SO MANY INJURED STARS

That there are so many injuries is not surprising. This is the NFL, remember? But that so many superstars are sidelined for the rest of the season is striking. Watt and Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. at the top, along with important players such as Watson, Colts QB Andrew Luck and Patriots WR Julian Edelman.

New coach Doug Marrone has the perennially terrible Jaguars tied for first in the AFC South at 5-3, matching their best start in a decade. A dancing defense and better-than-expected Josh McCown have made the Jets far more respectable than anyone imagined at 4-5.

TRADES GALORE

The NFL trade deadline is usually a dud, but this time there were real moves that could end up mattering this season and beyond. Such as the 49ers getting QB Jimmy Garoppolo from the Patriots; the Eagles landing RB Jay Ajayi from the Dolphins; the Bills picking up WR Kelvin Benjamin from the Panthers; and the Seahawks acquiring LT Duane Brown from the Texans.

Carson Wentz is having an MVP-caliber season and is a major reason why a team that wasn’t supposed to be ready to contend has become a front-runner to win the NFC.

PROTECTING THE BALL: Turnovers are a big reason why the Broncos have lost three straight games. They have 10 giveaways during the stretch and are minus-11 overall. Teams that have at least three turnovers in a game are 3-40 this season.

”Winning starts with protecting the football,” Osweiler said. ”When you win the turnover margin and when you don’t turn the ball over at all Seahawks Barkevious Mingo Jersey , your chances of winning skyrocket.”

STINGY DEFENSE: The Broncos have the league’s top-ranked defense, so it’ll be a big test for Wentz and the rest of Philadelphia’s high-powered offense. Miller has seven sacks and Aqib Talib and Chris Harris form perhaps the best cornerback tandem in the NFL.

Gurley finished with 215 total yards – 121 rushing and 94 receiving – as the Rams overcame two first-half touchdowns from Ezekiel Elliott the day before a federal appeals court hearing related to the star Dallas running back’s blocked six-game suspension over a domestic incident in Ohio.

The Rams (3-1) rallied from 11 points down late in the first half and matched their start from a year ago, when they went 1-11 the rest of the way as No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff was sitting and later lost the first seven starts of his career.

Goff showed more poise in first-year coach Sean McVay’s offense, throwing for 255 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. He has seven TD passes and one interception this season.

”I watched Zeke a ton,” Hunt said of his senior year at Toledo, when Elliott and quarterback Dak Prescott, his fellow rookie, were powering the Cowboys to the best record in the NFC. ”Dak played pretty well and so did he. I was able to watch and see all the great runs he had. I kind of wanted to come in and have a year like he did his rookie season.”

Lynch should be able to bring a boost to a Raiders offense that has struggled at times through the first eight games of the season.

The Raiders rushed for just 54 yards on 14 carries in a 34-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday without Lynch, but they have also struggled to get him involved when he is available to play.

Lynch has 266 yards on 72 carries this season and hasn’t gotten more than 13 carries in any game since the season opener against the Tennessee Titans. He had just two carries for 9 yards against the Chiefs.

Coach Jack Del Rio said that he would like to see the team play a more physical and aggressive game in the second half of the season. Quarterback Derek Carr said that Lynch can provide that on the field.
