USDT
on TRON’s Network Now Represents 22% of Stablecoin’s Total Supply
There are now over 900 million
TRC20 USDT tokens, which means nearly 22% of the stablecoin’s supply is now
circulating on TRON’s network. The TRON Foundation and Tether, the company
behind USDT, formed a partnership in March of last year to issue USDT as a
TRC20 token, and the circulating supply has since ballooned.
In total, there are 2.2 billion USDT
circulating as ERC20 tokens on the Ethereum network, 1.5 billion
Bitcoin-based USDT on the Omni protocol, and over 900 million TRC20 USDT on
TRON, with roughly 1.5 million more circulating on EOS.
Notably, Tether first started
issuing USDT back in 2014, using Bitcoin’s Omni layer to do so. A Binance
account is reportedly the top holder of TRC20 Tether, while an account
belonging to crypto exchange Huobi holds the largest amount of ERC20 USDT.
