Epic Games has launched its first official breakout of Fortnite Season 5 and confirmed a few things we already understood. At a tweet on Monday morning, the company stated that the newest Fortnite season was just 3 days off. While the July 12 release date has been previously announced, it is nice to have fortnite materials supported since Epic can sometimes be a little late on their release -- appearing at you Playground Mode.

While the official release date is nice, it is only one tease in the tweet, which seems to include a mask emerging out of one of those rifts that keep popping up in-game. While enthusiast speculation around the mask is already warming up on the internet, it seems probably that this can be a reference to the Japanese kitsune, or fox. In accordance with Western yokai folklore, the kitsune may shapeshift -- largely into human form -- and owns various supernatural characteristics.

While it's difficult to say what this might imply for Fortnite Season 5, it will seem to be the first reference to Japan we've seen so far. Though other eras of history have emerged -- like wooden carriages, pirate anchors or references to early Egypt -- that is actually the first time we've seen something that points to Ancient Japan as a potential influence to this season's heavily theorized, but still unconfirmed, time-travel motif.

More importantly, at least for many gamers, is the possibility that this could tease a kitsune skin unlocked through the Season 5 Fight Pass. The very first teases for Season 4 revealed skins that were available via its Battle Pass therefore it does not look like a lot of stretch.
