The Cowboys now have all of their 2018 draft picks under contract.

Wide receiver Michael Gallup was the only one without a deal to start the week and the team announced on Monday that the third-round pick has agreed to a four-year deal. The Cowboys picked nine players overall during last month’s draft.

Gallup caught聽176 passes for 2 Frans Nielsen Jersey Kids ,685 yards and 21 touchdowns at Colorado State over the last two seasons. He joins a Cowboys receiver group that’s going to look much different than recent seasons thanks to Dez Bryant‘s departure and the addition of several new faces. That turnover should make a big role available to Gallup right away if he makes a smooth transition to the professional game.

The Cowboys also waived offensive lineman Jarron Jones and signed guard Damien Mama in other Monday moves.

The New York Giants have released five players, but only one who saw action in a regular-season game last season.

The Giants announced the moves Monday Joel Edmundson Jersey , four days before the start of a rookie minicamp.

Released were safety Ryan Murphy, guard Damien Mama Bobby Orr Jersey , receiver Canaan Severin, running back Terrell Watson http://www.officialknightsproshop.com/authentic-adidas-brad-hunt-jersey , and punter Austin Rehkow.

Murphy played in the final three contests in 2017 and had one tackle on special teams.

Mama was signed on Dec. 12 off the Chiefs' practice squad and was inactive for the last three games. Severin was in training camp and on the practice squad for a week. He signed a reserve/futures contract on Jan. 1, the same day Rehkow was signed.

Watson was signed by the Giants on Jan. 24.

The San Francisco 49ers have acquired offensive lineman Shon Coleman from the Cleveland Browns for a 2019 seventh-round draft pick.

Coleman still must pass a physical for the deal made Friday to become official. The Niners were seeking more depth on the offensive line as they cut their roster to 53 players before Saturday's deadline.

Coleman was originally a third-round pick by the Browns in 2016. He started 16 games at right tackle last season.

San Francisco also released 12 players: offensive linemen JP Flynn Kyle Fuller Jersey , Chris Gonzalez, Pace Murphy and Darrell Williams; running backs Ja'Quan Gardner and Joe Williams; defensive linemen Chris Jones and Will Sutton; quarterback Jack Heneghan; punter Jeff Locke; receiver Aldrick Robinson; and tight end Wes Saxton.

Nate Schmidt spent the previous four seasons playing for the Washington Capitals, and he personally experienced the heartbreak of their recent playoff disappointments. The defenseman understands why many people thought this talented, experienced team might never win a championship.

Schmidt and his many good friends with the Caps are finally in the Stanley Cup Final this week. Only they’re on opposite benches after the Vegas Golden Knights grabbed Schmidt in the expansion draft and wouldn’t give him back.

Schmidt was Washington’s sixth defenseman last season, but he now leads the Golden Knights in ice time. The improbable matchup in Monday night’s series opener puts a bewildered grin on Schmidt’s face.

”Yeah, I don’t think you could have written this up any better for me,” he said Sunday.

Both of his franchises are in the midst of banner years, and Schmidt won’t argue with the idea that he deserves a small part of the credit.

Or maybe the blame.

”I really enjoyed my time in Washington,” Schmidt said. ”I thought that team was special http://www.buffalobillsteamonline.com/marcus-murphy-jersey , and we still had a good chance to go and do something, and here they are, proving it.”

Schmidt stops himself as another grin invades his serious interview session.

”I must have been the reason why!” he said. ”I must have been the problem.”

Not likely. Schmidt’s irrepressible personality and two-way acumen have made him one of the Golden Knights’ most valuable players during their improbable inaugural season.

He surpassed his previous career highs with five goals and 31 assists while doing steady work on the back end. Given extensive responsibilities in Vegas after playing a smaller role in Washington, Schmidt has taken a major step forward.

”The perception of your game could be remodeled and redone, and I think that’s the coolest part of what we’ve been able to do here in Vegas,” Schmidt said. ”You have guys that have been able to revamp their image or revamp their style, and for other guys to grow into the players that people may not have thought they could be.”

Schmidt might have had this success in Washington if he had stuck around. He had begun to assert himself in a pairing with John Carlson, the Caps’ No. 1 defenseman.

”We were playing together last season, and that’s probably how it would have started out again this season Chris Thompson Jersey ,” said Carlson, who led all NHL blueliners this season with 68 points. ”So there’s a little disappointment from that, but obviously he’s done really well for himself. That’s no surprise. I wish him all the best, but not for these next two weeks.”

Schmidt has been particularly effective in the playoffs. Partnered with former Kings defenseman Brayden McNabb in the Knights’ top pairing, Schmidt has provided energy, timely scoring and strong back-end play while Vegas roared past Los Angeles, San Jose and Winnipeg with just three losses.

Schmidt knows more about the Caps than his teammates, so he realizes the enormity of their task. He’ll lead the Golden Knights’ efforts to minimize Alex Ovechkin’s time and space with the puck.

”He’s a beast,” Schmidt said. ”I played against him in practice for a long time Taylor Gabriel Jersey , so hopefully I know a few tendencies of his. But in reality, he’s a player that can shoot the puck from anywhere.”

Schmidt’s unusual perspective on this series is matched only by Vegas general manager George McPhee. Before the Caps fired him in 2014, McPhee acquired many of the players on Washington’s roster – including Schmidt, an undrafted free agent out of the University of Minnesota, in 2013.

McPhee acquired him again last summer for Vegas, but Washington general manager Brian MacLellan tried hard to keep him with a post-draft trade. If anybody could have made a deal, it’s these two men, who have known each other for 44 years since their bantam playing days in Guelph, Ontario http://www.buffalobillsteamonline.com/corey-bojorquez-jersey , followed by college careers at Bowling Green and several years together in Washington’s front office.

Not even a childhood friendship could keep Schmidt away from his new destiny in Vegas.

”We made our selection, and then he called and asked if there’s any way we could do a deal for him to get Schmidt back,” McPhee recalled. ”And I said, `I don’t see anything, but we’ll try to come up with something to give you a chance to say no.’ We made a proposal that I didn’t think would work, and it didn’t work. Our guys liked Schmidt.”

NAPA Jerrell Freeman Jersey , Calif. (AP) — Because he isn’t likely to play more than a series or two in Friday’s preseason opener, Detroit quarterback Matt Stafford has a few modest goals for the Lions offense.

“Just execute and communicate at a high level,” Stafford said Wednesday. “Get out there and communicate and make sure everybody’s on the same page. At the end of the day, on offense if everybody’s communicating on the same page you’re going to have a chance to be successful. That’s the biggest thing, go out there and make sure that we’re just playing good, sound football.”

The Lions spent the past two days conducting joint workouts with Oakland at the Raiders’ training camp facilities in the heart of Napa Valley wine country.

Following Tuesday’s 2 1/2-hour practice, which was highlighted by a multi-player brawl that ended a team scrimmage session, the Lions packed up to travel to a hotel 75 miles south of Napa where they’ll stay until Friday’s game.

Detroit first-year coach Matt Patricia declined to say how much Stafford and the rest of the Lions starters will play.

“I’m just trying to get through today’s practice and make sure I get everybody going in the right direction,” Patricia said prior to Tuesday’s practice. “We’ll find out on Friday.”

The Lions’ first offense had an uneven day against the Raiders during the team scrimmage. They were flagged for three penalties and sputtered on their initial drive before Stafford found wide receivers Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones Jr. for deep completions.

“I feel physically good http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/jaire-alexander-jersey ,” Stafford said. “Obviously another year in the system is going to hopefully help me expand my ability within the system to get us into the best plays possible. I feel very comfortable at the line of scrimmage doing our thing, but I can always be better. I’m always trying to find ways to improve and to get the ball to those playmakers at a higher clip.”

Stafford passed for 4,446 yards with 29 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2017, his seventh consecutive season with 4,200 yards or more. The 30-year-old quarterback also had a career-best 99.3 passer rating.

Detroit, which hasn’t made it past the wild card round of the playoffs since 1991, won three of its final four games down the stretch but failed to advance to the postseason.

Although he won’t be on the field very long Friday, Stafford is relishing playing in a game after mostly practicing against Detroit’s defense before the two workouts with Oakland.

“It’s a good change-up,” Stafford said. “We have to go out and prepare for another defense a night before. You don’t have a ton of time to look at them. You just go out there and try to execute your stuff as well as you can. I’ve got players on this team that I’ve never played an NFL game with before so it’s going to be to see how they go about their business and how they react.”

Tuesday’s practice got chippy when Lions defensive end Anthony Zettel hit Raiders backup guard Jon Feliciano from the side http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/markus-wheaton-jersey , sparking a fracas involving multiple players before they were eventually pulled apart.

Addison Russell and Chicago Cubs took advantage of the warm, windy weather at Wrigley Field to power their way to a comeback win.

Russell hit his second career grand slam, Jason Heyward and Ben Zobrist each had two-run homers and the Cubs rallied to beat the Minnesota Twins 10-6 on Friday.

Kyle Schwarber added his 16th home run, a solo shot in the seventh, in a late afternoon contest that started with a temperature of 96 degrees and a 12-mph breeze blowing out. Anthony Rizzo completed Chicago’s scoring with an RBI single in the eighth as the Cubs pulled away to win their third game in four following a five-game slide.

Russell’s second homer – and four-RBI game – in two days chased Twins starter Jose Berrios (8-6) with one out the fifth and put Chicago ahead for the first time, 6-5. The shortstop’s deep fly to left was pushed by a steady southwest wind as it narrowly reached the Wrigley Field bleachers.

”I figured I got it pretty good, but I thought I hit it a little too high,” Russell said. ”I’m happy that it’s summertime in Chicago and now those balls are flying.”

Russell, who got off to a slow start this season http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/blake-martinez-jersey , has seven hits in 17 at-bats over his last four games to raise his average to .282.

”I’ve just been really trying to work on my approach with (hitting coach Chili Davis) and myself, as well as my discipline at the plate,” Russell said. ”It looks like it’s getting better.”

Joe Mauer homered among three hits and finished with a season-high five RBIs for the Twins. Mauer hit a three-run shot in the second and lined a two-run double off Cubs starter Mike Montgomery in the fourth.

”Today, probably high-end extreme of favorable to the offensive side,” Twins manager Paul Molitor said of the weather. ”It played a little bit of a role in the game.

”I got a little bit of a boost I think on Joe’s ball and on (Russell’s) grand slam.”

Montgomery (3-2) lasted five innings and earned the win despite giving up five runs (three earned) and seven hits with three walks. Three Cubs relievers followed with a scoreless inning each before Justin Wilson allowed the Twins’ final run in the ninth.

Brandon Morrow came in to get the final out for his 17th save.

Berrios lacked his usual velocity as he yielded a season-high six runs and four walks. The right-hander was 3-0 with a 2.10 ERA over his previous five starts.

”I thought I lost a little bit of stamina out there,” Berrios said. ”Scorching hot.”

Mauer’s homer was just his second this season, following a solo shot on May 1, and he hit the opposite-field drive despite being ill. The 35-year-old first baseman last drove in five runs in a game last Sept. 17 against Toronto.

Mauer’s drive with two outs in the second made it 3-0. The wind helped his fly carry into the left-field basket.

Heyward lined Berrios’ first pitch to him in the third into the right-center bleachers to cut it to 3-2.

Mauer’s double to center field in the fourth and plated two runs to extend the Twins’ lead to 5-2.

After the Cubs loaded the bases in the fifth, Russell’s homer put them ahead. Zobrist added his two-run shot to right in the sixth off Matt Magill to make it 8-5.

INF Javier Baez wasn’t in the lineup following the birth of his son Friday morning. Baez http://www.washingtonredskinsteamonline.com/deshazor-everett-jersey , tied with Schwarber for the team lead with 16 homers, pinch hit in the seventh and struck out.

— Panthers offensive lineman Amini Silatolu has a torn meniscus in his left knee and will undergo surgery Friday.

The team isn’t saying how much time Silatolu is expected to miss. He will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis Jordan Mills Jersey , according to trainer Ryan Vermillion.

Silatolu has been working as the team’s starting left guard as Carolina looks to fill the void of All-Pro Andrew Norwell, who signed earlier this offseason with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Rookie Brendan Mahon will start the preseason opener Thursday at Buffalo.

Silatolu has played in 48 games and started 31 in five NFL seasons.

It is the third significant injury in training camp for the Panthers and the second to an offensive lineman. The Panthers lost starting right tackle Daryl Williams to a torn medical collateral ligament and dislocated patella in his right knee Jacoby Brissett Jersey , and cornerback Ross Cockrell broke his left leg.

An Ohio man has admitted defrauding NFL players out of money meant for charities.

Thirty-nine-year-old Camario Richardson, of Maple Heights Nathan Peterman Jersey , Ohio, pleaded guilty Monday to mail fraud in federal court in Kansas City.

Prosecutors say Richardson told the players he could deliver Nike-branded merchandise to charitable events. The five players involved weren't identified in the indictment.

The backpacks were never delivered. He admitted to similar schemes involving players from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts and Cincinnati Bengals. He also didn't deliver athletic shoes he promised for a San Diego Chargers player's charity.

Richardson was ordered to pay $24 http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/dean-lowry-jersey ,780 in restitution.

Jerry Kramer has basked in the attention on his key block on the winning play in the Ice Bowl for more than half a century.

He sure was uneasy Sean Taylor Jersey , though, when Vince Lombardi told Bart Starr to run "31 Wedge" from a yard out, the Green Bay Packers' dynasty dangling by a thread with 16 seconds remaining on that 1967 New Year's Eve afternoon so frozen in time.

It was a play Kramer himself had suggested, almost sheepishly, to Lombardi after finding a flaw in Dallas' short-yardage defense during film study 72 hours earlier.

He noticed that while Bob Lilly was so close to the ground "you couldn't move him with a D-9 CAT" bulldozer, fellow Cowboys defensive tackle Jethro Pugh stood too high in his stance, making him vulnerable.

"Coach," Kramer blurted out, "we can wedge Pugh if we have to."

Come again?

"We can wedge Pugh if we have to."

"Run that back," barked Lombardi.

"So, we run the film back about four different times and he watched Pugh and he said: 'That's right. Put in a wedge on Pugh,'" Kramer recalled recently as he prepared for his long-awaited Pro Football Hall of Fame induction on Saturday.

Like the star pupil earning brownie points with his teacher http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/dean-lowry-jersey , Kramer was proud of his suggestion. But when the Packers were trailing 17-14 with 16 seconds and no timeouts left, he found himself wishing he'd kept his mouth shut.

Starr called his last timeout after halfback Donnie Anderson's second straight slip, trotted over to the sideline and suggested to Lombardi that he run a sneak because of the poor traction.

"Then run it and let's get the hell out of here," Lombardi replied.

Starr called out the play in the huddle.

"31 Wedge."

Kramer's heart sank.

It's one thing to suggest a play. It's another for it to get called in a do-or-die situation with an NFL championship on the line.

"You really wish they'd call something else maybe," Kramer recalled. "Maybe we'd rather run a sweep. Or maybe we ought to run over there."

Lilly kicked the ice away from the goal line. Pugh pondered calling a timeout to have someone from the Cowboys sideline bring out a shovel.

"The other guys were slipping and sliding because it was icy," Kramer recalled.

Not him.

"There was an area almost like a golf divot where my left foot went, it was about an inch deep, three-quarters of an inch deep," Kramer said. "And my left foot just snuggled down into that divot and gave me like a starting block."

Pugh thought Kramer false-started.

Years later, Kramer would admit he moved a split-second before Ken Bowman's snap, taking some of the heat off Pugh, who died in 2015 http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/roquan-smith-jersey , and was long blamed by Cowboys fans for the loss in the Ice Bowl.

Kramer hit Pugh first and Bowman spun him around as Starr knifed into the end zone behind them, followed by fullback Chuck Mercein holding his hands high, not to signal touchdown but to show the officials he hadn't aided his quarterback into the end zone.

CBS had a monitor in the Packers' locker room afterward and showed Kramer's block in slow motion, sparking whooping and hollering from his teammates and praise from his coach.

"That's a fine block," Lombardi said .

The Cowboys flew home in silence while the Packers prepared for their second Super Bowl, a 33-14 rout of the Raiders in Lombardi's final game as their head coach.

Pugh would go on to win two Super Bowls with the Cowboys.

Kramer played another season and in 1969 was the only guard voted to the NFL's 50th Anniversary Team, something he expected would be a prelude to a hasty call from the Hall of Fame.

That invitation finally came this year, making him the 14th member of Lombardi's Packers to make it into the hall.

At first he was bitter over his repeated snubs, but he grew to accept that he might not ever make it into Canton.

"I'd been through the emotional package that Terrell is going through," Kramer said of fellow 2018 inductee Terrell Owens , who is skipping Saturday's ceremonies in Canton, Ohio Nick Perry Jersey , miffed that he wasn't a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Kramer can relate.

"I went through a period where I didn't want to hear about the Hall of Fame," Kramer said. "I wanted nothing to do with it. I literally drove by the Hall of Fame three or four times and I wouldn't go in because I was not invited in."

Kramer said he eventually found peace by counting his blessings, which included five titles in his 11 seasons as the anchor of Green Bay's line.

"It just occurred to me that if I was going to be angry over one honor that I didn't get and trash 100 honors that I did get, that would be stupid," Kramer said.

At 82, he finally has pro football's highest honor.

"There was such a range of emotions as deep as you can go into the Earth, and then cloud high," Kramer said. "So, it's been a fascinating journey."

The Rams are the trendy pick to win the Super Bowl. They have among the best Super Bowl odds, somewhere around 10-1 or 12-1, up there with the Patriots, Steelers http://www.indianapoliscoltsteamonline.com/christine-michael-sr-jersey , Eagles and Vikings.

The Rams feature the offensive player of the year in Todd Gurley, the defensive player of the year in Aaron Donald and the coach of the year in Sean McVay.

They added Marcus Peters, Aqib Talib, Brandin Cooks and Ndamukong Suh.

On paper, they definitely look the part.

The Rams, though, are holding their ears and going, “La la la la.”

“We have to be careful not to buy into what the media is saying about us,” defensive lineman Michael Brockers told SiriusXM NFL Radio. “A lot of people are picking us, but we have to focus on us — do our due diligence and like coach [McVay] says, ‘Every day we have to be better.'”

Reuben Foster is due in court June 20 to face a marijuana possession charge Steve Largent Jersey , Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports.

The 49ers linebacker was arrested on the second-degree misdemeanor charge January 12 and released after posting $2,500 bond. He is subject to league discipline under the NFL’s substances of abuse policy.

On Wednesday, Foster will find out whether he will stand trial on domestic violence charges after his former girlfriend recanted accusations against him. Ex-girlfriend Elissa Ennis said she made up allegations that Foster struck her because Foster broke up with her and she 鈥渨anted him to go down鈥?as a result. Ennis also described her actions as a 鈥渕oney scheme.鈥?/p>

Foster has not participated in the team’s offseason program since being charged with domestic violence in April.

Jon Cooper walked into the locker room and didn’t get the sense Lightning players were down in the dumps about losing the first two games of the Eastern Conference final.

”It was more kind of like an anger of like we want to get back – like let’s get Game 3 going here,” Tampa Bay’s coach said.

Game 3 on Tuesday night in Washington can’t come soon enough for the Lightning, who are in a historically difficult spot after losing twice at home to open the series.

Of the 41 previous times a team lost the first two games in the conference finals, 39 went on to lose the series – including every team that lost its first two at home.

”For us, it’s all about resetting everything,” defenseman Victor Hedman said Monday. ”There’s no panic. We’re obviously not happy with losing two games on home ice, but that is not something that goes into our locker room.

”We’ve got the experience. We’ve got the guys that are in the playoffs for the first time, guys have been through this Mackensie Alexander Jersey , and we’re capable of handling that.”

The Lightning under Cooper haven’t lost the first two games of a series since 2014, when they were swept in the first round by Montreal. That was a learning experience players could point to when they went to the Stanley Cup Final in 2015, but right now it’s just an ugly deficit.

It is the same deficit the Lightning erased against the Capitals in 2003.

”If you just look where you stand in the series, I feel like it’s a big mountain to climb,” said former Lightning captain Martin St. Louis, who was on that team. ”They got to focus on just winning the next game. And I truly believe if they do that, it’s going to be a long series.”

After not allowing Boston to score an even-strength goal in the final three games during the second round, Tampa Bay has been outscored 7-1 by Washington at even strength and 10-4 overall.

Asked what the Lightning needed to do better, three-time Cup-winning defenseman Ken Daneyko responded, ”Where do we begin?”

”They were so responsible defensively De'Anthony Thomas Jersey , making good puck decisions and through the first two rounds they didn’t give up a whole lot,” said Daneyko, now an NHL Network analyst.

”Just mental breakdowns, mental mistakes by Tampa Bay. You never know why it turns so drastically like that when they were so sound against the Bruins. That can’t happen.”

Mistakes are happening in abundance, most notably passing up shots that lead to opportunities the other way. And ill-timed penalties late in periods have led directly to Capitals power-play goals, which definitely can’t continue happening if the Lightning want to make this a series.

”We need to do a better job of not getting in that situation, not letting two games in a row, 7, 8 seconds left on the power play and they get one,” defenseman Dan Girardi said. ”That’s something we can definitely control ourselves.”

As clinically as Tampa Bay eliminated New Jersey and Boston in five games apiece Andre Reed Jersey , Washington is rolling behind the scoring of Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov and the goaltending of Braden Holtby, who has stopped 52 of 56 shots through two games.

The Capitals are feeling confident right now, but after falling behind 0-2 on home ice in the first round and roaring back to beat Columbus, they understand how fast things can swing.

”We’re off to a heck of a start, but we’ve got to take care of business at home,” defenseman Matt Niskanen said. ”If they win one or two here, boy, the momentum switches big time.”

For the Lightning to win one or two games, they’ll need to get better production out of captain Steven Stamkos and winger Nikita Kucherov and better play out of goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy, who hasn’t been at his best.

”He’s going to have to be great Reshad Jones Jersey ,” said Keith Jones, a former NHL forward and current NBC Sports analyst. ”He’s being challenged to look through traffic and stay up. … Vasilevskiy’s going to have to play unbelievably well unless the Capitals take a step back.”

If the Lightning can’t figure out how to fix many of their problems from the net out, it’ll be a short series. Cooper sounded confident of a turnaround.

”There’s a really good group of guys there,” Cooper said. ”They’ve got a ton of experience and when their backs have been against the wall, they’ve shown a propensity to fight back. This is a tough one. We lost two at home and it’s definitely not an ideal situation. But we’re not done. It’s not over.”

NOTES: Capitals coach Barry Trotz said C Nicklas Backstrom, who has missed three consecutive games with a right hand injury, remains day-to-day. … Washington D Michal Kempny was fined $2,419 – the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement – for cross-checking Lightning F Cedric Paquette during Game 2.

Dan Bailey‘s name is all over the Cowboys’ record book. He is the second-most accurate kicker in NFL history.

Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson knows he has an inspiring story to tell. The man who led the Eagles to a dramatic Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots is working on a memoir.

Hachette Books told The Associated Press on Tuesday the book is called "Fearless" and is coming out August 28. According to Hachette, Pederson will look back on his career as a quarterback and assistant coach and tell of the Eagles' unexpected championship season.

The Atlanta Falcons will look at their current roster to replace Keanu Neal O. J. Simpson Jersey , the safety who will miss the remainder of the season after tearing a ligament in his left knee Thursday night in an 18-12 opening loss at Philadelphia .

Coach Dan Quinn said Friday he and general manager Thomas Dimitroff discussed outside options that could include free agent Pro Bowl safety Eric Reid.

"We have talked about that," Quinn said when asked specifically about Reid.

Quinn didn't rule out looking to acquire help in the future, but he said the first option would be a combination of Damontae Kazee, who replaced Neal in the game, and Jordan Richards, a safety who was acquired from the New England Patriots on Aug. 31.

"We'd like to go in-house first," Quinn said. "The reason is the presence of Jordan and the emergence of Kazee. We'll go down that road first. Then they'll definitely be, when you put a player down for the year on IR, there will be some opportunities that we could look at as well. But from a starting standpoint look in-house first."

The loss of Neal, a leader on the defense who was selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2017, is a major blow to the Atlanta defense.

"It's very disappointing Eric Berry Jersey ," defensive end Takkarist McKinley said following a team meeting on Friday. "He is a leader on this team, our best player. Losing him, someone else has got to step up. We've all got to step up."

Friday's news was especially devastating because the initial diagnosis of the Falcons medical staff, which Quinn relayed to reporters following the game, was the injury wasn't believed to be serious. The team learned Friday Neal had torn his anterior cruciate ligament.

"You can imagine he was certainly heartbroken," said Quinn of Neal. "... It was a tough, emotional day."

Neal used his Twitter account to pass along a message of faith. "TRUST in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. He has a plan," Neal wrote.

The injury news added more shock to a Falcons locker room reeling from another close loss to the Eagles. After being stopped on the goal line in a playoff loss in Philadelphia last season, the Falcons again were denied on five plays in the red zone to end the game.

Then came Friday's news that Neal was lost for the season.

"You can't replace a guy like that," said cornerback Desmond Trufant. "We've just got to pray for him and pick up the slack."

Neal hurt his knee in the first half, returned in the second half and then left the game for good.

Quinn said he didn't think Neal aggravated the injury by returning to the game.

Reid continued his protest in 2017. He filed a collusion grievance against the NFL in May after he was not signed as a free agent last offseason.

The NFLPA has filed a grievance on Reid's behalf.

Reid started 69 of 70 games with 10 career interceptions and remained unsigned despite attracting interest from Cincinnati and Tennessee.

Neal was a 2016 first-round draft pick from Florida and one of the key building blocks on Quinn's defense. Neal had 113 tackles with one interception, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries while starting every game last season.

Neal also has set the pace for the defense with his physical style.

"His physical nature is one that he plays like a linebacker, but is fast enough to play in the middle part of the field and play outside," Quinn said. "We'll certainly miss him because of the physical nature he plays with."

HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Texans released veteran punter Shane Lechler just before what would have been his 19th NFL season.

Lechler was let go after the Texans decided to go with undrafted rookie Trevor Daniel.

The 42-year-old Lechler spent the first 13 years of his career with the Raiders before joining the Texans in 2013. He started 206 games for Oakland and never missed a game as a Texan, making all 80 starts in his five seasons with the team.

Coach Bill O’Brien said making the final cuts to the roster are always hard, but that this one is particularly difficult.

“Shane Lechler’s one of the best pros I’ve ever been around, and if you look back at kind of who I’ve been around, I’ve been around some good pros, and he’s one of the best, he said.

Lechler Michael Dickson Jersey , a fifth-round draft pick out of Texas A&M in 2000, was a seven-time Pro Bowler and was first-team All-Pro six times. He ranks second in NFL history with 1,444 punts for 68,676 yards.

“He was a great leader here, was a captain,” O’Brien said. “In my opinion, he’s a Hall of Fame punter. So, we had a good talk this morning and we decided to head in that direction. … We try to make decisions in the best interest of the team, but sometimes those decisions are very difficult.”

Lechler is the all-time NFL leader in yards per punt with 47.6 and he led the league in yards per punt in five seasons. He was in the top 10 in 11 other years. He led the NFL in punting yards in four seasons, including last year when he had 4,507.

In 2011 he had a career-long punt of 80 yards Orlando Brown Jr. Jersey , which led the NFL that year, and he also had the longest punt in the league in 2003 when he booted one 73 yards.

Lechler went to high school in East Bernard, Texas where he was the team’s quarterback, kicker and punter before a four-year career at Texas A&M, where he was the team’s punter and kicked off for the Aggies.

“Shane’s a Texas legend,” O’Brien said. “He’s a guy who grew up in this state, comes from a coaches’ family, I have a great deal of respect for Shane and wish him the best.”

O’Brien said he doesn’t believe Daniel will be under any extra pressure to perform because he’s replacing someone like Lechler.

“It’s the National Football League. That’s a part of the deal,” he said. “We’re all here to produce and to try to perform, and that’s what we’re trying to do.”

Virgil Green is used to trading personal gain for the success of the team.

In his first season with the Los Angeles Chargers Trent Murphy Jersey , the veteran tight end's unselfishness might be exactly what is needed following the loss of emerging star Hunter Henry to a serious knee injury.

"This isn't the first time something like this has happened, and it's always 'next man up' mentality," Green said following the first day of mandatory minicamp Tuesday. "Everybody in that room has to contribute, whether you are No. 1 on the depth chart or last on the depth chart."

Henry sustained a torn ACL in practice last month, leaving Green as the only tight end on the roster that has caught a pass in an NFL game and drastically changing his role for the upcoming season. Green, who signed with the Chargers as a free agent in March after playing seven seasons for the Denver Broncos, had been expected to serve mainly as a blocking complement to Henry.

Instead, Green might finally get his chance to be used more in the passing game, especially in the red zone. It was how Green was expected to be featured coming out of college at Nevada, but he never caught more than 22 passes in a season, with 48 of his 71 career receptions coming in the past three.

The chance to play a more prominent role is refreshing to Green, who has four career touchdown catches.

"I've made a living blocking when there were times I thought I should have been running routes, but I kept my mouth shut and did what I was supposed to do, won a lot of games in Denver, and I hope to bring that here," Green said. "Obviously, who doesn't want to catch touchdowns? I want to catch 10 touchdowns if I could, but whatever this team needs me to do to win games Marcus Allen Jersey , that's all I want to do."

With Henry expected to miss the entire upcoming season, the Chargers will use a heavy dose of three-receiver sets highlighting 1,300-yard standout Keenan Allen and a diverse crop of talents including former first-round pick Mike Williams, who could be another big-bodied option near the goal line. Offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt praised the selfless nature of the wide receivers, and Green is trying to do his best to impart the same collective spirit to the tight ends.

Whisenhunt recognizes it has been a challenge for Green to help the other six tight ends on the roster while learning the offense for the first time. But Green carries the authority from his time at an AFC West rival to help the group, which includes four rookies and two players in their second seasons, on how to approach life in the NFL.

"I've been in your position before," Green said. "Every year they said, 'Oh, this guy, he's not going to make the roster.' But somehow I made the roster. Don't stress about what's said on the outside. Just focus on your job. Do what you do, and go have fun."

Whisenhunt likes what he has seen so far from the untested tight ends behind Green, but recognizes a better evaluation will come during training camp and preseason games.

"The real test comes when we put the pads on and we see how they can hold up in the blocking and what we're asking them to do there, but we have good competition with that group," Whisenhunt said.

For Green, he is excited for the chance to help the Chargers get back into the postseason for the first time since 2013. He realizes how close they were to that goal last season while splitting the two-game season series with the Broncos.

"I know what it takes, what it takes for a team to go to the playoffs and be successful, and my role is just to do whatever this team needs me to do Eli Manning Jersey , whatever they need," Green said. "I'm just focused on ending my career with a bang."

NOTES: Cornerback Jason Verrett (left knee) went through team drills for the first time since undergoing season-ending surgery last September. ... Defensive tackle Corey Liuget did not participate as he recovers from foot surgery, but coach Anthony Lynn expects him to be available for training camp.

No debate that the most important position in the NFL is quarterback. But in fantasy, there may be as much depth at the position as there ever has been.

Sure, we'd all like Green Bay superstar Aaron Rodgers to start for our teams, but that privilege may not be worth a third- or fourth-round pick in most leagues.

Unless you're in a league in which you can start more than one QB (superflex/2 QB leagues) or one that awards 6 points for a touchdown pass, do not take a QB until the eighth round at the earliest.

This isn't to say that you should completely pass on players like Rodgers or New England's Tom Brady. If Rodgers falls to the fifth round or later, the value would be too good. But generally, load up on as many running backs and wide receivers as possible.

The depth at QB means you can get a player like Philip Rivers (Chargers), Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh) or Andrew Luck (Indianapolis) later in your draft. They each have warts but it's better to have depth at RB or WR in the middle rounds rather than take a QB that may not outscore someone you can draft several rounds later by anything more than a few points per week.

History tells us that there will be several top QBs that will outscore others at that position by a significant amount, but the passers ranked No. 4 to No. 13 will be separated by about 4 fantasy points per week. That just isn't enough of a difference to justify passing on a third running back or receiver.

A question that every fantasy owner should ask when thinking about drafting a top-level QB is whether the team will look better with that QB and a running back like Marlon Mack, or with a receiver like Golden Tate and Luck. Take the second option every time.

When it comes to quarterbacks and other positions, fantasy analysts place players in tiers. Rodgers is in a tier all by himself. He is the best fantasy QB today and it may not be all that close. Don't be worried about the broken collarbone from last season. Rodgers has the arm strength to throw every pass required and although he won't run as much as Carolina's Cam Newton or Seattle's Russell Wilson, he still has the ability to escape the pocket to gain yardage on the ground or more importantly, buy time for one of his receivers to get open.

The next tier has a few more options: Philadelphia's Carson Wentz, Houston's Deshaun Watson, Newton, Wilson and Brady. Any one of them can start for your fantasy team but they aren't perfect by any means.

Newton had accuracy problems throughout his career and they aren't likely to improve much this season. Still C.J. Mosley Jersey , his ability to scramble for yardage and TDs make him valuable. Wentz may or may not be ready for Week 1. If you draft Wentz, you may feel the need to select Nick Foles later as insurance. While no one can truly blame you for doing so, it's a waste of a valuable bench slot. Watson is also coming off a torn ACL and one has to wonder if he will be able to move around as well as he did last season, and let's also not forget that he only has a handful of starts under his belt. You may love Wilson for what he did last year, but now that Doug Baldwin (knee) could miss the entire preseason and Jimmy Graham left via free agency, there just isn't much left for him to throw to. Brady may be the greatest real-life QB of all time, but the team lost Nate Solder and Brandin Cooks and Julian Edelman is suspended for four games. Throw in that rookie running back Sony Michel will undergo knee surgery and maybe this won't be his year.

After those top QBs are gone, wait another round or two and just take whoever's left. Drew Brees (New Orleans), Kirk Cousins (Minnesota), Matthew Stafford (Detroit), Roethlisberger, Rivers, and Luck round out the next tier. Brees is not the QB he once was. The Saints have one of the best ground attacks in the game and a legitimate defense. They don't need Brees to put the ball in the air 40-plus times a game anymore. Cousins has solid weapons around him and a strong defense. Now that he finally has the big contract he may finally relax and put up big numbers. Stafford is about as consistent as they come and is a safe play. Yeah, starting Roethlisberger on the road can be an issue as his splits are awful but perhaps a change in coordinators eliminates that problem. Rivers is sort of a forgotten man but like Stafford, also very consistent and won't cost you much. Luck's price is only going to get higher as fantasy owners start to believe in his health.

The position is so deep that even if you don't end up with one of the top 12, you still have the likes of Matt Ryan (Atlanta), Jimmy Garoppolo (San Francisco), Alex Smith (Washington) and Marcus Mariota (Tennessee) available.

That gives you the wiggle room to wait while filling other positions early.

Roster moves have been coming fast and furious during Seahawks training camp this year and some players have found themselves on and off the team multiple times as a result.

One of those players is center Marcus Henry. Henry was waived by the Seahawks on August 3 Jason Witten Jersey , but the team announced on Sunday that Henry has signed a new deal in order to return to the team. He originally signed with the team along with four other players following a tryout at rookie minicamp.

Linebacker Jason Hall was one of the players waived to make room for those new arrivals in May, but he is also back with the team. Hall and cornerback Elijah Battle rounded out the list of three signings announced by the team on Sunday.

Tight end Je’Ron Hamm, linebacker Warren Long and fullback Jalston Fowler were waived to make room. It’s the second time Hamm has been cut since the start of camp. He was dropped on August 2, returned on August 6 and could be back again if the Seahawks continue churning their roster at the same rate.

Raw emotion came from Alex Ovechkin as he wore an ”Eastern Conference champions” hat for the first time.

”Oh my God,” he said. ”It’s unbelievable. I can’t explain my emotions. I’m just happy for my boys, for organizations, for fans. Finally.”

Finally.

Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals will play for the Stanley Cup. It’s a journey 14 years in the making from Ovechkin being the first overall draft pick to the greatest goal scorer of this generation – and a player who until this year hasn’t made it out of the second round of the playoffs through little fault of his own. Yet he’s gotten an uneven proportion of the blame.

Ovechkin essentially willed the Capitals to the Cup Final with 12 goals, 10 assists and the best postseason of his career. In one spring, the 32-year-old Russian superstar has ended Washington’s 20-year final drought, slayed demons and destroyed the old narrative that he can’t get the job done when it matters most.

”The special thing is because we’re winning Bengals Cordy Glenn Jersey ,” Ovechkin said before the Capitals left for Las Vegas. ”That’s the whole thing. That’s all I can say. We win and we move forward. We’ve never been in this position before. All my career, I played for this team, and we never get the success like that.”

Ovechkin bore the brunt of nine playoff appearances ending after the first or second round despite being a point-a-game player. With time running out on chasing the trophy he knew all about as a kid, this season has featured a different-looking player.

General manager Brian MacLellan sees a new level of maturity on and off the ice that he believes comes from Ovechkin getting married. A different offseason training regimen allowed Ovechkin to produce more at even strength, and the result was an NHL-leading 49 goals.

”I think the way he plays this year is more within the team structure,” MacLellan said. ”This is the most systematic he’s played throughout his career, in my mind.”

In the playoffs, Ovechkin has raised his game even further. His vintage physicality and his willingness to get his body in front of shots and hustle down ice on the backcheck have been noticeable.

”When you see him blocking shots, you see him coming back hard, you see him playing physical Myles Garrett Jersey , he’s getting more and more excited,” linemate Tom Wilson said. ”It seems like every round you win, he’s playing even harder. And that’s what you need out of your top guys. When he’s going, you’re aware he’s on the ice. Everyone in the building knows he’s on the ice.”

During the third round, Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said Ovechkin has ”taken 14 years of frustration out in one playoffs.” Ovechkin is reluctant to talk about previous playoff disappointments, but they’ve been tied to him.

Even though this is a team sport, someone has to be the greatest player to never win the Cup. Until now, arguably that’s Ovechkin, a label he has the chance to shed beginning in Game 1 of the final Monday at the expansion Vegas Golden Knights.

”He’s an elite player that shoulders the responsibility of how our team performs, whether that is fair or unfair Giants Will Hernandez Jersey , and I think that happens to all those elite players in the league,” MacLellan said. ”They get built up when they win and they get torn down a little bit when they lose. It is not always fair, because it is a team game. And for him, he has shouldered a lot of the burden that has gone on here for the last 11 years or whatever the time period has been, and hopefully this is a time when he gets payback and enjoys it this year.”

Ovechkin is enjoying hockey seemingly like never before. Coach Barry Trotz wondered if being the face of the franchise and carrying the burden weighed on Ovechkin all those years.

Getting past the Pittsburgh Penguins and the second round made Ovechkin look ”freer” in Trotz’s eyes.

”You want your top guys to be on a mission, and I think that has freed him to carry on the mission rather than have to explain why he didn’t go farther and have to do it every spring,” Trotz said. ”He’s having fun. He’s producing. He’s all in. If you’re going to have success, you have to have all-in contribution, and he has. I think he’s enjoying the run, the playoffs Cheap Courtland Sutton Jersey , maybe for the first time in a long time.”

Since returning home to Washington after advancing to the Final, Ovechkin said fans have come up to him to say thank you, good job, and to express pride. But he doesn’t want to celebrate too much because he knows how difficult every step of the playoffs is to conquer.

”It’s hard. It’s not easy,” Ovechkin said. ”This organization, it’s been too long to be in this position, and I’ve never been in this position. Only Brooks Orpik has won the Stanley Cup and been in the final. Now this group is excited and we’re ready to go.”
