YouTube
Is Reinstating Crypto-Related Content After Calling the Purge a “Mistake”
The Google-owned video sharing
platform YouTube is now re-enabling cryptocurrency-related content on the
platform, days after unilaterally deleting videos from dozens of content creators
for their content being marked as “harmful and dangerous” and for the “sale
of regulated goods.”
On social media, YouTube
admitted that removing cryptocurrency-related content “was an error” on its
side “during the review process.” In a statement nearly identical to others
the company shared after inadvertently purging videos from other niches, a
spokesperson said:
“With the massive volume of videos on our
site, sometimes we make the wrong call. When it's brought to our attention
that a video has been removed mistakenly, we act quickly to reinstate it. We
also offer uploaders the ability to appeal removals and we will re-review the
content.”
The spokesperson clarified
YouTube hasn’t changed its policies when it comes to cryptocurrencies.
Nevertheless, some YouTubers claim their content isn’t being reinstated. Some
keep on calling for a decentralized alternative, with DTube and Steemit being
thrown around options.
