While that was a season high for Bowman and matched the most by any Oakland linebacker this season, Bowman left his biggest mark in the huddle and on the sideline where he helped settle a defense that had been mostly erratic through six games.

Raiders defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. wasn’t too surprised.

That Bowman played as well as he did shouldn’t have come as much of a surprise. He was a four-time All-Pro and a centerpiece to four top-five defenses during six-plus seasons in San Francisco.

Bowman was also one of the few remaining links to the team’s run of three consecutive appearances in the NFC championship game before the 49ers released him on Oct. 13.

Three days later, Bowman was in a Raiders uniform and cramming like a college student for midterms.

”I love challenges and I felt like last week was a challenge for me personally and a risk for the Raiders to take with putting me out there so fast,” Bowman said.

”I didn’t want to let them down and I also wanted to step up to the challenge. With me having this full week of preparation I look to get better at the calls and the defense.”

Bowman wasn’t content with learning just the basics of the Raiders defensive schemes, even though he had less than 72 hours to cram before Oakland’s game against Kansas City last week. He and linebackers coach Sal Sunseri worked overtime to get Bowman ready.

The result – a defense that was still uneven, but held the Chiefs scoreless in the fourth quarter and forced a three-and-out on Kansas City’s final possession Dolphins Kalen Ballage Jersey , setting the stage for the Raiders’ latest fourth-quarter comeback behind quarterback Derek Carr.

”He was obsessed with playing and playing every down,” Norton said. ”We came into it trying to give him just little pieces of the meal and he wanted the whole feast, he wanted the whole plate. He was prepared, he was ready, he wanted it. His performance was just a result of the way he prepared during the week.”

Questions over Bowman’s health – he tore the ACL in his left knee during the 2014 NFC championship game and missed 12 games a year earlier because of a torn Achilles – were partly why he was let go by the 49ers. San Francisco is also in a rebuild and wants to go younger – first-round pick Reuben Foster was moved to middle linebacker after Bowman was let go.

To have him on our team and to see it first hand and to have the younger players see that example of that’s what it takes, that’s what it looks like and to get the type of results he did is very important for our young guys. If the U.S. took it hard missing out on the World Cup for the first time since 1986, the result was downright calamitous for the soccer-mad Italians . They’ve won the championship four times, most recently in 2006, but they’ll be stuck at home for the next one. ”It’s a black moment for our game,” midfielder Daniele De Rossi said after being eliminated by Sweden. The Los Angeles Rams running back arrived with the team in London on Friday after an overnight flight from Florida, where they spent the week following their win over Jacksonville last Sunday.

Gurley said that’s simply too much travel to take on the Arizona Cardinals, a division rival from a neighboring state.

”It just doesn’t make sense,” Gurley told reporters after the team’s practice session at their luxury resort outside London. ”We play Arizona; it’s a 45-minute flight. But instead we’ve got Arizona and us (here). If we were to travel all the way from L.A. it’s 13 hours to travel, when you can just travel 45 minutes. But hey, whatever floats their boat.”

That would be the boat of NFL bosses who are using these games to grow the game’s brand in the UK and beyond.

This is the 10th year that the league has staged its International Series in the British capital Cheap Logan Woodside Jersey , which has grown from one game a year in 2007 to four games this season. The Rams also came over last year and – like most teams who have played in London – have largely stuck to the script about it being a positive experience.

DEEP THREAT

Jay Cutler returned to give Miami’s worst-in-the-NFL offense some life. After missing one game with cracked ribs, he completed his first 16 throws and finished with 311 yards passing and three scores.

The offense also overcame the recent trade of leading rusher Jay Ajayi. Running backs Kenyan Drake and Damien Williams each made six catches, and Drake had a 42-yard run to set up a touchdown.

PROTEST

Dolphins players Julius Thomas, Michael Thomas and Kenny Stills knelt during the national anthem for the first time since coach Adam Gase established a rule requiring players either to stand for the anthem or stay in the tunnel.

Before recent games, the three players waited in the tunnel. But they told Gase the wait was interfering with their game preparation, according to a person familiar with the discussions.

The person said Gase told them he preferred they stand during the anthem but respected their right to express themselves and relaxed the team rule. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the Dolphins didn’t comment on the latest protests.

GRETNA Bills Taron Johnson Jersey , La. (AP) The trial in a road-rage shooting that took the life of former NFL football player Joe McKnight began Tuesday in a New Orleans suburb, where a judge and attorneys were questioning dozens of potential jurors.

Ronald Gasser, 56, is charged with second-degree murder in the Dec. 1 Jets Thomas Rawls Jersey , 2016, shooting of the player who began his career as a local high school football star. Initially charged with manslaughter, Gasser was indicted on the more serious charge last February. He has pleaded not guilty.

He played college ball at Southern California before three seasons with the New York Jets and one with the Kansas City Chiefs.

A jury was seated late Tuesday in the courtroom of state District Judge Ellen Kovach but the trial will be delayed due to icy weather conditions. Opening arguments could begin Thursday. Gasser’s attorneys have cast McKnight as the aggressor and are expected to argue Gasser fired in self-defense.

If convicted as charged, Gasser would face a mandatory sentence of life in prison.

Police said the confrontation took place as the men traveled across a Mississippi River bridge in New Orleans and on roads in neighboring Jefferson Parish.

Authorities said the shooting happened after both cars had stopped and McKnight approached Gasser’s vehicle. Gasser shot McKnight three times.

Defense attorneys said last year that they believe McKnight tried to enter Gasser’s car through the passenger window. They noted that Gasser stayed on the scene after the shooting and said he cooperated with police.

The case bore striking similarities to an earlier 2016 shooting death involving another former NFL player. Will Smith, who retired after starring on New Orleans Saints teams that inspired the city after Hurricane Katrina with winning seasons and a 2010 Super Bowl victory Cheap Robert Golden Jersey , was shot to death during a confrontation following a traffic crash. A 29-year-old New Orleans man, Cardell Hayes, was sentenced to 25 years in prison after a jury convicted him of manslaughter.

Ribs. Thumb. Knee. Hip. Back. Ankle.

The ankle twice, in fact.

”Whew! All that?” he asked, sounding a bit incredulous.

Then, with a slight smile and shaking his head, Jones added, ”Long season, man. Long season.”

He’s got a routine to cope with all the aches and pains.

During the week, Jones is often limited in practice or doesn’t even take the field. But by the time the game rolls around, he’s always ready to go.

”He has a real process to do that,” coach Dan Quinn said. ”We’re fortunate that he’s played with injuries and kind of knows the routine of how to do it.”

That will be the case again for Saturday’s NFC divisional playoff game against the top-seeded Philadelphia Eagles .

After sitting out two days of practice with a sore ankle and going through a limited routine Thursday at the final full workout before the game Cheap Ryan Allen Jersey , the star receiver will be in the starting lineup for the 18th consecutive time this season.

”The thing with being injured, it’s really just blocking it out,” Jones said. ”Don’t use it as an excuse.”

Quinn noted that the Falcons usually have an extensive walk-through before each practice, and that’s a session that Jones rarely misses no matter how much he’s hurting. He uses the time to get familiar with the game plan, run some routes and hone his timing with quarterback Matt Ryan.

If Jones is limited during the actual practice, he focuses on plays in which he’ll likely be the primary receiver.

”We try to feature him on plays that are unique for him and Matt to be at full speed,” Quinn said. ”When he goes, it’s these full-speed, aggressive routes. So that helps him as far as the timing goes.”

Jones has been on the injury report eight of the last 10 weeks, along with two other weeks early in the season.

None of the injuries were serious enough to keep him from playing http://www.newyorkgiantsteamonline.com/saquon-barkley-jersey , but they did require plenty of tender loving care to make sure there were no setbacks. That’s why, over the course of the last four months, the injury report has listed him as limited or out of practice more times than he’s fully participated.

Game day is a different story.

”If you say you’re gonna go, go. Don’t bring it up in the middle of the game,” he said. ”We know it hurts. Don’t let your mind be negative. Just stay positive. If something’s hurting or anything like that, I never relay it back to (the sideline). I know it hurts. You don’t want to talk about it and bring that stuff up during the game. If I suit up, I’m going. I’m not saying anything about it.”

A turning point in Jones’ pain threshold came during his sophomore season at Alabama. He broke his left hand in a game, had surgery the next day and was cleared to play the following week.

He wasn’t at his best.

”I was a little timid to catch just because of the pain,” Jones recalled. ”It was messing with me mentally.”

Since then, he’s learned to block out his various injuries.

”It’s gonna hurt Bills Taron Johnson Jersey ,” Jones said. ”But I’m out here. I made the decision to be out here. I don’t care about it hurting.”

Jones’ production dipped this season, part of a wider drop-off under first-year offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, and there have been a few more drops than previous seasons – most notably, what should have been an easy 39-yard touchdown catch in a November loss at Carolina .

But, overall, it’s been another huge season for Jones. He had 88 catches for 1,444 yards – an average of 90.3 per game – and earned second-team honors on The Associated Press All-Pro team.

He’s usually even better in the playoffs.

Last week, he had nine catches for 94 yards and a touchdown with just under 6 minutes remaining that finished off a 26-13 upset of the Los Angeles Rams in the wild-card round.

”It’s win or go home,” Jones said. ”I’m not a numbers guy. Whatever it takes to get the win.”

Jones also got to do a bit of gloating this week after his alma mater won another national championship with a 26-23 overtime victory over Georgia.

Not that he had any doubt about the outcome. Jones didn’t attend the game, even though it was held at the Falcons’ home stadium Cheap Josh Allen Jersey , and insisted that he went to bed before halftime.

”I was out,” he said. ”I didn’t learn (the score) until the next morning. I was like, `Oh, that was a good game.”’

Someone noticed he wasn’t wearing any Alabama gear.

”When you’re accustomed to things,” Jones said, trying to hold back a smile, ”you don’t brag.”

Sanjay Lal, who has worked with receivers for four NFL teams over the past 11 seasons, is the new receivers coach in what could be a crucial year for 2014 All-Pro Dez Bryant’s future in Dallas. After spending last season with Indianapolis, Lal replaces Derek Dooley Eagles Paul Worrilow Jersey , who left to become offensive coordinator at Missouri.

Moore’s move is part of a significant overhaul to coach Jason Garrett’s staff. Although offensive coordinator Scott Linehan and defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli are returning, eight new coaches and two promotions were announced Friday.

Sanjay Lal, who has worked with receivers for four NFL teams over the past 11 seasons, is the new receivers coach in what could be a crucial year for 2014 All-Pro Dez Bryant’s future in Dallas. After spending last season with Indianapolis, Lal replaces Derek Dooley Eagles Paul Worrilow Jersey , who left to become offensive coordinator at Missouri.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) Just call them the unopportunistic Jets.

New York forced three turnovers in quick succession against the Saints and scored a total of three points off of them on Sunday. The 31-19 loss – their seventh in nine games – officially eliminated them from the playoffs.

”When you get three turnovers Cheap Logan Woodside Jersey , normally you win the game,” Jets coach Todd Bowles said. ”We fought, but we just didn’t make enough plays.”

The offense and third-year quarterback Bryce Petty, making his first start of the season in place of the injured Josh McCown, really came up empty when the defense gave them a boost.
