Nothing will be certain until they take the field a week from Monday night Dwayne Washington Jersey , but it looks like cornerback Sam Shields is going to have a chance to resume his NFL career.

Shields’ career was interrupted by concussions and he sat out last season after being released by the Packers. He signed with the Rams in March and remained on the roster through Saturday’s cut to 53 players.

Several other players weren’t so lucky. The Rams waived defensive tackle Omarius Bryant, defensive tackle Chunky Clements, center Jake Eldrenkamp, defensive back Dominique Hatfield, tight end Temarrick Hemingway, wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge Marlon Mack Jersey , defensive tackle Lord Hyeamang, tight end Henry Krieger-Coble, guard Jeremiah Kolone, defensive end Marcus Martin, defensive back Curtis Mikell, wide receiver Steven Mitchell Jamie Meder Jersey , defensive tackle McKay Murphy, center Aaron Neary, defensive back Taurean Nixon, defensive back Steven Parker, quarterback Luis Perez, linebacker Ejuan Price Jake Rudock Jersey , defensive back Ramon Richards, running back Larry Rose, linebacker Tegray Scales, and defensive end Brian Womac.

Linebacker Travin Howard was waived/injured, linebacker Ogbonnia Okoronkwo was placed on the PUP list and guard Jamon Brown will spend the first two weeks of the year on the suspended list.

The La Verne Police Department announced on Tuesday that the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has filed four charges, including attempted murder Star Lotulelei Jersey , against former NFL cornerback Brandon Browner after he was arrested on July 8.

Browner is accused of breaking into entering the home of a woman that he previously had a relationship with, forcing her back into the residence when she tried to flee and stealing a Rolex watch from her. The woman had a restraining order against Browner.

The statement from the La Verne Police Department said that Browner also faces felony charges of robbery, burglary and false imprisonment and two misdemeanor charges of child endangerment. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.

A first-degree attempted murder charge in California carries a maximum sentence of life in prison while second-degree charges carry a possible sentence of nine years in prison.

Cavaliers All-Star forward Kevin Love remains in concussion protocol and his status for Game 1 of the NBA Finals is still unclear.

Cleveland coach Tyronn Lue gave an update Tuesday before the team flew to San Francisco for Thursday’s opener. The Cavs are playing the Golden State Warriors in the finals for the fourth straight year.

Love missed Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals at Boston after banging heads with Celtics rookie Jayson Tatum in the previous game. Jeff Green started for Love in Game 7 and finished with 19 points with eight rebounds in Cleveland’s 87-79 victory.

Love has played center and forward this season and is averaging 13.9 points and 10.0 rebounds this postseason. He sat out the 2015 finals with a separated shoulder.

The Friday afternoon news dump is one of the oldest pages in the politics and public relations playbook: There’s a long-held belief that on weekends Nathan Peterman Jersey , people don’t consume much news, so if you want to put bad news out, you put it out on Friday afternoon Jeremiah George Jersey , when few people are paying attention.

But even better than the Friday afternoon news dump is the pre-holiday news dump: Holidays are the days when Americans really don’t feel like checking the news. And the NFL took advantage of that on the third of July.

As Americans started leaving their offices for an Independence Day off, the NFL dumped plenty of news about player suspensions. Reuben Foster‘s suspension for gun and marijuana offenses was announced around 3 p.m. Jamon Brown‘s two-game suspension was announced half an hour later. And Aaron Jones‘ suspension was announced half an hour after that. That evening, word leaked that Julian Edelman had lost the appeal of his four-game suspension.

The NFL has a long history of employing the Friday afternoon news dump Terrell Davis Jersey , or the pre-holiday news dump. But it’s worth wondering whether that tactic still works: The news dump dates back to the days when people got their news from the morning paper, and Saturday was the day when newspaper circulation was the lowest. In today’s media environment, there’s just no way to bury any kind of news. The NFL can try Tyler Boyd Jersey , but it can’t bury news anymore.

For any NFL team with a star quarterback of a certain age Levine Toilolo Jersey , the draft is an annual chance to anoint a successor.

It's also a chance for fans, pundits and the rest of the league to spend several months enthusiastically discussing whether that team will make the move.

The Los Angeles Chargers have had the same starting quarterback in every game since 2006, and Philip Rivers will turn 37 years old in the fall.

Already one of the most prolific passers in NFL history, Rivers said last week he is nowhere near retirement and intends to play "a handful more years."

That hasn't stopped the football world from wondering whether general manager Tom Telesco will decide that this is the year to grab his next quarterback when he makes the 17th overall pick on Thursday night.

After winning nine of their final 12 games and barely missing the playoffs last season, the Chargers have a solid roster with few obvious weak spots. The time could be right for a move toward the future behind center, but Telesco isn't sure.

"That's a question we know we'll get every year until we draft a quarterback," Telesco said Monday.

"The great thing right now is that we're very happy with Philip. He's our quarterback, hands down, rest assured Emmanuel Sanders Jersey , for this year and hopefully beyond. But we always have to have an eye on the future. That's part of our job. There are a lot of other areas on our football team that we'd like to add to, too. That's all part of it."

Telesco realizes the questions are particularly sharp this spring not because of any decline in Rivers' play, which was largely outstanding last season, but because a handful of elite prospects could be available when the Chargers are on the clock.

Local product Josh Rosen and Heisman Trophy winners Lamar Jackson and Baker Mayfield all are conceivable possibilities for the Bolts, particularly if they elected to trade up a bit.

Telesco agrees the crop of quarterbacks in this draft is "a deep class, not only in the first round, but some other rounds as well. We've seen it the last couple of years. The quarterback classes have been pretty good. Guys are coming into the league and playing a little bit quicker than they used to."

With Geno Smith and Cardale Jones on the roster behind Rivers, Telesco has the luxury of knowing he doesn't need to draft a quarterback. He'll decide soon whether the succession plan will wait another year.

Here are more things to contemplate before the Chargers make their picks:

TOUGH CHOICES

The Chargers' prolonged surge into playoff contention last season left them squarely in the middle of the pack for the draft. Telesco would have rather been in the postseason than the 17th overall slot, but his scouts and executives believe they can get a worthy talent with their current position.

"You typically have about 18 to 20 first-round-graded players Dalton Schultz Jersey , give or take a couple," Telesco said. "If we don't trade out, we'll still get someone who we feel is a first-round player on our board. It's just more scenarios you have to work through."

BACK ON D

Telesco's team has plenty of desires, but no gaping needs that would compel them to value position over talent. Telesco said he will stick to his philosophy of picking the top available player, but he sees "more defense" among the desirable picks in this particular draft pool.

If that's a clue to the Chargers' intentions, they have plenty of needs, including a topflight safety to replace Tre Boston or a starting linebacker to help out Denzel Perryman.

While Los Angeles has one of the NFL's best pass-rushing duos with Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram, another defensive tackle such as Vita Vea or Da'Ron Payne would bolster a sometimes porous run defense.

RUN IT BACK

Telesco acknowledges he could be looking for an offensive playmaker who can double as a kick returner after Los Angeles finished 30th in the league in return yards. The Bolts already have elite talent at receiver in Keenan Allen, Tyrell Williams and Mike Williams Ryan Kalil Jersey , who is hard at work in the offseason program after an injury-filled rookie year as the seventh overall pick.

DO THE WORK

The Chargers' front office executives and scouts were busy this week preparing for the draft by sifting through hundreds of scouting reports and making their final evaluations before going into a massive mock draft.

"We'll go through different scenarios of where guys would go, and what we would do," Telesco said. "Because (on) draft day, you can't have those discussions. It's hard enough making decisions with the clock ticking down in front of you. You can't have those long discussions at that point. You have to have that decided."

HITS, MISSES AND BARGAINS

Telesco's first five years in charge included big hits in 2016 with first-round pick Bosa and second-round tight end Hunter Henry, both budding stars. He also grabbed running back Melvin Gordon in the first round in 2015 and got starting linebacker Denzel Perryman in the second round.

Telesco hasn't been as successful in unearthing hidden gems, with few later-round picks becoming major contributors. For instance, 2016 third-round pick Max Tuerk lasted just two years and failed to become the Bolts' starting center. But he got a huge hit in the third round in 2013 when he drafted Keenan Allen, who overcame injuries to become a Pro Bowl receiver.

Much of the evaluation of last year's class must wait Bennie Fowler III Jersey , since first-round receiver Mike Williams didn't play much and second-round offensive lineman Forrest Lamp missed the whole season because of injuries.

Funeral services have been arranged for Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson, who was killed with his Uber driver when authorities say a drunken driver living illegally in the U.S. struck them along a highway.

Jackson’s funeral will be held Monday at Big Bethel AME Church in his hometown of Atlanta. The 26-year-old Jackson’s family says the Colts and the NFL ”have lost a young and rising star – one who truly loved the game of football, and played it with a passion.”

Jackson and 54-year-old-old Jeffrey Monroe of Avon, Indiana, were killed Sunday when authorities say they were struck by 37-year-old Manuel Orrego-Savala along Interstate 70 in Indianapolis. Monroe’s funeral will be Friday in Indianapolis.

Authorities say Orrego-Savala was drunk when he hit the victims and he doesn’t have a license. He was charged Wednesday with four felony counts.

Brandon Beane is happy he’s still around to tell the story of when the Buffalo Bills pegged quarterback Josh Allen to become their heir-apparent starter.

The amount of film the Bills general manager watched Allen Hurns Jersey , games attended and people he interviewed before drafting the Wyoming quarterback in the first round was nothing compared to the hair-raising experience Beane and the team’s brain trust had visiting Allen in mid-March.

”Ha, ha, ha, you want that story?” coach Sean McDermott said, after Beane first mentioned how ”interesting” their trip was to Laramie, Wyoming.

Sure, was the response, during an hour-long session McDermott and Beane held with reporters in June. By agreement, the contents of the interview were not allowed to be published until Thursday.

Beane shook his head in describing the turbulence the Bills’ private jet experienced during landing.

”We were coming in over the mountains, and the plane started just going like this,” Beane said, bobbing his arm up and down. ”Literally Demarcus Walker Jersey , our heads are going off the ceiling.”

Beane and co-owner Terry Pegula, who had been watching video of Allen, suddenly started grabbing anything they could get their hands on – seatbacks and armrests – to steady themselves.

While McDermott remained calm, Beane said offensive coordinator Brian Daboll was in near hysterics.

”Daboll is face-timing with his wife. And every expletive, like, `It’s over,”’ Beane said.

”It was like Fred Sanford: `I’m coming home!”’ he added, referring to the character played by Redd Fox in the 1970s sitcom ”Sanford And Son.”

Upon finally landing, the pilot informed them the turbulence was the result of what’s referred to as a mountain wave, which occurs occasionally when planes fly over high terrain.

Once they gathered their breath, the Bills then proceeded with meeting Allen, and put him through a workout.

Without providing Allen with a script of plays beforehand Trevon Coley Jersey , Daboll began yelling out situations to see how quickly the quarterback could digest the information and make a throw.

”It was, `All right, the deep dig. Now. Five-step, this. Go.’ And he processed it quickly,” Beane said. ”His workout was very good. And when we left there, we felt very confident.”

They were confident enough to give up two second-round picks to Tampa Bay and trade up five spots to draft Allen at No. 7.

Where their confidence wavered involved what bumps they might encounter upon leaving Laramie.

”We were a little distracted about how we were getting out of here,” Beane said. ”It was like, `Where do we drive to have the plane meet us?”’

Here are a number of other notable topics discussed during the session:

McDERMOTT OWNS UP

Beane revealed how McDermott owned up to Bills players by acknowledging he erred in starting rookie quarterback Nathan Peterman over Tyrod Taylor in a bid to provide Buffalo’s sputtering offense a spark in Week 11.

The switch backfired , with Peterman benched after throwing five interceptions in the first half of a 54-24 loss at the Los Angeles Chargers, that extended Buffalo’s skid to three games.

”Sean stood up there and he owned the Tyrod decision,” Beane said. ”He said, `It didn’t work. We tried it. And I’m trying to win every week. And unfortunately that decision didn’t work out for various reasons. Tyrod’s our starter.”’

The Bills responded with a 16-10 win at Kansas City the following week as part of a season-closing 4-2 run to finish 9-7 Luke Kuechly Jersey , and end a 17-year playoff drought.

CHARTING ALLEN

To address questions regarding Allen’s accuracy, Bills scouts turned to game tape to chart every throw he attempted. They assessed what caused the incompletions, including times he threw the ball away when his receivers weren’t open.

The Bills also took into account Wyoming’s offensive philosophy, which didn’t include many short passes.

”He had no gimme throws,” Beane said of a quarterback who went 152 of 270, in completing just 56.3 percent of his passes, with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions in 11 games last year.

The only real concern was Allen’s footwork, which Beane said notably improved by the time he played at the Senior Bowl in January.

”I’m not saying it’s fixed,” Beane said of Allen’s footwork. ”But improved.”

QB COMPETITION

McDermott has no intention of rushing Allen into a starting job once training camp opens in suburban Rochester on July 26.

Allen earned limited time with the starters during Buffalo’s three-day mandatory minicamp in mid-June. He spent the previous 10 practices working with the third-stringers, while Peterman and free-agent addition AJ McCarron split time with the starters.

McDermott previously coached in Carolina and Philadelphia, and noted how quarterbacks develop differently.

Whereas, Cam Newton started immediately during his rookie season in 2011 in Carolina Teez Tabor Jersey , Donovan McNabb waited until Week 7 in 1999 to make his first start in Philadelphia.

”There’s no exact way to do it, right? It’s about bringing him along the right way,” McDermott said. ”We’re not going to put him out there unless we feel like he’s ready.”

Beane concurred, while adding: ”Whether he plays zero games or 16 games, we’re going to put out the guy that gives us the best chance to win each Sunday.”

Chiefs offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif can finally put away the medical books for a while and spend all his free time studying up his playbook.

Duvernay-Tardif graduated from McGill University's medical school on Tuesday.

The Chiefs picked Duvernay-Tardif in the sixth round of the 2014 draft, but despite playing at a smaller Canadian school, he quickly earned a starting job. But he never gave up his pursuit of medicine, spending time each offseason doing school work and hospital rotations.

Duvernay-Tardif posted a photo of himself on social media after commencement wearing a lab coat with "Dr. Duvernay-Tardif" across the back and his No. 76 in Chiefs colors. "This is it!" he said. "Today I become a doctor! It also marks the beginning of a great new adventure."

Duvernay-Tardif plans to begin his medical career after his playing days are over. He signed a $41.25 million, five-year contract to remain with the Chiefs last offseason.

For years Todd Gurley Jersey , the NFL tried to keep all topics gambling at arm’s length. The perception has changed, and even if it’s not a full-blown embrace yet, it’s clear that attitudes have warmed.

That has happened for the one reason that always moves the NFL 鈥?money.

According to Darren Rovell of ESPN.com, a Nielsen survey commissioned by the聽American Gaming Association estimates gambling could eventually be worth $2.3 billion per year.

The survey of fans projected that the boost would come from increased interest from fans, which translates to higher media rights and sponsorships.

The report’s projections are based on a “fully mature” sports gambling market, which we are years away from at this point. So far, since a Supreme Court ruling allowed states to make their own gambling policies, four states have opened to sports gambling 鈥斅燚elaware Phillip Gaines Jersey , New Jersey, West Virginia and Mississippi.

Eventually, more states will follow suit, as the potential revenue will climb to the point the league can no longer leave such a pile of money alone.

In her bid for governor of Tennessee, Republican Rep. Diane Black will run an ad during the Super Bowl pregame show saying ”it’s too bad that the league doesn’t respect the patriotism of our national anthem.”

Black’s campaign spokesman, Chris Hartline, said Thursday that the ad urging fans to stand will run on one network in several Tennessee markets at a cost of more than $50,000. Some will see it right before kickoff Allen Hurns Jersey , he said.

It’s a response to the NFL’s refusal to run an ad from the group American Veterans saying ”Please Stand” in the printed Super Bowl program.

The league has been roiled by debate over players kneeling during the anthem to protest social injustice, but NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the game program is not the place for messages that could be seen as political. McCarthy noted that the NFL approved a Veterans of Foreign Wars ad saying ”We Stand for Veterans.”

In her spot, Black says that though the NFL refused the AMVETS ad urging everyone to stand, ”they can’t stop you and me.”

”So tonight, wherever you are watching this game, please stand for `The Star-Spangled Banner’ and join me in standing up for veterans,” Black, a Gallatin lawmaker James Bradberry Jersey , said in the ad.

She’s not the only Republican candidate in Tennessee to use ad time to voice support for standing for the anthem, a call that has particularly rallied the Republican base. President Donald Trump mentioned it in his State of the Union speech.

Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn, who is running to replace retiring Republican Sen. Bob Corker, bought radio time for an ad that says she stands ”for veterans, the president and `The Star-Spangled Banner.”’

Blackburn faces former Republican Rep. Stephen Fincher in the GOP primary, and that winner likely will face former Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen in the general election.

Black is the third Republican candidate to secure TV ad time in the open Tennessee race to replace Republican Gov. Bill Haslam, who is hitting term limits.

For the past six seasons Jason Sanders Jersey Dolphins , the Seattle Seahawks never had to worry about the player lining up on the left side of their secondary.

Richard Sherman locked down the left cornerback spot in Seattle's defensive backfield from the moment he took over as a starter in the middle of the 2011 season until he went down with a torn Achilles last November.

He made the Pro Bowl four times and was a first-team All-Pro on three occasions over his last six seasons with the Seahawks.

But with Sherman now in San Francisco, the Seahawks are asking Shaquill Griffin to move across to the left side as the team's top cornerback. It's a lot of responsibility for a second-year player.

"It's a little different step for me, but nothing that I can't focus on," Griffin said. "But I'm loving the left side and I'm honored to be on that side now. I'm here to help my team any way I can."

When Sherman was injured last season, Griffin remained on the right side of the defense with Jeremy Lane and Byron Maxwell taking over for Sherman on the left side.

With an offseason to adjust, the Seahawks decided to move Griffin to the left side and allow Maxwell to return to the right side where he started 17 games for Seattle over two seasons in 2013 and 2014.

"We think Maxie has done a really nice job on the other side, and we thought if we're going to balance it out and open it up (for competition), let's open it up on the right side and see what happens," coach Pete Carroll said.

Griffin was a third-round pick of the Seahawks last season and managed to work his way into the starting lineup after the first month of the season. He started 11 games and had 59 tackles with an interception and a sack in his rookie season.

The team has since added Shaquill's brother, Shaquem, to the linebacking group, selecting him in the fifth round of this year's draft. While Shaquem has received the headlines for making the NFL despite having his left hand amputated as a child, Shaquill will likely be the more important piece to Seattle's defense in 2018.

"He has been really comfortably involved with everything." Carroll said of Griffin. "He just looks like he's a veteran. He grew a ton out of last season."

Griffin said he's trying to be more of a leader this season with the lingering uncertainty of Kam Chancellor's playing future following a neck injury and Earl Thomas' holdout Authentic John Ross Jersey , plus Sherman's departure to the 49ers.

Add in the departures of Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett along the defensive line and that's five former Pro Bowlers not a part of Seattle's defense.

"It's just telling me I've got to play more of a leadership role and I'm looking forward to doing so," he said. "We've got some guys who are willing to step up and pull some of the weight and take care of their part. We're not going to miss a beat. We're not going to miss a step."

Griffin has been on the left side throughout the team's offseason activities and Carroll said he's had no issues making the transition.

"Physically it was no problem, he had played back and forth in earlier years," Carroll said. "His mentality about it was fine, he was wide open to it. That's most of it.

"If a guy feels uncomfortable and he's telling you he's feeling uncomfortable, then he is. He never balked at it at all, and there's no signs of any evidence at all that it's going to be a problem."

NOTES: Carroll said all players that were on hand for their three-day minicamp should be ready to go for the start of training camp from a health standpoint. That doesn't include S Kam Chancellor, who is awaiting tests on his neck to see if he can continue his football career, or DT Malik McDowell, who was injured in an incident prior to his rookie season and missed the entire year on the non-football injury list.

Saints defensive tackle David Onyemata is no longer an intriguing international prospect with unknown potential.

The native Nigerian, who learned American-style football as a college student in Canada, is entering his third NFL season as an established starter upon whom the Saints are increasingly comfortable relying to plug up rushing lanes or make quarterbacks uncomfortable when they drop back to pass.

"We certainly look at him that way," Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen said after practice on Monday evening. "He's established himself as a starting caliber defensive lineman in our league and he's certainly going to be a big part of what we're trying to get accomplished this year."

Onyemata Adidas Mark Stone Jersey , 25, always looked the part at 6-foot-4, 325 pounds. That's a big reason the Saints decided it would be worthwhile to use a fourth-round draft choice on him in 2016.

But Onyemata never envisioned an NFL playing career when he went to college in western Canada. He was there to study, and took up football because he was looking for an interesting way to diversify his college experience outside the classroom. He'd played soccer growing up, and was ready to try something new that perhaps suited his body type.

Ultimately, his academics-first approach to college 鈥?he earned a bachelor's degree in environmental science 鈥?might have aided his adjustment to the NFL.

"For a guy that had played as little football as he had, there was some terminology things that he had to learn ... but I wouldn't say that was any slower than it was for maybe any other rookie that we've had," Allen recalled. "So I think that's one of the things that's allowed him to be maybe as productive for us as he has, is that he is smart and learns really well. He's not a repeat-mistake offender."

Onyemata played in all 16 regular season games in 2017, starting the last six. He had 40 tackles, two sacks and one batted pass.

This past offseason, Onyemata took some time to return home in March to see family and friends in Africa, but also spent a lot of time in Baton Rouge Youth Jaire Alexander Jersey , working with long-time defensive line coach Pete Jenkins on more nuanced aspect of his position, such as his initial movements at the snap and how to use his hands to improve leverage.

"Just having the mindset to get better and work on things you're not good at 鈥?that has been the goal," Onyemata said, adding that he now has a strong command of New Orleans' defensive scheme and the terminology used to call it. "You know what they're asking you to do and you know what they're expecting you to do, so you just go out there and do your job."

Saints center Max Unger was in his second season in New Orleans in 2016 and has witnessed Onyemata's evolution as a football player up close.

"The accent's still there," Unger said, but quickly added, "He's becoming, I think, the player that a lot of people thought that he was going to be and it's impressive to see his development, especially coming down from Canada and not having a lot of football under his belt.

"It's tough to go against, honestly," Unger continued. "I mean Courtland Sutton Jersey Elite , look at him. He's a big, fast, physical guy that just needs to play as much football as he can. Again, it's a big jump to come into this league and I think that he has progressed pretty rapidly."

Unger said Onyemata's growth is evident in his awareness of what offenses are trying to do and how to defend it.

"You can be fast, you can be physical, but not knowing where the ball is, as a D-lineman, I guess is half the battle," Unger said, adding the Onyemata is also better at disguising his own intentions before the snap. "All of those things, he's showing pretty rapid improvement in."

Longtime Cleveland Browns executive David Jenkins has been named the team’s chief operating officer.

Jenkins is entering his 15th season with the franchise Youth Terrell Edmunds Jersey , staying with Cleveland despite numerous front-office overhauls. Owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam cited Jenkins’ ”performance and leadership” in placing him in charge of the team’s business operations.

Jenkins has spent the past three seasons as the team’s executive vice president and the past five as its chief financial officer. He will remain its primary government relations contact.

The Browns are exploring the possibility of a major redevelopment at their downtown stadium. The long-term plans could include an extensive remodeling of FirstEnergy Stadium or a new facility.

Jenkins will oversee operations including financial management, revenue generation, stadium operations, legal, information technology, business analytics and administration.

The possibility of 50,000 Las Vegas casino workers going on strike drew closer Thursday, with their contracts expiring at midnight and the prospects of new ones still uncertain.

The bartenders, housekeepers, bellmen and other unionized workers at 34 casino-hotels on the Strip and downtown Las Vegas have been negotiating new five-year contracts since February.

But wages, workplace training and other issues have kept their union and employers from reaching agreements Denzel Ward Color Rush Jersey , pushing employees to authorize the first strike in more than 30 years at any time starting Friday.

Here’s a look at the negotiations and a possible strike:

TO STRIKE OR NOT TO STRIKE

Ninety-nine percent of about 25,000 workers voted last week to authorize a strike after contracts expire. No date has been set, but they have begun signing up for strike pay, financial assistance and picketing shifts.

The Culinary Union and companies that would be affected if workers walk off the job had bargaining sessions this week for five-year contracts.

Analysts with Deutsche Bank put the likelihood of a citywide strike ”as low” and said they believe negotiations could continue past Thursday.

”Recall, in 2013, the Culinary Union remained in negotiations with some Strip operators for several months post the June 2013 contract expiration,” they wrote in a research note Wednesday. ”Business during this time was uninterrupted.”

The last citywide strike was in 1984, costing the city and workers millions of dollars.

ROOMS, KITCHENS AND LUGGAGE

The strike would mean no bartenders, housekeepers, cocktail and food servers Rashaan Gaulden Color Rush Jersey , porters, bellmen, cooks and other kitchen workers at properties including Bellagio, Aria, Caesars Palace, Flamingo Las Vegas, Tropicana, Stratosphere, Golden Nugget and The D.

MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment operate more than half the properties that would be affected by a strike. Both companies have declined to provide details of their contingency plans.

The union and hospitality experts have said the companies would use replacement workers and try to bring some in from their properties outside Las Vegas.

Casino-resorts that would not be affected include Wynn Las Vegas, Encore, The Venetian and Palazzo.

The strike could come as fans head to the tourist destination for the Stanley Cup Final. The union for professional hockey players in the National Hockey League sent a letter to the Culinary Union on Wednesday expressing its support for the casino workers’ ”attempts to reach a fair and equitable agreement.”

”It is hoped that an accommodation can promptly be reached that will enable you to continue to provide the high level of service and professionalism that you have long exhibited Chiefs Armani Watts Jersey ,” National Hockey League Players’ Association executive director Donald Fehr wrote.

WAGES

The average hourly wage of Las Vegas Strip workers is $23, including benefits such as premium-free health care, a pension and a 401(k) retirement savings plan, and $20,000 down-payment assistance for first-time homebuyers.

The union says it has asked MGM for average annual wage increases of 4 percent for each of the next five years. It says the company has countered with an approximate 2.7 percent raise.

Caesars workers have asked for an increase of 4.2 percent effective Friday, and annual increases of about 4 percent thereafter. The union says the company has offered an approximate 2.8 percent increase for each of the five years.

”The companies are making millions and millions of dollars, they are growing and that’s excellent,” said Geoconda Arguello-Kline, union secretary-treasurer and a former housekeeper. ”We want them to share with the workers their success.”

Both companies have declined to provide details of their proposals but have said they are confident they will reach agreements with the union.

OTHER DISPUTES

The union said it is asking for training on new skills and job opportunities as the companies adopt technology that can displace employees. It also wants contract language that would protect workers if properties are sold.

The labor organization, the largest in Nevada, also has proposed to MGM and Caesars an independent study paid jointly with the union to analyze the workload of housekeepers.

The union has argued that hotel rooms have changed significantly Authentic Su'a Cravens Jersey , with new furniture and other amenities, since 2002, when the last workload study was conducted.

”I wouldn’t be here today had not everybody gone out on strike in 1984 for those health benefits because I came down with a terminal illness,” said Deborah Jeffries, a cocktail server. ”It was very important to me that I had that, and it was well worth the walk for two and half months.

”We are ready and willing to do this again, not that we want it, but if need be, we will do it,” she said.

Stamkos, a two-time Rocket Richard Trophy winner, rebounded from missing most of last season with a knee injury to bolster the NHL’s most prolific offense with 27 goals and a career-high 59 assists for 86 points in 78 games.

Two years ago, a blood clot discovered near his collarbone sidelined the center from late in the regular season until Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals, when Tampa Bay lost to eventual Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh.

The Lightning didn’t practice Tuesday, but coach Jon Cooper said the team remained hopeful of having Stamkos back for Game 1 against the Devils.

Stamkos is optimistic, too Michael Gallup Youth Jersey , though with his history of injuries in recent seasons he has no illusions about being completely healthy when he returns.

”Listen, my body will never be 100 percent, regardless, going through the stuff I’ve been through,” the No. 1 overall pick from the 2008 draft said. ”So there’s no point asking about percentages.”

Suh’s release is anticipated unless he agrees to a significant contract restructuring, which is unlikely. He signed a $114 million, six-year deal with the Dolphins when he joined them in 2015, and his base salary this year would be $17 million.

Suh, 31, has never won a playoff game, and with him last year, Miami finished 14th in run defense and 26th in sacks last year. He had 4 1/2 sacks and 48 tackles for the Dolphins, who went 6-10.
