Alex Smith has been part of some embarrassing playoff defeats in Kansas City Kevin Faulk Jersey , including the Chiefs’ huge blown lead in Indianapolis several years ago and the nip-and-tuck loss to Pittsburgh last season.

None of them compares to Saturday night.

After leading the Chiefs to a 21-3 halftime lead over Tennessee, the veteran quarterback watched in horror as everything unraveled. Marcus Mariota led the Titans on three touchdown drives, Smith could not even manage to get his team a field goal, and the Chiefs were stunned 22-21 to end their season.

Perhaps even end Smith’s career with the Chiefs.

So when he was asked in a somber postgame news conference whether this was the most disheartening loss of his career, Smith was unequivocal: ”Yeah,” he said. ”Without a doubt.”

”You know, it felt like the opportunity we had in front of us, the talent we had – the group – when we play the way we’re capable of playing, yeah Alex Mack Jersey , the sky’s the limit,” Smith said. ”Tonight isn’t a good example of that. Not consistent enough. Didn’t come out and make the plays we needed.”

That has become a familiar refrain for the Chiefs in the playoffs.

Especially the games at Arrowhead Stadium.

Despite having one of the proudest traditions in the NFL, and their stadium having a certain mystique about it, the Chiefs are miserable when the postseason rolls around.

They haven’t won a home playoff game since January 1994, when Joe Montana was under center, and only two in their entire history.

If not for a road win over the Houston Texans a couple of years ago, the Chiefs would still be searching for their first postseason victory of any kind since that home win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

”Whenever you lose it always hurts, regardless of if it’s one point or 20 points. But to go down like this – it really hurts,” said Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson Mike Hull Jersey , one of the longest-tenured players in the history of the franchise.

”I’ve been playing this game for a long time and 21-3 at halftime, you win. And we didn’t. You’re good enough, you come out with that win.”

There were numerous plays that made this defeat particularly gut-wrenching.

In the first half, Johnson blitzed in a flash and sacked Mariota, who clearly lost the ball before he hit the ground. But the officials ruled the play was over, it could not be reviewed and the Titans had time for a field goal that wound up being crucial in a game where every point mattered.

”I thought that’s why we had replay and some of those things,” Smith said afterward.

In the second half, the Chiefs took umbrage with another whistle when the Titans scored the go-ahead TD on a pass to Eric Decker. The Titans went for a 2-point conversion.

Mariota was getting sacked when the ball popped out again. Frank Zombo picked it up and began running the other way for what would have been two points, giving the Chiefs the lead back with just over six minutes left in the game.

The whistle again had been blown Reshad Jones Jersey , and referee Jeff Triplette told a pool reporter Mariota’s forward progress had been stopped, allowing the Titans to retain the slimmest of leads.

”I don’t really have anything good to say,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said, ”so I’m just going to kind of stay away from any comments on those guys. I don’t want to get fined or whatever. It’s not worth it.”

The final frustration came as the Titans were trying to run out the clock. Derrick Henry coughed up the ball and this time no whistle was blown, so Johnson returned the fumble for a touchdown. The crowd went wild as fireworks popped over Arrowhead Stadium – until replays showed that Henry was down.

The officials gave the ball back to the Titans and this time they ran out the clock.

Along the way, the Chiefs lost All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce to a concussion and defensive tackle Chris Jones to an ankle injury, depriving them of emotional leaders on both sides of the ball.

The result was yet another heartbreak for a franchise that has known its share of them.

”Honestly we just didn’t come out ready to play in the second half, that’s what I’d say,” Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt said. ”Nobody likes losing and this one’s for real. We’re going home.”

RENTON Brandon Carr Jersey , Wash. (AP) — Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says linebacker K.J. Wright will miss at least a couple of weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this week, making it increasingly unlikely that he’ll be ready for the Sept. 9 opener at Denver.

Carroll said Wednesday that the surgery was successful. But when it came to Wright’s recovery, Carroll said, “They talked about a couple weeks; it was the most optimistic we could be.”

If Wright is unable to get healthy in time, rookie Shaquem Griffin would likely start. Griffin has been Wright’s primary backup throughout the offseason.

Carroll said Thursday’s preseason finale against Oakland would be important for Griffin.

“He’s a running and hitting guy. We aren’t worried about that. It’s just making sure he’s really playing the scheme really well and he’s really precise about all his fits and all that,” Carroll said.

A person with direct knowledge has told The Associated Press that the Buffalo Sabres have traded center Ryan O’Reilly to the St. Louis Blues.

The person spoke to the AP on Sunday on the condition of anonymity because the trade has not been announced. It was not immediately clear what other players were involved in the trade.

TSN.com first reported O’Reilly had been traded.

The move was completed before the Sabres were due to pay O’Reilly a $7.5 million contract bonus by the end of the day.

O’Reilly completed his third season in Buffalo since being acquired in a trade with Colorado, after which the Sabres signed him to a seven-year, $52.5 million contract. He’s a dependable, two-way forward, who set the NHL record by winning 1,273 faceoffs last year.

The Boston Bruins have added seven players on the first day of NHL free agency, including defenseman John Moore.

Moore is a 10-year veteran who spent the last three seasons with the New Jersey Devils. He got a five-year deal with an annual cap hit of $2.75 million.

General manager Don Sweeney also added goaltender Jaroslav Halak to back up Tuukka Rask. Forwards Joakim Nordstrom and Chris Wagner each got two-year deals. Defenseman Cody Goloubef and forward Mark McNeill got one-year, two-way contracts, and defenseman Axel Andersson was signed to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The Bruins were in the running for forward John Tavares Riley Dixon Jersey , who signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Sweeney says he was pleased to have been considered by the former New York Islanders captain, but wishes he had left the division.

5:30 p.m.

After losing John Tavares to Toronto, the New York Islanders have agreed to a four-year, $12 million deal with former Maple Leafs forward Leo Komarov.

The 31-year-old Komarov had seven goals and 12 assists in 74 games last season. For his career, he has 52 goals and 70 assists in 327 games over five seasons, all with Toronto.

Komarov will fill the agitator/penalty-killing role for the Islanders previously held by free-agent Nikolay Kulemin.

New York also re-signed defenseman Thomas Hickey to a four-year, $10 million deal.

Hickey is coming off a season in which he had a career-high 25 points in 69 games, finishing with five goals -one shy of his career high- and matching his best with 20 assists. He has 22 goals and 89 assists in 409 regular-season games, all with the Islanders.

4:25 p.m.

The Vegas Golden Knights have signed center Paul Stastny to a $19.5 million, three-year deal as part of a significant day in the free agent market.

The 32-year-old Stastny had 53 points last season plus 15 more in 19 playoff games with the Winnipeg Jets, who lost to Vegas in the Western Conference final.

The Golden Knights also signed defenseman Nick Holden to a $4.4 million, two-year contract and brought back tough-guy forward Ryan Reaves on a $5.55 million, two-year deal.

4:05 p.m.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed center Riley Nash to an $8.25 million Matthew Slater Jersey , three-year deal to replenish some of the depth they lost when Matt Calvert signed with Colorado.

The 29-year-old Nash had a career-high 41 points last season with Boston. He’ll count $2.75 million against the salary cap in Columbus.

3:40 p.m.

The Arizona Coyotes have beefed up their scoring punch, signing forward Michael Grabner to a three-year contract averaging $3.35 million per season.

The 30-year-old Grabner had 27 goals and nine assists in 80 games with the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils last season. The Austrian forward has scored 20 or more goals four times in nine seasons, including 27 each of the past two.

Grabner has 158 goals and 91 assists with five teams since being selected with the 14th overall pick of the 2006 draft by Vancouver.

3:25 p.m.

The Colorado Avalanche have added two free agents from the Columbus Blue Jackets, signing defenseman Ian Cole and forward Matt Calvert to three-year deals.

Cole gets $12.75 million and Calvert gets $8.4 million. The moves are general manager Joe Sakic’s latest attempts to try to improve on last year’s playoff appearance. The Avs traded for goaltender Philipp Grubauer at the NHL draft.

The 28-year-old Calvert had nine goals and 15 assists for the Blue Jackets in the regular season. The 29-year-old Cole had 20 points for Columbus and Pittsburgh, and he won two Stanley Cups with the Penguins.

3:10 p.m.

The New York Rangers have agreed to terms on an $8 million, two-year deal with restricted free agent forward Vladislav Namestnikov. The team announced the contract a few hours into the start of unrestricted free agency.

New York acquired Namestnikov from the Lightning at the trade deadline when it sent J.T. Miller and Ryan McDonagh to Tampa Bay. The 25-year-old forward had 44 points in 81 games with th Reynaldo Lopez had just walked in a run when Shin-Soo Choo came up with a chance to give Texas a lead while extending the longest on-base streak in the majors this season.

The White Sox right-hander recorded that key out , and Chicago responded with a five-run fifth inning that included Matt Davidson’s two-run double in a 10-5 victory over the Rangers on Sunday.

”You have to be confident in yourself every time, 100 percent,” Lopez said through an interpreter. ”Have confidence in your pitches, and execute your pitches and execute a plan. I think that was the key for me that inning.”

Avisail Garcia had four hits and Davidson and Jose Abreu drove in three runs apiece to help the White Sox avoid a sweep to start a 10-game road trip, their longest of the season. Davidson had his second straight three-hit game.

Choo extended the on-base streak to 42 games with an eighth-inning walk after going 0 for 4 against Lopez, including the strikeout looking with the bases loaded in a 2-2 tie to end the fourth.

Leading off as the designated hitter after missing a game with a strained right quadriceps that the club said will limit him defensively for a few weeks, Choo’s hitting streak ended at 12 games. The on-base streak is the third-longest streak in club history Tre'Quan Smith Jersey , and longest since 1995.

Lopez (4-5) made it through 6 1/3 innings in the boiling Texas heat – a first-pitch temperature of 97 degrees that climbed past 100 before the last of Lopez’s career-high 114 pitches. The right-hander allowed seven hits and two runs with six strikeouts.

”I didn’t feel tired in any moment of the game,” Lopez said. ”But right now, yes. Especially because today’s game, a day game with the heat, and I feel really tired.”

One-time Texas closer Joakim Soria pitched around two singles in the ninth and had three strikeouts in a five-out save. It was his 12th save of the season in his 14th consecutive scoreless appearance. It was also his first five-out save since 2009.

Five straight Chicago hitters reached with one out in the five-run fifth against Texas ace Cole Hamels, starting with ninth-hitting Adam Engel on a wild pitch after a strikeout.

Tim Anderson doubled, Garcia hit a run-scoring single and Abreu had an infield single before Davidson’s double off the bottom of the 14-foot wall in left field.

Garcia had two doubles and one of two triples for the White Sox, who started the day tied for second in the majors with 23 triples. Abreu’s RBIs were on a groundout, a triple and a sacrifice fly.

Hamels (4-7) gave up a season-high seven earned runs on nine hits, which tied the season high from his previous start. The left-hander matched a season low with five innings amid talk of a deadline trade with the Rangers in last place in the AL West.

”The heat’s the heat,” said Hamels, whose ERA in home starts went up to 5.83 while that number in day games ballooned to 7.53. ”It doesn’t really have any sort of effect on locating a pitch. I think it’s a lot of the times you just get into a rhythm or you get outside of your rhythm and you just don’t slow it down.”

GOING EXTRAS

There weren’t any homers while the teams combined for 15 runs and 25 hits. But there were nine extra-base hits, including five doubles by the White Sox. Joey Gallo had a two-run triple for the Rangers on a ball that was misplayed in the gap by Engel B.J. Hill Jersey , the center fielder, and Garcia, who was playing right.

SHORT HOPS

Rougned Odor reached all five times, a career high, with two walks and three singles for Texas. … Soria recorded his second save of at least four outs this season. … Hamels had at least seven strikeouts without a walk for the first time in almost two years. … Garcia’s four hits were a season high, and Abreu matched his best this year with three RBIs.

TRAINER’S ROOM

White Sox: LF Leury Garcia left after striking out in the fifth inning with a jammed finger on his left hand. He will re-evaluated Monday.

Rangers: Manager Jeff Banister was noncommittal on the next outing for LHP Martin Perez (right elbow). He’s had two straight scoreless rehab outings. Perez has been on the disabled list since April 30.

UP NEXT

White Sox: RHP James Shields (3-9, 4.29 ERA) is scheduled for the opener of a three-game interleague series in Cincinnati on Monday. He is 1-4 with a 5.97 ERA in six road games this season, including five starts.

Rangers: RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx (1-1, 3.57) is scheduled for the opener of a two-game series against Houston on Tuesday. He pitched five scoreless innings in a no-decision against San Diego on Tuesday.

”She’s got ice in her veins,” Dave Roberts joked before the game.

Eiko Roberts clapped and waved to the crowd before her son planted a kiss on her cheek and embraced her. They walked off the field with arms around each other.

”The biggest win was convincing her to say yes Donald Penn Jersey ,” Dave Roberts said, adding that his brother-in-law recently tutored his mother on throwing mechanics.

Vujnovich started all 16 games at left guard for the Colts last season Robert Quinn Jersey , but the fact that the team added guards Quenton Nelson and Braden Smith in the first two rounds of the draft makes for a pretty good review of how well he handled the job.

Vujnovich will likely be looking for work as a reserve this time around. There’s one less competitor for that role with Jack Mewhort announcing his retirement this week.

A look at where things stand in the NBA playoff picture Michael Pierce Jersey , with five days remaining in the regular season:

EAST UPDATE

The top two seeds are locked up: Toronto is No. 1 going into the Eastern Conference playoffs for the first time in franchise history, and Boston will open the playoffs as the No. 2 seed.

Everything else is unclear.

Philadelphia (49-30) now leads in the race for the No. 3 spot, passing Cleveland (49-31) by beating the Cavaliers 132-130 on Friday night. The 76ers, who haven’t been a top-three seed in the East since their run to the NBA Finals in 2001, would finish third if they end the season with wins against Dallas, Atlanta and Milwaukee.

The Cavaliers have two games left, both against New York. So if Philly slips even once, Cleveland could return to No. 3 by sweeping the Knicks.

Indiana (47-33) still has a chance at No. 3; to get there Eric Berry Jersey , the Pacers have to win out and have both the Cavaliers and 76ers lose out. That seems unlikely, and Indiana is probably heading for the No. 5 spot.

Miami, even after a bad loss in New York, controls its fate in the race for No. 6. Milwaukee is No. 7 for now, and Washington – a loser of four straight, including a head-scratcher against Atlanta on Friday – has slipped to No. 8.

WEST UPDATE

Five days left, five spots left to clinch, and six seeds left to decide.

A frantic finish is coming to the West.

Portland controls the race for the No. 3 seed Trent Murphy Jersey , and Utah knows that if it wins out the worst it can finish is No. 4 – which is astounding, considering it got off to a 19-28 start and was 10 games out of the fourth spot.

New Orleans (45-34) beat Phoenix to jump two spots to No. 5, and Minnesota (45-35) topped the Los Angeles Lakers to remain a half-game ahead of Denver for No. 8. Those two results mean four teams have exactly 45 wins going into Saturday, with Denver currently at 44 wins and the Los Angeles Clippers still able to get to 45 if they win out.

SATURDAY’S GAMES

Some clarity might … finally … come to the West.

– Denver at L.A. Clippers: The Clippers have to win out, or the season ends. Denver must try to match that desperation.

– Milwaukee at New York: Milwaukee is 10-12 since the All-Star break. Some momentum might help the playoff cause.

– Oklahoma City at Houston: Means nothing to Rockets. Means plenty to Thunder, who still could get home-court.

– New Orleans at Golden State: The Warriors embarrassed themselves at Indiana on Thursday. Will this be more of the same?

– Portland at San Antonio: The Spurs are trying for a 21st consecutive playoff spot, and the Blazers are trying to lock up the No. 3 seed.

– Brooklyn at Chicago has no playoff implication.

CURRENT BRACKET

First-round matchups if the season ended Friday …

East: 1-Toronto vs. 8-Washington, 2-Boston vs. 7-Milwaukee Arden Key Jersey , 3-Philadelphia vs. 6-Miami, 4-Cleveland vs. 5-Indiana.

West: 1-Houston vs. 8-Minnesota, 2-Golden State vs. 7-Oklahoma City, 3-Portland vs. 6-San Antonio, 4-Utah vs. 5-New Orleans.

NOTE OF THE DAY

Philadelphia has a chance to set an NBA record – the longest winning streak to end a regular season.

The 76ers have won 13 straight and have three games left. Win them all, and they would top the 15-game season-ending stretch by the Rochester Royals in 1949-50.

The last double-digit streak to end a season was posted by San Antonio in 2011-12, when the Spurs won their final 10 games. Philly coach Brett Brown was an assistant under Gregg Popovich on that Spurs team.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

”You’ve got to go through whoever it is anyway.” – Cleveland coach Tyronn Lue, asked about the Eastern Conference seeding jumble.

Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb created a bit of a concern when a reporter saw him wearing a walking boot in an airport in June.

But the ankle injury he was dealing with then has apparently healed Nick Boyle Jersey , a good sign as they prepare for camp to start next week.

Chris Roth of WBAY caught up with Cobb at his youth football camp, and saw him running a few drills with the campers.

“I will be involved in training camp when training camp comes around,” Cobb said.

He didn’t get into many of the details, saying he had to meet with the team’s medical staff to determine his level of involvement, but said the boot was for “protection” and that he felt “great” at the moment.

That has to be a relief for the Packers, as their receiving corps has a new look this year and need all the known commodities they can get. They released Jordy Nelson and brought in three rookies, so having a healthy Cobb working alongside Davante Adams and new tight end Jimmy Graham provides some stability.

Though Eric Wood can finally say he’s retired Dwight Clark Jersey , the now-former Buffalo Bills center is unaccustomed to discussing his career in the past tense.

On Monday, for example, Wood was still referring to this spring as ”the offseason,” while attending Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly’s charitable foundation golf tournament outside of Buffalo.

”It’s so funny. I find myself referring to it as the offseason and we’re making travel plans that aren’t slotted for just the five weeks off in the summer,” Wood said, referring to the break players traditionally get between the final spring practice and the start of training camp.

”It’s different for sure,” he added, while discussing his retirement for the first time since being diagnosed with a career-ending neck injury in January.

”I feel great,” Wood said, noting he’s already dropped about 55 pounds from his 310-pound playing weight.

”The body feels good. Can’t play ball, which stinks. And I miss it,” he added. ”There’s been a lot of times this spring where I’ve seen pictures posted and you think Jordan Whitehead Jersey , `Well, that’s my team.’

“But, it’s all good.”

Wood never envisioned his playing days would end so abruptly nine seasons into his NFL career, and after signing a two-year contract extension last summer.

Instead, team doctors ruled he would never be allowed to play again after end-of-season tests revealed Wood had two disks being dangerously close to his spinal cord. Wood received the news while he was in the delivery room with his wife, and about an hour before the birth of his second child, a son.

”It was shocking,” he said, noting his first reaction was to seek a second opinion. ”But ultimately there was no scenario for return to play.”

Wood revealed the severity of the injury during a news conference in January. He was not, however, allowed to say he was officially retiring due to contractual issues that could have prevented Wood from retaining his bonus money until the Bills finally released the 32-year-old on Thursday.

He hasn’t yet laid out any future plans, though Wood will always be a Bills fan after being selected by Buffalo in the first round of the 2009 draft out of Louisville.

Wood is following the team online and in social media. He laughed over the uproar on Twitter amid reports rookie first-round draft pick Josh Allen threw an interception during practice last week.

A respected team leader Deatrich Wise Jr Jersey , one thing Wood will miss is mentoring younger players.

He also expressed concern regarding good friend and former teammate Richie Incognito, who has had a tumultuous offseason. Incognito abruptly retired by posting a note on Twitter before the Bills granted his request to be released to potentially sign with another team weeks later.

Then, Incognito spent three days in a Florida mental hospital after he allegedly threw weights and tennis balls at gym employees and another patron and told police officers the government was spying on him two weeks ago.

”He’s going through a tough time right now,” Wood said. ”We’re praying for him, and I know he’ll come out of this a good man.”

On the bright side, Wood has come to terms with how his career ended and the consolation that it happened after a season in which the Bills snapped a 17-year playoff drought. His final game was a 10-3 loss to Jacksonville in an AFC wild-card playoff on Jan. 7.

”Yeah, that playoff berth was very sweet,” Wood said. ”It would’ve been very tough my career ending and not ever making the playoffs up here.”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Orlando Scandrick was on a plane headed home for a last-minute visit with his family when the Kansas City Chiefs played the Atlanta Falcons in their second preseason game last week.

He didn’t get to see another shaky performance by their secondary until reporting to his new team.

Now the veteran cornerback who spent nearly a decade with the Dallas Cowboys and was recently cut loose by the Washington Redskins will try to help patch it up. The Chiefs signed the 31-year-old Scandrick over the weekend in the hopes he can stabilize one of their biggest areas of need.

“I’m just trying to find my way around right now. I’ve only been here a few days,” he said with a smile Monday. “I’m doing a whole lot of listening and not a lot of talking.”

Scandrick won’t have a whole lot of time to get up to speed. The Chiefs visit the Chicago Bears this weekend for their third preseason game, then have a quick turnaround before their preseason finale.

Their regular-season opener is a mere three weeks away.

“After being in the league for 10 years, there’s only so many coverages a team can run Deion Sanders Jersey , only so many philosophies,” He said. “I’m just trying to learn the terminology right now.”

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has been a bit uncertain of his defensive backfield since the start of training camp, when they had Bashaud Breeland in for an extended visit. But Veach didn’t pull the trigger on a veteran addition until signing Scandrick last week.

“You can’t have enough corners, so Brett’s kept his eyes open, brought a couple in,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “This one, he felt comfortable.”

Finances were a big part of it — the cash-strapped Chiefs would only owe him $1.5 million for the upcoming season — but so was were injuries and underwhelming performances early in camp.

The Chiefs lost Daniel Sorensen for at least the start of the season after the safety broke a bone in his shin. They are also without cornerback Steven Nelson — expected to start opposite new arrival Kendall Fuller — after he sustained a concussion in their preseason opener.

A lingering heel injury has forced Eric Berry to the sideline the past couple of weeks, and the trade of Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams this year has made a secondary that struggled last season potentially worse.

“The big thing for us is just communicating and being on the same page and at the end of the day, making plays on the ball,” said Fuller, who arrived in the trade for Alex Smith. “As a DB, the more plays on the ball that you make Justin Jones Jersey , the better the opportunity you give your team to win.”

The Chiefs hope Scandrick can help make some of those plays. They hope Berry can, too.

The perennial Pro Bowl safety missed almost all of last season with a torn Achilles tendon, but he appeared ahead of schedule in his recovery when he participated in the offseason program. Berry also was on the practice fields of Missouri Western State University for the start of training camp, which Chiefs fans took as a good omen for the upcoming season.

Then he began sitting out practices with a heel injury. And so far, the injury has caused Berry to miss enough time that many are wondering whether there is something more serious afoot.

“I just don’t want to go backward. That’s what I don’t want to do,” Reid said between Monday’s morning walk-through and an afternoon practice. “I’m OK with it. He’s far enough long. … I just have to monitor it and see where he’s at. I’m comfortable where he’s going with this thing.”

Notes: DL Allen Bailey (knee strain) and OG Laurent Duvernay-Tardiff (concussion) joined Nelson and Berry in sitting out Monday’s practice. … RB Charcandrick West participated in some of the workout for the first time in several weeks after dealing with a concussion. “He feels good. The docs say he’s OK,” Reid said. “We’re in pads today, be helpful to see him move around.”

BOSTON — The Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics turn back the clock when they face each other in the Eastern Conference semifinals that begin in Boston Monday night.

Bill Russell. Wilt Chamberlain. Larry Bird. Julius Erving. Kevin McHale. Hal Greer. Bob Cousy. Billy Cunningham.

This is the NBA’s top rivalry in terms of series played. The teams meet for the 20th time in what has always been the Celtics but also been the Syracuse Nationals/Philadelphia Warriors/Sixers.

“They’re playing great. Got a great team Drew Kaser Jersey , great coach,” Celtics coach Brad Stevens said after his team eliminated the Milwaukee Bucks Saturday night. I think everybody talks about (Joel) Embiid and (Ben) Simmons and rightfully so, but I think it’s … the skill that they’ve added to their team and their other young guys getting better; and, obviously (JJ) Redick’s presence have just opened everything up.

“And they’re a bear to play against; you can tell from the last series. I think (coach) Brett (Brown)’s terrific. On down the line. They’re terrific.”

The Sixers, who have waited through years of tanking to get back to respectability, took care of the Miami Heat in five games of the first round and get the latest shot at their long-time rivals.

Their fans chanted “We want Boston,” during their Game 5 and they have them.

Asked Sunday for keys to defeating the Celtics Josh Jones Jersey , Sixers coach Brett Brown said, “Just how you’re gonna score. … They’re an excellent defensive team. We respect them with what they do defensively and I think they’re clever offensively.

“They’ve got the ability to bother you because the team really can shoot 3s.”

The teams, which first met in the playoffs when the Sixers were the Syracuse Nationals (think Larry Costello), haven’t met in the postseason since 2012 and have played twice since 1985. They have tangled just twice in 1985 and the Celtics have won the last three series. Philly’s last win came in 1982.

The Celtics needed seven games to dispose of Doug Collins’ Sixers in 2012.

If you want to consider thorns in each other’s sides, for Philly it was Boston’s Sam Jones while Bird always considered Andrew Toney poison for the Celtics.

The Celtics, the No. 2 seed in the East, went 3-1 against the Sixers during the regular season Jatavis Brown Jersey , including Boston erasing a 22-point deficit to win the game in London. Philly’s 89-80 victory in the Jan. 18 series finale featured Embiid going off for 26 points, 18 rebounds and six assists.

Markelle Fultz, who was “traded” from the Celtics to the Sixers, who accepted Boston’s first pick in the draft, did not play against the Celtics in the four games but has since returned.

Jaylen Brown, who had two breakout scoring games in the first round, tweaked a hamstring in the first half of Saturday’s game. He was pronounced fit to go but Stevens held him out as a precaution. After the game Matt Schaub Jersey , Brown said, “I’m ready,” adding, when asked if he’ll go in the opener, “That’s my goal.” He was slated for an MRI Sunday and Stevens called him doubtful.

Boston’s Marcus Morris, a Philadelphia native, openly rooted for the Sixers in their first-round series and said Sunday Jarvis Jenkins Jersey , “If we weren’t playing them I’d be rooting for Philly. But I hope we sweep them.”

The Sixers are the third seed in the conference and are coming off their first series win since 2012.

The Patriots signed running back Kenneth Farrow, receiver K.J. Maye and running back Khalfani Muhammad on Monday, Mike Reiss of ESPN reports.

Farrow originally signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Houston in 2016. He played in 13 games that season, gaining 192 yards on 60 carries and adding another 70 yards on 13 receptions.

He spent last season on injured reserve and was with the Chargers and then the Packers this past offseason.

Maye joined the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Minnesota in 2016. He later joined the Titans’ practice squad. Maye also spent time with the Patriots in 2017 before they waived him out of the preseason.

The Titans made Muhammad a seventh-round choice in 2017 out of California. He was on Tennessee’s practice squad last season, getting a call-up late in the season.

Tennessee cut him twice this offseason, the last time on May 1.

CHICAGO – When teams are deciding who to take in the NBA draft, the off-court interview still carries enormous weight. PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Trail Blazers must try to slow down Anthony Davis. The New Orleans Pelicans must do what they can to control Damian Lillard.

The seemingly impossible task becomes the ultimate challenge as each player leads his team into a first-round playoff series that opens Saturday night at Moda Center.

Portland (49-33) is the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference and New Orleans (48-34) the No. 6 seed. Only one game separated the teams through a wild, competitive regular season, with spots going down to the final day.

The 6-foot-11 Davis and the 6-foot, 3-inch Lillard play different positions, but they’re both likely first-team All-NBA selections this season. Davis is in the conversation for the Most Valuable Player Award Corey Linsley Jersey , too.

Davis finished second in the NBA in scoring at 28.1 points per game, was fifth in rebounds (11.1) and led the league in efficiency rating at 33.0. After fellow “Twin Tower” DeMarcus Cousins was lost for the season in late January with an Achilles tendon injury, Davis carried the load for a New Orleans team that went 20-8 since Feb. 10, winning its last five games.

“Losing a player like DeMarcus changes your team, but they still have Anthony Davis out there,” Lillard said. “That’s a good problem to have. He’s one of the very best players in our league. Anybody guarding him is going to have a tough time. He can handle the ball, shoots the 3, hit pull-ups and floaters and go coast to coast.”

Portland coach Terry Stotts is expected to use both 7-foot center Jusuf Nurkic and 6-foot-9 Al-Farouq “Chief” Aminu to defend Davis, who had 36-point games in the two full contests he played against the Blazers this season. Davis and Aminu played two seasons together in New Orleans in 2012-13 and 2013-14.

“Chief has the height and length to do a good job on (Davis),” Lillard said. “Plus he has the understanding how to guard guys, and he played with him, so he’s familiar with his tendencies. But it’s going to take a team effort. We’re going to have to be ready to play physical with him.”

“There are a lot of good players in this league,” Nurkic said. “He’s one of them. I’m not worried about Anthony Davis. He’s going to make his shots. He’s probably going to get his points. We need to worry about the rest of the team. Some of the other guys, like (Nikila) Mirotic, can have an impact. I’m more worried about one of those guys getting hot, because they have a lot of shooters.”

Lillard tied for fourth in the NBA in scoring at 26.9 points a game Roger Craig Jersey , was 10th in assists (6.6) and 11th in efficiency rating at 25.0. He combines with CJ McCollum (21.4-point average, 19th in the NBA) to form one of the most potent backcourt combinations in the league.

“You have to work as hard as you can defensively and hope they are not having one of those great nights they’re capable of having,” New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry said. “Dame is one of the best clutch players in the league. I feel like he’s been an All-Star the last five, six years. He has a way about him, a confidence about him, that he feels like when his team needs a basket the most, he can go get it.”

Davis said he holds great respect for the Blazers but isn’t just happy to be in the playoffs.

“It starts with their guards,” he said. “They are a handful. They can score at will. They’re a good defensive team. We have to make sure we don’t turn the ball over, take care of the defensive boards and play defense.

“Our goal is to not just get in the playoffs, but to make some noise. We want to try to get one, maybe both, of the games (in Portland), then go back home and take care of business.”

The Milwaukee Bucks‘ coaching search is underway patrick mahomes authentic jersey , with interviews starting as early as this weekend.

”For us we’re on a really thought-out process,” general manager Jon Horst said Friday. ”It will start out immediately and we’ll hopefully get to a great result at the end of it.”

Current coach Joe Prunty will be among those interviewed after the former assistant led the Bucks to a 21-16 record following the firing in late January of Jason Kidd. The Bucks said then that Prunty would get a shot to keep the job.

”Joe has earned the right to be part of this process. He will be,” Horst said at the Bucks’ training facility. ”Now it’s our job to not only focus on Joe but the other candidates that we’re going to bring in and try to come up with a great result.”

The Bucks’ job is attractive with a new arena opening in the fall and budding NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo leading a young core.

Interviews could start as early as Saturday, Horst said, and there was no timeline to make a hire. Teams are also preparing for the NBA draft on June 21, and free agency begins July 1.

”So we’d like to have someone in place in a timely manner, but we’re not going to rush a decision … at the end of the day, we’ll take as a long we need to take the right person,” Horst said.

The Bucks took a small step forward this year after winning 44 games Shaq Mason Jersey , two better than last year. They were eliminated in seven games in the first round of the playoffs by the Boston Celtics, a year after losing in six in the first to Toronto.

Forward Jabari Parker returned in early February from the second major left knee of his career. About the same time, key guards Malcolm Brogdon (quad) and Matthew Dellavedova (ankle) went down with injuries that forced them to miss of the last two months of the year.

Milwaukee adjusted to the arrival of guard Eric Bledsoe by trade from Phoenix in November, along with the firing of Kidd.

”I was really proud of our guys, I thought we continued to get better,” Horst said. ”We kind of fought through some adversity and to put ourselves in position to have a real chance to win in spite of all those things, I thought was pretty remarkable.”

Jon Gruden is football through and through. It doesn’t matter what level, what age, or where.

The former and now current coach of the Raiders displayed that again Tuesday by overseeing the distribution of funds and equipment to four Oakland youth football programs through the DICK’S Sporting Goods Sports Matter Program. Gruden has been a major spokesman for that initiative for more than four years.

In the afternoon at Raiders headquarters Vontae Davis Jersey , Gruden presented grants of $15,000 to the head coaches of McClymonds High School and Oakland Tech. He invited the coaches of both teams to the Raiders main office for a ”special behind- the-scenes tour” and discussion of football in Oakland. When the tour ended, Gruden handed over the checks to the surprised coaches.

At night, coaches and players from the East Bay Panthers and San Leandro Crusaders headed to a ”friendly scrimmage” at Burrell Field. When the teams ran onto the field, they were stunned to see new football helmets, pads, balls and water bottles laid out on the field for them.

Each league received a $50,000 grant.

”Being back in Oakland and getting back into coaching has only fired me up more to work with DICK’S Sports Matter program to help more kids have the opportunity to play,” said Gruden Alex Anzalone Jersey , who also gave the Panthers and Crusaders a pep talk. ”Like so many other cities in the U.S., we have an issue with youth sports funding here in Oakland. Costs are rising – kids can’t afford to play and coaches can’t afford to coach.

”Seeing these kids’ faces light up and knowing that sports will teach them so many valuable lessons they will carry with them off the field is really special.”

Gruden encourages other youth sports program struggling to get by ”to visit SportsMatter.org to apply for help.”

”If you give your absolute best effort on the field, the lessons that sports teach will stay with you forever, and help you to be your best in every part of your life,” he said.

Oakland has an 18.9 percent poverty rate, and the highest crime rate of any city in California.

Many areas in cities across the country need funding for their youth sports and school athletic programs. According to Up2Us Sports, a nonprofit whose research, training, and on-the-ground initiatives empower sports programs to become an agent of positive social change Corey Liuget Jersey , billions of dollars have been cut from school sports budgets in recent years. These cuts disproportionately impact students in low income areas, and students from low-income families are four times more likely to decrease participation in sports due to costs.

Student athletes have an 11 percent higher graduation rate than non-athletes, Up2Us Sports reports. The U.S. Department of Education adds that students who participate in sports are four times more likely to attend college.

DICK’S and its foundation created Sports Matter in 2014, pledging more than $50 million to support youth sports programs in need and raise awareness of the funding crisis. To date, Sports Matter has helped fund tens of thousands of youth sports programs and impacted hundreds of thousands of young athletes nationwide.

”It’s days like today that make it all worth it, and we can’t thank coach Gruden and DICK’S enough,” said Jacob Davis, president of the East Bay Panthers. ”We love these kids and know how important sports are to keep them off the streets and doing positive things in their lives. This money will go a long way in helping our leagues survive and thrive.”

Only one of the Patriots’ final 12 opponents scored more than 24 points.Patricia’s 2016 defense finished No. 1 in the NFL by allowing 15.6 points per game.Prior to joining the Patriots, Patricia spent six seasons coaching in college. He worked as an aeronautical engineer for two years before returning to coaching at Amherst in 1999. Patricia’s first coaching experience came in 1996, when he served as a graduate assistant at RPI, where he was a center and guard. The Baltimore Ravens spoiled Andrew Luck's Indianapolis homecoming.

They picked him off before allowing a completion, and Terrell Suggs nearly chopped the ball out of Luck's hands on a sack. The Ravens then secured a 20-19 preseason win over the Colts by stopping a late 2-point conversion run.

Luck was just OK in his first home start since Jan. 1, 2017. But he did receive a roaring ovation from the crowd when he took the field, led the Colts to one score and apparently emerged unscathed after going down twice on sacks.

"Not too sharp, certainly red-zone turnovers are a negative Dwayne Harris Jersey , missed a couple of throws I'd like to hit," he said. "And I didn't feel like we, as an offense, got into any semblance of a sustained rhythm."

Expectations were high following a solid start in Seattle.

This time, the Colts (1-1) looked sloppy.

Luck missed his first three throws, the third winding up in the hands of Ravens safety Anthony Levine Jr. Luck rebounded to finish 6 of 13 for 50 yards and set up 45-year-old Adam Vinatieri for a 57-yard field before leaving in the second quarter.

If Luck had his way, he might have played longer. But first-year coach Frank Reich wasn't taking any chances with Luck's surgically repaired arm.

"We just never found a rhythm for him and some of his balls were not his best balls," he said. "But I still have a lot of confidence we're headed in the right direction."

Joe Flacco, Lamar Jackson and the Ravens looked better.

Flacco went 7 of 9 for 72 yards and one touchdown. Jackson then showed flashes of what helped him win the 2016 Heisman Trophy.

Jackson was 7 of 15 for 49 yards and a TD and carried four times for 26 yards before giving way to another Heisman winner, Robert Griffin III, in the fourth quarter.

Indy still had a chance at the end after Tarell Basham recovered a fumble at the Ravens 9. Five plays later, Phillip Walker threw a 9-yard TD pass to Zach Pascal with 2:24 left. But the Ravens (3-0) stopped Walker on the 2-point try LaDainian Tomlinson Jersey , recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock.

"Happy to get the win," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "We did a lot of things that weren't winning football, especially in the second half."

The Ravens made it tough on Indy all night.

They stopped Indy twice in the red zone and nearly had a third when Jordan Wilkins fumbled the ball into the end zone, where it bounced right into the hands of receiver Chester Rogers.

Flacco gave the Ravens a 7-3 lead early in the second quarter when he hooked up with John Brown on a 7-yard score, and Jackson's masterful hurry-up drive at the end of the first half ended with Justin Tucker's 38-yard field goal with 2 seconds left.

When Colts rookie Nyheim Hines fumbled away the opening kickoff of the second half, Jackson hooked up with Chris Moore on a 7-yard TD pass to make it 17-10.

STAYING CALM

Saturday's joint practice between the teams was marred by two skirmishes, one which resulted in both teams running from the sideline to the middle of the field.

Though the officials called 21 penalties, including five that went for at least 15 yards, there were no such incidents Monday after Reich publicly criticized his team for being undisciplined in practice.

NATIONAL ANTHEM

There were no protests by either team during the national anthem.

During pregame warmups, Colts players donned T-shirts promoting their new message "Breaking Barriers," a community effort team officials and players hope will promote equality and justice for everyone while unlocking more opportunities for those who don't always get them.

Players want to create more dialogue within the community, inspire local citizens to become leaders and fund community initiatives such as the team's newly established Social Justice Club Fund. The Colts also plan to award grants from the Players Action Fund Trevor Siemian Jersey , which was boosted by a $100,000 donation from team owner Jim Irsay when it formed last year.

INJURIES

Ravens: Right guard Marshal Yanda and cornerback Jimmy Smith did not play. Rookie Orlando Brown Jr. made the start on the offensive line. But the Ravens did not announce any significant injuries during the game.

Colts: Indy played without receiver T.Y. Hilton (shoulder), running back Marlon Mack (hamstring), left tackle Anthony Castonzo (hamstring) and safety Malik Hooker (knee) 鈥?all projected starters.
