NEW YORK (AP) The New York Islanders picked up a sorely needed win in their last game before the NHL’s Christmas break.

Mathew Barzal led the way.

Barzal scored three times and Jaroslav Halak made 38 saves Authentic Customized Buccaneers Jerseys , helping the Islanders beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-2 on Saturday.

Article continues below ...

It was the first career hat trick for the 20-year-old Barzal, who has 12 goals and 23 assists in his rookie season. Jordan Eberle assisted on each of Barzal’s goals, and Andrew Ladd helped on two of them.

”Their line was excellent,” Islanders coach Doug Weight said.

Barzal scored twice in the first period after Anders Lee got New York on the board 1:31 into the game. Barzal Cheap Customized Cincinnati Bengals Jerseys , a first-round draft by the Islanders in 2015, scored again at 11:22 of the third.

”Ebs gave me a couple of great passes and Ladder went in there and battled,” he said. ”It’s just awesome to get that kind of chemistry going and get a win.”

The Islanders (19-13-4) had dropped two in a row and four of five. Defense has been an issue of late, with New York allowing three or more goals in 10 of its first 11 games this month.

But Halak was able to smother the high-flying Jets Youth Tampa Bay Buccaneers Hats , who have one of the best records in the league. He allowed a first-period goal to rookie defenseman Tucker Poolman and a third-period score by Adam Lowry while improving to 10-8-2 on the season.

”We played hard. It’s a good two points for us,” the 32-year-old Halak said. ”I felt pretty good throughout the entire game.”

With Winnipeg’s Brandon Tanev in the penalty box for tripping, Lee picked up his 22nd goal of the season. Josh Bailey assisted on the score, extending his point streak to eight games.

Barzal made it 2-0 at 2:20 with a shot that eluded Jets goaltender Steve Mason. After Poolman responded with his first career goal Authentic Customized Seahawks Jerseys , Barzal restored New York’s two-goal margin with his 11th at 19:24.

”It was great to see him get the hat trick. He’s got composure at a young age.” Weight said. ”And it was great for our confidence to be up 2-0. That helped elevate our flow.”

New York’s Anthony Beauvillier added his fourth goal of the season at 15:01 of the third.

At 20-11-6, the Jets still have their best record heading into the Christmas break since they relocated from Atlanta to Winnipeg in 2011. The Jets were a league-best 9-3-2 in November but are 5-5-2 in December.

”We were behind it. When you get down two, you have a problem,” Jets coach Paul Maurice said. ”We weren’t good enough to win.”

The Jets will face the Islanders again on Dec. 29 in Winnipeg.

The Islanders are 4-6-2 this month. The only other December game they allowed less than three goals was a 3-1 win over Washington.

NOTES: The Islanders improved to 11-3-3 at home and 12-1-0 when scoring first. … The Islanders are 28-5-6 all-time at Barclays Center against Western Conference opponents. … The Islanders are 9-1-0 on Saturdays this season. … The Islanders announced before the game that defenseman Calvin de Haan will be sidelined indefinitely with an upper-body injury suffered in overtime against Los Angeles on Dec. 16. … Bailey has 36 assists and 46 points overall through 36 games. LAS VEGAS (AP) After his first two games with the Vegas Golden Knights in late February Customized Atlanta Falcons Jerseys , there weren’t many fans who were happy with Ryan Reaves.

He arrived from Pittsburgh and immediately made his presence known with six penalty minutes in a home-and-home series against Los Angeles, both losses. The Vegas faithful thought team chemistry was ruined.

”Ruin the whole team, yeah?” Reaves joked Tuesday as Vegas prepared for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final against Washington. ”I apologize to Vegas.”

Article continues below ...

Vegas wasn’t the only one he apologized to. Reaves immediately went to coach Gerard Gallant after those Kings games to acknowledge that while he didn’t necessarily agree with the penalties, he also would not be taking silly penalties and disrupt what Gallant and general manager George McPhee worked hard to build.

”He was up front, and he took responsibility, but I said, `Just play your game, that’s why we got you Cheap Tennessee Titans Hoodie , to play your game and work hard’ and he’s been excellent ever since,” Gallant said Tuesday. ”He doesn’t take penalties, he really doesn’t.”

Reaves believes it’s been his on-ice intelligence and hockey IQ that has made him an effective teammate over nine seasons in St. Louis, Pittsburgh and now Vegas, where he’s since become a crowd favorite.

”My fights have gone down every year,” Reaves said. ”I only had six this year and all within the first two or three months (with Pittsburgh). I think there’s always going to be physical play in this league, and as long as I can keep up and and be able to catch guys and do it in a way that’s not hurting the team, then yeah Cheap Customized New York Jets Jerseys , I think I got a spot here.”

Especially after scoring what may have been the biggest goals in franchise history.

In Game 5 of the Western Conference Final in his hometown of Winnipeg, Reaves scored the game-winning goal that sent the Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup Final. And in Game 1 against the Capitals on Monday, he scored the game-tying goal before linemate Tomas Nosek put the game-winner past Braden Holtby in a 6-4 victory that gave Vegas a 1-0 series lead.

”Playoff hockey you have to be a little smarter, you got to be a little faster, everything is kind of magnified,” Reaves said. ”I think at this time of the year the details have to be there for sure.”

Since Reaves was re-inserted into the lineup midway through the second round of the playoffs, the fourth line has clicked more often than not.

Shedding his overly aggressive tactics, Reaves has adapted to playing Vegas’ simple north-south game Cheap Customized Seattle Seahawks Jerseys , while learning how to make the right decisions and build chemistry with Nosek and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare. The trio is proving it can be just as important as the Golden Knights’ top line of William Karlsson, Jonathan Marchessault and Reilly Smith, and that has become extremely dangerous for teams to defend.

”I think we just try to outwork whoever we’re playing against,” Bellemare said. ”It won’t maybe work this well every night, but we get the payoff from hard work. Sometimes we can’t explain why suddenly everything clicks. But we are at the right spot at the right time and it worked for my wingers and me. Maybe your fourth line won’t change the game every single game, but when they do it sure helps.”

And while Nosek’s two goals in Game 1 against the Capitals extended his point streak to three games, he said it doesn’t matter who scores or tallies points, because it’s never been about individuals on the Golden Knights.

”That’s what we’ve done the whole year Youth Kansas City Chiefs Hats , 20 guys on the ice and off the ice,” Nosek said ”We support each other. On our (line), we just try to create some chaos in front of the net, go hard to the net and get some forecheck going, that’s how we roll, and it was good last night. It doesn’t matter who scored the goals either way, we are a team and victory is the most important thing.”

LOS ANGELES (AP) After a full month away from the Coliseum Youth Pittsburgh Steelers Hats , the Los Angeles Rams are returning home as a bona fide playoff contender.

With Jared Goff throwing touchdown passes and Aaron Donald wrecking opposing offenses, these exciting Rams (6-2) could be the next big thing on Hollywood’s sports landscape.

They’ve won three straight games to take the NFC West lead midway through the season, making serious progress toward their first winning season since 2003 and their first postseason berth since 2004.

Article continues below ...

But those three straight wins all occurred thousands of miles away from Los Angeles, where the Dodgers’ thrilling World Series run and the ever-popular Lakers’ new season understandably dominated sports conversation over the past month.

The Rams are back at the Coliseum on Sunday to face the injury-plagued Houston Texans (3-5), and LA fans can finally see what they’ve been missing.

”In LA, the one thing I’ve learned is this is a city that likes people that win,” Goff said. ”When you win, they come. And we have been winning Cheap Baltimore Ravens T-Shirts , so hopefully they’ll come.”

The Rams are big favorites in their return against the Texans (3-5), whose own playoff hopes are in trouble. With J.J. Watt and Deshaun Watson sidelined by injury and unproven Tom Savage likely starting at quarterback, the Rams have a solid opportunity to cement their status as an NFL power on the rise.

Doing something big at home would be an undeniable boost. The Rams are unbeaten away from LA this season, but just 1-2 at the Coliseum. They’ve only won twice in 10 regular-season games at their temporary home since moving back from St. Louis.

”It’s always good to get back home, but it’s more important to win when you get back,” Rams linebacker Alec Ogletree said. ”We realize we’ve got to show our fans what we’re all about.”

They’re about exciting football: With the NFL’s top-scoring offense, the Rams already have won more games and scored more points in the first half of this season than they managed in their entire 2016 homecoming season. Coach Sean McVay’s offense attracts most of the attention, but coordinator Wade Phillips’ defense has yielded just 11 points per game over the past four contests.

That could be daunting for the Texans Customized Minnesota Vikings Jerseys , who have lost two straight since their bye week and three of four overall. Watson’s knee injury is a crushing blow for Houston, but coach Bill O’Brien hopes Savage can improve on his understandably shaky start last week in a loss to Indianapolis.

O’Brien said his advice to Savage heading to the Coliseum will be to ”play loose. Play free. Let it rip. Go out there, have some fun. Don’t worry about anything other than making the right reads, getting us into the right play and let it rip.”

Here are more things to watch when these franchises meet for just the fourth time:

BIG CHUNKS: The Rams have one of the NFL’s best big-play offenses, while the Texans’ defense is yielding 5.6 yards per play, one of the league’s worst averages. That combination could bode well for a Los Angeles offense that has already scored 40 points in three games this season, including last week’s 51-point pasting of the New York Giants. But McVay remains wary of the Texans’ history of solid defensive play, despite the recent results. ”If you’re not Authentic Customized Raiders Jerseys , you get humbled in this league,” McVay said. ”That’s why you can’t overlook anybody, especially a very good team coming in here that’s won their division the last couple years.”

DOMINANT DONALD: Savage played at Pitt alongside Donald, the 2016 All-Pro who remains one of the NFL’s best defensive players. This game should have been a simultaneous showcase of Donald and Watt, but the Texans star is out with a broken leg after just five games. When asked if Donald was the NFL’s best defensive player, O’Brien showed proper respect and loyalty: ”We’ve got one that’s out right now that I think is the best defensive player in the league, but (Donald) is a great player. He’s a relentless player.”

MORE CHUNKS: Despite Watson’s absence, the Texans still have plenty of skill-position talent on offense Customized Chicago Bears Jerseys , including receiver DeAndre Hopkins – who has scored as many touchdowns (eight) as the Rams’ entire receiving group – and running back Lamar Miller. Houston has made 20 offensive plays of at least 25 yards this season, one of the NFL’s best totals. Los Angeles’ defense has improved markedly in its past few games, but Texans fans should have hope: The Rams gave up 39 points to winless San Francisco earlier this season.

SACK PARTY: Goff is wary of Texans linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, who has five sacks already this season. The Rams do their pass pressure by committee, with eight players recording at least two sacks this season.

BIG KICKS: Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein leads the NFL with 99 points in another standout season. Texans kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn is returning to the city where he played his college ball at UCLA.

BAD KLEINKIRCHHEIM Rashaad Penny Jersey Seahawks , Austria (AP) After a four-week break from racing, American standout Lindsey Vonn is returning to the Alpine skiing World Cup this weekend with an unusual mindset.

For the most successful female skier of all time, Vonn’s main priority at the first speed events of 2018 won’t be winning.

With only 40 days left until her season highlight, the Olympic downhill in Pyeongchang, avoiding injuries is all that matters.

Article continues below ...

”I feel solid but my focus this season is on the Olympics. So I am not going to risk anything this weekend,” Vonn told The Associated Press on Friday after taking part in a shortened training session.

She was worried because the snow on parts of the Karnten-Franz Klammer course was still too weak after heavy rain this week and mild temperatures.

”The top is good but the bottom is not safe to race,” she said.

Organizers swapped the program for this weekend by pushing back the downhill to Sunday and rescheduling a super-G for Saturday Youth Daryl Worley Jersey , as a downhill can be staged only after competitors have at least one training run on the entire course.

”I am also not sure why the super-G is first,” Vonn said. ”Considering the snow conditions, it would be better to do the downhill first but, again, I don’t know. We haven’t inspected the bottom part of the course so I am not really sure what the reason behind it is.”

Vonn said she would make her own decision about racing or not after checking the course on Saturday, saying she would rather sit it out ”if conditions aren’t good enough to run.”

Vonn badly injured her right knee landing in a patch of soft snow during the 2013 world championships, which ultimately ruled the 2010 Olympic downhill champion out of the Sochi Games the following year.

It explains the 33-year-old American’s cautiousness going into what likely will be her last Olympics.

Her season so far has been rather rough.

Trying to improve her ranking ahead of the Olympic giant slalom Mike Hughes Jersey Elite , she failed to qualify for the second run of the season-opening GS in Soelden, Austria, in October.

Focusing on the speed events since, she landed in the safety netting at full speed during the first downhill in Lake Louise in early December, and finished only 12th in another downhill the next day. She crashed again in a super-G on the third day of racing at the Canadian resort where she won 18 times in the past.

A week later, she jarred her back in a super-G in St. Moritz, Switzerland Armani Watts Jersey Chiefs , completing the race in pain in 24th place.

Vonn hasn’t raced since Dec. 16 when she earned her 78th career win at a super-G in Val d’Isere, France. The following day, she took part in the early morning inspection for another super-G at the resort but then decided against racing, citing a sore knee, and flew home.

”The last race in Val d’Isere I skied very well,” she said. ”It still wasn’t my best but I had a good block at home in Colorado. I was able to do a lot of condition training and got some GS and slalom in as well.”

Vonn practicing slalom underlined her ambition to start in the Olympic combined event as well.

”I feel good, definitely Kalen Ballage Jersey Dolphins ,” Vonn said, adding the knee was hampering her ”not more than usual. I feel decent.”

ST. PAUL Youth Mark Andrews Jersey , Minn. (AP) No team in the ultra-competitive Western Conference has made the playoffs more times in a row than the Minnesota Wild, with six straight appearances to share the current streak lead with the Anaheim Ducks.

That regular season consistency has only led, however, to April dissatisfaction. Ousted in five games by Winnipeg in their first-round series, the Wild were sent again to an early exit from the Stanley Cup tournament. They were shut out by the Jets in the last two contests and finished with a scoreless streak of 141:47.

”It’s really disappointing. I don’t think that’s indicative of the kind of team that we have. It was just a really tough night,” center Matt Cullen said after the 5-0 loss in Winnipeg on Friday. ”Obviously with our backs against the wall, I think we all expected more and hoped for more, and I think if we could do it all over again every guy would like to give more.”

Article continues below ...

There was no shame in being beaten by the Jets, a deeper Youth Christian Kirk Jersey , faster team with an exceptional goalie in Connor Hellebuyck that finished with the second-best record in the NHL in 2017-18. For the Wild, though, there’s an overarching theme of staying stuck at a good-but-not-great level since the franchise-altering signings of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter helped start this remarkable-but-unfulfilling run of making the playoffs every year with the two stars on the roster.

”We want more. We expect more from ourselves. We let another one slip away,” right wing Charlie Coyle said.

Here are some key angles to the end of the Wild’s season:

LOOKING BACK

The Wild are 2-6 in series and 15-29 in games in the postseason during the Parise-Suter era that began on July 4, 2012. The 17-year-old franchise’s only advancement past the second round remains the 2003 surge to the Western Conference finals, where the Wild were swept by the Ducks.

The postseason trouble encountered by the Wild used to be in the form of the Chicago Blackhawks, who eliminated them in 2013, 2014 and 2015. The Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in the first and third of those years. They lost in the first round in 2016 and 2017, though Youth Ronald Jones II Jersey , and failed to make the playoffs this spring for the first time in 10 years. So Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are no longer the problem.

Now Nashville and Winnipeg have taken the lead in the daunting Central Division, with the Predators taking the Presidents’ Trophy with the league’s best record one season after reaching the Stanley Cup finals. Six of the seven teams made the playoffs either last year or this year.

”We certainly believed that we could give these guys a real run for it even though nobody seemed to be giving us a chance,” goalie Devan Dubnyk said. ”We’re one play away each game. I know that’s easy to say, but it’s really how close it was besides tonight.”

BANGED UP

This year, in fairness, one of the hurdles to postseason success became the rare absence of Suter, who has long been one of the NHL’s most durable players as a puck-moving, tough-minded defenseman. His broken ankle diluted the blue line in the final week of the regular season.

Then Parise, whose late-season surge signaled he was all the way back from the back injury and surgery that kept him out for the first 39 games Youth Donte Jackson Jersey , was knocked out of action with a broken sternum suffered in Game 3 against the Jets.

”Every team has injuries, right?” captain Mikko Koivu said, adding: ”For sure that hurts, there’s no question about that. But we can’t go behind that.”

CULLEN MULLING

Matt Cullen, after winning the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017, put off retirement for another year and returned to his home-state team with 11 goals, 11 assists and valuable leadership at age 41. He wasn’t ready to address his future after Game 5.

”My only thought here the last while was getting it back home for Game 6,” Cullen said. ”So to be honest I don’t have an answer right now.”

QUIET COYLE

Not every forward will be productive in a playoff series, of course Ryan Jensen Jersey Elite , but the Wild were hurting without any goals or assists by three of their top-nine forwards: Coyle, Nino Niederreiter and Jason Zucker. Coyle, who had only 11 goals during the regular season, was especially ineffective against the Jets.

”Had plenty of chances to finish. I didn’t finish. Or the goalie came up big,” Coyle said. ”Whatever it is I didn’t get the job done. That hurts.”

The future is pretty simple for the Philadelphia Flyers if they get one point when they host the New York Rangers on Saturday afternoon.

They are in the playoffs.

Should they lose — depending on what else happens on Saturday and possibly Sunday — the Flyers could actually find themselves playing an extra game against the Florida Panthers Tuesday to see which team moves forward.

Article continues below ...

“It’s a great feeling Christian Kirk Jersey Cardinals ,” Flyers forward Michael Raffl told NHL.com Friday. “The fact that it comes down to the last game is even better. Stays exciting.”

Coming off Thursday’s 4-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes, the Flyers (41-26-14) occupy the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. They are one point behind the New Jersey Devils, who hold the first wild card, and the Columbus Blue Jackets, who sit third in the Metropolitan Division.

The Panthers are four points behind the Flyers, but have two games remaining, against the Sabres and Bruins. It is conceivable that by Sunday night Youth Byron Maxwell Jersey , the Flyers and Panthers could be knotted up even with the tiebreakers, thus forcing a playoff.

“Obviously you would have liked to have clinched by now, but if we win (Saturday) or get a point, we’re in,” defenseman Andrew MacDonald told PhilyNews.com. “We control everything. Obviously, we have to go out and get the job done. … The boys are looking forward to the opportunity.”

Goalie Brian Elliott, who got the win Thursday in his first game back from core-muscle surgery Byron Maxwell Jersey Seahawks , will start against the Rangers. Elliott made 19 saves in his first game since Feb. 10.

“I thought he did a real good job,” Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said. “It was good for him to get that game under his belt. I thought he played hard for his teammates and vice versa, and we got the good result.”

Sizzling Claude Giroux had a goal and an assist and has 16 points (five goals, 11 assists) during a nine-game point streak

Henrik Lundqvist will start Saturday for the Rangers (34-38-9), who will close out a season that saw a perennial playoff team slump badly before being broken up near the trade deadline.

The Rangers lost to the Islanders 2-1 on Thursday night and are 1-4-1 in their last six games, though they are a surprising 7-8-3 since the Feb. 26 trade deadline passed.

Ironically, the Rangers traveled to Philadelphia needing a win in the final regular-season game in 2010 to make the playoffs and lost in a shootout after Lundqvist made 46 saves in regulation.

“For us who were there Logan Paulsen Jersey Falcons , I think going into (Saturday), we want to play a really strong game, for ourselves and also for that reason,” Lundqvist told the New York Post. “They got a big win at a crucial time that time. We’re going to play a desperate and a really good team (Saturday).”

For coach Alain Vigneault, whose future is in question along with many of the players, Saturday is about finishing on a high note.

“At the end of the day, we’ve talked about doing our jobs right down to the end Johnny Townsend Jersey Raiders , since we’ve been eliminated, and that’s what we’re trying to do,” Vigneault told the Post. “We’re going to go to Philly and try to win a game.”

HOUSTON (AP) Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson wants more.

After setting two rookie touchdown records in a win over Cleveland on Sunday Wholesale Josh Allen Jersey , Watson wasn’t completely satisfied.

Watson threw for 225 yards and three touchdowns, becoming the first rookie in NFL history with at least three TD passes in three straight games, helping give the Texans the 33-17 victory.

Article continues below ...

Watson has thrown 15 touchdown passes this season, the most in NFL history by a rookie in a team’s first six games. It equals the number of TD throws Brock Osweiler had in 15 games last season.

”It’s pretty cool. It’s straight,” Watson said when told of the records. ”I should have had more. I missed some opportunities.”

The Browns lost their 16th in a row on the road.

Cleveland made yet another change at quarterback this week, benching rookie DeShone Kizer Adidas Nazem Kadri Jersey , who had thrown a league-high nine interceptions, for Kevin Hogan to make his first NFL start. The results were much the same as Hogan threw three interceptions to keep the Browns (0-6) winless and drop coach Hue Jackson’s record in Cleveland to 1-21.

Jackson said he didn’t consider benching Hogan at halftime despite his terrible first half.

”No. I made the decision I was playing Kevin for this game,” he said. ”I didn’t think that’d be fair to put DeShone into the game. I made a commitment to do this for the week. Good or bad.”

Jackson wouldn’t say who will start next week, but left the door open for Kizer’s return.

Johnathan Joseph had two interceptions, including one he returned for 82 yards to boost the Texans’ defense in their first game since J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus sustained season-ending injuries last week.

”I don’t why the guy kept throwing to him,” Jadeveon Clowney said when asked about Joseph’s interceptions. ”I don’t think he knew (any) better. (Joseph’s) been in the league like 12 Authentic Ender Inciarte Jersey , 13 years and not many people throw at him. The guy felt like he had to try him today and he made him pay twice.”

Watson threw TD passes to Will Fuller, Braxton Miller and DeAndre Hopkins as the Texans (3-3) set a franchise record by scoring at least 30 points for the fourth straight game.

”We know with the ball in 4’s (Watson’s) hands, anything’s possible,” Hopkins said.

The game was tied at 3 after both teams made field goals early when Watson connected with Fuller on a 39-yard touchdown pass late in the first quarter. That was Fuller’s third straight catch for a TD.

Joseph’s first interception return for a touchdown since 2014 came on Cleveland’s next possession, but the extra point kick failed to push the lead to 16-3.

Dylan Cole intercepted Hogan on the next drive, but Houston couldn’t convert.

Rookie D’Onta Foreman had a 39-yard run later in the second quarter to get Houston to the 2-yard line. Miller Authentic Randal Grichuk Jersey , a healthy scratch the past two weeks, grabbed a shovel pass from Watson and somersaulted into the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown and Ryan Griffin caught the 2-point conversion to make it 24-3.

Joseph grabbed his second interception late in the second quarter.

Browns quarterback woes have long been an issue, with Hogan becoming their 28th starter since 1999. But the longstanding problem seemed even worse on Sunday when Cleveland faced a quarterback that could have been playing for it. The Browns had the 12th overall pick in this year’s draft but traded it to the Texans, who used it to select Watson, a national champion at Clemson last season.

Hogan was 20 of 37 for 140 yards. He was flagged for intentional grounding in the end zone under heavy pressure from Benardrick McKinney to give Houston a safety in the third quarter.

Watson found Hopkins in the back of the end zone for 3-yard touchdown pass later in the third quarter to extend the lead to 33-3.

His only big mistake came when he threw an interception to Jason McCourty which he returned 56 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter. It was the first interception return for a touchdown in McCourty’s nine-year career.

Cleveland’s only offensive touchdown came late in the fourth quarter when Hogan’s 3-yard pass to Seth DeValve cut the lead to 33-17. Jason McCourty’s 56-yard pick-6 was the other Cleveland TD.

GARRETT’S GAINS

Defensive end Myles Garrett, the top overall pick in this year’s draft http://www.newyorkjetsteamonline.com/bryce-petty-jersey , got more extensive playing time in his second game after playing 19 snaps in his debut last week. Previously he was out with a right high ankle sprain. He had a sack on Sunday to give him a team-leading three this season.

He said he felt better than last week, but that he’s still dealing with the injury.

”There was some plays where I felt a couple of tweaks,” he said. ”I couldn’t bend the way I wanted to, couldn’t get as low, couldn’t turn. But for the most part I felt pretty good.”

CORTINA D’AMPEZZO http://www.denverbroncosteamonline.com/courtland-sutton-jersey , Italy (AP) A fast recovery prevented Lindsey Vonn from crashing into the safety netting and possibly compromising another Olympics.

Still, it wasn’t enough to preserve a victory.

Sofia Goggia of Italy won a World Cup downhill on home snow Friday after Vonn’s mistake.

Vonn was faster than Goggia midway down the Olympia delle Tofane course but had trouble landing a jump and slammed on the brakes to clear the next gate.

”The hill was really good today but obviously the light was not great,” Vonn said of the overcast conditions. ”I hit a rut funny and almost went into the net. But I recovered and I tried to take as much speed as I could but I unfortunately lost a lot of time and lost the win.

”But I still got second place, which is pretty outstanding all things considered. I have the speed and I know I’m skiing well so tomorrow is another chance, another opportunity. Hopefully I won’t be caught by that rut again.”

Goggia finished 0.47 seconds ahead of Vonn in second.

”After my ski performance I was not happy Mason Cole Jersey Elite , but it lasted and Lindsey made that mistake,” Goggia said. ”If that doesn’t happen she probably wins with a big advantage.”

It was the fourth victory of Goggia’s career and second straight after also winning a downhill in Bad Kleinkirchheim, Austria, last weekend.

Overall World Cup leader Mikaela Shiffrin finished third, 0.84 behind Wholesale Chad Thomas Jersey , in her first attempt at the Cortina downhill.

Shiffrin holds a massive 871-point lead ahead of Goggia in the overall standings, while Goggia leads Shiffrin by 49 points in the downhill rankings.

Julia Mancuso, another American standout, announced her retirement and bid the circuit goodbye by wearing a Wonder Woman suit during a casual run.

Slowed by worsening hip problems in recent seasons, Mancuso failed to qualify for next month’s Pyeongchang Olympics.

Mancuso will be remembered for her record at big events Colts Braden Smith Jersey , having won four medals at Olympics and five at world championships, despite having a small frame for a ski racer.

”In ski racing, for me it was always about having fun,” Mancuso said. ”And when I had fun success followed. … I hope my career can inspire others to just have fun, especially as an underdog.”

In the finish area Authentic Will Hernandez Jersey , teammates sprayed Mancuso with champagne.

Friday’s race was originally scheduled for Val d’Isere last month but was moved from the French resort because of poor conditions.

Another downhill is scheduled for Saturday, followed by a super-G on Sunday. Both races are big warmups for next month’s Pyeongchang Olympics.

Vonn missed the 2014 Sochi Games because of a right knee injury.

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Bryan Rust redirected a pass from Sidney Crosby 2:25 into overtime and Pittsburgh finished off a season sweep of Philadelphia.

The Flyers tied it on Sean Couturier’s goal with 43 seconds left in regulation, but the Penguins controlled the extra period. Rust ended it when he got his stick down in time to get a piece of Crosby’s pass from the top of the left circle and knock it by Petr Mrazek to give the Penguins their first sweep of Philadelphia since the 2006-07 season.

Crosby’s spectacular goal 17 seconds into the third period gave Pittsburgh a 4-3 advantage. Crosby held off Couturier high in the zone, skated to the left dot and ripped a wrist shot over Philadelphia defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere and Mrazek’s glove. Couturier exacted a bit of revenge when he knotted it late to assure the Flyers of at least a point.

Still, the Penguins pulled within three points of first-place Washington in the Metropolitan Division and moved two points clear of Philadelphia, which pulled into a third-place tie with Columbus.
