SEATTLE (AP) Doug Baldwin spent the week preparing for the inevitable reality http://www.cincinnatibengalsteamonline.com/cordy-glenn-jersey , knowing that even with a victory it was going to be difficult for the Seattle Seahawks to make the playoffs for a sixth straight season.
”For it to end this way is really just disappointing,” Baldwin said. ”Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for all the years we have played in the playoffs, for getting nine wins. But there is more out there. There is definitely more out there for us.”
Seattle will have an entire offseason to lament its issues after Sunday’s 26-24 loss to Arizona to finish the 2017 season.
Article continues below ...The Seahawks started the day needing help for the first time in Pete Carroll’s tenure if they were going to make the playoffs. Seattle (9-7) needed to beat the Cardinals and get a Carolina victory over Atlanta to earn a wild-card berth.
Neither fell in Seattle’s favor. The Falcons beat the Panthers moments after Phil Dawson gave the Cardinals the lead with his fourth field goal.
Even with the playoff hopes dashed, Seattle had one more chance to still finish with at least 10 wins for the sixth straight season.
Russell Wilson led one final drive with key completions to Baldwin and Jimmy Graham along the way. But Blair Walsh’s 48-yard attempt with 32 seconds remaining missed wide right, his eighth missed kick this season.
The way the finale played out and Walsh’s missed kick was a microcosm of Seattle’s season. Early struggles Cheap Brian Allen Jersey , followed by a second-half rally and ultimately too much inconsistency and too many missed opportunities that left the Seahawks on the outside of the playoffs.
”The slow starts, the getting in our own way, making it hard on us at times when it wasn’t about the opponent, it was about us,” Carroll said. ”There is a lot of stuff that kind of showed up again today.”

”I had some big games and some moments where I came up short. So it’s a tough year, it’s a weird year,” Walsh said.
Then again, if Seattle didn’t have another awful first half on Sunday, it
wouldn’t have come down to Walsh. Seattle was flat from the start with only
Tyler Lockett’s 99-yard kickoff return touchdown keeping them close in the first
half.
At one point of the second quarter, the Cardinals were outgaining Seattle 140-0 and had an 11-0 edge on first downs.
Russell Wilson was tentative with his throws http://www.cincinnatibengalsteamonline.com/sam-hubbard-jersey , pressured too often by Arizona’s defensive front and Seattle’s run game was again absent. The result was a 20-7 halftime deficit which could have been worse.
And as was the case most of the season, Wilson woke up in the second half. He threw a pair of touchdowns to Baldwin, including a great 29-yard TD catch early in the fourth quarter to give Seattle a 26-24 lead. But a trio of personal fouls in the second half ended up being significant.
Thomas Rawls was called for unsportsmanlike conduct and knocked Seattle out of field-goal range. Frank Clark and Bobby Wagner both picked up personal fouls for hitting Drew Stanton late. The foul on Wagner kept alive Arizona’s final drive that led to Dawson’s final field goal that proved to be the winner.
”We expected more out of ourselves, but that’s just the way it rolls,” defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson said.
The Seahawks are likely facing their most extensive overhaul of Carroll’s tenure. They’ve gotten old and expensive in certain positions and trades for Richardson and Duane Brown in an attempt to win this season have left Seattle void of some key draft picks.
Both Earl Thomas and Michael Bennett questioned whether they’d be back next season. Seattle has injury concerns with Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Cliff Avril Cheap Jerome Baker Jersey , who all had major season-ending injuries.
”I have no clue, I have no clue. I know for sure that I’m going to win in the end, regardless,” Thomas said.

Florida’s attorney general doesn’t want O.J. Simpson to return to Florida after he’s released from prison in Nevada.
Article continues below ...Attorney General Pam Bondi sent a letter to Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Julie L. Jones on Friday saying that she should immediately tell Nevada officials that Florida objects to Simpson serving his parole in Florida.

O.J. Simpson’s lawyer says the former football star will live in Florida as planned after being released from a Nevada prison.
Malcolm LaVergne tells The Associated Press that there’s ”no doubt” Simpson is going to Florida. It’s not clear where. He says the timing of Simpson’s release is up to authorities and he doesn’t know when it will be.
Citing safety concerns Cheap Derrius Guice Jersey , Nevada prisons spokeswoman Brooke Keast says Simpson could be kept at a corrections facility for several weeks if necessary.
A state parole board in July set Sunday as the date for Simpson to walk free.

Kyle Murphy went on injured reserve this week, joining two other backup tackles knocked out by injuries.

”Part of the puzzle is keeping our QB upright and that’s the most important thing,” Packers offensive coordinator Edgar Bennett said.

SERIES HISTORY: For the first time since 1932, the Packers have a chance to take a lead in a series tied at 94-94-6. McCarthy knows that’s a big enough deal to the fans that he makes a presentation about the history and tradition of the series to his team during Bears week.

There was this little thing called the depth chart, and they weren’t at the top of it.
”We had a lot of guys in front of us at first,” said Lewis, a third-round pick out of Michigan. ”We were just trying to learn the playbook in training camp and we didn’t know that we would have this opportunity coming late in the season.”
Article continues below ...It’s coming because of injuries, attrition and a demotion, leading to the possibility that all three could start Sunday at the New York Giants (2-10) as the Cowboys (6-6) try to keep faint playoff hopes alive.
For Dallas Cheap Ian Thomas Jersey , it could be the best look yet at the future in the secondary after letting four veterans go in free agency and drafting four potential replacements .
Awuzie was the highest draft choice, a second-rounder out of Colorado, so logic had him being the first to get significant playing time before hamstring issues kept him out of six of his first nine games.
Lewis played nearly 90 percent of the snaps in Week 2 at Denver after injuries to Awuzie and free agent pickup Nolan Carroll, who was later released. He’s been out there ever since and is tied for the team lead with seven pass breakups.
Woods was the long shot as a sixth-round pick, listed as a safety coming in but now set to play cornerback in the slot with Orlando Scandrick expected to miss at least one game because of a small fracture in his back sustained in last week’s 38-14 win over Washington.
Anthony Brown started 10 of the first 11 games after a strong rookie season as a sixth-rounder last year. He’s been penalty-prone, though, and the Cowboys decided to shake things up when Philip Rivers of the LA Chargers threw for 434 yards on Thanksgiving in Dallas’ third straight loss.
Brown’s demotion coincided with Awuzie’s return from the hamstring woes.
Awuzie’s three pass breakups against the Redskins matched Lewis for the most in
a game for a Dallas defensive back this season.

Still, the longtime coach is undaunted by the prospect of three rookies on the field most of the snaps.

Byron Jones and Jeff Heath, the starting safeties all season, are the most experienced defensive backs with Scandrick out. But the Cowboys haven’t hesitated to juggle their spots when they’ve struggled.

Ajayi had 77 yards rushing, including a 46-yard TD run to put Philadelphia ahead 31-9 in the second quarter. Ajayi, a 2016 Pro Bowl pick Cheap Andre Tippett Jersey , led a ground attack that had 197 yards rushing. Clement had 51 yards and LeGarrette Blount added 37.
”Definitely believe we can do a lot of special things here,” Ajayi said. ”Glad to be part of the dynamic that we have in there.”
BROCK’S NOT THE ANSWER: The Broncos need more than Osweiler to turn things around. He was no better than Trevor Siemian, who was benched after throwing three picks in a loss to the Chiefs. Osweiler was 19 of 38 for 208 yards and one TD. He took three sacks, threw two picks and made bad decisions.
”I’m not going to be discouraged,” he said. ”The more game experience you
get, the better you’re going to get. That’s where we are.”
MORE WEAPONS: The addition of Ajayi gives an already deep offense even more weapons. Even without tight end Zach Ertz, one of the top players in the league Bills Russell Bodine Jersey , the Eagles scored 51 points against an excellent defense. Backup tight ends Brent Celek and Trey Burton combined for five catches for 80 yards and one TD.

”They always don’t give us credit, but we have to go out there and put people on notice that the Eagles are new and improved,” defensive end Brandon Graham said.
BRIGHT SPOT: Denver’s Brandon McManus kicked field goals of 52, 53 and 24 yards. He was only 10 for 15 coming in and 8 for 17 in his career beyond 50.
EAGLES’ MARKS: Philly is 8-1 for the fifth time in franchise history (1949, 1960, 1980 and 2004). The team advanced to the NFL championship game or Super Bowl in each of the previous four instances.

Jacksonville’s latest defensive gem – a 10-3 victory against Buffalo (9-8) on Sunday – set up a rematch with the Steelers (13-3).
The Jaguars stunned Pittsburgh in the first meeting, a 30-9 win in which Ben Roethlisberger threw five interceptions, was sacked twice and finished with the lowest passer rating of his career.
”The game was a great illustration on if we play the way we’re capable of playing, then we can beat anybody like that,” Jaguars cornerback Aaron Colvin said.

Blake Bortles completed 12 of 23 passes for 87 yards, with a touchdown. Bortles was off all day, but made up for it with his legs . He ran for 88 yards, becoming the second starting quarterback in the past 25 years to win a playoff game with more rushing yards than passing. Atlanta’s Michael Vick also did it against the St. Louis Rams in the 2004 playoffs.

It was enough Sunday, at least with a defense this stingy.
”I think we should hold every team to zero because that’s just the kind of defense we are,” Colvin said. ”Teams are going to move the ball and make plays, but at the end of the day, we’re the most dominant defense in the league. We’ve got to hold teams to zero.”
They might need to if Bortles and the league’s top rushing offense don’t play better.
Leonard Fournette ran 21 times for 57 yards against a defense that had been giving up nearly 125 a game. It didn’t help that Bortles misfired early and often.
He put together one decent drive, making as many plays with his feet as his arm, and capped it with a 1-yard scoring pass to backup tight end Ben Koyack on a gutsy, fourth-and-goal call.

The Raiders flew to upstate New York on Friday to begin their extended road trip that features road games at Buffalo and Miami with a week of practice in Florida in between.
Coach Jack Del Rio had his team spend a week in Florida between games at Jacksonville and Tampa Bay last year and the Raiders ended up sweeping that road trip. With that in mind, the team is set to do it again.

The players and coaches will pack an extra bag that will be sent straight to Sarasota, Florida, where the Raiders will practice at the IMG Academy next week before heading to Miami for the weekend.
