the drought.

The battle for hockey supremacy heads to the nation’s capital all tied up 1-1 after a pair of games as entertaining as anything on the Las Vegas Strip. The goals keep coming and so do the hits, including one Wednesday night on Evgeny Kuznetsov that both knocked him out of the game and seemed to wake Washington out of its daze.

Their top playoff scorer out, the Caps rallied for three straight goals that stopped – at least for a moment – a team that has been virtually unstoppable throughout the playoffs.

”It galvanized us as a group,” Caps coach Barry Trotz said. ”I think it might be a turning point for us.”

On a night when Alex Ovechkin scored the first Stanley Cup Final goal of his 13-year NHL career to give the Caps a lead they somehow managed to hold onto even while being outplayed and outshot by the Knights in the third period, Washington won a final-round game for the first time ever to make the flight back home a lot sweeter.

For the Capitals it means service held, with the next two games in far friendlier confines at home.

For the Knights, it was a golden opportunity gone awry.

They were 7-1 in the playoffs at home Quincy Wilson Jersey , 11-1 overall when scoring the first goal. So when James Neal scored barely eight minutes into the game, the party was on.

And then, suddenly, it was off. At least for now.

Credit some of that to the resilience of the Caps, who were down a goal when Kuznetsov was knocked out of the game. Give a tip of the hat to Ovechkin, too, who scored the go-ahead goal in the second period.

But when the story of this Cup Final is finally written it may hinge on a hit by Brayden McNabb on Kuznetsov as he had the puck along the boards late in the first period. McNabb slammed into Kuznetsov with a high check and Kuznetsov immediately bent over holding his arm with what appeared to be a wrist injury.

Another team might have folded in front of the raucous crowd of 18,702. But the Caps have been resilient all the way through the playoffs, and this game was no exception.

”It was all about commitment. We blocked shots and played for each other,” forward Nicklas Backstrom said. ”It’s good to win and go back to Washington.”

On a 98-degree day in Las Vegas, the action on the ice was as hot as the weather outside. The Knights dominated play at times and outshot the Caps 39-26, but could not deliver on a 5-on-3 power play in the scoreless third period.

When Alex Tuch was denied on a spectacular stick save with 1:59 to play by Braden Holtby, the Knights would not be lucky on this night in the biggest game of chance on the Strip. Their Game 1 win, after all Nate Orchard Jersey , included the Caps’ Lars Eller missing a wide-open net from point-blank range in the final minutes.

”To me it was the hockey gods evening it up from the last game,” Trotz said. ”Once he made that save I knew we were going to win the game.”

Las Vegas pulled out all the stops to make the first two games as memorable off the ice as they have been on the ice. The Imagine Dragons – a Vegas Born group – sang just before the puck dropped and a flyover by the Air Force’s latest F-35 jets shook the building, as did the applause later between periods when the pilots appeared in front of the Knight’s faux castle to cheer the team on.

But just as Game 1 seemed to shift in the Knights’ favor after Jonathan Marchessault was knocked to the ice on what appeared to be a late hit by Washington’s Tom Wilson, this game seemed to turn on that hit by McNabb with the Knights up 1-0.

Not only did Washington score three straight goals, one of them came from the player who must be spectacular if the Capitals are forced to play without Kuznetsov for any length of time in the finals.

Ovechkin has toiled for the Capitals since being picked first in the 2004 draft, but had never played in a Stanley Cup Final until Game 1 – and never scored in one until Wednesday.

”He’s the heart and soul of this team,” Washington defenseman John Carlson said. ”He does so much and doesn’t get credit. We love him to death. He’s our leader and it’s nice to see him get that big goal for us.”

For the Knights it was a rare whiff in a season like no other. They’ve been one of the great stories in sports, an expansion team in its first season playing for the championship of the NHL.

But every great story needs a great ending, and for the Knights to write one they’re now going to have to win at least one game on the road.

”It’s the Stanley Cup final, it’s little things,” said Knights forward Erik Haula. ”Nobody said it’s gonna be a 4-0 series. It’s gonna be ups and downs. We’ve been here before, we’ve been good on the road. Just put this behind us, just learn from your mistake.”

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis says the Saints plan to have an empty chair in the draft room at team headquarters in honor of their late owner.

Tom Benson Bruce Ellington Jersey , a New Orleans native who bought the Saints in 1985, died on March 15 at age 90.

His wife, Gayle, now controls both the Saints and the NBA's New Orleans Pelicans, which Benson bought in 2012.

Loomis says Benson would have been excited about his sports businesses. Benson's horse, Lone Sailor, is slated to run in the Kentucky Derby and the Pelicans are in the second round of the playoffs after sweeping Portland in the first round.

Loomis says the Saints miss Benson and will be thinking about him on draft night.

— Tavon Austin never really had a fresh start with a new coach in Los Angeles because of a wrist injury that plagued him and a hamstring that popped before the last of five disappointing seasons with the Rams.

The eighth overall pick in the 2013 draft believes the opportunity has arrived through a trade to the Dallas Cowboys and the health that Austin hoped would come with it. Having something to prove is nothing new for the 5-foot-8 hybrid receiver/returner/runner.

“There’s always going to be a chip on my shoulder, No. 1 because I’ve always been small Patrick DiMarco Jersey ,” Austin said. “I had the same thing coming out, when I went No. 8. So the chip’s always going to be there regardless. But last year was a little hard, my injury and I didn’t get a fair chance over there.”

At first, Austin really didn’t know what to make of the draft-day deal that sent a sixth-round pick to LA. He had largely been a spectator when the Rams ended a 12-year playoff drought in the first season under offensive-minded coach Sean McVay.

Austin’s first conversation with owner Jerry Jones boosted his spirits, and he later told reporters he was close to a recovery from ligament damage in his left wrist. He hasn’t missed a day at training camp as part of a revamped group of targets for quarterback Dak Prescott.

While he played in all 16 games for the NFC West champions with nine starts, Austin had just 13 catches for 47 yards. Most of his work was as a runner (59 carries, 270 yards and his only touchdown). Most of his time was spent on the bench.

“Last year was the first time I had hit rock bottom dealing with an injury and the media bashing me saying I couldn’t do it,” said Austin Zach Laskey Jersey , who had 1,689 yards and 12 touchdowns receiving and 1,238 yards and nine TDs rushing with the Rams, who were in St. Louis when they drafted him.

“But I stayed true to myself and I knew what happened to me. I wasn’t a person to cry or point fingers or find any sympathy. If I went out there, I went out there. I thought I was ready, so that’s what it was.”

Austin tries to stay out of the spotlight after practices at camp, only occasionally stopping for interviews. The 28-year-old is soft-spoken and reserved, but quick with a smile once he gets to talking.

The Cowboys signed a pair of free agents in Allen Hurns and Deonte Thompson Ibraheim Campbell Jersey , dumped franchise touchdown receptions leader Dez Bryant in a cost-cutting move and drafted Michael Gallup in the third round, a day before the trade for Austin.

The change of scenery offered Austin the rare chance to fill a leadership void despite being new to Dallas. Not only are the Cowboys likely to have four new receivers on the 53-man roster, they have a new coach at the position as well.

“He’s that veteran guy that I don’t know that I’ve really had that I can say, ‘Hey, get them to do this,'” receivers coach Sanjay Lal said. “Because even in the walkthrough, he’s working through his footwork, he’s sinking his hips Bruce Smith Jersey , which is how you build muscle memory. Don’t waste these reps.”

The way Austin sees it, he didn’t get Lal’s attention by doing anything unusual.

“I’ve never been a captain of a team,” Austin said. “But people always listen just because of my work ethic. When I’m out there just talking, I’m having fun and No. 2 just competing. It’s just in me. I definitely will take the role on being in leadership.”

He’ll also take the role of coming out of the backfield — assuming that happens at some point. With almost as many carries (184) as catches (194) in his career, Austin figures to remain a hybrid back. The Cowboys just haven’t shown much of the backfield component in camp.

“You can call him whatever you want to call him,” coach Jason Garrett said. “He’s obviously very quick. He’s very fast. We’re comfortable lining him up as a receiver outside or inside and certainly in the backfield as well. He’s done all those things.”

Now Austin gets to try them with that elusive fresh start.

Harden was the league’s top scorer on a Rockets team that had the NBA’s best record, giving him a strong chance to finally capture the MVP award after finishing as the runner-up twice.

The Rockets walked away with Coach of the Year for Mike D’Antoni and Sixth Man of the Year for Eric Gordon last year at the inaugural NBA Awards. Gordon has a chance to repeat, while center Clint Capela is one of three finalists for Most Improved Player.

— Suddenly, football is fun again for Eric Ebron.

He’s smiling and shouting, celebrating scores and making big plays look routine at training camp. Inside the Colts‘ tight end meeting room, teammates hear him asking questions and offering suggestions, virtually certain Ebron will play a prominent role in Indianapolis’ new offense.

It’s everything Ebron wanted — a second chance to showcase his skills and finally live up to the hype surrounding him when he entered the NFL.

My deal is to just take it to the next level Eric Ebron Jersey ,” Ebron said shortly after signing with the Colts in free agency. “At this place, I have a new start, I have a new finish. I have a new rep and that alone means a lot.”

Ebron thought he could have achieved more in Detroit.

So did the Lions, who drafted the North Carolina product with the No. 10 overall pick in 2014.

They believed the Ebron’s 6-foot-4, 253-pound frame and 4.6-second time in the 40-yard dash made him a nightmarish matchup for opponents and figured Ebron could stretch the field down the middle and open up the outside for Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate.

Instead, Ebron’s reputation was damaged by injuries and a perceived propensity for dropping passes.

He struggled with a pulled hamstring as a rookie, missed two games the next season with a strained knee and three games in 2016 with a bruised knee and sprained ankle. Last year, he missed most of training camp with a pulled hamstring but finally managed to play in all 16 games for the first time in his career.

Ebron’s stats weren’t bad once he got started: 47 receptions for 537 yards and five TDs in 2015, 61 catches for 711 yards with one TD in 2016 and 53 catches for 574 yards and four TDs in 2017. They just weren’t the mind-blowing numbers everyone anticipated when he was a hot-shot prospect.

So the Lions decided to let a frustrated Ebron test free agency rather than exercise their fifth-year option.

Turns out, a change of scenery could be the perfect remedy to jump start Ebron’s career.

Colts tight ends coach Tom Manning convinced Ebron he’d start with a clean slate and a coaching staff that values tight end mismatches. It was an offer too good to pass up.

“Tom had so many little stats and tapes put together and it is about treating him (Ebron) the right way Deonte Thompson Jersey ,” offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni said. “He is a phenomenal talent so we would be foolish not to want him on our team. But it definitely helps having guys that know how to recruit.”

The Colts insist Ebron could still become the player the scouts projected.

He’s only 25 years old and provides Luck with another critical option alongside Pro Bowl receiver T.Y. Hilton and Pro Bowl tight end Jack Doyle.

And, of course, Ebron took note of just how creative coach Frank Reich was last season as offensive coordinator for Super Bowl champion Philadelphia.

He’s not lobbying yet to throw a pass to Luck, like tight end Trey Burton did in the Super Bowl — though nobody would put it past the fun-loving, energetic newcomer.

But he should fit in nicely with a deep positon group that starts with Doyle and includes veteran Erik Swoope and possibly promising youngster Ross Travis, at least until running back Robert Turbin returns from his four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

“We really complement each other extremely well, to be honest, more than I even expected as we came in here,” Doyle said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun working with him. It’s going to be an advantage for us both.”

Ebron believes this offense will help him, too Demaryius Thomas Jersey , which is why the season-opener, Sept. 9 against Cincinnati, can’t come soon enough.

“I just bring a little bit more versatility to the offense and I do a couple things a little bit different (than Doyle),” Ebron said. “Me and Jack are here to work side by side and I think that’s going to be something to really watch and something that’s exciting that I’m excited for. I’m sure the coaches are, too.”

Notes: Doyle (personal reasons) was one of a handful of players who missed Tuesday’s practice. Left tackle Anthony Castonzo and Denzelle Good, who is battling to start at right tackle, both sat out for a second straight day with hamstring injuries. … Also out were rookie defensive end Tyquan Lewis (foot), cornerback Chris Milton (hip), center Deshawn Bond (concussion protocol). Right guard Matt Slauson was given an extra day of rest.

When Yu Darvish met with Theo Epstein and other Chicago Cubs officials last December in the Dallas area Ramik Wilson Jersey , the Japanese pitcher liked what he heard.

”The Cubs really stood out, and everyone was sincere at the meeting,” Darvish said Tuesday through a translator after finalizing a $126 million, six-year contract.

Darvish gets $25 million this year, $20 million in 2019, $22 million in each of the following two seasons, $19 million in 2022 and $18 million in 2023. He can opt out of the deal after the 2019 season and become a free agent again.

His approval is needed for any trade through 2019. After that, he can list 12 teams he cannot be dealt to without his consent.

Darvish joins a rotation that includes Jon Lester, Kyle Hendricks, Jose Quintana and Tyler Chatwood, who agreed to a $38 million, three-year contract in December.

”Yu was our primary target,” said Epstein, the Cubs’ president of baseball operations. ”It’s a great day for the Cubs organization to welcome a pitcher of this caliber. He is probably the pre-eminent strikeout pitcher of our generation. We are getting him at a wonderful point in his career where he has matured and is ready to go out and do some special things Kenny Golladay Jersey , with the World Series being his top priority.”

A four-time All-Star, Darvish finished last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, helping them knock out the defending champion Cubs in the playoffs to reach the World Series. The 31-year-old Japanese right-hander is expected to take the rotation spot of Jake Arrieta, who became a free agent.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Notre Dame’s president ripped the NCAA’s decision to deny the school’s appeal to restore 21 vacated football victories from an academic misconduct violation, saying the association ”perverted” the notion that universities determine how they police academics.

The NCAA denied Notre Dame’s appeal Tuesday, wiping off the books all 12 wins from the Fighting Irish’s 2012 national championship game run under coach Brian Kelly.

In a letter to Notre Dame alumni, University President Fr. John Jenkins says the penalty was unprecedented considering who was involved in the misconduct, and the school was being punished for rigorously enforcing its honor code. He called the ruling unfair, referencing the recent North Carolina case in which the NCAA did not punish the school after an investigation of athletes taking irregular courses.

The appeals committee was not swayed and upheld the penalty passed down in November 2016 by the committee on infractions.

Notre Dame agreed to accept certain NCAA findings and acknowledged cheating involving several football players and a student athletic trainer, but appealed only the penalty that vacated victories.

NFL

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Frank Reich did some of his most memorable work in relief.

He engineered the biggest comeback in NFL playoff history while pinch-hitting for Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly. He orchestrated the second-largest comeback in college football history after spending three years as Boomer Esiason’s understudy. Heck, he even won a Super Bowl with a backup quarterback.

So when the Indianapolis Colts offered Reich a chance to be their second choice as head coach, the super sub figured it was the perfect it.

”The backup role has suited me well in my career,” Reich joked at his introductory news conference at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Reich inherits a team that went 4-12 in 2017, missed the playoffs for the third straight year and was desperately trying to remove an embarrassing stain following last week’s announcement that New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels would not take the Colts’ job.

This time Peyton Manning Jersey , team owner Jim Irsay made sure the Colts weren’t caught off-guard again. Shortly after team officials confirmed the deal, the team posted a photo on Twitter of Reich signing a five-year deal at Irsay’s house.

WESTMINSTER DOG SHOW

NEW YORK (AP) – Flynn the bichon frise won best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club, a choice that seemed to surprise almost everyone in the crowd at Madison Square Garden.

Fans who had been loudly shouting for their favorites fell into stunned silence when judge Betty-Anne Stenmark announced her decision.

No matter, the white powder puff was picked and walked off as America’s top dog.

Guided by expert handler Bill McFadden, Flynn beat out Ty the giant schnauzer, Biggie the pug, Bean the Sussex spaniel, Lucy the borzoi, Slick the border collie and Winston the Norfolk terrier.

”It feels a little unreal,” McFadden said. ”I came in expecting nothing except hoping for a good performance, and I think I got it.”

Underdogs and upsets are way more than norm on the green carpet of the Garden – inside dog fanciers indeed fancied Flynn, but the people sitting in the stands were obviously pulling for other dogs.

Ty came into this competition as the nation’s No. 1 show dog last year and finished as the runner-up. He endeared himself to the crowd by jumping up and putting his front paws around handler Katie Bernardin after winning the working group earlier in the evening. Slick and Lucy also drew applause.

Nikita Kucherov reached a personal milestone and helped the Tampa Bay Lightning move closer to clinching the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Kucherov became the second player in the NHL to reach 100 points this season, and the Lightning took a two-point lead in the Atlantic Division by beating the Buffalo Sabres 7-5 Friday night.

Kucherov scored in the first period and got his 100th point assisting on Dan Girardi’s goal 1:04 into the second that gave Tampa Bay a 4-2 lead.

”It’s something special,” Kucherov said. ”I’ll definitely remember it the rest of my life.”

Edmonton’s Connor McDavid tops the league with 106 points. According to the NHL Cody Parkey Jersey , this is the first season since 2009-10 with multiple 100-point players.

The Lightning got two goals from Anthony Cirelli, while Yanni Gourde, Brayden Point and Victor Hedman also scored. Alex Killorn had three assists and Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 27 shots.

Tampa Bay can wrap up the division title and the best record in the East with a win in its season finale Saturday night at Carolina, or a loss by second-place Boston in either of its final two games.

”Is there anything else that needs to be said?” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. ”Win a hockey game, win the division.”

The Lightning played their second consecutive game without center Steven Stamkos (lower-body injury), who is expected to be back for the playoffs.

Casey Mittelstadt and Alexander Nylander each got his first NHL goal for the last-place Sabres. The Elias Sports Bureau says it was first time two Buffalo players got their first goals in the same game since May 3, 1995, when Curtis Brown and Wayne Primeau accomplished the feat.

Jason Pominville, Jordan Nolan and Kyle Okposo also scored for Buffalo, and Chad Johnson had 27 saves.

”We made too many mistakes,” Mittelstadt said.

After Girardi scored, Buffalo got goals from Pominville, Nolan and Okposo, during a power play Dominique Easley Jersey , to go ahead 5-4 after the second period.

The Lightning rallied on third-period goals 47 seconds apart by Cirelli (6:15) and Point (7:02) in taking a 6-5 advantage. Hedman added an empty-netter.

”We didn’t play well in the second and came back in the third, and played the right way,” Kucherov said.

Sabres center Jack Eichel called the blown lead ”frustrating.”

”I thought, maybe, we got a little passive,” Eichel said.

The teams combined for five goals in the opening 9:40 of the game. Gourde, who put Tampa Bay up 3-2, set team records for goals (25) and points (64) by a rookie.

Cirelli and Kucherov also had first-period goals for the Lightning, while Mittelstadt, on the power play, and Nylander scored the Buffalo goals.

NOTES: Gourde’s goal was his first in 14 games. … This was the 22nd time in 81 games that Buffalo (16-1-5) led after two periods.

UP NEXT

Sabres: Close out the regular season Saturday night at Florida.

Lightning: Will look to extend their franchise-record breaking road win total to 26 against the Hurricanes.

The woman whose face was bloodied in a home invasion at a home owned by Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy says her injuries are healing Johnny Unitas Jersey , though she is still having emotional difficulty dealing with what happened a month ago.

Delicia Cordon wrote, "mentally, is still a battle," in posting a message on her Instagram account on Friday.

Cordon is McCoy's ex-girlfriend, and wrote she will continue to fight for justice to be served, and added: "NO ONE deserves what my cousin and I endured."

Cordon was injured after being attacked by a man who entered the home in suburban Atlanta in the early hours of July 10. Her lawyer said Cordon sustained bruises and was struck in the face multiple times by a gun when the man attempted to take bracelets off her wrist.

Police in Milton, Georgia, have no update on their investigation.

McCoy has denied involvement in the home invasion, and says he had no direct contact with any of the people involved in months before the home invasion.

Court records show McCoy began eviction proceedings against Cordon on July 3, 2017.

Cordon has since moved out of the home Lamar Miller Jersey , though an eviction hearing is still scheduled for Tuesday.

Her attorney, Tanya Mitchell Graham, did not reply to a phone and email message seeking comment.

Buchholz (2-1) retired his first 11 batters before Starling Marte doubled down the right-field line with two out in the fourth inning. Despite throwing just 53 pitches, he was pulled after experiencing tightness in his left side.

The injury occurred on a swing in the fifth. Buchholz called the early exit ”more precautionary.”

David Peralta hit a two-run homer for Arizona, and John Ryan Murphy also went deep. Brad Boxberger worked the ninth for his 17th save.

Pirates right-hander Trevor Williams (6-5) allowed three runs in six innings.

CARDINALS 8, BREWERS 2

U.S. Alpine director Patrick Riml is leaving his role after seven seasons and following a Winter Olympics in which the women’s side accounted for all three medals.

Riml joined the ski squad in 2001 and became the women’s coach two years later Calvin Johnson Jersey , helping with the development of Julia Mancuso and Lindsey Vonn. He left in 2008 to join Team Canada before returning to the U.S. in 2011 as Alpine director.

U.S. ski and snowboard chief of sport Luke Bodensteiner credited Riml with leading ”some of the most successful teams in our history.”

At the Pyeongchang Olympics, Mikaela Shiffrin earned a gold and silver, while Vonn captured a bronze. Riml called the men’s performance in South Korea ”disappointing” and acknowledged the team had to rebuild before the Beijing Games in 2022.

After Jared Goff tipped back his hard hat and swung his arm a few times to get loose, he grabbed a football and tossed a high-arching spiral straight into the arms of an excited construction worker on an upper deck.

The Los Angeles Rams' franchise quarterback has already completed his first few passes inside his team's palatial new stadium two years before it opens.

Although the multibillion-dollar new home of the Rams and Chargers is currently a dusty construction site with a whirlwind of activity, Goff and his teammates feel confident it will be well worth the wait after getting their first tour Thursday.

"Even flying over it, you can't truly understand how big it's going to be until you get down here and look at it Bob Lilly Jersey ," Goff said, gazing wide-eyed from the future playing field way up to the top reaches of the arena. "It's exciting. You hope the years go by fast."

Rams coach Sean McVay canceled the final practice of the defending NFC West champions' mandatory minicamp and loaded his players and assistants onto buses for a drive from Thousand Oaks to Inglewood.

In safety vests and personalized blue hard hats complete with Rams horns, they got an up-close look at the progress on owner Stan Kroenke's stadium project, now a steel-and-concrete shell rising out of a massive hole dug at ground level on the former site of the Hollywood Park racetrack.

This stadium project is widely thought to be the most complicated and most expensive in sports history, and the main 70,240-seat arena is on track to open in the summer of 2020. When the surrounding complex eventually opens its shops Sam Martin Jersey , office buildings and innumerable additional features, the Rams and Chargers will be working in a new Los Angeles-area landmark.

"It's amazing to see all the great work that they're putting in for us to come out here and hopefully have lots of success and wins in the years to come," said Ndamukong Suh, the Rams' new defensive tackle.

"Ultimate respect for all the hard work that's going in at this stage. I can imagine how much hard work and organization the GCs (general contractors) have to deal with. More power to them."

Suh was a construction management major at Nebraska, so he took a particular interest in the staggering number of workers and companies combining their efforts to complete the labyrinthine project in time for its two teams to play the 2020 season.

The stadium also will host Super Bowl LVI on Feb. 6, 2022 Tyrone Crawford Jersey , and college football's national championship playoff game in January 2023. The stadium intends to bid heavily for the next available Super Bowl as well, pursuing the game for 2026 or 2027.

Other events arriving in the next decade alone include expected matches for the 2026 World Cup and the opening ceremony at the 2028 Olympics. The stadium has a clear roof in sunny Southern California partly because of its intention to host a men's Final Four, which hasn't been held in California since 1975.

But the stadium's main tenants are Los Angeles' two NFL teams, and they can already sense a brewing home-field advantage in this remarkable setting.

The project's proximity to Los Angeles' main airport required extensive excavation to sink the playing field deep under normal ground level, already lending a momentous, larger-than-life feel to the stadium in its half-completed state.

"The roar is definitely going to be insane Josh Malone Jersey ," Suh said. "I look forward to it. We're 100 feet deep in the ground, so all the concrete, the steel and even the natural earth will keep everything boxed in."

Former Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien said he has attempted suicide Stephen Curry Jersey , hired prostitutes and suffers from persistent depression. Now, he’s wondering if he sustained brain injuries while playing football.

The 55-year-old former quarterback is worried about his future even as he revealed some lurid elements of his past.

”There were behaviors that were just bizarre,” Rypien said in an article published Friday in The Spokesman-Review newspaper and also broadcast on KHQ-TV of Spokane.

His wife, Danielle, said she has also worried about Rypien’s future.

”I remember thinking, `Oh my God, he’s going to end up in a home,”’ Danielle said. ”I didn’t want him running around the street with a shopping cart.”

Rypien was a record-breaking high school quarterback in Spokane and then a star at nearby Washington State. He was drafted by the Washington Redskins in 1986 and played until 2002.

Since then, he appeared outwardly to live a comfortable life in Spokane.

But he said that was not the case.

”My story is impactful because people see me in a different light. I want them to see me in an accurate light,” Rypien said. ”I’ve been down the darkest path. I’ve made some horrible, horrible mistakes. But I’ve given myself a chance to progress forward.”

Rypien, who led the Redskins to victory in the 1992 Super Bowl over Buffalo and was picked as the MVP, said he played organized football for 26 years and figures he suffered several concussions.

”People think you have to be knocked out to have a concussion,” Rypien said. ”There are hundreds of times you shake it off and get back in there. It’s all about the cumulative hits. That’s what cause brain damage.”

Rypien said he suffers from depression, anxiety and isolation. Outwardly social George Iloka Jersey , ”I can’t wait to get home and be alone,” he said.

A decade ago, his impulsive behaviors began to escalate; aggressiveness and verbal outbursts increased.

One day, Rypien left a 20-minute audio suicide message at home for Danielle to find. But he took no action.

Sometime later, it went beyond a message. Rypien swallowed 150 Advils and washed them down with a bottle of wine.

”It was the thought that people aren’t going to miss me,” Rypien said. ”I was shameful and guilty of poor decisions, shameful and guilty of being depressed all the time. I didn’t want to be around anymore.”

Danielle found him and poured hydrogen peroxide and activated charcoal down his throat to get him to vomit up the pills.

Rypien said he also used to patronize massage parlors in Spokane that were shut down in a police sting back in 2012. His name didn’t appear with the hundreds of other men listed as customers that were published for one reason: He didn’t use a credit card to pay for the services.

”Yes, I was part of this,” Rypien acknowledged, offering no further details. ”Again, I made some absolutely crazy mistakes. Terrible decisions. Poor judgment.”

Rypien has soured on football.

”I wouldn’t put any of my kids or grandkids in a football jersey,” he said.

The Rypiens believe now they know what caused Mark’s uncontrolled behavior and have found tools, if not solutions. They weathered the kind of storm that often tears families apart. But Rypien is worried about the future.

”I might get worse,” Rypien said. ”I’ve got strategies to get me through the next day, the next year Randy White Jersey , 10 years. But I don’t know.”

Information from: The Spokesman-Review, The NBA offseason has arrived, which means nothing will happen for the next four months other than a draft, three summer leagues, free agency, the creation of a new schedule, coaching hires, trades, roster reworkings and possibly movement toward letting high school graduates jump directly into the league again.

It all adds up to very little downtime.

There is no shortage of questions about what will happen this summer – leading off, of course, with yet another decision to be made by LeBron James about his future and where he’ll play next season as he resumes his quest for more championships.

Here are some non-James topics heading into the offseason:

KAWHI LEONARD

The mystery of the 2017-18 NBA season is the mystery of the offseason as well. Leonard played in only nine games for the Spurs this season while dealing with a leg injury, the specifics of which are a closely guarded secret even by San Antonio’s notoriously tight-lipped standards. He could get a supermax deal, he could get traded, he might still be hurt. But the Spurs – and the league – need answers, because he can change a lot of directions in a hurry.

COACHES

The vacancies in Detroit and Toronto should be filled soon. The Pistons might be best-served to hire Dwane Casey Charles Haley Jersey , who led the Raptors to the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference this season. This is a crucial hire for the Raptors, since whoever will be calling the shots next season will have a team that should be good enough to contend for the East title.

THE DRAFT

Arizona center Deandre Ayton will likely go No. 1 to Phoenix, which makes sense on a lot of levels. The intrigue really starts there. Does Vlade Divac use the No. 2 overall pick and bring Luka Doncic, the young Slovenian who has been talked about as a can’t-miss NBA star for some time, to Sacramento? What does Atlanta do at No. 3? Inevitably, someone will move up on draft night and that probably means an established player (or players) will be on the move.

GAMBLING

The Supreme Court ruling already has bets on games being placed in Delaware, and more states will be following suit soon. Expect the NBA to continue pushing for 1 percent of the action, which the league says is needed in part to cover what will be its new costs as far as protecting the integrity of the game and the players. It’s also unclear if injury reports will have to be more specialized in a betting world. Wouldn’t bettors have liked knowing LeBron James had a badly injured – he says broken – hand in Games 2, 3 and 4 of the NBA Finals?

OFFICIATING

The NBA knows fans, players and coaches aren’t thrilled with the level of officiating in the league right now. This will absolutely be a big topic – maybe the primary topic – when the board of governors meet in Las Vegas next month. Also, there will be a challenge-flag-type item tinkered with during summer league games; it won’t be a red cloth like in the NFL, but the concept will be the same as the league studies whether something like that should be added.

THE LAKERS

Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka should have about $62 million in cap space to go shopping with when free agency opens July 1 – including for James, meaning the Lakers could get transformed and become a playoff team again in a hurry. Expect them to use the No. 25 pick in the draft on a 3-point shooter, since no team can surround James with enough of those.

CHRIS PAUL AND PAUL GEORGE

Again, like so many other topics Lamar Miller Jersey , the futures of Chris Paul and Paul George will probably have some impact on whatever James decides to do this summer – or vice versa. Paul wants a max contract, and if his hamstring didn’t pop late in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals he and the Houston Rockets may very well have been in the NBA Finals. George seemed to be hinting that he could stay in Oklahoma City, but is a Los Angeles native. It seems likely that either, or both, would try to align with James – but how?

THE PELICANS

Yes, the Pelicans. West semifinalists this season, New Orleans needs to decide what it wants to do with DeMarcus Cousins and Rajon Rondo. The Pelicans have already given coach Alvin Gentry an extension , and keeping either Cousins or Rondo – or both – to play alongside Anthony Davis might make New Orleans a sleeper pick in the West next season. Question is, will Cousins be full-go coming off his Achilles injury.

THE HEAT

Dwyane Wade has been talking about retirement, and there’s been no indication yet if he’s anywhere near a decision. Miami is in a tough situation on the cash front – Hassan Whiteside, Tyler Johnson, Goran Dragic and James Johnson will make nearly $78 million themselves next season – and the Heat wants to find a way to keep Wayne Ellington. What will Wade do? And if he stays, how much can the Heat pay him? Or do they make big trades and add some star power?

THE KNICKS

Two questions for the Knicks to figure out: Will they allow David Fizdale the time he needs to build the team he wants? And what will they do with Kristaps Porzingis this season? Give Fizdale time, and he’ll win in New York. But rushing Porzingis back off ACL surgery could be a most unnecessary risk for a team that isn’t going to contend next season anyway.

 Mohamed Bamba Jersey

Former NFL player Spencer Paysinger is drawing on his high school days living between two worlds for his first major Hollywood project.

Paysinger grew up in economically depressed South Los Angeles Michael Gallup Jersey , but he attended Beverly Hills High School, where he captained the football team in the wealthy enclave. The culture shock he experienced is the basis for "All American," debuting Oct. 10 on the CW.

"I definitely had a gang influence with friends and family growing up in South Central, and people might think that Beverly Hills definitely shielded me from some problems. But in actuality, it only opened up a whole new can of worms," Paysinger told a TV critics' meeting on Monday.

"Just dealing with kids with affluence, kids with drug problems and having their parents not be there for weeks on end because they're vacationing or they're doing big business. Just dealing with that contrast was probably the biggest thing that I had to go through."

Paysinger commuted daily to high school as part of a program that brought students from other areas to Beverly Hills, where he had two uncles and an aunt who coached and taught there.

Spencer eventually attended the University of Oregon and won a Super Bowl title with the New York Giants, one of four NFL teams he played for before achieving his goal of retiring from the league no later than age 30.

The series shoots in some of Paysinger's old haunts in South L.A. Preston Brown Jersey , like a local park and the barbershop he has patronized since he was a kid.

"South Central's been portrayed so many different ways in the media for however long," Paysinger said. "But with this show, I definitely want to implant that family aspect of the community."

Producers hired a consulting firm that designs all of the football plays in the show, and consulting producer Paysinger wants to make sure the action is authentic.

"I don't want friends, I don't want family texting, emailing me saying, 'That's not it. They couldn't have converted on that,' " he said.

Paysinger isn't the only one with pro sports ties involved in the show. One of the writers is Jon Alston, who played five years in the NFL Kasen Williams Jersey , and retired Major League Soccer player Robbie Rogers is a producer.

TAMPA, Fla. — The Washington Capitals beat the Tampa Bay Lightning at their own game to open the Eastern Conference final.

Now Tampa Bay has to find a way to rediscover itself in Sunday’s Game 2 to avoid falling into a hole that might be too deep to climb out of in the quest to return to the Stanley Cup Final for the second time in four seasons.

Washington, meanwhile, looked like a team in control despite participating in the Eastern Conference final for the first time in the Alex Ovechkin era. The Capitals set the tone in the opening game of the best-of-seven series, which they will look to continue Sunday while once again expecting to be withou center Nicklas Backstrom. He has missed the past two games and remains day to day with a hand injury.

“I just think it’s been a real good commitment, attention to detail,” Washington coach Barry Trotz said. “All of those things. Just a team-wide commitment. I think we’re playing the full 200 feet that you need to play at playoff time and you’re getting the goaltending you need and you’re getting the commitment and you’re getting the work ethic and you’re getting the discipline and detail.

“All of those things combined, you have a chance every night if you do that.”

The Capitals, who haven’t been to a conference final since winning the Eastern Conference title in 1998 Gary Zimmerman Jersey , held the Lightning to 10 shots on goal through the first two periods as they controlled the game while building a four-goal lead.

“I think we just realized we just have to play our way,” said Ovechkin, who had a goal and an assist in Friday’s 4-2 victory. “It doesn’t matter which position we are, which round it is and you can see the effort in the guys. Everybody was all in and everybody was paying the price. … We tried to create a moment on our side and not give them life.”

The Capitals took the Lightning out of the game by not allowing Tampa Bay to utilize its speed on the forecheck, an area the Lightning were oftentimes dominant in the first two rounds against New Jersey and Boston. Instead, Washington slowed down the Tampa Bay attack through the neutral zone and when pucks got in deep the Capitals quickly transitioned the play up the ice.

“They turned pucks up quick, put pucks behind us and dictated the way the game was going to be played,” Lightning forward Chris Kunitz said. “That’s something that we had success doing to other teams. We have to raise our elevation of what we can do out there. But give them a lot of credit, they took Game 1 to us and we have to be better if we are going to be in the series.”

Tampa Bay has been in this situation before as recently as the last series Rod Smith Jersey , when it dropped Game 1 at home to Boston before winning four consecutive games to capture the series in five games. And since Jon Cooper has served as Lightning coach, Tampa Bay has dropped the first game of a series seven times in 11 tries. The Lightning went on to win four of those series, only losing the 2014 opening round series to Montreal and the 2015 Stanley Cup Final to Chicago.

In addition, the Lightning have won five consecutive Game 2s when losing the opening game.

“There’s no situation that we probably haven’t been in in the last couple years,” Tampa Bay captain Steven Stamkos said. “This is one we’ve been in before, so we just need to play better. There’s really nothing that we’re going to throw at them that they’re going to be surprised about. We just have to play better and we’re looking forward to that challenge.”
