ENGLEWOOD Authentic Frans Nielsen Jersey , Colo. (AP) Paxton Lynch has a good chance of being active for the first time this season when the Denver Broncos face the Cincinnati Bengals.

Brock Osweiler will make his third start for the Broncos (3-6), but coach Vance Joseph for the first time left open the possibility that Lynch would leapfrog Trevor Siemian as the backup.

”That’s still being discussed,” Joseph said Friday. ”But he practiced all week. He looked fine, so we’ll see.”

Article continues below ...

Joseph said he won’t activate all three of his quarterbacks, however.

”It’s two quarterbacks that are going to be up,” Joseph said. ”The determining factors will be how well we thought Paxton practiced this week. That’s pretty much it. He could be up.”

Lynch has gradually worked his way back from a sprained throwing shoulder he suffered in the preseason and this week took some of the first-team snaps for the first time since losing out to Siemian in the team’s QB competition.

Siemian was benched in favor of Osweiler three weeks ago after committing too many turnovers.

TIGHT END PUZZLE: Joseph has some decisions to make at tight end after ruling out Jeff Heuerman (knee) and A.J. Derby (shoulder), leaving Virgil Green as his only healthy tight end on the roster.

Joseph could promote one of his two tight ends on his practice squad Cheap Alex Cappa Jersey , Austin Traylor and Brian Parker, or he could adjust his formations and personnel Sunday if he decides against a roster move.

”We have to figure out a solution there, whether it’s going to be a tackle playing a big tight end for us or bringing someone up,” Joseph said.

Although swing tackle Donald Stephenson (calf) was limited all week, he’s one possibility.

”Yes, he’s practiced all week and he should be up and running for the game,” said Joseph Authentic Lucas Duda Jersey , who added that guard Allen Barbre will make a second straight start at right tackle.

OLIVO UNDERSTANDS: Special teams coordinator Brock Olivo said the Broncos got back to fundamentals after a series of gaffes in the kicking game led to 24 points by the Patriots on Sunday night.

”It wasn’t easy. Just had a bunch of breakdowns across the board. It was the perfect storm, mostly fundamental breakdowns that can be fixed,” Olivo said. ”I’m responsible for the performance on the field and my players also know that they’re responsible for playing better, as well. So, we went in and watched the film on Monday and had a heart to heart and decided we’re going to fix this thing and move forward.”

One big change was benching rookie punt returner Isaiah McKenzie, who has five fumbles and hasn’t learned when to call for a fair catch. He was supplanted by receiver Jordan Taylor.

”Nobody feels worse than Isaiah right now,” Olivo said. ”A lot of times a rookie returner will have a muff and then he gets snakes in his head and then he thinks he’s got to make up for that by making plays and you’ve got to pick and choose your moments in the NFL. You’re not going to be able to make a play every time you’re out there. Sometimes you’ve got to fair catch.

”So Authentic Ian Thomas Jersey , he’s learning there. And it’s a learning curve and in the long run this will serve him and us well.”

Olivo said Brandon McManus got too much underneath the ball on Dion Lewis’ 103-yard touchdown kickoff return.

”He was trying to kick a touchback there, no question,” Olivo said. ”But it’s not as easy as it looks sometimes and he got underneath it. The bottom line is we have to cover the kick. We have to get off blocks.”

Two reinforcements on coverage are recently signed linebackers Joseph Jones and Deiontrez Mount.

Olivo said he deserves all the vitriol directed his way from exasperated Broncos fans this week ”because it was a deplorable performance and this place has a high standard.”

”That’s why I love being here, because it does have a high standard,” Olivo said. ”You don’t want to be in a place where mediocrity is accepted. Nobody wants that. And so this place is known for its Hall of Famers and its Super Bowls. And I have to live up to that level, no question. So, no I’m not surprised by the vitriol and in fact Authentic Byron Maxwell Jersey , I deserved it, I need it, it’ll get us better. It’ll make us better.”

ENGLEWOOD http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/jaire-alexander-jersey , Colo. (AP) Case Keenum couldn’t wait to get out of Minnesota.

No, he’s not bitter over the Vikings‘ decision to move on to Kirk Cousins.

And he isn’t gloating over being ”the man ” for the first time in his NFL career after signing a two-year, $36 million deal last month in Denver.

Article continues below ...

He’s just glad to see some sunshine, that’s all.

Before coming to Colorado for the Broncos‘ offseason program, Keenum made a stop in Minneapolis to accept the ”Uncommon Award” from Tony Dungy at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska on Friday.

The only downer was the blizzard that struck the nation’s midsection.

”It dumped like 25 inches on us,” Keenum said. ”So, I was ready to get out of there and get to Denver and the sunshine.”

Keenum is entering the season as the starter for the first time in his six-year career after coach Vance Joseph declared him the Broncos’ No. 1 QB at the free agent’s introductory news conference a month ago.

Yet, Keenum’s role beyond 2018 remains up in the mile-high air because general manager John Elway could still use the fifth overall pick in next week’s NFL draft to select a quarterback.

Elway and his lieutenants have taken long Cheap J'Mon Moore Jersey , hard looks at this year’s college crop of QBs, including the ”Big Four ” prospects. They hosted Baker Mayfield on Monday but Keenum said he hadn’t run into him.

Keenum also insists he isn’t concerned that he’ll soon be tutoring his successor should Elway choose a quarterback.

”I’m excited for whoever’s going to come in and make us better,” Keenum said. ”That’s what competition breeds within your own team. I think it makes you better. So, whoever comes in I’ll be looking for them to help us be a better football team. No matter what position it is. I know they’re going to draft a lot of positions. It doesn’t change my mindset at all.”

Yet, non-QB blue chippers such as Penn State running back Saquon Barkley, North Carolina State defensive end Bradley Chubb or Notre Dame guard Quenton Nelson would provide immediate help for Keenum this season and maybe even stability for his future.

Von Miller has said he’d love to have Chubb lining up next to him.

”He’s Khalil Mack and Von Miller put together,” Miller said with a laugh. ”He is a great player and I would love to have him on my team. You don’t come across guys like that often. We don’t (normally) have the No. 5 pick in the draft. I hope we don’t have a high pick like that for a while. So if we can steal a player like that, I’m all for it.”

When Keenum reported to work Monday Authentic Ryan McDonagh Jersey , it marked the first time he’d been the unquestioned starting quarterback since his final days at the University of Houston, where he set NCAA passing records but still went undrafted before compiling a 20-18 record with the Vikings, Rams and Texans.

”It feels good, it does,” Keenum said. ”It’s not something where I feel like I’ve made it. That’s not ever my mentality. I’m going to stay hungry.

”Nothing’s ever been handed to me. I’ve earned that right, and I’m going to continue to earn that right being in this building, in the weight room, meeting room Authentic Saquon Barkley Jersey , practice field and then on game day.”

The Broncos’ anemic offense was a big reason for their slide to 5-11 last season, just two years after they won the Super Bowl, and Elway’s makeover includes the arrival of right tackle Jared Veldheer and the departure of running back C.J. Anderson on Monday.

Anderson could have provided a valuable sounding board to Keenum much like he did with Peyton Manning, Brock Osweiler and Trevor Siemian.

”It doesn’t change me and my mindset and what I’m prepared to do here and what I want to do here, what I feel like I need to do,” Keenum said. ”I know that NFL teams change constantly. So, I’m here right now, just trying to get into the building and just become familiar with everything.”

For now Authentic Jose Ramirez Jersey , the Broncos’ quarterback room also includes holdovers Paxton Lynch, a first-rounder in 2016 who so far has flopped, and Chad Kelly, last year’s Mr. Irrelevant who spent his rookie season on IR.

Keenum said his interactions with Lynch and Kelly have been good so far.

”We’ve got a great quarterback room, and I appreciate that because I’ve been in some other quarterback rooms that haven’t been,” Keenum said.

TORONTO — Going by recent trends Cheap DJ Chark Jersey , the possibility of a shootout at the Air Canada Centre looms when the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Columbus Blue Jackets play there Monday night.

Both teams are coming into the game off shootout wins.

The Maple Leafs have won their past two games in shootouts, including a 3-2 verdict over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night. They also beat the San Jose Sharks 3-2 in a shootout on Thursday.

Article continues below ...

The Blue Jackets defeated the Florida Panthers 3-2 in a shootout on Sunday. Josh Anderson got the decisive goal in the eighth round.

The Blue Jackets, however, did not require a shootout on Dec. 20 in Columbus when they beat the Maple Leafs 4-2.

Both teams will take wins any way they can find them lately.

The Maple Leafs (25-16-2) are 5-4-1 in their past 10 games despite two wins in a row as they play the fourth game of a six-game homestand.

The Blue Jackets (24-16-3) are 4-4-2 in their past 10 games despite winning two of their past three.

The Blue Jackets failed to close the deal against the Panthers in regulation when Aleksander Barkov tied the score for Florida at 18:26 of the third.

Both goaltenders were busy, with Sergei Bobrovsky making 42 saves for Columbus and James Reimer stopping 46 shots for Florida.

There were positives for the Blue Jackets besides the two points they earned, including Nick Foligno ending a 10-game stretch without a goal when he scored in the first period.

Brandon Dubinsky (fractured orbital bone), Cam Atkinson (foot) and Alexander Wennberg (back) are injured and Columbus has been struggling to score at times Cardinals Josh Rosen Jersey , particularly on the power play.

“The first period we played with energy,” Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella said. “The second period we were treading water a bit. In the third, I thought we played really well but couldn’t get that third goal.”

Columbus was a little unlucky on the tying goal with the puck deflecting off Foligno’s skate to Barkov.

“Sometimes it happens,” Bobrovsky said. “The most important thing is we get the two points. Those bounces, we can’t control that. It could happen in the first period. It happened in the third.”

The Blue Jackets are last in the league in scoring on the power play, but center Pierre-Luc Dubois notched a goal with a man advantage in the second period Sunday.

“You can see when our power play is working what it can do for us,” Dubois said. “If you get two or three five-on-five goals Authentic T. J. Oshie Jersey , like we usually do, then you add one or two on the power play, we’re a really dangerous team.

“Our power play hasn’t been working for us this year, but the past couple of games we’re getting closer and closer.”

Toronto center Tyler Bozak has scored the clinching goal in both Maple Leafs’ shootout wins last week.

“I think shootouts have always been pretty comfortable and I’ve done pretty well in them, so it’s fun to go in those, especially when you’ve got a chance to win it for the guys,” Bozak said after the game on Saturday.

Bozak also scored the tying goal in the third period Saturday to bring the Maple Leafs back from a 2-0 disadvantage.

“I thought we had a pretty bad first half of the game Authentic Cody Latimer Jersey ,” Bozak said. “I thought they kind of took it to us. They played pretty well, then we kind of turned it on a bit.

“I think our power play probably should have had a couple of goals, which was unfortunate, but it’s nice to be able to come back like that and get the two points. There’s going to be a lot of close games here the rest of the way.”

Toronto defenseman Travis Dermott made his NHL debut Saturday and picked up an assist on the tying goal.

“I thought he was confident, moved the puck, skated good,” Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock said. “He looks like he’s got good hockey sense. It looked like the situation didn’t intimidate him at all.

“We’re just going to watch him like all guys. Everyone comes to the National Hockey League and their first game Cheap Dontae Johnson Jersey , everything is great. Then the next game and the next game, over a period of time, we’ll see if he’s a regular NHL player. If he can help us, he’ll play.”

BLOOMINGTON Cheap Sam Darnold Jersey , Minn. (AP) Tom Brady has accomplished just about everything when it comes to playing in the Super Bowl.

His five titles and four Super Bowl MVPs are more than any other quarterback. He has posted the two biggest comeback wins in Super Bowl history, including last year’s rally from 25 points down to beat Atlanta. He has thrown for more yards or touchdowns than any quarterback on the biggest stage.

Perhaps the only accomplishment missing seems like a relatively simple one: leading a first-quarter scoring drive.

Article continues below ...

In one of the more surprising Super Bowl stats, the Patriots have failed to score a single point in the first quarter in their seven Super Bowl trips in the Brady-Bill Belichick era.

”We’re trying to score every time we take the field,” Brady said. ”There’s a little caveat to that in my opinion. In 2007, it was our first drive of the game Authentic Nazem Kadri Jersey , it just happened to be the first play of the second quarter.

”But it was the first time we touched it. So we did score when we got it first. But I’d love to score 21 points in the first quarter if we can but obviously this defense can make it really tough for us.”

The Patriots did score on that first possession in their first meeting against the Giants. But because New York held the ball for 9:59 to open the game with a field-goal drive, Laurence Maroney’s 1-yard run came on the first play of the second quarter.

The first-quarter scoring woes in the Super Bowl led to a memorable moment from an NFL Network documentary about last year’s title of linebackers coach Brian Flores addressing a banquet to honor the team.

”Coach Belichick, prior to the game, looked right at Tom Brady and goes `Tom, we’ve been to six Super Bowls together Texans Keke Coutee Jersey , and we’ve never scored a point in the first quarter. Can we get that done?”’ Flores told the crowd. ”I look around and I go, `Man, we’re going to score 30 points in the first quarter.”’

Instead it didn’t happen. It was another first-quarter shutout as the Patriots went three-and-out the first time they had the ball and then stalled near midfield following two sacks on the second drive. The third drive ended when LeGarrette Blount fumbled on the second play of the second quarter.

Brady has been on the field for a first-quarter score when his intentional grounding penalty in the end zone against the Giants in 2012 led to a safety for New York. That was one of four scores in the first quarter against the Patriots in their seven trips with Belichick and Brady.

”Look, we try to score in every game,” Belichick said. ”I know that’s probably hard to understand Authentic Josh Jackson Jersey , but we try to go out and score and keep the other team from scoring. That’s our goal every game.”

It’s not as if slow starts are a chronic problem for Brady and the Patriots. Since his first season as the starter in 2001, New England leads the NFL on first-quarter scoring with 5.7 points per game.

The Patriots are only a tick behind that at 5.5 points per first quarter in the playoff rounds prior to the Super Bowl with Brady at quarterback.

But for some reason that all changes on the biggest stage, even though it hasn’t stopped the Patriots from winning five Super Bowl titles.

”I would say that’s the emphasis every week,” receiver Phillip Dorsett said. ”We play better when we start fast, and that’s a big emphasis every week Cheap Josh Jackson Jersey , not just in the Super Bowl but in the weeks prior to this. I mean, we have a better record when we’re playing fast and we get out to a good start, when we get points on the board on that first drive. So, we always like to do that.”

ARLINGTON Cheap Geron Christian Jersey , Texas (AP) Dak Prescott was getting X-rays on his swollen right hand when rookie Ryan Switzer scored his first career touchdown on an 83-yard punt return.

The extra time with the Dallas offense on the sideline kept Prescott from missing any plays, and last year’s NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year led the Cowboys to their first win after three straight losses without suspended star running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Prescott threw two touchdown passes, including a franchise record-breaker to Dez Bryant , in the Cowboys’ 38-14 victory over the Washington Redskins on Thursday night.

Article continues below ...

The injury happened in the second quarter when Prescott’s right hand was hit by linebacker Josh Harvey-Clemons just as he made an option pitch to Rod Smith. Thanks to Switzer’s dash to the end zone, Prescott didn’t miss a snap. He said the X-rays came back negative.

”I don’t know if I’ve ever broken my hand,” Prescott said. ”I couldn’t grip initially right after because the (hand) swelled up on me so bad. As I said, they wrapped it up Cheap Donte Jackson Jersey , got the swelling down and I was fine.”

Bryant’s leaping 13-yard catch in the end zone was the 2014 All-Pro’s first score in six games and 72nd of his career, one more than Hall of Famer Bob Hayes.

The Cowboys (6-6) never trailed despite a sluggish start to the offense, thanks to three first-half turnovers and four overall by the Redskins (5-7). Dallas kept it going after halftime with a 21-7 scoring edge after getting outscored 72-6 in the second half during the three-game skid.

Alfred Morris, Elliott’s replacement during the six-game suspension for alleged domestic violence, had 127 yards rushing and a clinching touchdown.

The Cowboys forced NFL-leading Philadelphia to wait until at least Sunday to clinch the division title. But Dallas still faces a steep climb to playoff contention, and two more games without Elliott.

The Redskins had already been eliminated in the division race and are virtually out of the postseason picture after Kirk Cousins threw two interceptions and lost a fumble while throwing two touchdown passes.

Jamison Crowder let the pass go through his hands on Cousins’ first interception and fumbled on a Dallas punt a few plays later in the Redskins’ fourth straight loss to the Cowboys, the longest such streak in the series since 2003-04.

”It was just miscues Authentic Drew Smyly Jersey ,” Cousins said. ”A dropped ball here, we had a nice drive down the field the second drive, just a tough turnover, and then it was one thing after another that were just mistakes. They happen, and we have to correct them.”

By the time the Redskins answered Switzer’s punt return with a 75-yard drive that ended with Cousins’ 20-yard scoring pass to Ryan Grant , Prescott was ready to return. He had been holding his right hand in his helmet once he returned to the sideline.

Rookie backup Cooper Rush had his helmet on when the Redskins punted.

”If we didn’t have the return by Switz, Cooper Rush would have got in the ballgame at that point Cheap Dorian O'Daniel Jersey ,” coach Jason Garrett said. ”We got the return, Dak was able to come back out.”

Prescott only threw for 102 yards but didn’t have a turnover after throwing five interceptions and losing three fumbles without a touchdown pass during the losing streak.

And the Cowboys looked more like the offense they have when Elliott is around, with Morris picking up big yardage on clock-killing drives with the Cowboys in front.

Cousins moved the Washington offense sporadically because he was consistently harassed behind a patchwork offensive line that had to shuffle some more because of injuries. Cousins, who was 26 of 37 for 251 yards, was replaced by Colt McCoy late in the fourth quarter.

SACKS ARE BACK

DeMarcus Lawrence, the NFL sacks leader most of the first half of the season, had two of Dallas’ four sacks Authentic Eric Staal Jersey , ending a two-game drought for the entire team and extending his career high to 13 1/2. Cousins was hit hard by David Irving on a sack in the fourth quarter.

BRYANT’S IMPACT

Bryant still hasn’t had a 100-yard game, his longest drought to start a season since his second year in 2011. But the 61-yard effort included a 24-yarder that set up his record-setting TD on the first play of the fourth quarter. ”I was talking about that demeanor and that attitude that we carried,” Prescott said. ”I give him credit. He kind of brought it this week and pretty much tonight and you kind of felt it early.”

MORE OL SHUFFLING

Redskins right tackle Morgan Moses didn’t return after injuring an ankle in the first half, forcing Ty Nsekhe to that spot after he was a fill-in starter at left guard on a patchwork line that’s been dealing with injuries all season.

Left tackle Trent Williams left the field briefly in the third quarter. He’s been inactive three of the past six games because a knee injury that will require surgery. Washington was already missing center Chase Roullier because of a hand injury.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) Saints All-Pro defensive end Cameron Jordan grinned playfully as he glanced up at a bottle of red wine in the top shelf of his locker and asked if anyone knew Carolina quarterback Cam Newton’s address.

A bottle with the name ”Jordan” on the label – even if it isn’t made by the Saints star’s family – might be the last thing Newton wants right now.

Drew Brees and his receiving corps came through when Carolina stifled New Orleans’ prolific backfield Cheap Sylvester Williams Jersey , and a relentless Jordan spearheaded a late defensive stand to seal a 31-26 an NFC wild-card round victory on Sunday.

Article continues below ...

”You can’t be more happy about the way we played in terms of how we finished the game,” Jordan said. ”We almost let them back in the game, but here I am standing as winner. Here I am, as a Cam Jordan, sending Cam Newton a bottle of Jordan wine.”

Brees passed for 376 yards and two touchdowns, but one more completion would have considerably lowered the stress level on the Saints’ sideline. Coach Sean Payton kept the offense on the field on fourth-and-short with two minutes remaining and Carolina out of timeouts, hoping for one more first down that would have allowed New Orleans to run out the clock.

But Brees couldn’t find an open receiver, was flushed out of the pocket and decided his best option was to throw it up for grabs. It was intercepted by safety Mike Adams Cheap Will Dissly Jersey , which turned out better for New Orleans than an incompletion because it meant the Panthers had to start from their own 31 instead of mid-field.

Still, Newton completed three straight passes to move the Panthers to the Saints 26-yard line with 58 seconds left before New Orleans’ resistance stiffened.

”I’m frustrated,” Newton said. ”I hate that I couldn’t do enough to get a win today for a lot of guys that I think so highly of.

”I just have to be better,” he added. ”I’m not going to take the cowardly way and point somebody else out.”

The comeback bid began to fizzle when Jordan induced an intentional grounding penalty on Newton, making it third-and-25 on the Saints 34 and a requiring 10-second runoff that left 20 seconds on the clock.

After an incompletion in the end zone, Vonn Bell sacked Newton on a safety blitz , ensuring the Saints (12-5) swept all three meetings with Carolina (11-6) this season, in addition to winning the first postseason game they’ve played in four seasons.

”The coaches wanted to get the ball out of the quarterback’s hands fast Redskins Geron Christian Jersey ,” Bell said. ”They dialed it up and I said, `Go make a play.”’

Brees’ touchdowns went for 80-yards to Ted Ginn and 9 yards to tight end Josh Hill. Fullback Zach line and running back Alvin Kamara each ran for short touchdowns, the latter set up by Michael Thomas’ 46-yard reception .

”What we’ve shown offensively is we have a lot of ways to be effective,” Brees said, mentioning clutch first-down catches by Brandon Coleman and Willie Snead in addition to the big plays by Ginn and Thomas. ”The ball was spread around quite a bit and guys were making plays when they had the chances.”

Thomas caught eight passes for 131 yards on a day when the Saints needed the passing game to compensate for a ground game that struggled to get going. Thomas said when he noticed the Panthers playing with one safety deep instead of their usual two, ”you’re licking your chops with a quarterback like Drew Brees and the talent we have. We knew what we had to do and it was on the receivers.”

Ginn, a former Panthers receiver, celebrated the sweep of his former team by holding up a broom in the locker room.

MISSED OPPORTUNITIES

Helped by the presence of tight end Greg Olsen – who did not play in the teams’ previous two meetings – Newton marched Carolina into Saints territory more often than not. But the Panthers stalled four times inside the New Orleans 25 in the first three quarters. They settled for four field goal attempts on those drives Authentic Andrew Cogliano Jersey , one of which kicker Graham Gano surprisingly missed from 25-yards.

Jordan called the Saints’ red-zone stops ”huge.”

”Had half of those been touchdowns, we’d be sitting in a different spot,” Jordan said.

KEY STATS

Olsen had eight catches for 107 yards and a touchdown.

Newton finished 24 of 40 passing for 349 yards and two touchdowns, including a 56-yard scoring strike to Christian McCaffrey that pulled the Panthers within a touchdown with 4:09 left.

Saints running backs Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara, who combined for more than 3,000 yards from scrimmage this season, were held to 68 total yards.

RUSHING THE PASSSER

Newton was sacked four times, once each by Bell Jaguars Tanner Lee Jersey , Jordan, Jonathan Freeney, and David Onyemata. The sack by Onyemata came as Newton tried to spin away from Tyeler Davison and slammed his head into Onyemata’s chest. Newton appeared to be checked for a concussion, but missed only one play before returning to the game on Carolina’s next possession

Newton sat on the field near the sideline after the play, and while a new NFL rule calls for players to be taken to the locker room to be evaluated for concussions if they appear to be struggling to stand, Newton said part of his helmet got pushed into his eyelid. Panthers coach Ron Rivera offered a similar explanation and added that Newton only sat down to give backup Derek Anderson more time to warm up.

The NFL said it planned to discuss the matter with the Panthers medical staff before commenting further.

CHARLOTTE Authentic Allen Craig Jersey , N.C. — The Minnesota Vikings are trending toward one of the top spots in the NFC, but the Carolina Panthers haven’t given up on that thought either.

The teams meet Sunday afternoon at Bank of America Stadium, insisting their focus is on each other and not the big picture with four games remaining in the regular season.

The Vikings (10-2) are contending for a spot that could result in home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

“We’ve got four games left,” Minnesota coach Mike Zimmer said. “My only thoughts are on the Carolina Panthers and trying to get a win this week. All that stuff is nice to talk about, but for us we’ll go about our business.”

The Vikings are on the verge of wrapping up the outright NFC North title, needing just one more victory to do that.

The Panthers (8-4), who face a divisional leader for the second week in a row http://www.sandiegochargersteamonline.com/uchenna-nwosu-jersey , missed their chance to move to the top of the NFC South standings with last week’s loss at New Orleans. Still, they could rise to first place with a strong finishing stretch.

“There’s still things in our future that can get us on the right track again,” Carolina quarterback Cam Newton said.

But Panthers coach Ron Rivera isn’t interested in discussing how his team stacks up in the standings.

“I think what’s most significant is that we have to take one at a time and focus on the opponent,” Rivera said. “It doesn’t matter what happens anywhere else.”

The Vikings are coming off a 14-9 road victory against the Atlanta Falcons, who are one of Carolina’s NFC South rivals.

The combination of quarterback Case Keenum and receiver Adam Thielen has been one of the strongest in the NFL this season.

But Minnesota running back Latavius Murray, who has 75 or more rushing yards in each of the past three games, has turned into a consistent option.

“Running the ball is important for us Authentic Evgeny Kuznetsov Jersey , not just getting yards but play-action,” Keenum said. “I think there has been good balance.”

The Vikings will be counting on that type of mixture against a Carolina defense that’s bound to be anxious to crank up the pressure.

“If they want to not rush, that would be great by me,” Keenum said. “We’re going to expect them to rush the passer. That’s something we have to work on … and be ready to get the ball out.”

Rivera said he’s wary of Minnesota’s explosiveness, a concern that’s probably heightened because the Panthers have been victims of big-yardage plays the past couple of weeks and they might be without linebacker Shaq Thompson (foot injury).

On offense, the Panthers will want to re-establish a ground attack. They’ve found that the most effective way to make headway overall on offense. That could be the key to cracking the Vikings.

“Our guys take a lot of pride in playing the run,” Zimmer said. “They all take a lot of pride in it. It’s important to try to make teams one-dimensional.”

Newton said too many three-and-outs have hindered the offense and impacted the Panthers in general.

“We have to get our defense more rest time Authentic Neil Walker Jersey ,” Newton said.

Rivera said the Panthers are expecting a heavy dose of man coverages from the Minnesota defense.

Zimmer said the Vikings looked faster on special teams last week and that’s an area that he has hoped would show strides. The Panthers had several mishaps with the special-teams units last week, so that’s an area worth monitoring.

There are several connections between the Vikings and Panthers.

Look for some of the spotlight to fall on Carolina left tackle Matt Kalil, who was a Minnesota first-round draft pick in 2012. He left the Vikings during the past offseason to sign with the Panthers.

It hasn’t always been smooth transition, but he drew praise this week.

“He’s a guy who fights,” Rivera said, noting there are often interesting elements emerging with a player faces his former team. “I think he’s learning to develop into our system.”

Carolina cornerback Captain Munnerlyn spent the past three seasons with the Vikings before returning to the Panthers prior to this season.

Vikings right offensive tackle Mike Remmers started 42 consecutive games with Carolina before joining Minnesota for this season.

Those storylines aside, both teams understand the importance of the matchup.

The Panthers want to rid the taste of a defeat that might have seemed devastating but doesn’t have to be the end-all.

“One game doesn’t define you Authentic Oren Burks Jersey ,” Carolina linebacker Luke Kuechly said.

The Vikings see the next few games as providing an avenue to better things.

“These December games are really going to be important as we continue to move forward,” Zimmer said.

CHARLOTTE Authentic Welington Castillo Jersey , N.C. (AP) Jonathan Stewart saw huge running lanes, ran with some familiar punch – and held onto the football, too.

It was a reminder that the Carolina Panthers’ 10-year veteran still has some burst left in his legs, not to mention the ability to shake off an uncharacteristically bad performance.

A week after losing two fumbles, Stewart cracked the 100-yard rushing mark for the first time this season to lead Carolina’s huge rushing performance in a 45-21 win against the Miami Dolphins on Monday night.

Article continues below ...

Stewart ran for 110 yards on 17 carries – including one in which he hurdled cornerback Cordrea Tankersley near the sideline – in his first 100-yard game since finishing with 132 yards in a win against Washington in December.

”I think first of all he came back and you could see it on his face Cheap Bradley Chubb Jersey ,” Panthers coach Ron Rivera said. ”There was a little bit of resolve. He took it personally. He blamed itself. … You saw the competitiveness of who he is come out.”

Stewart has always provided Carolina with tough-yardage runs, though he didn’t need much of that Monday with the huge holes being opened by Carolina’s offensive line. The Panthers flirted with a franchise single-game rushing record before finishing with 294 yards while setting the mark for total offense with 543 yards.

It comes at a perfect time for Stewart to maintain his long-standing position as mainstay of the Panthers’ backfield, even though he shrugged off the suggestion that his play was motivated by sending any sort of message.

”Last week, obviously, was pretty uncharacteristic 49ers Jonathan Cooper Jersey ,” Stewart said. ”Just glad I have another opportunity to come out here and help my team win.”

Stewart hadn’t run for more than 68 yards in a game this season. And with first-round rookie Christian McCaffrey also getting carries, Stewart had gotten just 11 carries in each of the past two games – and hadn’t done much with them by averaging just 2.5 yards per attempt.

Then there were the two fumbles in last week’s home win against Atlanta, marking the first two-turnover game of his career. It was the smudge on a season-best rushing performance (201 yards on 38 carries) that included McCaffrey earning a season-high 15 carries.

But Panthers offensive coordinator Mike Shula said earlier in the week that he still believed in Stewart, who set the franchise’s career rushing mark earlier this season. The players seemed to feel the same.

”Him trying to get extra yards, you risk that sometimes Authentic Kendall Wright Jersey ,” said receiver Devin Funchess, who had a pair of touchdown grabs. ”But he’s going to make more big plays than slipups for us. For me, I don’t hold that against him and nobody else in the locker room should, because the amount of effort and grind he puts in throughout the week and on Sundays is a beautiful thing.”

Getting Stewart back into gear has the potential to drive an offense that also got a big rushing game from quarterback Cam Newton (95 yards) while losing a threat in the passing game with rookie receiver Curtis Samuel going down with an ankle injury.

Stewart isn’t changing his approach, either.

”Just a little bit more attention to details in certain things Authentic Mats Zuccarello Jersey , whatever it is,” Stewart said. ”But at the end of the day, I’m not trying to switch anything too crazy or anything like that. Just come to work, have the mindset of doing your job.”
