The U. S. Supreme Court on Thursday left in place Online Cigarettes Store USA  an agreement that allows Rhode Island residents to vote by mail in two upcoming elections without signing their ballots in the presence of two witnesses or a notary.

State officials had agreed to suspend the requirement because of the coronavirus pandemic. They have said that fulfilling the requirement results in close contact between voters Newport Cigarettes Shop  and others, which could expose people to the virus.

The high court rejected an effort by the Republican National Committee and the Republican Party of Rhode Island to put the agreement on hold, noting that “no state official has expressed opposition. ”

Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch would have put the agreement on hold.

Rhode Island allows voters to request to vote by mail for any reason, and the coronavirus has resulted in an enormous increase in mail-in voting.

Republicans argued that witness requirements Newport box 100s cigarettes deter voter fraud, though elections experts say voter fraud is rare. And they said the state is already allowing 20 days of early voting that will reduce the number of people who go to the polls on Election Day and has put in place other protections for voters and poll workers. The case arose after Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo, a Democrat, in April suspended the so-called two witness requirement for the state’s June 2 presidential primary.

In July, the American Civil Liberties Union brought a lawsuit on behalf of Common Cause Rhode Island, the League of Women Voters of Rhode Island and others in an effort to extend the suspension.

State officials ultimately agreed to keep the requirement suspended for the Sept. 8 primary and Nov. 3 general election. Republicans objected, but a judge approved the agreement.

The Supreme Court noted in its brief order Thursday that the most recent election had been held without the witness requirement: “The status quo is one in which the challenged requirement has not been in effect, given the rules used in Rhode Island’s last election, and many Rhode Island voters may well hold that belief. ”.

President Trump on Tuesday said he had been “sailing” to reelection before the coronavirus pandemic struck the United States and could have won reelection even if he were running against George Online Cigarettes Store USA Washington.

“George Washington would have had a hard time beating me before the plague came in, before the China plague, ” Trump said in an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. “And then, you know, like every other nation, like other countries, when you get hit,Newport Cigarettes Shop  it affects you, and we went down a little bit. And then we went down a little bit more, and now we’re coming up at a level that we haven’t seen. ”

“I was sailing, ” the president continued. “I mean, we were going, we were going very good, Hugh. It was really looking good, and then we got hit by the plague. And now, people are respecting the way we’ve handled that. ”

In both national polls and surveys of key swing states, Trump has fallen behind former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, as voters register widespread disapproval of the president’s response to a pandemic that has killed more than 160, 000 Americans and infected more than 5 million.

The president also suggested that if Biden were to Newport box 100s cigarettes win the election, everyone in the United States would have to learn to speak Chinese.

“Look, China will own the United States if this election is lost by Donald Trump, ” he said. “If I don’t win the election, China will own the United States. You’re going to have to learn to speak Chinese, you want to know the truth. ”.

In February, Democrats began getting anxious Online Cigarettes Store USA  about the crucial Senate race in North Carolina. An unknown Republican-affiliated group was suddenly pouring millions of dollars behind the candidacy of Erica Smith, a progressive state senator who they believed had no chance of winning the seat in November.

So party leaders began spending millions of their own to bolster Cal Cunningham, a military veteran they had endorsed months earlier whom they saw as their best chance to defeat a vulnerable incumbent Republican, Sen. Thom Tillis. With significant party help, Cunningham prevailed Newport Cigarettes Shop and is now in a strong position against Tillis, making him one of 14 candidates endorsed early by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee who either froze out their opposition entirely or won their primaries.

Democrats took some heat for playing early favorites, including for passing over Black candidates like Smith, Charles Booker in Kentucky and Royce West in Texas, although they endorsed five candidates of color. But the strategy has paid off. With the general election field essentially set and the heart of the campaign season beginning, Democrats, riding public dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump’s handling of the pandemic, now find themselves with a solid chance to take control of the Senate next year.

Although Democrats did not get the Republican opponent they Newport box 100s cigarettes wanted in Kansas, polls show Democratic contenders are ahead or running even with incumbents in at least seven states, with the potential to bring even more into play. They need a net gain of only three seats to take the majority should former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive nominee, win the White House — four if he does not.

Along with the pandemic, Biden’s candidacy has expanded the playing field for Democrats by depriving Republicans of some of the anti-socialist message they intended to employ had Bernie Sanders been the nominee.
