Softbank
Launches Debit Cards With a Built-in Blockchain Wallet
SoftBank, a Tokyo-based
telecommunications conglomerate, has announced the launch of a new debit card
with a built-in blockchain wallet called SBC Wallet Card. These cards,
according to SoftBank’s press release, have cold and hot functions and cut
block confirmation times so users can pay with cryptoassets in a timely
manner.
The cards come with a companion
app that will let users switch between fiat and cryptocurrency for their
payments. An unnamed SoftBank SBC Project Leader noted the firm isn’t doing
“simple cards” but is “creating a flexible and faster life of the application
scene and the future of payment integration.”
The SBC Wallet Cards, SoftBank
claims, received support from “well-known local agents” and a payment system
that’s working with 10,000 stores in Japan.
